Book Description
A highly anticipated revision of the classic guide to Aussies
The Australian Shepherd has a devoted following. Highly desired for its versatility, the Aussie is an intelligent, athletic, and very people-oriented herding dog. In this second edition of the popular and respected The Australian Shepherd, Aussie expert Liz Palika has updated the material to reflect the breed’s booming popularity, including the dramatic increase in performance records. She explains in clear, accessible language how readers can determine if an Aussie is the right dog for them and, if so, how to choose an appropriate puppy. Featuring 65 black-and-white photos and line drawings that beautifully illustrate the breed, this guide is a must-have for both potential Aussie owners and longtime breed enthusiasts.

Good purchase.......2007-08-05
As I am a new aussi helder in Europe, I am looking to get more informations about the australian shepherd dog. So I purchased this book and as much I read 'till now was very good information whith some good triks for me.
great aussie book.......2004-01-23
Liz Palika did a wonderful job writing this book. I've been breeding, showing, and training aussies for 12 years and this is one of the best books written on them. I really enjoyed the pictures of the dogs in the 1st edition from the Bayshore bloodlines.
Excellent for the economic value.......2001-05-29
This book has it all, and more importantly, it was written by someone who HAS Australian shepherds (most books out there are not written by those whom actually live with them). A nice overview of the breed and the possibilities it holds. Great work.
Great book.......1997-11-17
This book is an up to date look at Aussies . You have to have it in your library. I especially liked the description of the Aussie shadow tendancy. She writes do you mind scooting your chair back and bumping into the dog? My Gwen is under the chair as I'm writing this. This is the book I lend to my friends who are thinking about getting an Aussie. The pictures are beautiful. I did notice a couple typos.
An outstanding book on an exceptional breed........1997-02-17
The Australian Shepherd, Champion of Versatility, written by Liz Palika and published by Howell Book House should be required reading for anyone interested in the breed. Mrs.Palika has included everything you should know about the Aussie before you deside, and you will, to add one or two to your household.

More fluff than substance - Green glass "unknown mfg".......2006-01-31
After absolutely loving Mauzy's Depression Glass book this one was such a huge disappointment. The pictures are huge, many 1/2 a page, which seems was done to make the book appear more meaty.
Many of the green pieces are labeled as "unknown manfacturers", almost comical is a row of tumblers and sherbets (another row of vases) listed as "various manufacturers". That section of the book seems like they went to someone's house and just pictured each piece.
The coverage of salt and pepper shakers is quite good, almost as if that is what the book really was before adding "fluff" items. Very little information (such as dates) is given, though.
With the little information given, I just don't trust the prices as being any guideline whatsoever. Disappointed.
Update: I found the prices listed are 5 to 10 times realistic pricing, even for the fanciest shops. Even more disappointed now, it has cost me money.

Florence's Glass Kitchen Shakers 1930-1950s: Identification & Value Guide
ASIN: 076431226X |
Book Description
However depressing the Depression Era may have been, the manufacturers of glassware did their best to add color to peoples lives. The kitchens of America were awash in blue, green, pink, and golden glasswares, not to mention the opaque hues of Jadite, Delphite, and milk glass. Prominent among them were the milk glass spice shakers shown in this book. They are avidly collected today with lithographed (no decals) apples, birds, butterflies, cherries, cattails, dogs, Dutch motifs, flowers, fruit baskets, hats, figures, leaves, Mexican motifs, musketeers, Niagra Falls, sailboats, and more. For Depression glass collectors and shaker collectors alike, this is a valuable addition to the available literature. Hundreds of shakers are presented in 119 beautiful photographs. Prices are provided for each shaker, with check-off boxes to record additions to your collection. This book will delight and inform.

