A wonderful beginning.......2007-07-20
After having read online information, by Pete Ramey, displayed for interested horse enthusiasts, I wanted more information about the natural trim for keeping a barefoot horse sound. I have read and reread this book three times and each time find more information that I can relate to as I work at perfecting this trim on my horses. The book leaves me wanting to know and see more and more on the topic. I am "sold" on the technique. I found the book excellent and hope to gain more insight with future clinics, or perhaps, a professional in my area to check my work. If a person is not interested in trying the technique, this book will certainly make a person "think" about currently accepted practices.
Great companion book to Jaime Jacksons tapes and books.......2007-06-13
Great book. I've also purchased Jaime Jackson's "Founder: Prevention and Cure" & 3 trimming DVD's. Just gave this book & DVD's to my farrier and asked for his assistance in getting my horses set up correctly. One horse has low soles, flares and is always "tenderfooted". Farrier/vet has previously recommended shoes for comfort. Nothing about shoes seems natural to me and the horse has to be tranquilized to get the job done. After reading & watching tapes, I'm very hopeful that the natural trimming methods will offer much needed comfort. I also have a pony who has had laminitis. We've made dietary changes recommended and are beginning the natural trims. I have purchased nippers, knife, rasp, and hoof stand. Too intimidated to use nippers yet, but rasping has already made some difference.
Really Great Book!.......2007-05-16
Excellent book. Clearly written with lots of usable information. I will use it constantly as a reference. Updates are available on the author's website and help clarify the book as he grows in his profession so you can grow right along with him and benefit from his new discoveries. This book is better than other natural horse books I have read.
Once you've gone "natural", you'll (or your horse) will never go back!.......2007-01-12
If you want your favorite hay-burner(s) to be comfortable, healthy and happy - this book will help you by maintaining the natural foot for your gelding or mare. BE ADVISED - it is best to have a farrier who specializes in natural hoof care get your horse's hooves into the barefoot shape BEFORE you try any of these techniques.
Founder - Hope At Last!.......2007-01-05
A lucid, logical presentation on the prevention and cure for founder accompanied by many excellent photos which exemplify the principles discussed. After only a few weeks days of applying these priciples, my horse and I are riding the trails again.

Gen. Frederick deserves a better biographer.......2007-09-05
For a man whose character and accomplishments were monumental his story should have been handled by a writer with experience for well written prose and narrative. I struggled reading this book with its stilted, cumbersome and sometimes difficult and unbelievable phrasing. I've rarely encountered words such as humongous or pertinacious among others used in historical narrative. Nobody talks like this.
The author should have used, or at least someone from Schiffer should have suggested an editor to clean this up. I was suspect of the author's background where the inside jacket reads "...After attending university," What university? Any prior contributions to journals, magazines or other publications? A noble effort by Hicks but certainly not the paean Frederick deserves. Perhaps his story will be rewritten by an author with credentials and a knack for writing clear, succinct and cogent narrative.
The Last Fighting General: Bio of Robert T. Frederick.......2007-01-03
A rich and rewarding look at the founder and commander of the First Special Service Force, and perhaps the most decorated senior ground commander of ww2.General Fredericks early life is well recorded and his combat history is covered well. This is a must have for FSSF and SF historians and recomended for the serious reader of ww2 military history.
FANTASTIC.......2006-12-31
An outstanding biography on a true American hero. This is one of the best biographies (possibly THE best) that I have ever read. Not only is the story of General Frederick extremely compelling, but Ms. Hicks does an excellent job in conveying both the professional and personal sides of this great man. I highly, highly recommend this book for any fan of military history, or for that matter, anyone interested in reading about a man who lived life with honor, and who was committed to helping their fellow man.
Truly a fighting Man.......2006-07-18
Excellent book.I have most of the books on the Devil's Brigade.
This is truly a book worth 5 stars!

