Must, must, MUST buy this book!.......2002-06-12
This book is the Bible for anyone who wants to go into marine mammal training. It provides info on training techniques and vocabulary, types of behaviors trained, steps in training, articles written by several trainers around the country on puzzling subjects, and much more. I can't begin to describe how helpful this book has been to me. It is written in a very upfront and understandable fashion. It's easy to read and you find yourself reading it over and over again. I carry this book with me wherever I go. A definte must-have! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

If you think you know anything about animal (dog) training, you might be surprised at how much you still have to learn after reading this book. If you are serious about training, this book is a "must read". If you think the book is too long, then you cannot possibly be a serious trainer. Ken- thanks for sharing your knowledge. You have given us the greatest gift of all.
A Valuable Resource for the Novice or Advanced Trainer.......2001-01-17
If you have an interest in animal training then you will find this book a valuable addition to your personal or professional library.
This book is a compilation of columns and previous articles by professional trainers AND clear explanations concerning basic and advanced training concepts.
Ken has taught animal training to students and trainers and has been very active in the marine animal training community for a number of years. As a result, his effort in compiling this book will give you insights into both wild and domestic animal training, operant conditioning, application of training priniciples, and clarification of terms.
As someone who has been in the wild and domestic animal training field for over 22 years I can honestly say you would be doing yourself a favor to add this one to your library.

I found this book very informative. This book broke training methods and techniques down to a beginners level, but went indepth enough for the expert trainer. Having the combination of papers and forum talks from IMATA conferences and information about training marine mammals made this a very good all around reference book. I recommend this book to experienced trainers, novice trainers, students doing research and people who just want to know about marine mammal training.

It doesn't cover all the roses that are available out there but there is a brief description of the roses that are easily available at most garden centers. I always check the book for any disease prone ones before I buy a rose.

Very informative on a broad range of all things roses, but mainly on the surface-level; a good book for dummies, but not beyond.
The color picture section was over-saturated, obviously not life-like colors.
A good beginning and a quick read, but now I need to find a new book to continue learning about roses.

When I first saw this book, I thought to myself "yeah, right" who needs more than a simple list-type of book with--what--like 10,000 names. This author does a great job of explaining various tips, techniques and historical background that should go into choosing a name. I found it fascinating to read about the origins of her name selections--some listed chronologically like "building empires: classical names" to "romanticizing Victorian ideas". I loved the chapter titled "ten practices to avoid." This book offered very creative suggestions without being too wild and out there! I never even pictured myself to be the type that would buy a baby naming book, but I loved this one!

This book gave me the confidence to take that dog-gone GRE and enter Grad School. Its a great book and relevant to current computer testing - Computer testing only changes the medium, not the message.

This books is filled more with methods and strategies to battle the gre. I have another book which also explained the parts of the exam, but it doesn't give information or details like this book does. It is funny and definitely worth it! I recommend it to anyone who really needs a break down of the gre.

Excellent coverage of W2K, a time saver........2001-11-15
I was skeptical. This relatively slim volume looked pretty unimposing on the bookstore shelf. Then there's the title.
However it's proven to be excellent coverage of the core w2k subject matter for experienced MCSEs.
I both enjoyed and learned from it. The book is very approachable, well laid out, and the author has an easy going writing style. I was surprised at all the little tidbits I picked up.
I haven't gone deeply into the CD, it does however include the CramSession study guides which are useful.
I found only two errors of fact, one related to coexistance of W98 Fat & NTFS on page 12 under file formats, and volume mount points and "network" drives at the bottom of page 20. For the rest of the book errors seem to be confined to the occasional typo. And thats no worse than the competition.
This is the third book I've bought for the 240 exam. I wish it had been the first.
So the book is highly recommendable, and a keeper. I'm also an MCT so I'll be recommending it to students.

The author's stated purpose for this book is: "to get you ready for the Accelerated Exam. Period. Nothing less. Nothing more." Since I have not taken the test yet, I cannot attest to the book's ability in accomplishing that. But, my opinion is that this book is a relatively short just the facts kind of book. I have a few other much thicker books that I have been using to work through doing things with the software in more detail. My plan is to use this one as my final study, along with practice tests. I have used one other "Dummies book" for test preparation. That was the A+ a few years ago. I especially liked the "instant answer" topics scattered throughout the book. I used those for my A+ and they were very helpful. I plan on doing a quick scan of just those "instant answer" just before test taking to hopefully get that "focused review" that I know that I will need before taking this four hour monster. As I look back on the various preparation tools that I have used, it is hard to put my finger on exactly which tool helped the most. My gut feeling is that this book will ultimately turn out to be one of the better tools (and cheapest) that I chose for preparation. Time will tell...
The book also points you to a web site, run by the author. He has some excellent practice tests the site. The practice tests have good answer explanations, some in audio, and links to "more facts" on the topic. These tests are all web based. I signed up for them. I like them...too. Acoording to Amazon's review guidelines, I won't post the url. It's in the book...
In summary, I think that it will probably live up to the author's stated purpose. I'll know within a month and a half...
Not sure what to think yet...........2001-10-29
Ok, so I just got this book and haven't finished it but I want to add a review hoping to see more people add their reviews. The reason I got this book is because I had finished 4 of 6 tests (MCSE NT4) and didn't plan on finishing them after I got into a bad skiing accident and microsoft announced that they were expiring the certification in Dec. Well, now that they are lifting the expiration, I'm going to give the Accelerated Exam a shot. I'm not going to make the time for one of the 1500 page books so I'm simply using this book and the free 240 page study from cramsession.
So finally, my review: the author adds a humor that is sometimes annoying but other times amusing. I read sixty pages last night and counted probably 4 or 5 grammatical errors. Usually doesn't matter but c'mon, there's no excuse for errors in these books. The author has the certification experience behind him so I'm going to trust him. He seems to hit most of the main points. We'll see!
