Good Sound Stuff.......2007-09-25
Useful ideas and tips giving a good grounding in bombproofing your horse. Lots of common sense stuff.
Easy Step-byStep Approach.......2007-05-15
I've actually been training despooking clinics for a few years now. However, my girlfriend recommended this book as another guide to help out. Read the book, and loved it. Simply laid out, with step-by-step approaches for many, many circumstances both on horseback, and on the ground. Straight forward and easily understood. I would definately recommend it to almost anyone interested in training their horse.
Knowledgeable practical advice.......2007-03-09
I found this book to be very practical and helpful. The author, having trained police horses, is very knowledgeable on the topic, and the exercises are clearly laid out with straightforward advice. He included general techniques for training as well as specific exercises for different spooky situations and discussed his philosophy on training while understanding horse's natural instincts. There was a big emphasis on safety for both the horse and rider while working through scary lessons. The information in this book would be applicable to riders in all disciplines. I highly recommend it.
Wasn't greatly impressed with the book/since I'm not a beginner.......2007-01-11
The book was ok but alot of stuff I was already doing with my horses. I would recommend it to someone who is just starting to learn how to despook horses.
Excellent Ideas for Improving a Spooky Horse.......2007-01-09
Easy to follow suggestions make this book a winner. Highly recommended!

The authors of our bestselling Standard Knife Collector's Guide, Cattaraugus Cutlery, The Big Book of Pocket Knives, and The Standard Guide to Razors are at it again. This time they have produced a book on Remington knives. Well known for their manufacture of quality firearms, Remington Arms Company also produced a complete line of quality cutlery from 1922 to 1940. There were literally hundreds of patterns and a variety of handle materials utilized on their knives. Today, these knives are collected internationally. This book provides knife collectors with an easy to use, reliable identification guide for Remington patterns, handle materials, and values. There are hundreds of pictures and descriptions throughout the book. Additionally, there is a history of Remington cutlery, blade design illustrations, a sampling of company cutlery advertisements, and a section on the current line of limited edition Remington knives. This book will find its place both on the reference shelves and in the pockets of serious and curious collectors of quality cutlery. AUTHORBIO: Ron Stewart is a noted expert on knives, and provides certified appraisals of knives and collections, as well as assists insurance companies with appraisals and adjustment evaluations. He and co-author Roy Ritchie published one of the earliest manuals for collectors, the Kentucky Knife Traders Manual. They went on to publish the bestselling Standard Knife Collector's Guide, then others like Big Book of Pocket Knives, Cattaraugus Cutlery Company, and Standard Guide to Razors.

Book Description
Irish homes fill these pages in elegant color photographs that evoke the romance and strength, the eccentricity and grace, of Ireland's built heritage.
From the unique Georgian style of the 18th century to the delicate Gothic that followed, from the delightful "cult of dilapidation" perfected by the Irish to the current triumphs of historic preservation-here are castles, houses grand and modest, country cottages, and fabled ruins. Visit Lexilip castle, built by the Normans around 1200; the two-room cottage built in Ulster by the ancestors of American financial tycoon Thomas Mellon; and the ghostly crumbling ruins of Woodstock House in County Kilkeny and Mount Shannon in County Limerick.
Each chapter presents a mood or perspective on Ireland's past, with photographs of architectural details, comfortable interiors, antiques, and landscapes. The text reveals the fascinating history of Irish homes, and stories of the characters who fill our daydreams of gentle country life.
Customer Reviews:
delightful .......2007-04-27
Beautiful photos, a lovely coffee table book. Really gives a sense of the romantic ireland
Romantic rooms.......2003-02-16
Sometimes astonishing, freqeuently amusing, this book is a peek behind the often closed doors of a variety of Irish homes. From the "Militant Grandeur" of great houses such as Castletown to the quirky cottage of two bachelor brothers with a passion for birds ("The Birdmen of Belmullet") the pictures tell of an approach to decorating that is different from that prevailing in neighboring England. There is a whimsy and romanticism in Irish decorating style, both high and low, that is distinctive. As a frequent visitor to the Emerald Isle, I've been in some of the featured locations (Castletown, Bantry House) and can testify that the other featured locations are not unique. I found the interiors of some of the recently restored buildings to be very inspiring as well.
Design Research Source.......2001-10-30
As the resident scenic designer for a professional theatre company, I am constantly searching for detailed, unique visual reference material to incorporate into my stage settings. Since we had the rare opportunity to produce the American premiere of "Kevin's Bed" from the Abbey Theatre last season (and will also be doing the American premiere of "Stella By Starlight" from the Abbey this season), I needed accurate information on contemporary Irish home interiors; not easy to find on this side of the Atlantic! This book has an interesting architectural mix from restored 18th century mansions to rural cottages with richly detailed large color photographs packed with just the kind of information that I was looking for. I would recommend this as a reference book for interior designers, Irish enthusiasts or anyone needing this kind of unique visual material.
Vivid and immensely-colorful.......1998-11-21
"The Irish Home" is a vivid and immensely-colorful volume. Ianthe Ruthven takes us from grand and ostentatious eighteenth century estates to contemporary Ireland's restoration homes (an exquisite example of the latter is Fedany, a former 1870s schoolhouse in Cork, that has been turned into a bright and resplendent abode). There are 200 large and beautifully-lit color pictures. (Ruthven, in addition to being a fine writer, is an accomplished photographer). Some of her best compositions here include the Leixlip Castle series; Phillipa Bayliss's bedroom and bookcase in the Old School; and the two-page spread of Gola Island, a secluded and now largely-deserted isle off the coast of Donegal. Ruthven, both in her prose and her photographs, readily captures what Irish novelist Molly Keane once noted about Irish country houses: That they "are ethereal in their uselessness, and extraordinary in the spaces their designers yielded to one object only--beauty."

