Customer Reviews:
great on health & first aid, but lacking on nutrition.......2007-08-26
first the bad: the nutrition aspect of this book a *really* lacking. while the author initially states that meat should be the base of any dogs meal, absolutely NONE of the recipes she includes have more than 30% meat (give or take). there is no mention of how to discern a good dry or canned food (if you want that try Dr. Pitcairn's books), and while I can understand her hesitation about raw diets, she completely fails to point out that common sense and basic hygeine can take care of a lot of those problems. in short, the nutrition sections were useless.
the good: the health and first aid sections are top rate and those make this book a must have for ANY dog owner. Luckily the bulk of the book covers these issues (the nutrition section is very small), and that makes this book a worth while purchase. one of the most useful things is a list of things that is included is a list of what to have in a pet first aid kit.
overall I'm only giving the book 3/5 stars because I feel that a book titled "health and nutrition" should thoroughly cover nutrition and this book just doesn't cut it. I highly recommend buying it used (which I did) and keeping it around just for the "health" information.
A good layperson's guide........2006-11-05
I found this book to be very useful for the layperson. It's written in simple terms and the author has done a good job explaining the "basics" of dog health, including nutrition. It's hard to find a non-bias reference book on canine nutrition that's not endorsing a specific feeding "style".
Coming from an animal care background, I can easily recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about caring for their furry friend.
Dog Health & Nutrition for Dummies .......2006-08-31
Overall a good book, although sometimes it is overly basic and at others lacks detail it does have a particularly good first aid section. It is well laid out, clear, and easy to read. Well worth the investment to have on hand as a reference. Definitely a good buy for the first time dog owner!
A must for dog owners.......2005-02-24
I reserached a while into various bokos on dog nurtriotn and health. the options I found were limitintg: one can purchase books for alrge sums on money giving me all kinds on information about rare diseases and symptoms or the opposite, very light and uncritical. this book is in the middle. It highlights the most important facts for both nutrition and health and whilst it does not go into too much detail, I feel that I would not be able to cope with that anyway and would need to refer to a veterinarian anyway. And this is from a "human" doctor, turned dog owner, where I would feel the same about a book on human health, too many details are too confusing and worrying for the reader.
A++.......2004-02-03
This book, is an very informative read. I love it. It gives in depth details on how to care for your dog. If i were you I would order it !!

My daughter loves pop-up books and this one is beautiful! She is at an age where she has quite an imagination and this book helps her to live out some dreams. It is a treasure.
great for travel dollhouse!.......2007-07-04
This is nicely made, pretty sturdy, and perfect to take along for traveling to relatives houses or on any vacation. Folded up it takes up almost no space, but provides for fun pretend play when opened up.
Victorian Glory.......2007-01-14
It was in perfect condition and made a very good gift for my 6yr old granddaughter.
A Charming Gift!.......2007-01-12
For dollhouse lovers, this is a real gem! It's the size of a tall book, GREAT for taking on trips! Opens up to full-circle dollhouse. We love the old fashioned, Victorian style. It's sturdy, well-made and able to light up a child's face in a big way!
Victoian Doll House was a hit.......2007-01-09
I bought 2 of the Victoria Doll houses as gifts for my 2 great nieces. I was present when one of my nieces opened her gift and played with it. She is 6 years old. She loved it. She played with that doll house the whole time. She told me it was the best present she ever received.

Great Portable Dollhouse.......2006-11-08
This is sooooo cute. I am always awed by the creativity of artists. It makes you wish you could live in this beautiful home. Absolutely eye candy for the senses!
Brilliant Book/Toy.......2005-09-24
After returning from a visit to Dublin's wonderful doll house museum,we purchased this book for our 10 year old daughter. We were a bit nervous that this book may be too young for her, but found it much to the contrary, she absolutely loves the book and has enjoyed playing with it for hours.
three-dimensional victorian dollhouse.......2004-06-02
I bought this book for my 5 year old daughter. We travel often, and it is wonderful for long airport delays or downtime in the hotel room. The book is very sturdy and has wonderful details inside. The bonus-it allows her to use her imagination! Very easy to pack.
Pretty neat book.......2000-12-27
I got lucky and found this book in the children's section of mylocal large book retailer. (It was in the pop-up book section.) Youtie the front and back cover together and you get a paper 3ddollhouse. This is a GREAT gift for a young niece or neighbor whodoesn't have a dollhouse or who is crazy about them! I gave a bookvery similar to this years ago to my girl and she loved it. She stillhas it to this day. My only complaint about the book is that itdoesn't include any paperdolls with it. You might want to purchase aset of victorian paperdolls that fit the scale of this dollhousebefore you give it to the special little girl in your life.

