An Authority on Beardies!.......2000-04-26
Carol Gold practically introduced Bearded Collies to Canada, and was showing Beardies before they were accepted into the Kennel Clubs, working hard to initiate the breed on the North American continent. She KNOWS Beardies and this handbook is a must for those who are lucky enough to be "owned-by-a-Beardie." Thanks for all you've done for the breed, Carol, and thanks for sharing your valuable knowledge in your books!

The book is beutifully illustrated and contains up-to-date information on stamp collecting, directly from the source, The U.S. Post Office. It has enhanced my view on collecting.
A Great Book For Someone Getting Back Into the Hobby.......2006-11-17
I collected stamps in the 1970s and 1980s as my grandmother was a big collector and I was fascinated by her stamp books, which were terrific. I had a pretty good collection myself just from her discards. But when she passed away over 20 years ago, I lost interest in the hobby. But recently, I pulled out my old stamp book and got the urge to get it back into shape and to get it current. And the 33rd edition of the US Postal Service's book is a great book to use as a guide to get back in the hobby. First, it shows pictures of almost every stamp ever issued by the USPS over the years in glorious color, so it is a great book just to look at. But I use it to see just how daunting it will be to catch up to collecting almost 25 years of stamps because the USPS has issued considerably more stamps on an annual basis than they did before. I also use it as a guideline as to how much I should pay for stamps on online auctions to make sure I don't overpay by too much. The size of the book makes it easy to use as well.
I've really enjoyed rediscovering this hobby and really think this book has made it even more fun!

If you are looking for a high and low price for an individual US stamp, this is the book for you. It does not price by the condition of the stamp, but the book will give you some idea of the price range a stamp would fall within.
fantastic book!.......2005-06-14
i just thought i'd write in saying what an amazing book this is. i purchacd it a few months back, and even though its from 2003, it combines indivual prices of all stamps, and first day covers. everything is in color and very easy to read and move around in. i find its a bit better then Scott's. as fdc's are included right there on the page.

The Postal Service Guide provides an excellent opportunity to get a ballpark value of an existing collection or to fantasize about your next purchase. Any stamp collector should find this guide a helpful tool. Stamps are pictured in color with information regarding date of issue, value and description.

Excellent overall reference book.......2006-03-09
The USPS Guide to US stamps is the best illustrated and best priced general guide to US stamps. Specialists will want more specific information, but for the general collector the info here is quite adequate, and the color photos are very helpful. It's easy to use, too, and affordable. It fills its niche in philatelic reference material quite adequately.

My husband is a beginner at stamp collecting as a hobby. This little book is fantastic. It numbers all your stamps, in a easy to read format. We had been to a stamp and coin store, the week before. Amazing Finds every time you open this book.......2005-02-24
I have not only read this book over and over again and still find and see things that I missed on my stamps and I have alot of them pass dowm from my mother in law to my husband and he has the interest of foreign coins that also was passed to him so If anyone knows the best book out there on coins and paper money I would like to hear which book to get . This was a book of great pictures and details. The buyer was fast in delivering and it looks new instead of used. Thanks.

