Book Description
Two of the world's foremost breeders of corn snakes joined to write the ultimate corn snake book covering every aspect of husbandry, breeding and medicine. The authors also present an up-to-date discussion of all the current morphs. As could be expected from renowned photographer Bill Love, this groundbreaking book is illustrated by numerous color photographs showing why corn snakes are the most beautiful and best pet snakes in the world.
Customer Reviews:
Lack-Luster At Best.......2006-05-05
To be perfectly honest, I expected more after reading the other online reviews of this book. Bill and Kathy Love are THE corn snake experts in America, but this book just seems to be a re-hash of their earlier articles and works. The pictures were excellent, but so far as all around quality goes, I think one of the "Philip" experts is the one to trust: Philippe de Vosjoli is a veteran of the field with AMAZING books, and Phil Purser is an authority on corn snakes who is actually a readable writer.
I think a veteran keeper could augment his/her library with this text, but the average hobbyist should probably look elsewhere. I was much happier with the **other** corn snake book I purchased.
The Definitive Word on Corn Snakes.......2006-03-08
This book came highly recommended to me by snake breeders. The material is wonderful, easy to comprehend and THE absolute resource for the beginner or advanced owner. Definite bang for the buck and wisdom shared by folks who have made raising corns on of their life's work. From the hatching to elder years, this book has it all.
Six Star Rating.......2005-12-22
I'd give it six stars if I could. It's very entertaining, very educational, complete, and packed with plenty of color photos. The writing style is informal, present-day North American English.
What more could you ask for in a book? An autographed copy, that's what.
An absolute must.......2005-04-30
If you are planning on owning a corn snake, this one and The art of keeping snakes by Phillipe de Vosjoli should be the first books to buy. Read it before you purchase the animal!

Wonderful Book.......2002-09-24
This is a wonderful book about the fabulous dolls and accessories of the 1950s. It has lots of photos and complete descriptions and something for everyone. It is comprehensive and a "must" for collectors of this era- perfect for research or simply enjoyment and a trip down memory lane. Well done! Keep the books coming!
Excellent Resource Guide.......2001-01-25
I bought this book to match the clothes that I buy at garage sales and auctions to the dolls that I own and to make sure that any dolls I'm considering are dressed in their original clothes, and I was not dissapointed. With over 500 color pictures and pictures of whole catalogue pages I have found this book to be the best in my library.Value guides are given in the description paragraph not forcing the reader to turn to a back page and search for a corresponding plate number, which I personally find annoying.I would highly recommend this book to any collector of 50' dolls.

Book Description
If you love the joys of eating home-garden vegetables but always thought those joys had to stop at the end of summer, this book is for you. Eliot Coleman introduces the surprising fact that most of the United States has more winter sunshine than the south of France. He shows how North American gardeners can successfully use that sun to raise a wide variety of traditional winter vegetables in backyard cold frames and plastic covered tunnel greenhouses without supplementary heat. Coleman expands upon his own experiences with new ideas learned on a winter-vegetable pilgrimage across the ocean to the acknowledged kingdom of vegetable cuisine, the southern part of France, which lies on the 44th parallel, the same latitude as his farm in Maine.
This story of sunshine, weather patterns, old limitations and expectations, and new realities is delightfully innovative in the best gardening tradition. Four-Season Harvest will have you feasting on fresh produce from your garden all through the winter.

practical, stress free gardening.......2007-10-14
We love this book. We've practiced what is written in this amazing book for our first garden and were super pleased with the results. Many who have seen our garden are inquisitive about the techniques. My husband is more excited about compost than gardening, this book showed him how to make a great compost pit.
Does this book even need another 5-star review?.......2007-10-06
Even if you don't want to garden year round (if you do this is the only book you need), it's a fascinating and fact-filled read. He tells how to garden more efficiently, how to compost and rejuvenate soil with crop rotation and "green manure" and which direction to plant rows for optimal time in the sun. There are formulas throughout such as how high a retaining wall to build to protect plants from cold (the wall heats up during the day and radiates warmth back during the night), or how many degrees to slant a bed to maximize sun and minimize cold wind damage. He tells how to plan succession planting to have vegetables year round, rather than one humungous crop all at once. His tone is congenial, never talking down or above his target audience. It's fascinating--if you buy you won't be sorry!

