Good book, easy to read with plenty to learn for the beginner to the more advanced handler. This will be a book that I will read again, there is so much to get out of it that I expect to continue to pick up more each time I read it.

If you're interested in breeding quality dogs, you need this book!! This is a fantasic resource which includes everything from making unbiased decisions regarding your own litter right up to the Best In Show ring. Pat writes with an easy to read and often humerous style. I was surprised at how much I learnt from this book. I lent it to friends who all got a lot out of it. It's packed with " Tricks of the trade" (things that no one will ever tell you) and so much more. Again if you plan on breeding or even buying a show dog- read this first!!

i love this book. it is easy to read and has so much information. i have already read it twice in less than 3 weeks! i learn something new everytime i pick it up. it is not a long book describing how a dog show works; this book teaches you about the dog you are showing in the ring. lots of little bits of tips throughout the book as well. i highly recommend this book to breeders or exhibitors working with dogs. you will not be sorry for purchasing!

I have bought just about every "How-to" show dog book out there, and this would be the only one that I would recommend. It is by far the best book of its kind on the market. I agree with the previous reviewer as well--it's not just for show people. There is a great deal of information that is valuable for any dog owner. All of my other books went straight to the bookshelf and stayed there. This one is sitting on my kitchen counter, and I have gone back to it time after time.

Coming Full Circle- Thunderbirds Rule!.......2001-01-11

This book contains whatever it is you want to know about the nameplate that took tranquil Eisenhower America by storm, weathered the 70's oil crisis and came full circle to find its roots again in the new millenium. It is packed with detailed information but allows you to also breeze through with highlights and pictures of the different eras of T-birds (such as the "Square Birds" or the "Bullet Birds"). Especially fascinating is the contemporary reviews of each new T-Bird model from the car magazines of the time. I would highly recommend this book to any car buff but especially those lucky people who have ever had the pleasure of owning one of these truly classic American automobiles.

Author Corrects Oct. 27 Review.......2004-04-22

I am the author of this book. I am compelled to respond to the negative review written October 27.

Of course the reviewer has a right to her opinion, however it is incorrect that I recommend people "set an untabbed wick in gel". In my introduction, on page 4, I state "The wick must be self-tabbed with a metal holder". In my general discussion of materials required, on page 21, I state "the wick must have a metal T-Tab at its base which is at least 7/16" high". Finally, in my detailed discussion of wicks on page 22, I explain at great length why a tabbed wick is so essential (it would be a fire hazard to not use one).

I do not believe that the reviewer has read my book very carefully because her statement about wicks, as well as her other statements, do not reflect the content of the book.

This book is DANGEROUS!.......2003-10-28

As an experienced gel candlemaker I'm appalled at the dangerous projects this book showcases! Never, I repeat NEVER seat an untabbed wick in gel. HELLO - it's a fire hazard! Speaking of fire hazards, please don't embed many of the items recommended - just because it's "not near" the wick doesn't mean it can't catch fire.

The book also gives instructions on cooking your own gel with mineral oil and resin which is a direction violation of Federal Trademark law.

This book is a disgrace to candlemaking. I'm embarrassed. This inexperienced candlemaker/author did NO significant research before publishing this rubbish. Inexperienced gellers are being ripped off simply trying to learn gelling. Don't waste your hard earned cash here.

Some tips are great, others did not work.......2002-03-01

I loved this book since I saw it with those wonderful pictures and detailed instructions. I particularly liked the floating candle project and since I make my own gel, I made the 9% self standing gel candle according to instructions. The gel worked great, floated well but the candle did not light at all!!!!! I was making these candles for a wedding party and there was no way to light those candles. I changed the wick for a different thickness and nothing worked until I tried again the 5% gel. It burned OK! The candles float well only they are not as stiff as with the other gel.

The first 17 pages of this book deals with safety,materials, molds,gel subjects,types of embeds,how to place embeds,wicks and positioning wicks, coloring/scents,using glitter, containers,and decorating containers. This is neat in it's own way because it gets that stuff out of the way, while other authors use it to fill up their books.

This book : looks at container use,using a glue gun to decorate,using sequins,making a small aquarium,using glitter stars,using mini tree lights, using charms,using chenille,using bells,snow candles,a very nice rock/gel candle in a plastic tub,using dried foods/spices,crystal look candles,shell candles,costume jewelry candles,musical notes with wire candles,a neat hoop of beads inside of the candle,jagged edged colored candles,layered, towers of colors inside of gel candle,pearls and goldleaf candles,and sushi candles.

This book would be good for the beginner because it lists many things in the get started part at the front of the book. I am the kind of person who has some ideas, but needs to see other ideas too. If you are this type of person this book does offer great pics throughout, directions, and material lists. This is not my favorite, but I'm very glad that I bought it for the ideas and some of the instructions at the front are very informing. Easy format.

THE BOOK WAS FULL OF VERY USEFULL INFORMATION. VERY EASY TO READ AND FOLLOW THE CANDLE MAKING INSTRUCTIONS. IT WAS VERY DISSAPOINTING THAT NONE OF THE PICTURES WHERE IN COLOR. THEY WERE ALL BLACK AND WHITE. IT IS KIND OF HARD TO SEE WHAT THE CANDLE IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE WITH BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS. A little too basic.......2002-12-27

This is mostly a book of candle designs that the authors have made for their business in Florida. The business information is really too basic to start a business with, and it would have been more accurate to bill the book as a design book. The photos could have been better (larger) so that the details could be seen. The feel of the book is similar to the authors' website (a little crude, and a little careless with things like grammar, punctuation and spelling), though the book had fewer such irritating errors.

