Very informative to the novice and advanced person into live food. In depth explanations. The only thing that should be improved is the pictures, colored pictures would add scientifically to this book.

Probably the best book on this matter.......2005-10-05

The book provides interesting and in some cases new information about the best beeding technics. Some sections are a bit confusing as they expose the same things twice; I haven't found either deep information about the way to prepare in the kitchen some formula, or close up photographs of their aspect once ready to feed. Anyway, the overall impression is that of a valuable book for the begginer and even for the professional.

Much better than the subtitle suggests.......2005-04-29

For anyone with an interest in raising "live food" for their exotic pets, this book has a huge wealth of information. The subtitle "63 black and white photographs" led me to believe it was little more than photos, but it actually contains detailed information on raising a wide range of organisms. It contains chapters covering feeder items including plankton, springtails, daphnia, worms, crickets, flies, waxworms, roaches, locusts, woodlice, rodents, and on and on!

The only fault I find with this book is that they should have done a better job with the translation and editing. It was originally written in German, and could have been greatly improved by some additional editing by a native English speaker familiar with the subject. In the section on Nematodes, the text jumps from vinegar eels to microworms without distinguishing between the two species, but I believe that this was an error, with some information perhaps being "lost in translation".

What's not to love about a book that features a pair of mating insects right on the cover?! This book is well worth having for anyone who raises live food.

I live in a small town in North Dakota and writing to celebrities is the only way I have to contact them. I have used the "The Celebrity Address Directory" and I am getting fantastic results. Good Birthday List of Celebrities.......2003-09-04

I like the way this book gives background information on celebrities. I can always use some useful facts about celebrities when I write to them. I use the celebrity birthday list a lot. It is a good way to break the ice in writing to a celebrity. I usually write to all the celebrities that have the same birthday as me. Other times I just write to the celebrity wishing them a happy birthday. I have had good success this way. Some of the celebrities that have replied to me are Mohammed Ali, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and Ron Howard.

More Than Addresses.......2003-05-29

When I received my copy of this book I was surprised. It has many top name celebrities and a lot more! I like the lists he has in this book - celebrity birthdays, celebrity charities, celebrity hobbies, top paid entertainers, Rock' Roll Hall of Famers, Nobel Prize winners, places to get in person autographs and via venues -places to send a request where a celebrity is performing. I haven't seen these features in any other celebrity book. Got to go, I have letters to write.

There are so many sites listed on the internet which are available for free - why shell out almost twenty bucks for something which can never be as up to date as celebs change their agents like they change underwear! There was no rating option for 0 stars. This is also directed to every other autograph collecting address book out there....not this one in particular. Use your resources at hand before digging into your wallets :-)

Waste of time and money.......2000-03-08

I purchased this book expecting to get a complete listing of values for autographs of celebrities and athletes. What I got was nothing more than a reproduction of the listings that Beckett includes in its monthly publications. With the exception of about 200 prices for celebrity autographs (which is a far cry from the thousands you would find in other publications), this book has nothing that you can't get in a monthly issue of Beckett. It may have a few nice pictures, but that does not make up for its lack of content. And the prices are obscene! Is a Dean Cain sig worth more than Willie Mays? Or for that matter is Dean Cain worth more than Jack Nicholson? Where do they get their information? They spend way too much time listing prices for autograph inserts manufactured by card companies, and not enough time listing prices for REAL autographs obtained by collecters. Can I get my twenty-five bucks back?

I am not being critical when I say, in retrospect I would not have purchased this book. The general info listed above doesn't really tell what you what you're buying, so I'll try to give you a bit more info here. Don't expect to learn a price estimate for your John Wayne photo here. There are about 500 Hollywood celebrity names and price estimates, but they are all living performers. The baseball section is better. There's an active player section as well as a lengthy retired section, including deceased players -- with price estimates. NO signature samples of the celebrities are included. About 150 baseball players (past and present) signature samples are included. There are football, basketball hockey boxing and other sports sections which are similar to the baseball section. There's also a lot about trading cards, but I'm no expert on how good that is. I'm not saying how good or bad this book is. I just want to help you know what you're buying.

This book really isn't worth the money........2003-06-06

I am not a big fan of this book. If you subscribe to "The Autograph Collector" magazine, you would know that 80% of the magazine is advertisements, and you would think spending [money] on a book you wouldn't have 25 pages of ads. Also, many of the signatures in this book do not match signatures I have received in person. In stead of the ad's they should have used that extra 25 pages to list more examples of stars signatures, or at least list more people. I would suggest that they make the signatures themselves smaller, as many people are copying the signatures out of the book onto index cards and photos, and selling the forgeries on ebay. All together, I would suggest you buy a different book; this one is not even worth what you would pay for it used.

The first thing you'll notice about this book, the minute you open it up to page 1, are the ads. That's right, this book has *advertisements* in it. But not just a few ads, 25 FULL PAGES OF ADVERTISEMENTS! The ads clutter up the front and back of the book, which makes it a pain to quickly locate the index at the back of the book (placed right before all the ads). What good is an index if it itself requires a little bit of searching to find?!? The ads are mostly for companies selling autographed photos. A list of these companies should have been put at the back of the book (before the index) for those who are interested. Putting full-page and half-page ads is ridiculous. Because of all the ads, I feel that this book should be free, or at least cost less than half of what it currently sells for.

