I love this book on Dachshunds! It gives me the widest variety of information I could need. It has helped me learn so much about the new puppy I adopted & as I read it I continue to learn more everyday. I would highly recommend this book to anyone caring for & wanting to raise a responsible,loving dog. It covers everything...seriously. Buy it if you care for a loving dachshund & want to learn how to raise him to be a great dog.

This book seems more like an insert breed here kind of book than a book about Dachshunds. I am a first time owner and I found Dachshunds for Dummies a much better book.

I share my home with three Dachshunds and bought this book with skepticism as I don't consider myself an Idiot! However, I really do like this book. The author obviously knows our breed and has tailored the standard Idiot's guide format to the breed. There was some good research done, and great information for both new Dachshund owners and experienced ones. I particularly liked the information on health threats Dachsies face. This book is well worth its cost!

Excellent Resource for Doxie Info!.......2007-02-09
My fiance and I are considering getting a dachshund. Before committing ourselves financially, we wanted to know what we were getting ourselves into. We purchased this book along with Dachshunds for Dummies and I feel like both of these books gave us a great window into the lives of Doxie owners. Neither of these books are written generically so that the publisher can just insert the next breed name into the title and publish it. The information was very dachshund specific. This book is full of great info from personality quirks to grooming tips to how to show your doxie to what to look for in a vet. After reading this book, my fiance and I decided that now was not the best time to bring a dachshund into our home. We'll wait until the conditions will be ideal for both us AND the dog!! BUY THIS BOOK if you want to know about dachshunds!!!!!!

While this product was nice due to pricing being on one page. Very limited pictures and no detailed description of products. Pricing I believe to be very low of other books on same products. This book is not for beginners due to little pictures and not very good descriptions.
DISAPPOINTED in Virginia.......2002-10-11
I purchased this book and was not happy with it. It has a few pictures (less than one I purchased 5-6 yrs ago, which had more info & pictures). I have several items that aren't even in this book, (1956 ford pick-up w/ 2 motorcycles in the back, no info on this one, or several others I have). I would only recommend this book if you want to do alot of searching through words and still not find what your looking for. Otherwise, I don't recommend this book. Now I'm going to have spend more money to find another book with what I want in it.

I ALREADY HAVE 1 MATCHBOX CATALOGUE/PRICELIST FOR OLDER MODELS WHICH I HAVE A FEW. THE ONES I ACQUIRE NOW ARE MORE RECENT BUT SOMETIMES DATE BACK TO THE 80'S. THE CATALOGUE I RECEIVED HAS HARDLY ANY PICTURES ALTHOUGH I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE MORE OF MY COLLECTION(ALMOST 175).I CAN'T IDENTIFY MY CARS FROM THE BOOK BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT THE NEWER MODELS DON'T HAVE LETTERS/NUMBERS UNDERNEATH TO MATCH. I GUESS I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE MORE IDENTIFYING TO MY COLLECTION WHICH WILL CONTINUE TO GROW. I AM ALSO TRYING TO FIND OUT HOW TO ACQUIRE THE "50 STATES" COLLECTION. While going through my 200+ car Matchbox collection, I found several discrepancies, missing models, and conflicting information compared to that printed on the car. This is not even close to comprehensive collection of Matchbox information.
I don't know if you can tell by the 37 pages of samples, but the book is difficult to read with its thin font and patterned background--very poor design.
Though the book says it goes through 1998, it leaves out several models that were copyrighted in 1998.
The author flat out states that he arbitrarily assigned letters to the model number designations as his way of showing major model changes. Unfortunately for me, I read this after updating my database.
Thankfully I purchased this with a gift certificate and didn't waste any more money on it.

I bought this book for myself and my neighbor say it and loved it so much I purchased one for him, also. If you know nothing about pruning this book will get you started.
Very Disappointed in this book.......2006-09-03
I was surprised to see everyone liked this book. I purchased this book and it was terrible so I went to my local library and rented several books on pruning. One of the books, "Pruning Made Easy" by Lewis Hills is far superior to all the others for a basic pruning book. The Ortho book talked about a subject or would mention a term that they already expected you to know. The book by Hill is basic but indepth.

