The Best Book on Brussels Griffons -- Really helpful........2007-09-10
This is a wonderful book if you are seriously interested in Brussels Griffons. The author is one of the top breeders of show Brussels Griffons, but she really knows EVERYTHING about how to keep a Brussels Griffon as a pet. When you buy this book, you are probably already in love with the breed, but this book explains all their little quirks. All the things that work well when training Griffons. Things they need, funny things they do, like smush their faces into pillows, how to train them. This book is very specifically about Brussels Griffons. The only criticism might be that it does not get into breeding them. But as a book for an owner of a Brussels Griffon, this is the best book on the market.
Best book out there on this terrific breed!.......2007-07-31
Ever notice how the majority of "breed specific" books contain 90% material that applies to just about all dogs, with just 10% actually being relevant to the breed? Not this one! A great, comprehensive, griffon specific book!
Outstanding Informational Reading !!!.......2007-04-25
I am lucky enough to have a Brussels for just over a year now and this is the best information source I have found, both prior to ownership and after. It is written by an individual that really cares for the breed and has extensive knowledge. And it reads like you are sitting across the kitchen table from the author absorbing her knowledge. And believe me...I should know what a great experience this is as I am fortunate enough to have as part of my family a wonderful baby girl from the author. I waited a long time for this book....thank you ...
This is a great book for a pet owner.......2007-04-17
I already own a Brussels Griffon and I am always interested in reading about them. There are few books on Brussels Griffons available, so I bought this one right away. I found that it is an EXCELLENT book for anyone who is interested in a Brussels Griffon or who owns one. Everything the book says about ownership and the little things you should know are really right on. The Health chapter is excellent because Griffs are generally very healthy but there are things you should know about them that might not be true for other breeds. All the other books you can tell were written by people who don't own the breed. They don't know the little special quirks the way this author does. Her love and caring about the breed comes through. I especially like the Chapter on Grooming because it took me awhile to get into a regular routine of how to groom my buddy, but if I 'd had this book, I would have known. Her advice on how to clear the hair from eyes is very useful. This writer emphasizes training the dog to stand on the grooming table and get used to being brushed, which is a good idea because that is the hardest part. All it takes is a little time to get them used to it, but it is much better than fighting them to stand still.
I like the information on training, which is all very sensible and specific to this breed, which is not the same as training a Golden Retriever. I 've trained one. I find much of the advice all through this book directed at keeping the new owner informed and calm about what to do when you first own this breed.
I saw that another reviewer criticized the book for not getting into handstripping, but my thought is, why would you want to do handstripping? It is painful for the dog and consumes hours of time for you, and in the end, my dog did not look different. I had read in other books that the coat becomes soft and light colored but that did not happen with my dog. This grooming advice is exactly the way I do it, and it took me about two or three years of the five years I owned Griffin to figure it out.
My opinion is that if you are going to the trouble of finding a Brussels Griffon to own, you should read this book.
Best Book on Brussels Griffons.......2007-04-07
We were looking to get a small dog for our family but we didn't know what kind. We heard Brussels Griffons are great family dogs so we bought this. This is a wonderful book! It really tells what the breed is like. We have a new puppy now and he is just perfect for us. The chapter on health is really interesting. This is written for a beginner so our daughter has been able to read it and help with the new dog. I bought a lot of books when I was looking for a new dog but none of them were as clear and well-written as this one.
Customer Reviews:
Obviously not written by a Griff breeder.......2005-07-07
What an insult to Griff breeders this book is. It is written by a writer who writes a lot of books about dogs, but he obviously never owned a Griff. The Griff has very special characteristics and needs, which the writer does not know. He probably used the same material to write about every other breed of dog, but Griffs are not just like other dogs.
Skip this book. The only good Griff book is by Doone Raynham but hard to get.
NOT VERY USEFUL.......2003-07-19
The "Brussels Griffon A Complete and Reliable Handbook" does not contain ANY USEFUL/VALUABLE information about the Breed AT ALL, just generally instructs you on how to raise a puppy which can be found in any other book (i.e. "HOW TO RAISE A PERFECT PUPPY" will also do the trick as it's just as NON-SPECIFIC about the Breed as "Brussels Griffon A Complete and Reliable Handbook")........WASTE OF PURCHASE.....NO MATTER HOW CHEAP IT'S BEING SOLD FOR..........the only reason I gave it a rating of "1 star" was that was the LOWEST RATING AVAIL...
Beautiful to look at, but formulaic text........1998-10-10
This book is one of a "breed" series by these well-known dog-subject publishers. Although it is beautifully produced with great photos, it contains several errors about Brussels Griffons probably due its generic, cookie-cutter format wherein much text is applicable to ANY breed. Also the book is filled with advertising for various dog foods & products which I, for one, resent.

