This book is a great addition to have in your library if you own a potbellied pig. I want the best for my pbp and so I have quite a few books on the porkers. It has a great section of tips listed A-Z. Also, the behavior section is good. I especially like the colored pictures of all the little piggies.=)

Excellent Animal Training Principles.......2006-08-02

I ordered this book because I have recently started training a potbellied pig. Having never met a pig up-close-and-personal in my life, I felt a need to educate myself. I was delighted with Ms Valentine's book. It is informative and highly accessible. The animal training principles outlined in it are absolutely sound and can be applied to the training of any animal, pig or otherwise, with the utmost confidence. She gives excellent advice on how to both prevent and cure common behaviour problems. Everyone who owns a pet pig absolutely must own this book! You will save yourself a lot of grief and have a very rewarding with your very special pet.

How useful is this book? Within a fortnight of its purchase, I repaired the damaged cockbeading on my mid-Victorian/ Scotch chest of drawers using a scratch stock, and managed to open a locked cabinet door on my Victorian chiffonier by cutting a new barrel key. Prior to purchasing the book, I had contacted a local carpenter regarding fashioning a replacement cockbeading for my chest of drawers. The carpenter assured me that the job was "...very complex" and placed me on a year-and-a-half waiting list. My local locksmith was prepared to charge me $150 to open the locked cabinet door on my chiffonier. The barrel key blank cost me $12.

The book is a breath of fresh air with its emphasis on restoration using old methods, techniques, and materials rather than prescribing the usual hearty dollop of filler and varnish to get your beloved piece back to its former glory. I found the chapter devoted to colour matching to be particularly significant, and I have yet to encounter a book that delves so deeply into the matter.

The chapter entitled "Is it Really Antique?" made for a fascinating read. The Development of the English Wood Screw, Woodworking Methods, Locks, and Anatomy of a Fake are all accompanied by a bounty of useful photographs.

Truly the most useful book that I have found on the subject, and one that I reach for before all of the others when I need a question answered.

Bennett has created a clear guide that both beginning and experienced restorators will find helpful. His techniques preserve the integrity and value of antiques by treating them conservatively. I especially appreciate Bennett's directions for formulating fillers and cleaners. If you want to do a proper job of restoring a fine antique this book is an essential tool.

This is a poem book about things that happen in the winter. Each poem is pair with a quilt that was made by the author. The poems are about the quilt that is pictured such as snow themes and holidays that are celebrated in winter time.

All sorts of holidays are featured such as Kwanza and Hanukkah. Christmas was mentioned in one poem but Jesus was not.

This would be great for kids and grandmothers who enjoy quilting to enjoy together.

The poems are lovely, the quilts are spectacular. Yes, the book is great for four and five and ten year olds (I am mother of the latter two ages!) and, pleasing too for 43 and 45 year olds, as well! (the parents of said five and ten year olds) Poetry comes in many forms: letters and words, yes, but also in these fabulous textiles. What a wonderful antidote to a cold, dark grey winter. Check this out; you can't possibly be disappointed, esp. if you notice the figure who looks like he is out of E.J. Keats "The Snowy Day".

i bought this book to read to my daughter who is four. it instantly became her favorite bedtime book. i love the illustrations and the poems -- we savor each page, taking it slowly. The page with the faralitos is incredible. I've never quilted, but this book makes my fingers itch!

Good book but...........2005-03-28

I have enjoyed this book, it has many cleaver patterns to use with their quilts. While making one though I discovered they are pretty vague on the directions. Saying something like attach piece b to piece a but not telling which side of the piece to attach. I have had to take out several rows of stiches and now realize I have to look carefully at the picture and try to figure out which way the pieces go. I'm making the turtle quilt right now and their are many pieces each with many sides. It's a good idea book though. Enjoy! Just try the pieces before actually sewing them.

This book has more beautiful patterns all in one book. Usually when you buy a book, it may have one or two patterns that spark interest, but I have never seen this quantity of unique patterns. I would recommend it to anyone who loves to create because these are truly creations.

Love the "Seasons" series!.......2006-03-13

This is the fourth "Afghans for All Seasons" book Leisure Arts has put out, and it is my favorite. I've made 4 blankets from it for gifts, and there are still others I want to do! The directions are easy to follow, using the usual abbreviations in all Leisure Arts books.

I love the wide variety in all the "seasons" books compared to other Leisure Arts books. From my sister in Houston to my brother in Detroit, I can find a pattern suitable for any climate, age, gender, etc. I must confess I chose different colors for each blanket than the book has (to match decor) but that was easy to do.

I also love the wide variety of sizes, complexity, and speed. I was able to make a large afghan for my tall brother very quickly because the pattern used two threads together. Another smaller baby pattern was perfect for my friend's new nursery. One pattern that they showed in a solid color was easy to convert to two colors. Still another I made for my mother was an easy, repetitive pattern, so I was able to take the blanket anywhere to work on without bringing along the book (much easier to just sit and chat without stopping to check the book directions!)

If you want to get just one book with a wide diversity of GOOD patterns, this or another of the "seasons" series is what I recommend.
