Very useful book.......2007-03-12
Again, the pictures in the book are easy enough to use for my 3 year old. The information contained in the book is useful. We enjoy using this book and look forward to the spring and summer when we can travel further than our backyard.

An excellent introductory book for gun novice.......2001-05-05
This is an excellent book for the beginner, and also fit for intermediate gunners.
The book starts with basic types of firearms and the firearm safety. Then the auther spends four or five chapters for each of the major types of the firearms: rifles, handguns, and shotguns. Each follow the same clear and easy to understand patterns: introduction, ammunition, sights, shooting, and shooting activities. The last chapters dealt with blackpowder guns, airguns, gun care, and even some materials regarding reloading and collection.
Anyone who read this book will not become the so-called "guru" overnight. However, he or she will possess a much broader understanding of firearms and shootings.
Write book if you are the write reader..........2000-05-19
This is a very informative book for the novice to intermediate... It brings old information of a historic nature together with shooting information we can all learn something from... If you are looking for more critical shooting science this may not be your cup of tea.... But for the right reader it is a great addition to the gun library... Over all we enjoyed it...
Competitive Shooter and Coach.......2000-02-17
I have had the pleasure to work with Mr. Malloy at several Junior Olympic camps in Florida. His insatiable desire to learn everything about shooting is cheerfully expressed in his work. His book covers critical aspects of shooting that would help every experience level. The book is concise and easy to read with photos and illustrations to help the reader. His friendly style is a bright contrast to the typical egotism developed by shooting authors.
The book is highly recommended by a former Junior Olympic shotgun coach.

a hunter and shooter.......2000-01-10
I have read this book, and I found it to be very basic, yet broad -- it doesn't assume you know anything about guns, and it builds from the basics it teaches. It also covers many topics, including many aspects of handguns, rifles, and shotguns. It is easy to read and has plenty of pictures and diagrams. I particularly liked the discussion of various cartridge styles and sizes: I learned many things about different bullets that I never knew before. Overall, this is an excellent book for a novice or less-experienced gun enthusiast. I'm going to buy a copy for a friend who just got interested in hunting and shooting this year.
Book Description
Glock aficionado Robert Boatman speaks from experience, both personal and professional, when he calls the revolutionary black-plastic pistol "that rare thing you can trust with your life." In this book he explains why in no uncertain terms. In addition to demystifying the enigmatic Glock trigger, Boatman describes and critiques each Glock model in production. Separate chapters on the G36, the enhanced G20 and the full-auto G18 emphasize the job-specific talents of these standout models for those seeking insight on which Glock pistol might best meet their needs. And for those interested in optimizing their Glock's capabilities, this book addresses all the peripherals - holsters, ammo, accessories, silencers, modifications and conversions, training programs and more. Whether your focus is on concealed carry, home protection, hunting, competition, training or law enforcement, Living with Glocks covers all the bases, examining Glocks from every conceivable angle. Exclusive and revealing interviews from Glock shooters around the world round out the text, which culminates with one of the most compelling arguments for carrying a gun ever written. If you own a Glock or are considering investing in one or more, Boatman has done your research for you. This is truly the Glock bible.
Customer Reviews:
Not much here of any relevance.......2006-02-21
This is just a collection of the kinda random essays about how the author feels about the glock and topics realted to shooting. It covers no topic particularly well and seems like a cash in on Glocks. There's simply not much here. Big type, lots space on the page. Chapter titles include "The Great Glock Watermelon Shoot" and "The Constituional Right and Social Obligation to Carry a Gun". Unless Robert H. Boatman's innermost feelings are particularly important to you, skip this one.
Great Coffee Table Book.......2005-07-26
I'm not sure why all the low ratings of this book. I think it is a great book, very informative, very entertaining with some of the stories he tells and the title of the book captures the essence of this reading. Living with glocks at home, work, pleasure or competition. I would recommend this to any glock enthusienst. He gives great recomendations from Ammo and Gun Schools, to Handguns and Girls.
ENJOY!!!!
Unless you just love Glock - Skip this........2005-06-05
I would suggest skipping this book. The author's style is annoying. I found I could not get by the writing to get to the message. Skip it or at least preview it first.
Interesting book, but some over-the-top opinions.......2005-05-18
Living with Glocks contains some "advice" that is, to be charitable, macho BS. "If you are going to shoot somebody, make sure you shoot him dead" is the sort of thing drunken Rednecks say in bars because they think it makes them sound like "Real Men". Anyone who genuinely knows about self defense will tell you that lethal force is always a last resort, and even then you only shoot to stop an attacker. You stop shooting as soon as the attack stops. Period. And 99.999% of the people who carry firearms for self defense would be delighted to use a non-lethal means of defense if a truly effective one existed. But since "setting phasers on stun" only works on television...
Mr. Boatman is kind of like someone who wrote an otherwise interesting history of motorcycles, but insists on trying to promote the idea that that it's OK to to use them to drag race down main street during rush hour. If you're new to shooting, I wouldn't recommend his book at all. If you're considering (legally) carrying a pistol for self defense, then I'd suggest you start with the excellent book "In the Gravest Extreme" by Mas Ayoob before considering even leafing through "Living with Glocks".
But having said all that, if you're already a fan of Glock pistols, or are considering getting one, then you might find this book interesting. Many gun reviews just give you the sterile specifications. "Living with Glocks" goes further and tries to gives you a feel for what Glocks are like. The author obviously enjoys shooting Glocks and manages to convey that fun to his readers. He makes some good points on the fact that some "training" methods don't always serve you very well in the real world and has training suggestions of his own that are well worth listening to. The book contains an overview of the entire Glock line (although not the newest 45 GAP pistols) and separate chapters on several of the more intriguing models. Also included are chapters even more exotic (and in the US, severely restricted) silenced and full-auto Glocks.
Again, I don't agree with many of his opinions. I'm a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment myself, but Mr Boatman goes so far overboard as to give other pro-gun people a bad name. But if you know that going in, then it's still an enjoyable book. Read it carefully and you're sure to learn a few interesting things you didn't know before.
Should be called "My Favorite Glocks".......2005-02-13
The author definitely has his favorite Glock pistols and many of the others are just barely mentioned or given the "stay away from this one" treatment. He had his opportunity to redeem himself in the great watermelon shoot, where he and some colleagues took the guns out to the range and test fired them using different types of ammo and measuring the results with a chronograph . It appears that he only took four Glocks and one 1911 Colt along for the shoot however. Those were the Glocks in the calibers that he raves about.
The author also lists his web site but it is nothing more than a porn site now.
I did feel that his coverage of concealed carry and Glock accesories were pretty helpful although I can't see why an ordinary citizen would need to carry more that one concealed firearm.
It's an ok read but if your in the market for a new Glock I would recommend that you dont use this as your only research tool.