The photography in this book is great. Some of the tips are very good, but I also found some of the instructions to be outdated. There are a few nice projects. Since this is my first time making any kind of candle, I feel this book is for a more experience crafter.

I have owned and used this garden guide from quite a number of years now (bought it near the time of it's publication) and have never spent a better dollar when it comes to my garden. This is one of the most comprehensive works of the subject of gardening I am aware of and to top it off, it is even readable! The format makes finding information quite easy. The illustrations are great, being not only pretty, but quite useful to boot. With over five acres of flower gardens, vegtable gardens and fruit trees, I find my self constantly returning to this volume for information. Cannot recommend this one highly enough.

Spring is about to be sprung, and we cannot think of a better way to get a head start than with this door stop (or murder weapon, depending on your take) masquerading as a book. (Carry this one around and your green thumbs will be black-and-blue.) But if it's comprehensiveness you want, things are growing right here. Everything -- and we mean everything -- gardening gurus and wannabes need to know is here. There are handy plant guides, zone and frost maps, detailed garden plans, illustrated troubleshooting guide, sections on rotating crops, creating topiaries, plant diseases, planting bulbs, composing color, choosing garden accessories -- 1,000 slick, color pages covering more than 600 entries. I love this book it has everything you could possibly need to know about gardening. From starting seedlings to what plants are best for your zone. It's big with tons of great information and simple instructions.

I hate using an overly-used quote, but if you only get one book on gardening, then make it this one! It's great for beginners as well as intermediates. It's filled with wonderful tips on designing and maintaining lawns and gardens, along with how to deal with pests and diseases. The writing of the book is easy to understand, and there are hundreds of pictures explaining layouts and designs. This book is ideal for anyone who wishes to grow vegetables, flowers, trees, and shrubs. The largest section breaks down the plants by annuals, perennials, wildflowers, etc with the most complete explaination of plants, where to grown them, and how to grow them that I have ever seen. Just about every page has a gorgeous photo or diagram on it. My one and only complaint is that some of the tiny flowers on bushes or shrubs would have been easier to see if their picture had been printed in a larger size, but I consider this so minor compared to the almost 1000 pages of information. I highly recommend this book!

The tomatoes are growing!.......2001-06-19

I'll admit it, gardening has not gone smoothly for me. I have trouble keeping houseplants alive, largely due to neglect. I don't have time for a garden that requires more tending than my children. And I live in an apartment. But there's always been something about growing my own tomatoes that has appealed to me. So when I saw this book, I thought why not? It is a comprehensive guide to growing produce for your table, in small manageable beds or in containers. Just my speed. Plus, it's all organic. No dangerous and expensive chemicals to keep in the house, no worry about toxic overflow onto the neighbor's balcony below.

Three months later, I have plants growing on my balcony. Growing WELL on my balcony. Not just tomatoes, but radishes, cucumbers, lettuce and pole beans (we're still waiting on the watermelon, but we only planted it last week), mostly in plastic storage tubs with holes drilled in the bottom. We've actually eaten some of them--just like they were grown in a great big garden, with actual ground! The advice in this book is very easy to follow, from what to grow your container veggies in to what varieties to plant (and you can actually FIND these varieties, unlike the froufrou ones recommended in some books that have to be specially shipped from Asia or Europe) and how to harvest them once they've produced. There's a guide to pests (even containers get them) and suggestions for controlling them naturally. The only piece of advice you need that this book doesn't have is this -- if you don't have a compost pile (which is unlikely if you live in a second floor apartment), you can buy humus mixed with manure at your local garden center and it works just as well. Now, buy the book and start growing!

A well organized book full of helpful tips and guidelines.......2000-06-06

I would not say this is the difinitive "kitchen garden book." But it does have a plethora of information. While many gardening books give examples of vegetable plots, this is the first one that photographs the site and then numbers all the plants. It makes it very clear which plant is which instead of having to guess. The book is organized in a straightforward manner from the planning to harvest. Their reference section is extremely comprehensive. One of the sections that I found particularly easy to read is the Plant Selection Guide for both herbs and vegetables. All of the plants are lined up with their basic planting requirements: planting depth, sun/partial sun, zones, etc. There is an interesting array of receipts that I will have to try..."Pear, Watercresss, and Lentil Salad" and "Root Vegetable and Apple Stew." Overall, this is a solid vegetable gardening book with loads of advice especially on herbs.

This book has a lot of usable ideas and how-to projects, including how to make a basic picture frame, how to make a built-in bookcase. It really removes a lot of intimidation when you look at the steps. There's information on color theory, proportion, lighting, styles of decorating, etc. It lists the three major styles as contemporary, traditional and ethnic. It doesn't go into specific styles like Victorian, Arts and Crafts or Southwestern, like some other books do.

I looked at several books in the shop, and this one kept my attention for a long, long time. Time Life usually does a good job on all its projects, but this one really does it for me.