GREAT BOOK.......2007-04-02
VERY HELPFUL BOOK. DISCUSSES PURCHASING AN OLDER GRIFF OR PUPPY. AS TITLE STATES IT IS COMPREHENSIVE. IF YOU ONLY OWN ONE BOOK IT SHOULD BE THIS.
Must have for any Griffon owner.......2006-07-31
As you may already know, finding information regarding Brussels Griffon's is slim to none. This book however, is excellent. It contains everything you need to know about the breed. From the history of the breed, training, habits, to common diseases, this book doesn't miss anything. I highly recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
Not a good book........2005-07-07
This book will do very little to help you understand the Brussels Griffon. There are only a few pages about Griffs. The rest is about any kind of dog, and Griffs are not like other dogs. They have many unusual traits. Save your money and buy a book that is really about Griffs. The only one I know of is Doone Raynham's.
Wonderful Photos and Descriptions of a Great Breed.......2004-06-01
I thought this book was a wonderful guide to the breed; the last 1/2 of the book consists of standard guidelines applicable to any breed. The first half has beautiful pictures of representatives of the breed and gives forth knowledge of their specific personalities. I especially love the dog on the cover of the book.
The Brussels Griffon : An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy P.......2000-05-19
It's a nice book, well printed with good pictures. Has good basic info about the Griffons. I get dissapionted with the training section. This section is for general dogs, not special for the Griffons. I think if you want general info (you don't know anyhing)about this dog you can by the book, but if you look just how you train your Griffon or want very deep info, don't buy it.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Customer Reviews:
Interested in the Western Tradition - this is a must have!.......2003-03-23
My AP European History students are required to purchase this book - and we basically read it from cover to cover. I have looked at literally hundreds of primary source readers - and can honestly say, this book is the best. The great thing about this book is that it weaves together primary source material with outstanding commentary and interpretation.
The selections are short but normally they contain the basic idea of each thinker. In here you can find all sorts of thinkers; philosophers, artists, scientists, theologians, and literary figures. If they impacted Western civilization - they will probably be included in this volume.
Pretty inexpensive volume - just think about it, you get to converse with some of the greatests minds that have ever lived. Not a bad way to spend an evening. :o)
Great book -- like the rest of his work.......2002-10-02
Baumer crusades to teach us from a historical perspective why we think the way we do -- much as genealogies teach us about the way we look and act. While my interests lie in economics, Baumer's narratives on developments of western thought provide a relevant and thoughtful backdrop. Why not, of course, the study of economics is all about the study of human behavior.
An excellent historical resource.......2000-07-11
This anthology is a must-have for any student or teacher of Western history. Its impeccably selected collection of excerpts from all fields of study makes it an invaluable resource for capturing the essence of any era in modern history.

Book Description
Throughout much of their modern history Britons turned to the past for evidence in current controversies. Within this tradition of historical self-justification the Middle Ages had a special place: the early forms of the law and the constitution belong to the medieval centuries while the continuous history of the English Church began in the Saxon age. In this dialogue between present and past new political realities, fresh sensibilities and developing scholarship ensured that the interpretation of the Middle Ages did not for long remain unaltered. This book examines the use of medieval precedent in political and ecclesiastical debate between one such great change, the Revolution of 1688, and the mid-nineteenth-century reforms that ultimately made the tradition of historical apologetic obsolete.

Book Description
This wide-ranging study of the court of Guelders in the Low Countries provides an excellent vantage point for the study of late medieval court culture. Despite being surrounded by the vast territories of the dukes of Burgundy, and the growing power of the Valois dukes, the court managed to remain independent until 1473. Archival sources convey the striking cultural and political richness of the court, poised between French and German spheres of influence, and demonstrate how Guelders can be considered as representative of Europe's many medium-sized courts.

Book Description
This work presents a connected account of western European thought from the Patristic age to the mid-fourteenth century. Dales aims to keep his reader close to the sense of the texts, which he translates, frequently at some length, or summarizes in his exposition. He attempts to include important matters which are generally omitted in broad treatments -- the chapter on the tenth century is the longest in the book -- but the author's choice of topics is fully justified by his special intimacy with what he elects to discuss, particularly the hexameral tradition (ancient and medieval), the scientific tradition, twelfth-century treatises on nature and cosmology, discussions of the eternity of the world, and the thought of Robert Grosseteste. This adds a personal and distinctive character to the word. Dales stresses throughout the diversity and vigor of medieval thought, qualities which he illustrates widely from Latin and vernacular poetry and literature of various kinds as well as from philosophical and theological texts.
