Book Description
Combining spiritual questions with heartwarming animal tales, God’s Messengers will appeal to anyone who seeks the mystical in the everyday. The authors have gathered these accounts from a wide variety of people and divided them into four sections: Love, Wisdom, Courage, and Comfort. Each story answers a question, for example: Is there a God? Are prayers answered? and Is there a heaven? Throughout, wild and domesticated creatures teach humans about health, compassion, and unconditional love — birds, coyotes, dolphins, and iguanas, as well as cats, dogs, and horses. Readers will learn about a ferret who helped an autistic boy play baseball, a dolphin who was saved by a concerned community, and a dog who pulled hair from her tail in sympathy with a chemo patient. 50 black-and-white photographs accompany these amazing stories.

Healing and Blessings .......2007-09-12
Expand your horizons and be blessed, don't wait until you loose an animal friend before reading this MUST HAVE book
Gods Messengers.......2007-01-18
This is a heartwarming book full of many stories about how humans can learn a lot from animals. It is uplifting, will make you laugh and will also make you cry. It is a great coffee table book, I display it in my office and it has diverted many intense business conversations into those about our pets, their unconditional love and their devotion.
All Animal Lovers.......2004-02-13
... will find this book an interesting read. I found it purely by accident, and am really glad I did -The stories are captivating, and I can relate to most of them. I read Laurie Conrad's "The Spiritual Life of Animals and Plants" last year, and was completely mesmerized by her free-flowing, personable style. I think anyone who has read her beautiful work will also very much enjoy "God's Messengers".
Richard Simmons has a gentle spiritual side! Who knew?.......2004-01-29
I love GOD'S MESSENGERS!!! I especially loved the story written by Richard Simmons which is about his mother Shirley and her two Dalmations. I never knew Richard had a spiritual bent to his outgoing public personality. Dalmations also played an important part of my life as I grew up and as with Richard's mother my emotional and physical health was better because of our dogs. We have most of Richard's exercise tapes. Now we know a different deeper side to Richard Simmons. GOD'S MESSENGERS: WHAT ANIMALS TEACH US ABOUT THE DIVINE is a must read for those who want a feel good book filled with thought provoking wonderful stories. There are many great stories but I also really liked the story about Gonzo.
Willard Scott - NBC Today Show endorses God's Messengers.......2004-01-25
It was treat to see Willard Scott endorse God's Messengers on the NBC Today Show last Thursday morning. He said it was a "wonderful book" plus he added that it was a book about how animals teach us about life. I read God's Messengers and totally agree with Willard's comment! Like they say -- read one story out of this book and never view our pets and other animals the same way again!

Collecting Yo-Yos
ASIN: 0966761200 |
Book Description
Whether yo-yo enthusiasts are just getting into collecting or have been serious for years, there's only one book that gives instant expertise ... Lucky's Collectors Guide to 20th Century Yo-Yos. Authored by the foremost expert on the history of the yo-yo, the book is the bible of yo-yo collecting and boasts more listings and values for yo-yos and memorbilia than any other guide. Lucky's Collectors Guide to 20th Century Yo-Yos covers the majority of popularly collected yo-yos -- from the first 1928 Flores yo-yo to modern high tech ball bearing transaxles. Featured are close to 2000 items listed with values in up to three grades of condition. Running 256 pages (8 1/2 inches by 11 inches, soft cover), Lucky's Collectors Guide to 20th Century Yo-Yos features more than 1,000 photographs of yo-yos to help collectors quickly and accurately make identifications.
Lucky's Collectors Guide to 20th Century Yo-Yos is the most comprehensive yo-yo guide ever published, containing coverage of the history of major manufacturers as well as the history of yo-yo contests. Featuring comprehensive alphabetical and numerical indexes cross referenced with photos Lucky's Collectors Guide to 20th Century Yo-Yos was designed to help a collector easily find the listing for virtually any yo-yo in hand. Promotional, premium and character related yo-yos not listed in any other reference can be found in the guide as well, along with a comprehensive listing of string packs, patches, pins, posters, trick book and other yo-yo related memorbilia.
