Product Description
The typical Labrador Retriever is relatively easy to train. The author takes readers step-by-step through her method, which emphasizes positive reinforcement.
As part of the Training Your Dog Series you will be taught just that; how to train your dog, with special emphasis on your special breed. Virtually every aspect of training is covered, including housebreaking and paper training, basic obedience, teaching the animal to obey both verbal and hand signals, retrieving and walking on a leash.
Also covered are humane methods of breaking bad habits, such as begging, jumping on people, unnecessary barking, and biting. Each book is filled with instructive full-color photos.

Easy to Understand and Good Ideas.......2005-10-21
This book was great. My 3.5 month old labrador retriever already does "sit", "down" and "shake" on command, thanks to this book. He is also fully crate-trained. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Yet Another Useful Guide To Raising Labrador Retrievers!.......2005-01-21
Here is an attractive entry by author Liz Palika, a book that takes a loving look at America's singular and by far most popular wonder dog, the Labrador Retriever. As she points out so well, there are few other animals who draw such love from humans as a dog, and surely the Lab is the most loveable of the breeds. Here she presents the Labrador Retriever in all its wonder and does a yeoman service to the rest of us by enumerating all of the superb qualities the dog has to offer potential human enthusiasts. They are by reputation excellent working dogs, both as field dogs and as guide dogs for the disabled. They are also incredibly loyal, and the news services are often filled with wonderful and heartwarming stories of Labs crawling out on the ice to save their masters, often at considerable danger to themselves. Nonetheless, they stand by our sides.
Therefore, this book, "How To Train Your L:abrador Retriever" is a great tribute to the breed, and is chock-full with stories and photos that actively serve to substantiate what might otherwise seem as idle boasts and overethusiastic praise. In fact, for anyone who spends any time around Labs, like me, it is hard not to use superlatives when describing them. More than one of the stories herein will bring a smile to your face, a tear to your eye, and the idea in your noggin perhaps it is time to consider getting one of these incredible creatures into you rlife, and that of your extended family. they boost the energy level in any room they enter, are incredible chick-magnets, and have been shown to reduce high blood pressure and dissipate depression through their mere presence. This is a wond
ful book, and one I am sure you will enjoy!
Useful.......2002-01-26
A good useful book for anyone who needs some help training a Lab. Goes over a lot of general lab information as well as training tips.
This makes it easy!.......2001-03-03
This book makes training your Labador Retriver easy to train.

ASIN: 0764303635 |
Book Description
Heirloom household linens embody decades of culture and tradition to bring elegance and comfort into the home. From common domestic doilies to European tablecloths exquisitely adorned with hand embroidery and lace, Vintage White Linens helps explain why collectors passionately seek out these intimate linen treasures. To aid in identification, the book is organized alphabetically, so beginners, collectors, and discerning decorators can identify variations from handmade knit lace to machine-made eyelet embroidery, from fine linen sheets to factory made bureau scarves. Tips for finding linen treasures, caring for them, and using them around the house are included. Vintage White Linens is a visual treat and an essential price guide for anyone interested in household linens.
Customer Reviews:
Great pictures - Not enough.......2002-09-25
This book has great pictures and examples of various linens, but there is not enough explanation on what the characteristics are that differentiate one lace from another. Great for general examples, but anyone interested in becoming a serious collector will need more.
A Linen and Lace Collector's Insight.......2000-03-29
This is a very good "value guide", and speaks to the common person on a "Budget"! Many of the reference guides seem to be addressed toward people who can only afford the crem de la crem, if you will, in the world of this "Gentle Art". I have now been able to put a name to many of the pieces in my vast collection of over 7,000.
The one thing I feel this Reference and Value Guide lacks is a more detailed description of the work in the pieces and more History. For those of us who want to know the three "W's", the Why's, When's and the What's, and also the How's of the Linen and Lace World, more information is needed. Or when we know more about an individual piece, the fourth "W", kicks in and we we wonder Where the information is. Or once again, Why it is missing " Inquisitive minds like mine are always wanting to know as much as possible, and Learn, Learn, Learn!
I don't agree with everything in this book, but I feel that is as it should be! Differing opinions keep us all on our toes.