Just what I was looking for.......2002-05-28
I've been looking for a good pruning book for three years and have been disappointed with all of them. This is the first book that actually explains ALL aspects of the why and how to prune with just the right amount of technical detail. The encyclopedia section lists each tree/shrub with a picture and does something that no other book I've found does, it tells you when to prune EACH tree instead of just providing some broad generic statements like so many other books. If you need to prune anything in your yard, get this book.

Basic Information that is Well Presented.......2006-09-25
I can't imagine a book of this type where the buyer could get more bang for the buck. Just the beautiful color pictures of each species listed are enough to justify the cost but add in the charts and the quick and easy to reference material and this book is a tool that I would highly recommend to any homeowner.
This is no encyclopedia mind you but more of a reference manual and is basically limited to shade trees. Each page of the "Tree Selection and Growing Guide" section generally contains three types of trees so as you can imagine the information is superficial to say the least. The rest of the book gives hints on what trees grow best in certain situations such as which trees are the best street trees and which tolerate salt spray from the ocean and also gives pruning tips but I would look elsewhere for that information if I were you. One would also do well to look elsewhere for detailed information on each tree for the information provided here will only give you the basics. Also know that the producers of this book are a little conservative on what will grow in which zone so you can probably push the envelope a little. For example they say that Southern Magnolias and Crape Myrtles only grow in zone 7 or above but there are numerous specimens of both growing all around my zone 6 hometown.
The basics of course are what everyone planning to add trees to their landscape need to start with and this is an excellent book for that purpose. The information is clearly laid out in what amounts to a chart form for each tree, which will allow the reader to know in a glance if a certain species of tree is even a candidate for their landscape. By looking at the picture and the information provided one can easily decide if they are at all interested in that particular tree and can then check elsewhere for more in depth information.
I have found this book to be an extremely helpful addition to my library and I have referenced it over and again until it has become dog eared and ragged. I had never even thought of placing a Bald Cypress in my yard since I assumed that they needed swampy ground but with the aid of this book I have a nice healthy specimen growing only a little more than a hundred feet from my house. From my experience you will not likely find a handier guide to shade trees, especially for this price.
Has potential, leaves out fruit, nut trees and pruning bests.......2002-08-14
Ortho's All About Trees is almost a great book about trees except it left out many of the fruit and nut trees, and just gives a partial list of species! It also does not include some species that have more zone tolerant relatives. For example, there is a type of Holly (Princess Holly for example) that is Zone 3-8, yet the book leads you to think Hollies are only zone 6-9. Also, newer trees such as Hydrangea Trees are not mentioned. How can you have a book about trees without mentioning the apple tree or pear tree, etc? No major fruit or nut trees are really mentioned except one type of walnut tree. Huh? It also just has a partial section on pruning, and does not say what time of year to prune and suggests to prune in summer by a rendition of a tree with leaves on it--most pruning of trees is not supposed to be done during the summer according to Ortho's All About Pruning. Did All About Trees lose some pages and chapters?

Overall a solid book. Great information and pictures for how to select, plant, and care for trees. However, if you are looking for a book that will give you several trees that thrive in zones 9 and 10 (southern California), you'll need another book.

This volume explores how the poetic technique of biblical metaphor was analyzed within the Jewish exegetical tradition that developed in Muslim Spain during the Golden Age of Hebrew poetry and was then transplanted to a Christian milieu. Abraham Ibn Ezra and Maimonides applied concepts from Arabic poetics, hermeneutics and logic to define metaphor and interpret it within their philological-literary readings of Scripture. David Kimhi integrated their methodologies with the midrashic creativity and sensitivity to nuance typical of his native Provence to create a new literary interpretive system that highlights the expressiveness of metaphor.
This study is important for readers interested in metaphor, the Bible as literature, the history of biblical interpretation and the inter-relation between Arabic and Hebrew learning.