1000 Practical Ideas for Home Decoration
ASIN: 0696214032 |
Book Description
Modern furniture, with its clean lines and pure shapes, has its own cachet. Dating from the 1920s to the mid-1960s, it represents several stages and sources of development: Marcel Breuer, who created tubular steel for chairs, tables, stools, and sofas in the 1920s; Gilbert Rhode and Russel Wright, who designed maple and birch furniture with sweeping, aerodynamic lines for Heywood-Wakefield in the 1930s; Bruno Mathsson and Alvar Aalto, who used blond birch plywood and heat-molding techniques to produce graceful furniture in the late 1930s; and architects and industrial designers who made goods with molded plastics, laminates, aluminum, and stainless-steel after World War II. By profiling the interiors of 14 homeowners, New Classic Style shows how to mix these pieces with traditional furnishings. Strategies include combining shapes to achieve harmony, using color to unify diverse furnishings, and contrasting the old and new. The results are dramatic, exciting, and comfortable. The book also explains key furniture shapes and important figures from each period in design history.

GREAT book for novice decorators........2004-08-21
This is a great book if you are looking for new ideas for your home and you don't want to spend a fortune. Also a great book if you want to NOT do what everyone else is doing!
An exciting book.......2003-03-20
I can't think when a new decorating book excited me as much as this one. I buy a lot of decorating books, but New Classic Style is so chic yet so helpful all at the same time. The premise, which is carried out stylishly by the photos, involves mixing classic furnishings from all eras and genres to create "personal" style. The book is so what I'm all about and what I see my friends doing. I've never seen a book on how to create your own mix before.

Book Description
Beyond minimalism there is a more ornamental approach to modern interiors. This yearning for individualism can be satisfied by combining interesting antiques or design classics with today's furniture, by being inventive with unusual textures and colors, and by commissioning custom-made pieces as focal points. Over 250 glorious inspirational photographs, specially shot in both America and Europe by Michael Banks, reveal some of the world's outstanding eclectic interiors. The informative text, written by interior design Orianna Fielding Banks, provides the design guidelines readers need to create their own inimitable version of the modern eclectic look.

Inspirational!.......2006-07-06
"Beyond minimalism there is a more ornamental approach to modern interiors." This statement couldn't be more true and this book is a great guide on navigating the marriage of the contrasting styles. I've often felt that contemporary design was visually a work of art that was cold, but when one chooses the perfect peices it can lead to the most accurate embodiment of personal style.

I loved this book. The images and narratives were great. Highly recommended.

Great help for a 1920s duplex.......2000-09-06
This is a great read for anyone struggling with a living space that presents unique architectural challenges, spacing constraints, and ambition to create an artistic and aesthetically pleasing living area. I bought this book while redecorating my duplex, which was built in 1926. The book was quite helpful with such items as combining old furniture with new pieces, modern art with classic or traditional interiors, and gave me a general sense of balance in terms of color, space and form vs. function. Specific areas it helped me with was what to do with some rather large modern painting I had, what lamps to get with glass coffee tables, and color schemes in older living spaces. I would recommend this book for anyone wanting an individual, artsy living area that will allow for your love of antique, art, and unique individual pieces. There is not a lot of text, but the photos are terrific.