Designed to aid yo-yo collectors, toy collectors and dealers, values were analyzed to reflect the realities of today's yo-yo collecting market. The guide also features chapters on grading yo-yos, dating tips, restoration, identification of fakes and reproductions, size and shape guides. This along with a handy glossary of hobby terms and a frequently asked question section round out the book.
Customer Reviews:
The Value is the Book Itself.......2000-03-02
The first useful -and true- price guide for yo-yo collectors, it's also the perfect browsing book for us. The history needs some refining (following Donald Duncan's yo-yos after his company was taken by the courts is difficult, but the entry here was confusing even if you knew the background), but is at least 80% accurate. And you just can't beat those photos -- hundreds of photos of yo-yos forgotten or not even suspected! This book deserves to best-seller status, and to be updated each year. Buy several copies so Lucky can produce annual books for a living.
Hooray! Finally, the ultimate guide to collecting yo-yos........1999-06-04
The guru of yo-yo collecting and writer of the collectors corner in Fiend Magazine, Lucky Meisenheimer, has made the long wait for his book worthwhile. Truly he has created the "bible" of yo-yo collecting. History, Yo-Yos, String Packs, Patches and Pins it's all there. Anyone serious about yo-yos should have this book whether they collect or not, but don't even think about calling yourself a collector if you don't have this book.
A great gift.......1999-06-03
What do you get an 11-year-old boy who loves the yo-yo for his birthday, apparently this book. My son, who typically reads nothing more intense than a Batman comic was totally absorbed. I now know what my nephew will be getting for Christmas this year.
Into yo-yos then GET THIS BOOK........1999-06-02
You don't have to be a collector to read this book, just serious about yo-yos. The history of the toy, contests and manufacturers is fascinating. This is not a trick book, but if your love of the sport goes beyond knowing how to walk the dog then you must get this book.
Lucky's Guide is the Definitive Word on Yo-Yo Collecting!.......1999-05-23
Lucky has assembled the critical mass of information that the yo collecting hobby has needed for so long. Now we can finally place our yo-yos into the historical context and understand values, rather than blindly guessing. Along the way, Lucky provides the best general yo-yo history yet published, along with 52 pages of glorious color photos. A must for every yo-yo player, collector, or other interested party.
Book Description
It's dress-up for grown-ups, and the liveliest, most imaginative collection of Halloween costume ideas--447 costume ideas to be exact--from two hip, inveterate lovers of all things Halloween . . . plus dozens of other ideas for enjoying the holiday.
Bridie Clark and Ashley Dodd are the dynamic duo, in or out of capes. For every level of interest, time--and irony--they offer suggestions. There's the ultra-quick: Pin several pair of underwear to a shirt, and voilà, A Chest of Drawers. With a bit more time, wrap yourself in aluminum foil and don a beret--mmm, French Kiss. There are Angels and Devils, all with variations (add roller skates to your Satan costume, and go as Hell on Wheels). Come Hither costumes--Lady Godiva, Chippendales Dancer, Stripper Emerging from a Cake. Celeb sightings, from the Dalai Lama to Madonna (six Madonnas, actually, from all of her phases). Costumes for couples--Sweethearts Caught on Lover's Lane, Fred and Wilma Flintstone--and costumes for whole groups of friends, including how to appear as the Sopranos or the hapless castaways on Gilligan's Island. And for the children, check out Nursery Rhymes, Fairy Tales, and Other Costumes for the Young and Young at Heart.
Finally, for the friend who just can't bear the thought of dressing up but still wants to join the fun, suggest the Time Traveler from the Day Before Halloween.