This book is loaded with dynamite information. I have enjoyed reading it and will certainly make use of the info therein in the future!

Whether it's a weekend home, a shady retreat out in the garden, or just the memory of a summer spent at the beach, many of us associate a specific place with a feeling of getting away from it all. It's a place one goes to feel removed from the stresses of modern life and leaves feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Of course, your idea of a getaway depends on your definition of relaxation, and Chris Casson Madden's Getaways serves up a variety of exemplary, sometimes lavish, retreats, such as a 58-foot boat; a family farm with a menagerie of horses, ducks, geese, and goats; and a compound in the Hudson River Valley with its own natural waterfall. Several celebrity getaways are featured as well, including Michael Keaton's cabin on his Montana dude ranch, a boathouse on the Hudson River that serves as Toni Morrison's creative inspiration, and Katie Couric's country home.
Not all of Casson's getaways are the typical weekend or summer homes. Some are year-round retreats or even special rooms within a home. Donna Kaplan's re-created 19th-century French bathroom, with its antique glass perfume bottles, tapered candles, and fireplace, leaves her well rested after a long soak in the cast-iron tub. Lynn von Kersting and Richard Irving's Sunset Boulevard home has a pool and a porch filled with bohemian furnishings, cozy paper lanterns and candles, and lush tropical flowers and plants--a perfect spot for entertaining friends. Bob Levenson's garden getaway is a backyard arbor consisting of four intertwined gingko trees layered with clematis and climbing roses.
These imaginatively decorated and diverse retreats should inspire those with beach houses, cabins, and the like to consider how the elements of a "getaway" can be incorporated into their second home. And those currently without a getaway may be motivated to simply set aside a room or space outdoors that can serve as a sanctuary from busy otherworlds. --Kris Law
Book Description
A haven, a retreat, a special place that offers a sense of sanctuary--this is a getaway. And as Chris Casson Madden discovers in her beautiful new book, a getaway can be found in myriad forms and in varied locations. Whether it's a log cabin in the mountains, an elegant villa by the sea, or even a cozy suburban house lived in year-round, a true getaway encourages family gatherings and personal renewal.
In
Getaways: Carefree Retreats for All Seasons, Chris celebrates the easygoing spirit that creates such havens. She uncovers a harbor hideaway on a New England island, a one-room cottage by the race tracks of Saratoga Springs, a sleek farmhouse in the Malibu hills, and a Hudson Valley treehouse built for two little girls by their father. Other delightful retreats include a fragrant garden arbor in a Long Island backyard, a fifty-year-old yacht moored off the coast of California, and Chris's own stone house in the suburbs of New York. She visits the private escapes of renowned architects, designers, and artists, as well as the weekend homes of Katie Couric, Michael Keaton, and Toni Morrison. Along the way, Chris discusses the importance of creating a getaway to our physical and spiritual well-being. She also reveals the simple design elements that can inspire a feeling of comfort and warmth in any house.
In describing her rebuilt boathouse, Toni Morrison speaks of "a vision of a place you've had in your mind and when you find yourself there, you recognize it." With more than two hundred glorious photographs,
Getaways captures the essence of that vision and encourages readers to add its richness to their own homes.

