Since its October 2006 release, The Information Commons Handbook has received five reviews in the professional media, and all five have been highly favorable. In a "starred" review in Library Journal (1/15/07), Robert L. Battenfield wrote "There is a great deal of information here from a knowledgeable IC expert...Recommended for all librarians, library directors, library science faculty, and students with a keen interest in this timely issue." In American Libraries (Jan 2007) Mary Ellen Quinn commented "...according to The Information Commons Handbook, the [IC] concept is about more than technology; it is about 'how an organization reshapes itself around people using technology in pursuit of learning.'...this book provides a framework and useful tools for making the process a more proactive one." Great Book...Must Have For Beagle Owners.......2007-03-22
Having had a beagle before I had a little experience, but felt I should probably do some reading again before getting my next. It's a must have book for current beagle owners, but it's even more worthy if you read it beofre obtaining your beagle. Very well laid out book and a pleasure to read.

Beagles - My Hound of Choice!.......2005-09-04
As the owner of a beagle, I thought this was a mediocre book. The grammar is poor, but it does offer good factual information about the breed. The author, in an effort to be "equal opportunity" uses the names "Sam" and "Rosie" as generic male and female beagles. It seems that a more effective approach would be to say "beagles" without using names.
Kraeuter's book entitled "Training Your Beagle" is a much better book and was very helpful. Beagle owners will no doubt love her book.
Reasonable information marred by awful writing.......2005-01-05
I'm a beagle owner and was happy to receive this book as a gift. That was until I started reading it. While it does an adequate job of covering basic information about the breed, the writing is bad enough to be a constant annoyance to anyone with a grasp of grammar or style. Most egregious is the author's incomprehensible choice to substitute the proper names of dogs for indirect references and even pronouns. So instead of saying something like "your beagle may be difficult to toilet train" or "beagles are difficult to toilet train," we must read "Rosie may be difficult to toilet train." Multiply this by thousands of references, and you may slowly be driven insane; certainly I was. I have since bought "Training your Beagle" by Kristine Kraeuter and found it includes even better research and breed information without the fanciful and disastrous prose.

Please note that to post this notice I had to review my own book. As the author, I naturally feel it warrants five stars, but I awarded it three, so my rating wouldn't change the overall average received from Amazon's customers. I want to thank the reviewers for their comments about Antiquing Weekends. While I was writing it, space constraints demanded some destinations be dropped; in that process a clerical error placed the Kane County Flea Market in the wrong chapter; this mistake was not caught in the editing process. I apologize to the reviewers for any inconvenience and angst this mistake caused them. Authors and publishers take considerable pains to ensure accuracy, and authors lose sleep over mistakes like this one. While researching and editing this book, a colleague and I contacted the shops, shows, and lodgings to verify the information about the places it lists. Unfortunately, mistakes occur in books despite everyone's best efforts. I want the reviewers to know that I have crossed out the mention of the Kane County Flea Market in every copy of Antiquing Weekends at every book signing I've done, so that other readers aren't misled. I hope that book buyers, noting the Amazon reviews, will do the same. Please use the discussion thread I've started (see below) to alert me to any corrections that are needed or any changes that occurred since its publication. As readers, we are accustomed to seeing corrections run regularly in newspapers and other periodicals. Generally speaking, books can only be corrected in subsequent editions.

I've seen better "Antique Weekend" books and better places to stay. Like one of the other reviewers said, watch out for her recommendations on the Midwest for St. Charles. It is NOT missouri...it's St. Charles, Illinois. Skip this book and find another one.
a wonderful guide for antique lovers.......2006-09-27
I read this book wearing two hats.I am an antique junky and have traveled the country, always searching for antiques.I spent 25 years in the San Francisco area and am quite familar with all signifcant dealers , up and down the West Coast. GLADYS MONTGOMERY, you were on target and hit the high spots, both to stay and shop, like no other book i have read.
If you are addicted to antiques, like i am, this is quite a book for you to read.I am now an antique dealer,and would be more critical of content, than i would be as a tourist and i agree with almost all the content in this book. I dont know how she did it, but it would be a big mistake , not to read and enjoy and trust the content in this book. I thoroghly enjoyed every aspect of the authors style, knowledge and taste level. Hooray for you GLADYS MONTGOMERY. When is your next book coming out?
Where am I?.......2006-08-07
I've just returned from one of the weekend excursions in this book and wonder where the author did her research. In the midwest section Ms. Montgomery writes about Alton, IL & St, Charles, MO as antiquing destinations. She specifically lists the "Kane County Flea Market" held in St. Charles, MO. I planned a trip to St Louis to line up with this event about an hour outside of the city. Imagine my suprise to learn that the Flea Market is actually held in St. Charles, IL about an hour outside Chicago (and nearly five hours from St Louis). If you decide to buy this book be sure check the actual facts before embarking on any travels.

"Secrets" That Antiques Dealers Dont' Share.......2001-07-08
I have dozens of different collections. I've bought from thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales, and antiques malls. Ms. McCarthy still offered me some insight into buying and selling collectibles and furniture. She covers buying antiques on the internet, making easy repairs to items you purchase, cashing in your collections, dealer's habitats, bidding and winning at auctions, and ways to tell if an item is genuine or "fake". There is also a listing of several antiques shops that are given according to general area of the U.S. The author includes helpful publications and resources in the back of her book. I recommend this reading to novice dealers and collectors. It's an easy and fun book to read. Keep your highlighting pen handy!

The Making of the Gulf War: Origins of Kuwaitýs Long-Standi.......2001-07-28
Rahman expertly fills a major scholarly gap by providing a detailed history of the Iraqi claim to Kuwait. He dates the origins of an autonomous Kuwait to 1752 and marshalls an impressive array of contemporary sources, mostly British, to show that the sheikhdom retained its autonomy throughout the next one and a half centuries, until in 1899 it signed an agreement with the British government that placed Kuwait effectively under British protection. This arrangement, it bears stressing, was initiated by the Kuwaitis themselves due to their fear of Ottoman expansionism southward from Iraq.
Hardly had Iraq become an independent state when its leaders began the campaign to annex Kuwait. The first declaration about Kuwait as a "non-separable part" of Iraq was published in Baghdad by a government daily on May 16, 1933. Rahman analyzes a campaign that sometimes sought a border rectification and at other times aspired to take over the whole of Kuwait, then shows how it continued, with ups and downs, over six decades, culminating with the invasion of August 2, 1990. The author convincingly concludes that the ugly boundary dispute behind that invasion "had its roots in the beginning of the twentieth century when the Ottoman Empire extended its power" southward toward Kuwait. Regrettably, Rahman does not draw conclusions from his historical study about the future, but his long tale of territorial ambition will leave most readers worried that Iraq's long-standing irredentism lives on, despite the many costs of defeat and deprivation.

Book Description
Since the discovery of the worlds third largest oil reserves within its borders, Kuwait has achieved international political prominence far exceeding its physical size. The country had already played a role in history before, however. Local sources take that history back to the beginning of the nineteenth century. The present book takes the history of Kuwait still further back using European sources. It includes analyses and comparisons of indications on maps from the sixteenth century onwards and of references to the Kuwait area in documents produced by officials of the Dutch East India Company-the principal Western political and economic power in the Gulf during most of early modern times-, in British documents and in early travel accounts. The book is a valuable contribution to our knowledge of the political position of Kuwait in history vis-a-vis its neighbours, especially the Ottoman authorities in Basra.