Customer Reviews:
Cover is Deceiving.......2007-10-11
The cover is the best thing about this book. I felt deceived when I opened up the book. I thought I would find real how-to-do costumes, instead it is filled with a lot of movie clips. Not very practical. A few good ideas but they are hard to find.
the book is okay.......2007-07-06
I was searching for costume ideas and there are undoubtedly a lot of costumes in the book. I think I was looking for costumes that were home-made that looked more store-made. I read the book last Halloween when I purchased it and will most likely pull it out again this Halloween to see if it sparks any ideas.
Quick, easy, fun but some good ideas.......2007-05-23
Some of the costumes in this book are corny, cheesy, and just plain boring BUT there are some fun, creative ideas. There are no real big instruction lists but they are good ideas. I loved this book so much when I checked it out at the library that I had to buy a copy!
447 (Quick and Dirty) Costume Ideas.......2006-09-17
This should only be considered as an idea or concept book for quick or last minute costumes. All are quick and simple so as not to need instructions. If you want an elaborate or detailed costume collection, look elsewhere.
Showcases 447 do-it-yourself costume concepts.......2004-10-12
The collaborative effort of Halloween costume experts and enthusiasts Bridie Clark and Ashley Dodd, The Halloween Handbook: Dress-Up For Grown-Ups showcases 447 imaginative, easy-to-make, do-it-yourself costume concepts. From traditional favorites such as Wonder Woman or Peter Pan, to more eyebrow-raising unique costumes like the One-Night Stand (the costumegoer appears as an actual stand with lampshade over the head, bra and pantyhouse dangling on the tablecloth) or the Green Card (wearing a large green sandwich board humorously displaying a parody what a real green card looks like). Black-and-white photographs illustrate fun, zany, sometimes edgy ideas with practical suggestions to efficiently and frugally make a Halloween guise to remember. Especially recommended not only for Halloween, but as a source of ideas for costume parties year round or even school and community theater apparel.
Book Description
With some corn syrup, drink mix powder and water, you can make a splendid concoction of stage bloodwithout spending an arm and a leg. From budget-friendly frights to sophisticated props, this book offers dozens of imaginative ways to haunt a house for Halloween. Readers will find generously illustrated step-by-step instructions for creating a barbecued skull, devil eyes, bonehead tableware, a magic bottle, a glowing brain and other projects. The book details ways to enhance an eerie ambiance with effects like blacklights and music. Props use many common household items and tools. Where specialty items are required, the author tells where they can be found at a reasonable cost. Projects take anywhere from a few hours to several days to complete.
The chapters ooze with tips on topics like creating apprehension and surprise, using design to guide guests, creatively using plastic skulls, and making papier-mâché masks and molded hands. There are recipes for fake blood and vomit and ideas for using them, and other creative and adaptable ideas. Appendices include "Merry Halloween," which advises, "One of the best times to look for bargains on Halloween prop-building materials is right after Christmas"; an alphabetical listing of props and supplies and where they can be found; a list of specialty suppliers; and an "epitaph" inviting comments.
Customer Reviews:
Good ideas, but not what I expected..........2007-07-19
The projects are explained well, the directions are clear, and I feel I would be able to re-create the clever props. Unfortunately there are no instructions for large sized props such as figures, monsters, etc. that are expected in a haunted hosue. All the props are on a small scale..at least half the book is devoted to creating different painting effects on skulls. There are also ideas for masks, brains, severed hands, and other small props such as skull flowers, flatware, salt & pepper shakers, candy dish, etc.
There is useful information on lighting, black lights, adding eyes to a prop, and general setting up of a scene which will help me with my haunted house decorating, but I won't use most of the other projects.
FANTASTIC HALLOWEEN PROJECTS.......2007-02-11
When I was a kid growing up in the 70's, Halloween decorations pretty much consisted of those cardboard characters you taped on your windows and light up jack-o-lanterns. Heck the main decoration was the pumpkin you carved yourself. Today, Halloween decorations generate millions each year. There are entire superstores selling nothing but Halloween décor and costumes that spring up every Fall. The Fright Catalog has Hollywood-caliber props that cost in the thousands of dollars. It's easily become the biggest holiday for decorating next to Christmas and getting bigger every year.
