I've searched for a book just about Bullmastiffs, not Mastiffs in general and it's very hard to find. This book has tons of information that has helped me take better care of my babygirl(my dog daughter). Her name is Superstition Mountain Molly Dean Samantha Collins. (I know it's long but wanted to put both parents' names in there, plus we just call her Sammie or Sam) Anyway, thanks again.

I found this book to be disappointing. It wasn't very Bullmastiff specific, and I was appalled at some of the advice in it. Don't EVER give your Bullmastiff puppy, puppy food!

The names Bullmastiff, Bull and Mastiff, Bandog, Tiedog, and Gamekeeper's Night Dog have created an identity confusion of the breed known today as the Bullmastiff. It is one of the few dogs that was not adopted by Royalty and hence has not enjoyed the promotional publicity enjoyed by such breeds.
Owing to this, its origins, purposes and history have become a little obscure over time and lost in the annals of history. In the 1930's, breed historians such as Eric Makins and Arthur Craven did their best to axquaint the public with the breed of that time.
This book provides background, methods and a 'how-to' for novices and first-time owners, plus a host of information for the long-time fancier, in a comprehensive format to supplement the true fancier's library.

A must read for the Prospective Buyer and Current Owners. The time and effort put into this book by the Author reflects the wealth of extremely accurate knowledge he has of the breed. If you are a prospective first time buyer and looking at becoming the proud owner of such a wonderful breed of dog then this book is a must, It covers all the things you should consider and know before buying, how to choose the right puppy, feeding guides and recipes, Grooming tecniques, Health considerations,
Breed standards,training considerations, a very detailed history of the breed and much more. I found this book to be so extremely accurate and detailed as to what to expect that i wonder if the author is human or a bullmastiff that learnt to write.I highly reccommend this book.

This book is very informative and works for all levels. Reading this book has been very helpful with raising our own bullmastiffs, one of which we actually adopted from Bill. He is very knowledgeable and this book is very helpful in all aspects of raising a bullmastiff puppy. He provides a thorough explanation of lineage and the history of the bullmastiff.

We loved this book, great pictures, topics nicely arranged, very helpful basic information with some specifics. We plan on introducing a Bullmastiff to our family very soon and this book gave us a comfortable understanding of the breed. We do plan on purchasing a few more books on training but we feel we have all the knowledge we need about the Bullmastiff. Even if you do not plan on buying a bullmastiff you will after reading this book.

We are new to the breed and bought this book earlier this year to learn more about our new family member. Although, my first take on the book is that it was too focused on the professional breeder and showing the dog, I find I continue to go back to this book for basic information. Seems that I glean a little more info with each re-read. I still have unanswered basic questions but overall the book gave me much valuable information. We love the breed and are now 8 months into rearing a beautiful brindle bullie girl.

I think this is a great book. A good selection of photos for the expert collector as well as for the beginner. Good to see reference material on items that you actually have a chance to find at a reasonable price.
It's all right............2005-11-19
As a long-time collector of Japanese tin toys, I'm always eager to acquire new reference works, especially where most of the illustrations are in color. This book is ok, taking into consideration that Modern Toys Company is more or less the Budweiser of the Japanese tin toy industry. The pictures are small but quite high quality. My main reservations lie with the overwhelming number of toys from the 1970s that are pictured. As far as I am concerned, this was the nadir of their industry and most Jap tin toys made in that period are at best mediocre. They incorporate inordinate amounts of plastic, pretty crude shapes and in general are reminiscent of modern Chinese tin.
I expect I'll keep the book mainly because I maintain an extensive reference library. But if you're expecting anything at all close to the superb Kitahara titles, be warned. There are a number of quality toys pictured, but not enough.
Why it was necessary (given the long history of Masudaya) to provide no fewer than 20 illustrations of the 1970s Overland Express or Hill Climber trains, which came in numerous slightly different shapes and colors, I cannot imagine. This toy and its versions may excite the totally clueless dealer who finds one and puts it on Ebay as "probably 50s", but it has zero appeal to collectors. Indeed, when one is searching for "Japan Trains" on Ebay one spends most of one's time skipping over the endless examples of the Overland/Hill Climber offered for sale; which incidentally hardly ever get any bids.
A large proportion of the toys in the book don't deserve coverage, I'm afraid to say. The Japanese made very few charmless toys up through the 60s, but they made up for lost time in the 70s.

A beautiful 152 page, 8 1/2 x 11" softbound book contaiing more than 500, huge, sharp, beautiful full color photos. Some background information is included. Mostly a delightful picture-price guide ('98 pricing). Main topics range from breakfast cereals, candy, beverages, cookies and cakes to pet products, snacks, misc. non-food tins. A pleasure to view and enjoy the life-like tins. Superb photos and reproductions. Collectors will surely enjoy owning this book.

This book gives great descriptions and detailed pictures of the new collectible tins of the new era. The colored pictures are of vived detail and are a delight for the collector who wants to review the contents of this fine work often. I would hope that the author is considering expanding this fine work to other tins that are out there.

Great helps for a beginner.......1999-07-01
I am just starting to quilt and this book has lots of information besides lap quilting. In addition to the templates, there is valuable information about yardage and how to bind quilts. It shows how to add ruffles and how to do saw-toothed and scalloped edges. I especially liked the information on how to make continuous binding rather than buying ready made.

I haven't tried any of the projects yet, but there's a lot of variety here! Album quilts, bargello birds, pieceing, patchwork, classic and modern ideas, simple and complicated. Something for almost everyone!