a very useful and short guide for citrus amateurs growers. Very imortant and good information about citrus USDA zones and many citrus varietes carefully described. I think there is a essentail book for amateur citrus growers in temperate zones (atlantic europe coast)
Nice Guide for the Novice.......2007-01-10
The nursery where I bought my citrus tress recommended this book. I think it provides a very comprehensive coverage of growing citrus in AZ. This is a must for your reference library.
Great pictures, but could have been better.......2004-07-18
The book is attractive and does contain a lot of information about different citrus varieties. My main criticism is that the Planting and Care section could have been much more substantial. Specifically, since the descriptions of various citrus ailments (poor nutrition, inappropriate watering, infection with pests) are not accompanied by photos of the symptoms, it makes it harder for the reader to figure out what these problems might actually look like. The black-and-white pen-and-ink drawings of pests are somewhat informative, but they're very limited compared to what might be conveyed by a photo.
Also, a few diagrams to help illustrate "good pruning" would have been great.
I'm not suggesting that this book should have been a definitive technical treatise on citrus, but I think it would have been more useful if more attention had been paid to what goes wrong when you're trying to grow citrus.
subtropical fruit for third world country's information.......2001-12-20
This book has informatiom for the professional as well as the village farmer in Africa , its teachings are simple and clear for all those interested in the subject to follow , the illustrations and instructions are simple even for those with a basic knowledge of subtropical fruit growing. Africa is not covered in the distribution map never the less the fruits are for example the mango tree is synonymous with Africa , it gives food, and shelter from the elements and fuel what more can you want from a tree. Every African school would benefit from a book like this , and i know one that will.
Great citrus guide with wonderful pix/info.......2001-10-10
I have read several other books on citrus cultivation, but this book is by far the best i've run across. It has excellent photographs of the hundreds of citrus fruits, both on the tree and of the inside of the fruit itself. It has some great citrus recipes, but it mainly focuses on the cultivation and care of each variety. This book tells the grower what he/she can exactly expect to see, and how to best care for your tree. If there is ANYTHING this book lacks, it is more info on out-of-zone citrus gardening. For example, i live in NC and i have phenomenal success with all my trees in containers (i winter them in a "cheap" plastic greenhouse). That is my only criticism of this book---otherwise, all cultivar info is detailed and well illustrated!!!!

This beautifully illustrated book steers clear from all the "professional jargon" and actually allows you to get outside and garden!
In a nicely uncluttered way, it shows you through the use of simple illustrated tables WHEN to plant each type of vegetable and WHERE. It makes gardening fun again.
Hooray! No longer does one have to spend days reading about soils, biological make-up, beneficial bugs and the other things that make vegetable gardening seem like some mysterious technological feat.

A Big Help for Florida Gardens!.......2005-09-24
As a new gardener, I was happy to read this easy to follow guide. It answers the basic questions, and gives great timelines to follow. It has full color pictures, that really help you to visualize what they are talking about in the text. It is not a fancy garden book, with all the scientific "mumbo jumbo". Just easy directions to follow for success. So far my garden looks great and I have had no problems thanks to this book.
Vegetable Gardening in Florida.......2002-06-04
Being new to gardening it has been a chore finding books I can understand about gardening. Many make promises but don't deliver information in a senible manner and I end up more frustrated than satisfied. This one delivers. The thing I love about this book is its simple easily understandable format. The book is loaded with color photographs that help me distinguish the different kinds of problems plants suffer from, making it a simple process in learning how to care for my plants and exactly what may be the problem.
I like the way he layed out the charts in the back of the book. One section for cold crops and one section for winter crops. He even has a section for herbs! It takes the work out of thumbing through page after page, book after book, of when, what and where I can grow things. Thanks, Mr. Stephens, for taking the mystery out of vegetable gardening and making my life a little easier and a lot simplier.

ONLY for those interested in history and growing.......2004-04-23
Not an easy read unless you are interested in horticulture. The book really has many parts to it; the most important for me was the history of Florida citrus (very interesting), discussion of different varieties and hybrid varieties and their origins, and precise tips on growing good citrus (given the right climate).
If you're not a green thumb, doing a project on citrus, or brought a tree home from Florida and want to know more than you could ever want to know about what you brought back then don't get this book. If you fall into any of the above categories, an excellent book for it's purpose; which is not to entertain the avid reader after finishing off the NY Times best seller list and Oprah's picks.

Technical Descriptions of Cichlids, Some New Types.......2000-02-12
This book gives technical descriptions of collected (and pickled) specimens, and location information. Drawings of scale patterns and gill arches helped me understand how the work of species identification is done, when done by specialists in ichthyology. Not a book for aquarium hobbyists until they have had their curiosity roused by the debates over which name applies to which fish.
I read it cover to cover, however.