The Hollywood Propmaker's handbook is the perfect book for those who love decorating for the season but who don't want to spend all of their hard-earned cash at those stores. The book is written by Keith Pitek whose work has been seen in Haunted Attraction Magazine. Pitek presents some two-dozen projects that can be made with inexpensive items, many of which you might have lying around the house.
Pitek begins by covering various techniques to setting up your outdoor display covering things which seem so simple and make perfect sense such as where to set-up speakers for sound, the best ways to display props, the use of remote controls, and lighting. Pitek also covers the use of black lights, techniques for painting skulls, wiring your props for light, and using two-way mirrors.
In the project section, Pitek provides several different types of skulls using inexpensive plastic skull props that are available at the Halloween stores as well as major retailers. Create one with light up twinkling eyes that doesn't take an electrician to wire; paint one so that it looks like it was just dug up out of a grave. The painting uses common household ingredients such as shoe polish or wood varnish. It's really all in the technique! Perhaps the most ambitious is the barbecued skull, which when finished, will look like it was just retrieved out of an incinerator.
One of my favorite projects, again one which is quite detailed, is the partially eaten hand made with a hand shaped gelatin mold and several other items. Done right, it creates a stunningly realistic looking prop. Pitek also provides a sure-fire recipe for stage blood that can be made with corn syrup and red-colored Kool-Aid. Pitek concludes with a detailed reference section informing readers where the items used in the props can be purchased as well as providing the phone numbers and websites to many different suppliers.
Now, these items are not your average weekend craft projects. Some are quite easy and can be made in an hour. Others are very involved and take many hours, or even days to finish, but the results will be worth it.

Deserves ongoing recommendation for any avid party crafts person .......2006-11-07
Halloween Propmaker's Handbook arrived too late for October mention but deserves ongoing recommendation for any avid party crafts person who enjoys putting together unique Halloween props. Here are recipes for fake blood, papier-maiche projects such as skills, two-way mirrors, and other techniques just perfect for Halloween decorators. No color photos, but the step-by-step black and white images and clear directions need little color to prove involving.

Got me started, hard to stop........2006-07-23
I've been building a haunted house with a church group for maybe 5 years running. The youth won't let me stop! Every year I get a call asking if I'll help with the haunted house, both from the participants and the patrons. Everybody loves it!
OK, so the book doesn't provide dimensioned engineering drawings, and it maybe a bit vague. Working with a youth group, it's perfect. They often only need some general thoughts, and they can run with the details.
There are a lot of ideas for content posted to the internet. Chavez does a reasonable job of educating about what to look for in those ideas, so you look for ideas that are safe, provide a reasonable effect, and for a reasonable price.
Spootacular!!!!!!!.......2006-06-28
A great book for the motivated home haunter, great ideas and scenes that can be built on a budget. Your not going to put any haunted house out of business, but you will be the hit of the neighborhood. You need to have a creative mind to go along with the concepts presented, this a guide not a by the numbers book. If you are like me and work on Halloween projects all year round, you will enjoy this book. If you want so some cute wood cutouts to put in the yard, this book is not for you.
If this book doesn't spark your imagination..........2006-06-06
The 'HHHH' was designed for haunted house enthusiasts who are brimming with imagination. It's written like a sugar cookie recipe to be dressed up with any kind of toppings or mix-ins that the reader can concoct. If the book is followed step by step it would produce a simple and effective charity haunt, but mix in a healthy dose of creativity and the sky (or grave yard) is the limit. Anyone who can't pull a beautiful haunt from this book is severely lacking in haunt talent and needs to leave haunting to the professionals.
