Excellent bird dog book.......2007-01-06
Bird Dog by Ben O. Williams is one of the best bird dog books I've read, and I've read many books on this subject in addition to several upland hunting magazines I subscribe to and read regularly. Williams is a legend in upland bird dog training, and I wish that I had read this book as one of my first bird dog training books many years ago when I was starting out. It would have helped me get off to a much better start than I did. The book is full of common sense information, and what I found most useful (compared to other books) were the anecdotal stories that Williams related about various dogs he had owned and how the training methods he describes affected or impacted his dogs over time. That was something I found in no other book. Given Williams lifetime of experiences and the many dogs he has owned and trained, this is not trivial. I found the book entertaining, informative and useful to me is spite of the many years that I've been working with bird dogs myself. So whether you're first starting out, or been at it for some time, I highly recommend this book, and most others written by Williams. He is an excellent author, an expert on the subject of upland game birds and bird dogs (especially Brittany's). His books are well written and a pleasure to read.

Nice addition to dog training library.......2004-12-28
Ben Williams is an excellent author and story teller. He passes along his 40+ years of experience of training, hunting and generally living around bird dogs. His insight into bird dog behavior and their various personalities is invaluable.
However, this book is not a how-to guide for the common bird dog owner. Mr Williams has a large kennel, ample training area and hunts 100+ days a year. I need training advice and tips for a single dog owner hunting and trialing about 30 days a year.
Not a "How to book".......2003-08-18
I read several critics reviews before making the purchase and was very excited about an instinctive method book. I read it from cover to cover over a weekend. I then went out Monday evening, full of warm and fuzzy feelings about dog training, to apply what I thought I learned and found myself staring at the dog not knowing where to start. I understand that the books overall theme was not just about yard work but I found the book more philosophical about the method and fell short where the rubber meets the road. I did use some of the material to tweak others teachers methods (Tarrant, Long or Smith). The book reads like a compilation of magazine articles that are loosely related and rambles a little to much for my taste(side bar information about his favorite dogs). It is a good winter fire side read and I highly recommend it as that, but not as an owners first hands on training reference.
Excellant Bird Dog Training Book.......2003-05-23
This book is a great read for anyone who enjoys training bird dogs and wingshooting. Mr. Williams knows bird dogs and how to train them. He never sweats the small things or mistakes dogs make. He is very patient and kind. Once I started to read this book, I couldn't put it down. Thanks for the wisdom.

Even though I am partial to the book (that is my daughter Lindsay on the cover), Susan has captured the feelings the children (and some adults) have for their cherished possessions. My daughter at 4, is more attached than ever and know that will be her best friend for life.

Pretty informative garden book........2007-05-15
I wouldn't buy a garden book again with out color pictures. Altho I've been a gardner for many years, I would
still consider myself just above a beginner, and I need the color photos! Makes for a much more exciting book too. Information was good and an interesting way of presenting: ie catagorized by type of plant material, ground covers, trees, flowering bushes, etc.; and then by month/season.... this was very informative! Also included important information on dangerous insects, etc. that one should watch for!
Confusing.......2007-03-13
We got this book as a gift. The first fatal flaw is the lack of real or even illistrated color pictures. A few pages in one finds a table listing annuals that grow in most parts of Georgia. Wait a minute. How do we know if we live in in one of these parts where they grow. The month by month layout appears to be just a gimmic that made it east to write the book.
Your local nursery is a better resource.

This book contains excellent basic information about when to take care of the various plants in the yard. A great book for reminders about lawn care, when to prune what and other general tips for your Southern yard.
Excellent Book.......2004-12-15
Fantastic book, particularly for new gardeners or home owners. It breaks down plants into categories (annuals, bulbs, trees, houseplants, etc) then gives you monthly direction on caring for the plants. The back contains some appendixes which recommend varieties and pesticides.
If you're interested in vegetable gardening, combine this book with Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Book.

This book was loaned to me by a long-time gardener at church who said it was the best out there and now I have my own copy becuase I kept going to her house to look up something. I love the way it seperates chores by month and area of garden.

Everyone in love with Ireland knows about the 18th century Georgian architecture. In Dublin city centre for instance, where whole streets and squares are still lined up with its buildings. And also in the countryside, where its design respectfully matches Ireland's beautiful landscapes.
As some of these Georgian houses have been converted to Bed & Breakfast's, any tourist has a fair chance to see them from the inside. If the opportunity arises, just do so. You'll appreciate their great and rich atmosphere, originating from a well-balanced architectural planning long ago. An atmosphere breathing respect for everyone's conviction about human life and destiny. An atmosphere urging you not to have yourself rushed.
For those living away, 'Irish Georgian' makes an almost perfect substitute. This book's wide range of details, its penetrating photo's and its expert-text give you a few hours of sincere enjoyment. While reading, don't being rushed up.
Georgian houses in Ireland (UK edition).......2001-10-22
I have a simple Georgian house in Ireland so this is the perfect book for me. Most books are about either Georgian stately homes in the UK or American Colonial houses. The Irish Georgian houses, on the whole, are smaller and more intimate and therefore whilst still of the period are not quite so fancy. This book covers different types of houses from grand through manor to cottage. The pictures are wonderful, the text doesn't have to be read though it is interesting.
Well worth having if you're investigating Georgian houses in Ireland either from a research point of view or are in the process of restoration. However, it does not have great detail but does give a good flavour through the splendid photographs.

This book uncovers the historical preconditions for the explosive revival of utopian literature at the nineteenth-century fin de siècle, and excavates its ideological content. It marks a contribution not only to the literary and cultural history of the late-Victorian period, and to the expanding field of utopian studies, but to the development of a Marxist critique of utopianism. The book is particularly concerned with three kinds of political utopia or anti-utopia, those of 'state socialism', feminism, and anti-communism (the characteristic expression of this last example being the cacotopia). After an extensive contextual account of the politics of utopia in late-nineteenth century England, it devotes a chapter to each of these topics before developing an original reinterpretation of William Morris's seminal Marxist utopia, News from Nowhere.