This book is so so beautiful! Very helpful to anyone interested in decorating thier own dollhouse. The pictures are amazing!!
me and my daughter spend hours looking through it!! If you can find this book, please buy it!!!!
Excellent resource!.......1998-04-23
This is in no way a do-it-yourself manual for the miniaturist. It is, however, an invaluable resource for anyone furnishing a Victorian dollhouse. Along with lots of historical data, there are pictures of complete rooms as well as individual items. The entire book is in full-color and the photography is outstanding. Each pictured item is captioned with its function
If you are interested in the Victorian era, this book belongs in your mini-library.

Customer Reviews:
Great purchase.......2007-07-24
I love the paperback version of this book because it is spiralbound. It has laminated pages, great for the garden, keeps it clean. The book is organized by flowering month that helps find plants you can't identify or to locate plants for a certain month that you need more color in your garden. I live in the Chicago area and it seems to cover a lot of plants for my planting zone. Each plant has the information I need to choose for certain areas of planting. It's a great book!
Easy Gardening.......2006-05-17
This book has taken the puzzle and work out of perennial gardening. THanks to Pam, I now understand the way to keep my garden in color all season!
Continuous Bloom.......2005-10-24
I have many books and enjoy them all. But this book had some ideas and information I had not read about in the past. A very fine purchase.
A good reference book for New England gardeners..........2005-06-21
Continuous Bloom is one of those books I refer to over and over again. Pam Duthie shows that it is relatively easy to keep perennial beds and borders looking good and in bloom from March through October in eastern North America. Two hundred and seventy-two of the best perennials, each with a full-color photo, are arranged in order of bloom time. For each plant, there is necessary information for home gardeners such as: plant hardiness zone, height/width, descriptions of flower and foliage, bloom time, light and soil requirements, care, propagation, and potential problems. A good investment for beginning as well as experienced gardeners.
Simplicity itself!.......2003-04-25
This book is a novice gardener's dream come true!
The flowering plants & colorful bushes are arranged by month of blooming time, each page has a picture of the plant & a detailed description of it: Type, flower size, foliage color, bloom length, light preference, care problems, tips, etc..
There are planting & seasonal garden care tips at the end of the book.
As a novice gardener I'm glad that I found this book to help me create a continuously blooming garden.
Book Description
A guide to using more than flowers to make a beautiful garden, this book discusses the small trees and shrubs that make up much of the structure for contemporary gardens. Trees and shrubs are arranged according to months of interest with many of the trees' characteristics described through multiple seasons-flowers in spring, foliage in summer, foliage and fruit in fall, and bark in winter. Gardeners can find the information they need quickly, and each of the 272 entries include beautiful photographs showing the plant characteristics in a natural setting. Specific gardening information is listed for each tree-the plant type, zone grown in, fruit or flower, habit or foliage, height, width, spacing, light, soil, care, uses in the garden, problems, insider's tips, and complimentary plants. Deciduous, evergreen, and broadleaf evergreen trees and shrubs are all profiled.
Customer Reviews:
FANTASTIC!!! Great author!.......2006-12-03
I love Pam Duthie's books! She really does a wonderful job in presenting the various plants. The back of the book also has great plant info to help design unique gardens with tons of useful plant info. Great design category for color, wet, dry conditions....it's really the best book I've ever seen.
Tanya
Overpriced and Uninformative.......2005-04-26
I was very disappointed with this book. It is primarily a list of the author's favorite shrubs organized by month of best color. The quality of the pictures is uneven: some are good but others are too shadowed, or the plant blends into the background, or the shrub described is so hidden by other plants its features can't be seen. The plant descriptions and growing information are both pretty basic, the details easily gleaned from catalogs. The "Insider's Tips" are sometimes informative but way, way too short - if the author is an expert with these shrubs she should share more of that expertise here. The listing of 2 or 3 plants in each of the "Combines With" sections is valuable however, but overall this book is overpriced and uninformative.
Spiral Edition: Laminated Pages for Use in the Garden.......2004-08-10
I must be honest and tell you that I'm the editor of this book, so my rating is potentially biased. But I did want to let everyone know that the spiral edition of Continuous Color has laminated pages and cover, making it incredibly water and dirt resistant. It's ideal for taking out to the garden. Sure, it costs a little more than the hardcover edition (which is not laminated), but it's very practical for the hands-on gardener, and is very popular with attendees of the author's seminars.
Continuous Color-- A Continuous Hit!.......2004-04-13
When Continuous Bloom was released a couple of years ago, my gardening friends and I thought we'd died and gone to heaven. It was the first book ever to speak to the Midwestern perennial garndener, and to do so with such beautiful pictures and in a way we could understand, and actually take to the garden store and into our gardens with us. I never thought Pam Duthie would top Bloom, until I read her newest book, Continuous Color. It's the perfect complement to her first book, with pictures as beautiful building on the great design ideas laid out in "Color". Like "Bloom", "Color" gives the gardner many practical ideas for implementing beautiful shrubs into any landscape. I believe this book is a must have for any gardener, new or experienced.