Now that let me get to the REAL content of the book - the autograph examples. The book lists many, many stars, including a few I was surprised to see (Melanie Chartoff and Ray Parker Jr., for example), but there are also many that are missing which should have been in there (Samantha Mathis and Hayley Mills, for example). Granted, I know that it is virtually impossible to list every celebrity that ever existed, but they could have made the autograph examples a little smaller and fit more people in there. In fact, there are some pages where there is only one or two examples on the entire page. Heck, come to think of it, the text in the introductory lessons to authenticating autographs is way too large. It should have been shrunken down to standard size, so that more autograph examples could be placed in the book. Also, it would have been a great idea to put, at least, two examples of each star's autograph in the book, just to account for variations in the way a person signs (no person signs his/her name exactly the same way every time).

All griping aside, this is actually a great book and I *am* glad that I bought it. The ads are a pain to deal with (I'm tempted to rip them out, but I don't want to ruin the book), but I guess nothing in life is perfect. At least now you have a little more information about this book than I did when I purchased it.

I was very disappointed that some big Hollywood stars were not in the book (including some that were easy to come by), and yet so many stars that I've never even heard of were filling so many pages. I've been a serious Hollywood autograph collector and enthusiast for over 20 years and was upset to see some of the bigger stars not included. Some big and popular stars missing were Dustin Hoffman, Orson Welles, Cyd Charisse, Christopher Reeve, and Gloria Swanson. And who in the world is Kelly Reno? Sherilyn Wolter? Jackee Harry??

A waste of my money.

It's fun idolizing celebrities!.......2002-07-03

Everyday when I come home from work, I feel a bit let down with my personal performance. It's a good thing Lee Ellis had the time, money, and energy to prepare this book...it's like it is geared just toward me. There's no way around the fact that I am dissatisfied with my dead-end job in a Baku fishmarket, but I can find an escape by writing to various celebrities and getting their autographs. After all, whatever they write on a used napkin is more valuable than my life--they are idolized in America and around the world, and with good reason. Possessing a piece of them is like possessing eternal happiness. They have succeeded where others have not, and our blind grovelling to them is well-deserved. When I got an autographed picture of that guy who plays Kenny Bania on SEINFELD, my life was complete. He has succeeded in life, and so has Lee Ellis. May it be Allah's will that Lee Ellis someday be considered among great writers like George F. Will, John Steinbeck, and of course Chaucer. He is truly a great man who has helped me feel like a success, and he can help you, too. Order the book--your first step toward happiness and fulfillment.

This book is a time and money saver!.......2002-04-01

I don't know about you, but I buy a book like "The Celebrity Address Directory" to save time and money. Sure, I could go on the Internet and find some of the addresses in this book but would it be worth it? I would spend many hours plus contend with the aggravation and frustration of the crashing of my computer and not being sure if I got a current address. That's why I say let the author do all the research. I sit back and let him put up with long hours and compiling the names and addresses. I can't go wrong buying this book. If I get a return to sender, I just notify the publisher and they research the address for me. They will even research a name that's not in the book.

Disappointing...........2002-03-04

...and rather misleading - the large quantity of addresses the author claims is due to the fact that a large number of people are "lumped" under a common address - for instance, all Olympic athletes, past and present, are given a generic address of the U.S. Olympic Committee, all members of congress are listed together, all members of a sports team are listed with one address, etc. Much of this "information" can be found for free on the Internet.

The book is also poorly organized when compared to others on the market - a straight alphabetical approach would be easier to use. I returned this one day after I bought it - I've found the books by Mark Allen Baker to be better.

Great Success!.......2001-11-18

Using the "Celebrity Address Directory & Autograph Collector's Guide 2001" has been a thrill. I must say that even though there are some letters that come back my successes are so exciting that they completely outweigh the returns. I have been building a collection slowly and am enjoying my new hobby more than I ever imagined. I've done real well with football players. The presidents (living) I did real well except Ford, and I love the signed photos John Glenn sent and personalized one for each of my 2 kids. I don't mind personalized autographs because I'm not into it for money, I just like to frame and display them. Actors have been great; I have received some fantastic pictures with autographs but occasionally get the mass-produced facsimiles. Oh well what can you do. I prefer to send my own pictures since the ones I pick are usually a lot better than the ones they send. Some of my favorites include....Newman, Pacino, Duvall, DeNiro, Travolta, Jane Fonda, Sophia Loren, Mickey Rooney, Sarandon and too many to list.

What could be better? This book has the best categories of celebrities to choose from, the best names with address to choose from and the best guarantee of any celebrity address book. I've been collecting autographs by mail for a long time and I'll stay with "The Celebrity Address Directory."

I immediately ordered this book, with great glee. As an ethnobotanist, I find that this book is an invaluable source of information on a topic that has not been systematically covered in my field.