Awesome help with home buying and sales!.......2007-01-06
Vitt's book has been a tremendous help to us with the complicated and emotional process of buying and selling our homes. We knew we wanted to move, but each of us had very different ideas of what the "perfect home" would be like. Our differences sometimes seemed insurmountable. Also, it was often hard to understand why we were looking for certain characteristics in a home, and why we wouldn't compromise. Fond memories of homes that we had loved mixed and collided with current and future needs. For example, one of us wanted a wooded lot on a quiet street above all else; the other didn't care about location but wanted the home to be big enough to meet our need for interior space. We couldn't find a property that suited us both; how could we resolve this potential pitfall? Ms. Vitt gave us a structure for examining our motives and hopes, as well as a way to resolve our differences and find a home we can both love.
Also, the financial aspects of the decision-making process were important, and "10 Secrets" gave us a very clear path for avoiding potential financial disasters.
A home is so important, both emotionally and financially. "10 Secrets" gave us the tools and information we needed to navigate our way to successfully buy a home.
Also, we were so impressed with Vitt's book, that we gave a copy to our realtor, who frequently has to negotiate between couples, as well as between buyers and sellers. A Must-Buy for Realtors, too!
Have given copies to friends who are thinking about moving. Great gift.
Well-written, well-organized, an awesome book!
Yippee!! I made the decision..........2005-01-25
to stay in my house! Having recently gone through a divorce, and somewhat uncomfortable with my neighborhood, which has a very different demographic from mine, I struggled with how I could manage the house on my own, and finance numerous small and large repairs without taking on too much debt.
After taking the quiz, I realized that the financial stability of my house is the most important factor I needed to satisfy. Once I realized that...it was much easier to invest a few thousand dollars to update the furnishings and to make the house more like a home that reflected my personality. I was also able to take on additional debt to make some costly, but necessary repairs, such a new foundation and sewer line. In doing so, I found a way to restructure my entire debt load that allows me one smaller monthly payment, leaving me with a greater monthly cash flow.
I can honestly say that I wouldn't have had the courage to undertake the repairs, and take on the additional debt, if I hadn't read this book. Having a clear insight into my issues surrounding "home" and understanding more clearly my emotional profile, I was able to make my need structure work in my favor, instead of against me. Without this book, I would probably have sold the house at a discount, and made another, equally unsatisfying move.
Housing and Happiness.......2005-01-05
I purchased this book on the advice of a friend. After determining my housing profile I purchased ten additional copies as holiday gifts for colleagues. This book is the first of it's kind and will assist you in understanding how your housing decisions are made and how to make your home a place of happiness and not only financial but emotional security. I found myself highlighting passages as I went along for quick future reference. I would highly recommend this book to anyone - no matter what your living/financial situation.
Housing Decisions.......2004-12-28
At last a book that entertains you while giving solid information. I especially like the way this author uses flesh and blood real people to illustrate her points. I'm halfway through already in one day --maybe I'll write another when I finish it.
A Remarkable Effort.......2004-12-27
I have worked with Dr. Vitt for many years, and I am always amazed when the final product arrives. This book is just one of many of the remarkable things she has written, but this book alone has been the greatest help to me in deciding to refinance my home, an idea I had been toying with for a long time. After rereading it for pleasure and learning, rather than editing, I have learned a great deal more about the dynamics of buying, selling or refinancing my own home, and for this I am grateful to Dr. Vitt. This book should be a great help to anyone who is considering any kind of housing change.

"Must" reading for adult children of aging parents........2000-08-03
Ilen Rubenson's, When Aging Parents Can't Live Alone provides step-by-step explanations of alternatives to living alone, and surveys the decisions and choices involved in evaluating physical and mental health, finances, insurance benefits, and safely issues. From legal issues to evaluating facilities and understanding their different levels of care, this is packed with important considerations.
excellent step-by-step guide to handling tough situation.......2000-04-26
In this outstanding work, Ellen Rubenson provides extensive "nuts and bolts" guides to assessing elders' needs, family capacity to provide care, information on products and services, insurance, hospitals, and alternative living situations. Readers will also find an extensive guide to on-line information sources. Anyone who has dealt with the long-term care system knows that you practically have to be your own doctor, own lawyer and own social worker. This book shows readers how to better navigate these waters. We want to help our aging parents and relatives but too often get paralyzed by confusion, family conflict, guilt, ignorance, anger, burnout, fear, regret, and the sense that we'll be ineffective. Relying on this book will certainly increase the chances of actually being useful while helping to manage all those feelings.
.Rubenson's book is an invaluable guide for facing what we'd like to deny: The US population is aging. The percentage of the "old old," people over 80, is rapidly increasing, and when we "boomers" start to hit our late 60s, we will seriously strain medical, housing, and economic resources. We are now helping our elder parents' deal with their challenges, but soon enough it will be our own (and our children's) turn to make the decisions Rubenson describes. This book helped me to fully realize the personal impact of the challenge our social and economic infrastructure faces.
Book Description
This book examines national fair housing policy from 1960 through 2000 in the context of the American presidency and the country's segregated suburban housing market. Arguing that a principal reason for suburban housing segregation lies in Richard Nixon's 1971 fair housing policy, it traces Nixon's housing legacy through each presidential administration from Gerald Ford to Bill Clinton and as detected in the decisions of Nixon's Federal Court appointees.

Product Description
This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSONAFB OH report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A683433. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Allocating resources is a difficult task when resources fall considerably short of the requirements, and there are many different opinions on what requirements should have priority. The Air Staff Housing Division must decide how to allocate a $25OM/year budget to best achieve the Air Force goals for military family housing. The decision is complex because requirements are much larger than the available resources, and there are many conflicting objectives to consider. This research uses value-focused thinking and multiattribute utility theory to develop a decision analysis model to assist the decision maker in selecting a budget strategy. A deterministic analysis (using Logical Decisions software package) on the data submitted from four Major Commands (MAJCOMs) demonstrates the model's capabilities by ranking 87 budget strategies based on how well they meet the decision maker's objectives. The model allows for sensitivity analysis to display the effects of changes in the decision maker's preferences and changes in the input data. Overall, the model provides a set of tools that can help the Air Staff make a better decision that is quantifiable, transparent, and defensible. It also provides metrics to evaluate how effective the military family housing investment program is in meeting Air Force goals.