Excellent companion volume to "Service Handguns.".......2005-08-07
This book is a companion volume to Gangarosa's The Complete Guide to Service Handguns. I've written an in-depth review of that book under that title, but everything I said there applies to this book as well. I won't duplicate my review here, and would suggest looking under the other title to see my review if you are interested. Short recommendation? Buy this while you can still find it.
Complete Guide to Compact Handguns.......2000-04-04
Excelent book. A real nice choice for any one looking for a compact handgun for self defense. The autor makes a very detailed description of firearms and the most convenient way to carry them.

Got kids in your chrysanthemums? A swing set in your rhododendrons? This colorful, engaging book brings practical suggestions and beautiful illustrations to bear on the often thorny task of blending small children with serious gardening. Bunny Guinness's solutions don't simply involve achieving maximum separation of kids from flowers, but creating an aesthetic whole where children are welcome and enchanted. "Areas of long grass for stalking games," for example, are among her ingredients for a successful kid's garden. Guinness won a gold medal at the 1994 Chelsea Flower Show for her "Wind in the Willows" design, and her empathy with the youthful imagination has produced wonderful places of mystery and beauty achievable by the most harried of parents.

At play in the country garden.......2003-03-26
There are endless books about landscaping, and many about English "country" gardens. But this was my favorite because it was not just about the plants and landscape, but how to play amongst them. That, to me, is what family gardening is ultimately about.
Enchanting book.......2001-07-12
I generally do not read garden books, just get ideas from the pictures, but I have read it cover to cover and keep it close at hand to examine the pictures in detail. It is a good combination of fanciful creations that are out of reach for the ordinary yard, and things that anyone can do themselves. There are ideas for children's games that can be incorporated into the yard, fancy rabbit hutches, and other projects as well as a picture of an incredible garden show entry. I have enjoyed this book more than any other garden book I can remember.
Spectacularly beautiful gardens, very complete with how-to's.......1999-06-22
Gorgeous family gardens, not for children only. Bunny Guinness has superb taste and superior design ability, coupled with a solid knowledge of plant material. I have given this book three times as important gifts to very close friends and it's always bowled them over, too. Actually, this may be my best impulse purchase ever. . .
Each page was better than the last, I couldn't wait to start.......1998-07-12
This was the most inspirational garden/landscape book I have ever read. It successfully combined beautiful spaces for adults with play areas for the children that were pleasing to all. The photos are great, not only a great coffee table book, but one that makes you want to rush out and creat you own family garden.

Ponds.......2007-01-22
This was an excellent book for information on our pond. We will find it and the references inside very useful!
Not Very Helpful.......2000-10-18
I found that this book would have been helpful for pond plants or if I needed a recipe to cook something I had raised in a pond, but I wanted information on keeping fish in a pond. Specifically I was interested in catfish, and silly me, I 'judged the book by its cover.' This book provides very little helpful infomation on raising pond fish as a hobby. If you're interested in spending several thousand dollars to commercially raise fish such as trout, then this book has something to offer. Otherwise don't bother.
A poetic account of country living........1998-05-12
This is a beautifully written book! It contains many whimsical anecdotes on the process of building a pond, also much practical information on plants, fish, frogs, turtles, and ducks. Having just built a pond, I found this book just the ticket. It doesn't have much about the actual digging and construction--that information is best obtained from your local Soil and Water Conservation Office. But I highly recommend this book if you're building a "real" pond (not one of those plastic pool things).
Bad Rodale Books revisited. Where's the meat?.......1998-03-17
Mostly touchy feely pointless antedotes. At most one page of useful information.

Book Description
It's a handsomely illustrated book about plants and flowers, but it's also much more. The author, a successful garden writer, and mother of two energetic, growing kids, knows from experience that pretty flowers aren't enough to make a good family backyard and garden. The area also has to be set up so that every member of the family can have fun. This book looks at yard and patio surfaces, adjoining structures, garden furniture and equipment, and garden toys and play spaces, and shows how to get the most out of them as attractive, functional recreation areas. You'll find a variety of photo-illustrated ideas for: patio designs, sandboxes for toddlers, areas for dining al fresco, spaces for setting up swings and other playground accessories, attractive spaces for plant and flower arrangements. Yards and gardens should be as good looking as they are places for having fun--and what's more natural in gardens than flowers? You'll find great ideas for cultivating plants and flowers on miniature terraces, in oversized flower boxes, amid an arrangement of hedges, or simply in favored areas of the yard. Other features include instructions for making compost, recycling, protection against garden pests, and neutralizing potential danger spots so that kids and pets are always safe. This handsome volume features approximately 100 full-color photos, attractive sidebars filled with helpful hints, and a detailed index.