Great pictures, realistic prices -- a well planned guide........2001-08-05
For the collector of kitchen shakers, especially shakers manufactured by Tipp City, Barbara has successfully captured a diversified collection of patterns and colors which have been wonderfully photographed so that you can see each shaker clearly and precisely. Yes Gene Florence has wonderful depression glass books but Barbara has the best pictures available at a reasonable price, especially to the beginner. A lot of designs have never even been found in a kitchen depression glassware book previously. The GUIDE is arranged to be used as a check off for collectors. Prices are much more realistic than in the latest book by Gene Florence. Nothing against Gene Florence, I have all of his books, but many of the pages are exact repeats of previous editions. Let's give Barbara a chance and a hand for taking on the job of presenting a colorful and informative book on kitchen shakers with realistic prices. I hope she will be motivated enough to come out with a second edition when additional shakers are found for inclusion. I have bought and sold hard-to-find kitchen shakers for over twenty years and I certainly wish this book had happened on the scene a long time ago when prices were $5.00 a shaker. Kitchen depression shakers are very much in demand and a lot of the new collectors need as much information and reference material as possible. Thank you Barbara for your time and effort in this book. This is one dealer that really appreciates it.
GREAT REFERENCE BOOK!.......2001-08-01
Even though this book is limited to a particular group of Depression Era kitchen shakers (milk glass with lithographs and I am biased to these!!), it is an EXCELLENT reference guide for those of you who collect them! And if you do collect them, the check-off boxes are a handy item. GREAT SIZE for taking to those flea markets and auctions to see what you need to have! The prices listed are a good start to bargain with! BEAUTIFUL color photos of the shakers. It sits on my coffee table! Thanks, Barbara!
Go buy it!.......2001-07-31
GO BUY IT NOW! This book is an excellent and virtually complete book of shakers. The pictures are beautiful and the prices are great, too! I would highly recommend this book to shaker collectors as it is much better than any book Gene Florence has ever put out! All I can say is: Go buy it now!
Best book ever!.......2001-07-31
I recently purchased this marvelous comprehensive book and I cannot believe the superior quality! The pictures are unbelievably clear and I love the checkoff boxes to keep my collection organized. The prices are much more accurate than I have ever seen! Say good-bye to Florence and hello to Mauzy!
As Close To Useless As Could Be.......2001-07-19
Awful. Just awful. I know the book is inexpensive, but I literally would not have paid more than 25 cents for it if I had seen it before purchase. Very little information about few types of shakers. Spend a little more for the excellent Gene Florence book.

I loved the picture quality and the accuracy of the prices! A definite "must buy"! Very comprehensive and very appealing to a variety of collectors!
A Must for Collectors of Kitchen Items..........2000-05-06
This book is the kind that "hooks" collectors. Having recently purchased most of the kitchen collectible books readily available on the market, I was pleasantly surprised at the scope of this book and the excellent photography, along with pricing guidelines. While this book does not offer specific dating of items, an introduction suffices to lead you elsewhere for extensive research, gives you enough of a broad overview to get you started, and provides insight into the very real difficulties of accurate dating. Given the wide range of items I haven't found elsewhere, I was happy to accept what it had to offer: photos and information about everything from aluminum bowls to wire whips, from the 1920's to the 1950's. This book proves you don't have to aspire to owning a $150 Griswold cast iron pot from the 1800's to love old kitchen equipment and all that it represents!
Great if you like potato mashers.......2000-03-30
This book has great color photos, but I found it to be less than "complete" as the title implies -- UNLESS you are collecting potato mashers! Page after page after page of potato mashers. It tries to cover too many areas and leaves me unsatisfied in most of them. And frankly, general types of potato mashers have the relatively same value -- I could have used more cake tins, crock bowls, etc. and many fewer mashers, it seemed like enormous overkill.

This book belongs in every home........2001-12-11
The other day my brother dropped in for a visit and happened to wander into our bedroom. I went in after him to hear him exclaim, "I want my bedroom to 'feel' like this one. Why, it feels wonderful in here! What did you do to make it feel like this?" What I did was read and use Jon Robertson's "Sacred Bedroom" to help create a truly wonderful space that even my brother, who isn't easily taken in by his surroundings, noticed. Needless to say, he is receiving a copy of this book for a gift, so that now, he too, can enjoy the benefits of a good read and a transformed bedroom. Not only that, but the author will also introduce brother dear to the art of Feng Shui, dream therapy, and some other "boudoir" arts that will soothe his soul and tickle his fancy. Thank you Jon, for a great book, one that in my opinion belongs in every home.
An Impractical but Beautiful Archetype.......2001-11-04
This book brims with suggestions for transforming the bedroom into a sacred place for prayer and meditation, sleep and dreams, romance, rituals, and sacred sex. While it might take a few days or weeks to read THE SACRED BEDROOM, it could take several years to make most of the changes recommended. Just for starters, there's the physical space to be rearranged according to the principles of Feng Sui; the floor covering and bedclothes to be replaced with natural, non-toxic materials, and some sacred objects to be obtained for the creation of a bedroom altar. Robinson suggests that we make these changes gradually, as we can afford to. I started out by splurging on a compact box of tissues which enabled me to move my hand lotion from my bureau to my night table. Now I can use my bureau top for an altar. The altar is the focal point for meditation and prayer, essential activities for the maintenance of a sacred bedroom.
Robertson has created a beautiful archetype of the sacred bedroom for readers to aspire to. Some of its components are not practical for all of us, but the principles of the sacred bedroom, to be carried beyond the bedroom door into our daily interactions, can easily be integrated into our spiritual lives. These are: "The divine image within," the reminder that we and all those we meet are eternal souls made in God's image; "True Love," that helps us recognize God within ourselves and others; "Energy," being aware of the flow of energy everywhere we go, and keeping it positive; "Filtering the artificial," to protect ourselves from the influence of the media and the synthetic world; and "honoring the authentic self," the confident self who knows the permanence of the soul and its place in the universe, no matter what occurs in daily life.