old lace and linens including crochet.......2000-11-10
I MUST AGREE WITH THE FIRST TWO REVIEWS 100%. BUT I BOUGHT IT ANYWAY, TO ADD TO MY MANY OTHER BOOKS. THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT WAS THE PHOTOS. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE UNLESS THEY JUST WANT TO SKIM OVER IT AND ADD IT TO A COLLECTION THEY MAY HAVE.
Small and thus easy to carry for a ready reference........1999-03-05
That the author loves linens is obvious from her narratives. There are some tips on care and history that are worthwhile. Many of the identifications are misleading, and the prices quoted are most frequently inaccurate. The descriptions, although vague, may be a useful starting point for the novice or casual collector, I would not refer this to anyone as a definitive work, but it is useful as an entry level reference.
Bevy of examples covering many styles but inaccurate prices........1999-01-10
First 28 pages are well-written, lyrical descriptions but not terribly historically informative. While there is an extremely wide range of items shown, many photos are reproductions which lose much in the process.
Identification of types is very spotty with even the obvious (hardanger and filet) listed only as drawn work or 'beautifully crocheted corners'. Dating of items seemed fairly accurate but pricing was "not of this earth". Most dollar amounts could easily be halved and one collar on page 43 listed at $55-60 I purchased for $8 from a knowledgable dealer.
This book is useful as an addendum to the library of a serious collector. It is however, of little value to the novice or student because it lacks identifying criteria and the pictures are not high enough quality to decipher detail.

Collecting More Household Linens
ASIN: 076430111X |
Book Description
Perfect for the experienced collector as well as for the novice, this book covers all the details, beginning with the origins of handmade linens and encompassing afghans, altar cloths, curtains and shade pulls, and bedspreads; subjects which have not been covered before because they have only recently become very collectible. Centerpieces and doilies are probably the best known of household linens because so many were made through the years, and the author makes it easy to identify the many varieties. Other popular areas covered are decorator pillows, napkins, and napkin rings.
Customer Reviews:
Great resource on linens even for beginners.......2003-12-13
I would have given this book 5 stars if the chapters included some of the topics in the second book in the series. For example shade pulls are not something I see very often, nor are they a linen type that I'm specifically interested in, but they get a fair sized section dedicated to them.
The research and data is excellent, although because of the size of the book I find it a bit more cumbersome to read. The pictures are fair as well and are not the highest "picture book" quality. They do however show the important details well and clearly and the variety of items shown is a great cross section of what the chapter talks about.
Definately well worth the money for someone intersted in vintage linens with little or no background in them.
A valuable fun to read guide for the linen lover!.......1999-03-05
Frances Johnson not only gives you information on identifying your textiles, but she is a historian as well. The photos are well done, nicely displayed and present a clear image of the linens. Both beginning collectors and seasoned ones will enjoy this reference. Having collected for over thirty years, I was able to not only enjoy this reference, but learn from it as well. Although this is not a "coffee table book", it is packed with useful information, and is light enough to carry with you to auctions, shows etc. The tips on restoration and care are extremely good. The only drawback is that the prices quoted are somewhat on the low side. The reader should recognize that this is a guide. Overall, this is an excellent book to have in your collecting reference library.

Showcases more than 325 photographs of vintage and contemporary Japanese textiles.......2005-08-07
Japanese Anime Linens: 1970s To Present showcases more than 325 photographs of vintage and contemporary Japanese textiles, including fabrics, handkerchiefs, yukatas, and appliques, that come alive with art celebrating characters from anime, Japanese animated film and television. Most of the figures and shows chosen are from older anime of the decades leading up to the early 90's, including such classic heroes as Goku of Dragonball Z and Astro Boy, and many others corresponding to television shows never officially translated and released in English; a few offer designs celebrating more modern shows such as Digimon. Notes on fabric designs, color trends, examples of common textile labels, and recommendations for crafts round out this impressive and beautiful collection, revealing its smorgasbord selection with all the grandeur and respect of a museum collection artbook. Recommended for fabric collectors, sewing enthusiasts, fabric historians, and Japanese pop culture fans.

Faux Surfaces in Polymer Clay: 30 Techniques & Projects That Imitate Stones, Metals, Wood & More
ASIN: 1584793597 |
Book Description
Stewart, Tabori & Chang is proud to reissue the popular Abrams title Creating Your Own Antique Jewelry. A dream come true for crafters, Creating Your Own Jewelry combines the hobby of jewelry-making with the history of art by showing readers how to use polymer clay to replicate jewels featured in museum masterpieces. Drawing inspiration from antiquities that date as far back as the seventh century b.c., the thirty-five projects include a brooch based on the one worn by Isabella Brandt in Peter Paul Rubens's famous portrait of her, a bracelet depicted in Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres's painting of Madame Moitessier, and a ninth-century talisman buried with the body of the emperor Charlemagne. Necklaces, earrings, pendants-the priceless originals may be far out of reach, but with a few supplies and a free afternoon anyone can fashion their very own copies.
Each project features a color photo of the polymer version alongside the artwork that inspired it. Step-by-step illustrated instructions explain how to make the piece in just a few hours using common household tools like tweezers and widely available craft materials like semiprecious stones. Part museum tour, part how-to manual, each project in the book begins with a brief overview of the artwork-so that later, when someone asks about an intriguing pin, the crafter can be ready with a fascinating answer.