Basic instructional book at best........2005-07-31
Very basic book that MAY be helpful to a home haunter, but if you serious about producing a haunted attraction, this book will be of little help to you. The book's drawings are simplistic and the description of props is somewhat vague, however, there are some basic technics that can utilized to create certain effects. The book's discussion of the finances of a haunted attraction is very limited and unimaginative. The use of actors to replace mechanical activation of effects is prominent in this book which leads me to believe that the authors financial skills are lacking( Labor cost & insurance are monumental hurdles in any haunted attraction). In general I would reccommend that you save your money on this one, the internet provides most of information in the book "free for the asking".
You've got to be kidding me.......2001-11-14
I just wasted abou 30 bucks on this book. i hope I can getit back too. If you are serious about wanting to make a haunted house that is scary, don' buy this. I think this book is for people that ar trying to make their house look cool on halloween or whatever. It talks about running an actual haunted house event, but like I say, if you are serious, this is just not even helpful. The most important aspects of operating a haunted house are just outlined briefly in the book. Most of the book concentrates on building props and masks. It dosen't even make sense on most of it. Why wouldn't someone just buy masks and create the haunted house like they wanted too? i found ONE idea out of the whole book i liked. As far as knowing how to get one started I'm right where I began. In my opinion, you just have to try to get a haunted house in order by your own insticts, because I learnt the hard way, books can't do it!

I didn't like this book at all.......2006-07-15
Telling me how to find ghost, nothing in this book was any different then what you could see in a horror movie. There was nothing backing up anything, its like taking advise from a blind man on driving. Can you at least try to prove something, this isn't the bible, we don't have to believe just because. Facts! Facts! Let see some real science on this subject. Not just speculation.
Really works!.......2003-05-04
On a scale of one to ten...
5,000! This actually works! So far I've found a poltergeist and avenger. I Ghost Hunt with my friends now all the time! I'm collecting all of them in the series as well as this one. Great buy!
ENTERTAINING BUT NOT TOO SCARY!.......2002-12-21
This book is a good book if you are interested in ghosts. It does a good job of describing where to find ghosts, what kind of ghosts there are, and what ghosts look like. This was the first book on ghosts that I have read and I really enjoyed it!

This guide for and about witches will help to dispel any misinformation about these paranormal beings. Included is information on how to determine if you or someone you know is a witch, tips on how to become a successful witch, a section on the necessary witching tools, concocting spells and potions, and much, much more.

Cute........2007-08-27
This book is very cute, with many little fun things in it like a Witch Test - how to tell if you or someone you know is a witch (not by any means an "authentic" source, but very fun) to the explanation to readers that witches don't have green skin, warts on their nose and missing teeth. It also has a reference to "good" and "bad" witches in the media (Glinda from "The Wizard of Oz", Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Samantha from "Bewitched", etc) and references to Harry Potter as well.
A wonderful little gift to give to a little brother or sister on Halloween :)
From Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot.......2002-10-22
This seems to be a big year for witches and this little handbook is chock full of information. The opening chapter asks if you are a witch and offers ways to test yourself. There us a Federal Witch Identification Exam, a page to list the reasons why you might be a witch, information about famous witches such as those from the Wizard of OZ and the TV program Bewitched, there is even a two page spread listing good witch characteristics and a similar one for bad witches. Chapter two describes witches in history and how those women who often knew herbal remedies and could help heal the sick were often considered witches. One of the more interesting sections of this chapter is the description of witch holidays. The next chapter deals with essential equipment such as a broomstick and how to make one, obtaining a familiar, and a wand. Chapter four describes magic symbols and spells with step-by-step instructions and the proper words to use for a few magic tricks. The last chapter offers more resources for those who want to do more reading about witches or watch some movies and TV shows. There is also a glossary and pages for a journal and another to create an identification card. Fun for older kids who know that this is a spoof and will find the compilation amusing. 2002, Price Stern Sloan,