Customer Reviews:
A pleasing addition to the sense of Design.......2001-04-24
A very comprehensive book full of pictures of everything it covers. All aspects of design are covered from floors, walls, colors, furniture, accessories .. etc. All rooms of a house are featured and very detailed explanations are with each picture. Many new ideas that are actually feasable. A beautiful book for anyone who is planning a new house or just renovating an existing one (like me). I Particularly liked the mix of colors and the various ideas for the floors. This is a excellent addition to my decor library.
Fresh and filled with ideas.......1999-04-06
Looking through this book will take the film from your eyes. The rooms often have wildly disparate pieces or structural elements juxtaposed, yet on page after page the results are elegant, clean and fresh. I found the book especially good at suggesting innovative storage and space solutions -- see the bright white classic colonial kitchen with columns, by Mark Epstein on page 112, or the modern kitchen, all warmth, light, and soft curves, by Leopoldo Rosati on 116. (Speaking of storage solutions, don't miss Rosati's stunningly sensible take on how to show off your wine, 118.) "Eclectic Interiors" is full of unusual, eclectic ideas -- Livingston has a terrific eye.

You don't have to be a fine artist or as rich as Midas to create a stylish, personalized, luxurious-feeling home. Many of the projects and techniques described in this lavishly illustrated book will take the reader from a half hour to a maximum of three hours to transform dull into dramatic and create stunning visual affects, whimsical touches, and infusions of color and texture. Lynn does not promote a particular style or taste, but rather shows the reader how to develop individual style and express it in doable ways without breaking the bank. Also covered are cosmetic fixes and quick-and-easy decorating tricks, party planning, and homemade gifts that are simple to make but elegant and memorable to give. The simplicity and modest cost of all the projects detailed by Lynn are sure to inspire the reader to begin the transformation of home into "home sweet home." --Mark A. Hetts
Book Description
For those of us who are too busy to spend a whole weekend preparing for a party or fixing up the living room, Bari Lynn offers this book full of time-saving projects.
In a few hours, you can transform an entire room--without breaking the bank. In less than the time it would take to shop in store after store for a housewarming gift, you can make a gift that is all the more meaningful because you made it with your own hands. Instead of spending a fortune on new table settings for a special dinner party, Bari shows you how to liven up your old china, glassware, and table linens for mere pennies.
Each project--from making a stitchless bed canopy to color-washing walls to making a mosaic serving tray using old, mismatched china--is fully illustrated with step-by-step color photographs and gorgeous pictures showing the finished product in Bari's or her friends' homes.
The twenty-five projects in Eclectic Living require only the most basic materials that you can find in crafts stores, hardware stores, or even at flea markets or in your attic. In the list of materials needed for each project, Bari indicates where you can buy them; she also provides a resource guide to suppliers, as well as a glossary of terms and tools used in the projects.
Bari firmly believes that home decorating, gift giving, and entertaining should not be difficult or expensive, nor should they be dull. That's why all of her projects are fun, simple, and dramatically effective as opportunities to express your own creativity and personal, eclectic taste--this is not department store style. It's yours.
Customer Reviews:
Great Ideas.......2000-05-28
Bari Lynn takes you through each project step by step in easy to understand language and uncomplicted directions. Also what I found helpful is that she provides the information where to purchase the supplies you need. In one weekend you can change the look of your house with very little effort and money.
Good starting point!.......2000-03-25
This is a collection of projects you can do in a short period of time, such as on a weekend. One or two, not ALL of them. I've done the simple bed canopy and I love it. Didn't take long, either! I've been doing flavored vinegars for Xmas gifts for years, and everyone loves them. The projects are easy and leave a lot of room for creativity and personal expression, and no right or wrong way to do them. They're also not as expensive as you might think. This is a good book for people who think that "decorating" means lots of loud flowery wall paper with upholstery fabric to match, new objects de art, and of course, lots of money. No, these are neat things that you can do to "redecorate" without "refinancing." There are great gift ideas as well, although I've not tried glass etching just yet! May I respectfully suggest that you do a good spring cleaning before considering decorating. Can't tell you how many people I know that want to redecorate, but never think of cleaning up first. Clear out your closet, neaten it up, donate or dispose of unneeded things, (See Suze Orman's The Courage to be rich), repair anything that needs repair (upholstery, vacuum cleaners, replace a picture frame's glass, furniture/chair/sofa legs, etc.), then think about the colorwashing on the walls, or something else. Then start thinking color and coordination, or not!
Great and Easy Ideas that Look GREAT.......1999-08-11
I found Bari Lynn's first book to be full of fun, great looking and inexpensive ideas. Her how to instructions are very thorough and all the color pictures illustrating key steps are a great help. I, for one, can't wait for her next book!
Refreshing new look at inexpensive home decorating.......1998-11-07
Eclectic Living by Bari Lynn shows her unique eclectic vision. Throughout the book her easy,cost-conscious creative ideas kept me saying "I can do that!" Looking forward the next of her series.
