Conversations with horse is a great launching pad for a new exploration, not of what we have to teach horses but of what horses have to teach us. Those of us who try to really listen to our horses won't find a lot of new information, but will feel comforted and understood. Those of us who have been too scared to listen and let go of our weak methods of control like bits and stalls might get a gentle jostle to look closer. If you don't buy into animal communication, you probably will find this book to be paper thin. If you do accept animal communication this book with be as rich as a wedding cake. This book isn't about individual horse behavior or training, it is about connecting with the Great Mystery that is behind it all, where we and the horse can experience oneness.

While this is a small book, don't be fooled. It is not a quick read, neither is it trivial nor shallow. However, the average "horse person" will probably dismiss it as New Age airy-fairy baloney as it requires one to THINK. Remember: the number of years one associates with horses does not necessarily equate to knowledge or experience . . . there is a much bigger realm than the average mind recognizes. This book delves into the wider universe of co-existence as opposed to domination. It is not a how-to book about horses. It's a how-to book about life.

I was incredibly disappointed by this book. Of course, I have ridden, bred and trained horses since I was 10 years old. However, any fool who has every been around horses should have figured out everything Ms Solisti-Mattelon has to say in this book. That said, there are a lot o fools out there, so I'm sure there is a place for this book. Just don't expect great insight.

Just when you thought you've read all the "horse whisperer" books out there. This one finds me. I thought this would be the same as all the others: herd behavior, flight instinct. etc. etc. Well it was, and it wasn't. There were insightful, reassuring methods and so many things that I have never thought about. This book is full of wit and humor and reading it seems to float on a cloud...that may not make sense, but it will once you read it. It's like the whole world is resting on that pretty white pony's back and he's just sleeping and you can hear him thinking. It's amazing. Kate is the greatest.

Ms. Peake's comprehensive guide to starting a homebased antiques business was very helpful. Not only does she cover the basics of overhead and markup, as well as possible sources of antiques for resale, but she also addresses a number of important considerations before one even thinks about getting into the business. (A love of antiques and the "thrill of finding a treasure at a bargain price" are simply not enough to make a successful business.) This book is a must-read for anyone considering opening an antiques shop, homebased or otherwise.

I loved the book because it gives me a lot of ideas to try out with my son. The ideas in the book are imaginative, creative and fun. Some of the activities are quite difficult but overall, its a fairly good compilation of activities to do with kids. Not only does it keep them busy, but they will learn something form some activities too. Sure beats just letting them watch TV.

Lots of fun activities.......2001-11-29
Each card in this deck has a different activity on it - some activities are quick and simple, some are longer and messier - each one is creative and fun. I got them to help me be more fun with my 4-year-old nice and it was great! We had a blast making paperbag puppets and necklaces out of bits of paper and dental floss. Many projects were for a bit more mature audience, but we had a great time with the things we picked. Another good thing about the activities - you don't have to buy lots of stuff to do them.

This $10 book is way underpriced. There are pages and pages of stuff in this book and has really inspired our two year nine month old to entertain herself for hours, coloring, cutting, making paper airplanes, paper dolls, etc. Really well thought out, well designed. High quality drawings (authentic Scarry, not his estate's). I am tempted to buy another one and have our child start over again. It's been three months but she still has about one third of activities left. HIGHLY recommended.

Though this activity book is just wonderful and full of great crafting and learning acitivities, it is an abridged version of the book we loved when we were kids. The book, organized around the 12 number-it-yourself calendar pages, includes seasonal connect the dots, a paper village to color and build, paperdolls, paper airplanes to fold, greeting cards, Valentines, and bookmarks. The Christmas activities are missing altogether.

Twenty-eight years ago I recieved this book for Christmas. On a whim I checked to see if it was still available and I was SO happy to find out it is! My daughter loves it as much as I did when I was a child!

When my sister, brother and I were little, my parents bought us this book. I'm so glad to see it again! Not only did it keep us busy for hours, it kept us busy for DAYS! We kept going back to it; there was so much to do! Plus, it was great for our different age ranges - there were coloring pages for younger children, and lots of things to cut out and put together for children old enough to use scissors and glue (or tape). Best of all, even after we'd done everything, we were inspired to adapt the projects in our own way - such as, design and make our own paper airplanes or notecards based on the projects in the book. Definitely a must-have! Wonderful illustrations, too. The only thing I'd recommend is buying one for each child!

Lithgow has done it again with another great book to keep you kids both entertained and creative. His rainy day tips range from origami folding to mud painting to "po-art-ry," and there are so many that even the most obstinately bored child will find something to stimulate her mind. The book comes with a kit that contains all the hard-to-find items required for the projects, so parents won't have to drive around and hunt them down. I would recommend this to any parent with kids who love to have fun.

If you are like me and enjoy anything natural in the home, then you will enjoy this book. With this book, you recieve a history of fragrance, you learn how fragrances are extracted, the "aroma groups" fragrances are divided into, suggestions on which fragrances to use in each part of your home, and recipes to get you started. All the ingredients needed are completley natural, (ie tea tree oil, rose petals, lemon, cedar, etc) many you can grow in your own garden. Showcasing photographs worthy of an interior design book, The Scented Home is worth every penny.
