Indespensible! A truly wonderful read for a border terrier owner!.......2007-05-19

This book was one of the best books I have come across for dogs and border terriers combined. I was very imformative on all subjects (History, Characteristics, Breed Standard,Puppy Infomation, Training, Health Care, Senior Infomation, Showing, and Behavior). I do however advise this for singularly Border Terrier owners simply because all of the training tips, feeding tips, history and breed standard are all for this breed in particular. All of the infomation is clear and understandable. There are color photos through out (and that was something I was looking for!) and it was generally a wonderful read. It showed how to groom your border and clean him up each week. I advise ANYONE looking for a book on borders buy this straight away! It is a life long, practical, and highly comprehendable book for all ages.

Simple book on Border Terriers (BT)............2003-07-05

This is a great starter book for pet owners of Border Terriers. Actually it is the only one I've been able to find which is strange given how popular they are in the movies and television. I currently have a wonderful Border Terrier. I purchased this book after stumbling across it at the book store after a year owning my BT. Given my year of experience, I can say that author was right on the money about this breed. The author covers many pratical aspects of the breed and puts it out there for the reader without boring you with too much needless information. If you planning on adding a BT to your family, this book will point you in the right direction.

This book is a fantastic introduction for anyone new to the breed or considering the breed. It gives information about the history of the breed but gives information about border personalities and issues

A Grrreat book for anyone interested in Border Terriers.......2000-07-25

This book is well written, and includes every aspet of Border Terrier Ownership. Vertie doesn't recomend borders to everyone (witch I have seen many books do) and she puts a major emphisis on not buying any dog on whim. There is also interesting facts and stories about the breed. Did you know that Border Terriers where James Herriot's favorite breed? This is an exelent book that I would recomend to anyone who has or wants anything to do with this breed!

A Very Fine Resource Book on U.S. Tokens 1700-1900.......2000-07-04

This is a very fine resouce book, especially for U.S. tokens issued between 1700 and 1860.

The book gives information on the following categories: * The name and issuer of the token * Photos of both sides of most tokens * A catalog number * A rarity rating * Date or estimated date of issue * Metallic composition * Size * Values for 4 different preservation grades

The catalog is organized in alphabetical order, by state, and has a very thorough Index for ease in locating information.

There are sections that include information on: * Early American Tokens (1700-1832) * Hard Times Tokens (1833-1844) * U.S. Merchant Tokens (1845-1860) * Civil War Store Cards (1861-1865) * Patriotic Civil War Tokens (1861-1865) * U.S. Trade Tokens (1866-1889) * Tokens of the Gay Nineties (1890-1900)

Although this is a very thorough source for a large variety of tokens, not all tokens issued during this time period are included within this book.

If you are searching for token information on the following items this book is NOT the book for you. Little, if any, information is included within this book concerning the following token categories.

I am a lousy gardener. What I know about gardening could be summarized in a few words: "Plant something and hope for the best." Janet Macunovich has provided a very detailed account of what to do after you have planted your perennial garden. It is very informative as we follow her tending an actual perennial garden; a great concept. Mistakes and all, we see the problems, challenges, and joys of perennial gardening the way most of us do it. From early spring cleanup, to plant division, to weeding, plant choice and more, this is an excellent book for those who have a perennial garden, or those who are considering one. No punches pulled; highly recommended. Why four stars? I live in Arizona; if the book was written for desert gardens, five stars. (I know, I know...)

This book is a good resource book. The author makes it interesting, and takes you through her garden in a great way. Although I think it is a great resource book, it would have been much better for me, if it had been written more under the plant's common name, as opposed to the scientific names. That is kind of rough for beginners looking for info on how to care for certain plants, but still inexperienced at scientific species...

Review of " Perennials: What to Do..... etc.......2006-11-05

Caring for perennials is often a gardening area that many people either avoid or misunderstand . Just because a plant is " scheduled " to re-appear for another year, there ARE certain conditions which should be provided for plants to ensure that event. This book clearly and concisely, does that. I am a Master Gardener- have gardened for 20 years.
I just thought I would check this out, for new techniques.
Dont waste your money
"The Flower Gardener's Bible" is alot better and more indepth.

Conclusion: If you have never had a flower bed- or delt with leaf blite- then this may be the book for you.

Having gardened for over ten years, and purchased many books about perennial gardening in that time, I find myself coming back time and again to two old favorites: this book and Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Perennials. (With an occasional glance at Rodale's Insect Weed and Disease Guide when circumstances demand it!) I consider these to be the essential guides to perennial gardening, and as I write this realize I need to go through all my gardening books and sell all the others on Amazon! :o) I agree with the other reviewers; Macunovich's detailed instructions, pictures, plant recommendations, drawings, are just invaluable help to a gardener in the midst of maintaining a perennial garden. Her method for controlling weeds is the most rational approach going. Stories about gardens that have gone wrong, how gardens change over time and need to be adjusted, tradeoffs that can be made to save time ... I can't recommend it enough!

This is a great book with tons of wonderful pictures. There are many antiques and vintage items in the pictures, (which I LOVE), and the ideas are very short and simple.