This is 1 of my favorites.......2006-11-22
I've read dozens of decorating and vacation home books and this was worth every penny...I totally enjoyed reading it!
Ideas, Pictures, Variety of Styles!.......2004-12-20
Getaways provides 224 pages of large, gorgeous, color pictures. There are antiques, piles of books, bedcoverings, lamps, gardens, accents, and fixtures... there are a variety of styles displayed and too much to mention. Each picture creates its own feeling and it is easy to pick & choose to make your own perfect 'getaway'. We used some basic ideas for wallcoverings, flooring, curtains, and lighting to make our perfect little escape!
A Ton Of Great Decorating And Design Ideas!.......2001-09-17
I saw this book in an expensive little shop in Gatlinburg, Tennessee last August, and later bought it cheaper over the internet. After reading several negative reviews here, and knowing the quality of this volume, I can't understand why people would not love this book. Contrary to what two reviewers state here, it is not a small volume and the photographs are extremely well done. They range from a picturesque dock out over a body of water to sunrooms, bedrooms, libraries, old desks, etc, with associated text, and most here can be done by people with any decent and modest budget.
I just wish I had this book last year when we had a house built, but it is useful now anyway. It is a treasure worthy of more than five stars.
A TRUE GETAWAY.......2001-08-01
Ms. Madden captured the essence of getting away, and right in your own home!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book; it gave me several ideas that I could apply to my own living situation. It's fun to just step into the homes of people that we'll never meet. The photos and text were just great. Keep on writing Chris we love it!!!
A book that is great fun!.......2001-07-16
This book allows one to dive into the lives of the rich and famous and see first hand the enviromment where those such as celebirites go to relax. This book is creative and one of a kind!!!

Year-Round Cleaning.......2007-04-04
Don't think spring is the only time you have to do your cleaning. This book will show you how to divide up the work by season.
A Queen for All Seasons: By Linda Cobb.......2007-01-04
I think this book was very helpful to me in planning the different cleaning chores for all seasons. In stead of feeling like everything has to be done in the Spring of the year she shows you how to spread it out over the 12 months to accomplish the same results a clean house. I have tried may of her recipes for mixing up natural cleaning products and all I've tried have worked. I feel that Linda is really doing our planet some good by encouraging everyone to go back to using natural products and save our children, pets, planet.
Uh hello?.......2005-06-23
For those of you who hire a cleaning service - this is obviously not the book for you. If I hired a company to paint my house, I wouldn't buy a book on how to paint. Common sense, don't you think?
I for one, don't care for fly fishing. But the last thing I would do is look up a book on fly fishing - and write a review telling everyone how boring it is to fish!
As a mother of 2 young children who is looking to better organize my daily activities and my household - I loved the book. I can't wait to read more of her work.
Not all of us are SAHM's with nothing better to do..........2005-02-17
than read about cleaning! Wake up! This is reality. Most women work. Most men work. Not all of us working people have kids to stay at home with. Some of us work for a living, which leaves little free time. Reality is that I happily pay a cleaning service to clean my home, do my laundry, etc...once a week. This enables us to enjoy what little free time we have with each other rather than spend it on the drudgery which is housework. You've no room to call the other reader a snob.
A reader and real world person from ohio.......2004-07-01
First to the "snooty" I'll give mine away.. A reader from USA,
Since you received this for a shower gift, I can see why you were blinded with bliss. Has the real world set in yet? Well when it does, BUY the book, you'll need all the help it provides.
As for the millions of people who live in the real world this book is helpful, practical, and most importantly fun to read. Keep it as a reference when you are finished. QoC provides enjoyable reading and useful information for everyone, in each of her books. GREAT WORK!!

Interesting but disappointing.......2001-09-18
I bought this book because it was mentioned in an interior decorating magazine. The idea of decorating around one's favorite season was intriguing. The book is full of good photography, quality paper, elegant prose, and generalities; it is sparse on specifics. You do get some idea of color for the walls(usually white)and for furniture (usually wicker/rattan--three out of the four seasons). However, much of the rest is up to the reader to glean from the photographs. If you are into collecting decorating books, this is for you. If you are looking for help, turn elsewhere.
A Beautiful Book, Great Photography.......2000-02-22
This book is filled with photos of REAL places, rooms that I could have at home and really enjoy. I got some really great ideas and am planning to purchase some books to give as gifts to my friends and family. Meg and Steven Roberts have a real eye for great design.
A soulful reflection of the impact of homes on our lives.......1998-10-13
The design is classic and elegant, the writing insightful, and the powerful seasonal images make the homes real rather than flat design showcases. Enjoy!
