I read this book from cover to cover and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It is a really great book for people who are thinking of getting a new dog but should not be used for breed specific information only. This book has very limited information on each breed and it is not overly detailed in regards to all a breed has to other or consideration as to health and special training issues that each breed might have.

If you are looking for a book that covers most aspects of dog ownership and how to start training then this a book for you. It is an easy read...full of really great ideas and solutions for your average dog with out many behavior issues. Great pictures and easy instructions. It lets you know the reality of owning a dog and how much commitment you need to have to achieve a well behaved dog from the start.

A good overall, generic resource; however, I caution against using it as your only resource for breed-specific information (section 2) because it only provides a brief overview of each breed. Specifically, each breed is only afforded one page (approximately 5-6 paragraphs) to describe its positives and negatives.

However, the good sections (which represent about 60% of the book's pages) are:

1) Section 3: What Makes a Dog a Dog? including How the Dog Came to Be Man's Best Friend, How the Dog Works, and Understanding Your Dog.

2) Section 4: Taking Care of Your Dog including Everyday Care for Your Dog, Keeping Your Dog Healthy, Common Canine Health Problems, Home Nursing, and First Aid.

3) Additional Resources section: including, Important Telephone Numbers, Breed Organizations and Kennel Clubs, Organized Sports and Showing, Recommended Reading, and miscellaneous dog-related resource organizations.

Some of the facts in this pet care guide are innaccurate, as well as MOST of them being true. Although some of the life span facts, and ibs. facts are incorrect. This dog guide is worth buying, as long as you don't rely on it as your number one recource. Use the internet, and other books as well, to backup some of your un-answered questions, and facts you're un-sure of in this dog care guide. This book is great for looking up quick facts, but not great for searching up a full backround, or history check on a specific breed,and/or illness.

This book is an excellent primer for someone interested in an overview of the needs of a family/person getting a dog. It is also very useful in providing information about different breeds with the characteristics and tempererament of the various breeds. For someone who is interested in a "purebred" dog, this book is an excellent research tool. For someone interested in an overview of the dogs needs and requirements, this book is a very useful tool.

This book is a very good book to reference to and look at if you need help with something, but some of the dog breeds traits are listed inaccurately... Like for example: A dog breed might be listed as easy to groom, but in real life, grooming is a challenge! Or the dog breed might be listed as something and actually be something else... It's an interesting book, but don't use it as your only resource to a breed. Search the internet a little bit and see if it is actually what you think it is.

The Whole Family CAN Enjoy this Magickal Little Volume!!.......2004-01-12

I bought this book with a bit of skepticism...a book on valentines alone, coming in at 96 pages?? Could this be good? Would it have very many good craft projects that I would ACTUALLY be able to do or that I would WANT to do? Any that my kids (at ages 3 & 5) would be able to help with? Would I be able to adapt any of what was in these pages to "punch up" or help take my magickal working into some new areas (hey, who cannot use a bit of help in the romance department every now and then...keeps things interesting and fun!) I have to admit I've had a few stinkers of late when it comes to books of this kind. I must say I was very pleasantly (very, very) surprised when I got it..

I "devoured" it in less than an hour. After my initial reading, I got out my requisite stickies and marked pages I could actually use (either alone, with my kids or in my magick)...I came away with quite a few...many could be done with my kids (though at there age all of them would be supervised activates...older kids -- say ages 7-10 could most certainly do many of the crafts in this book alone). I found several that were both fun, easy and attractive -- my fears about hokey or tacky looking decorations and projects was quickly laid to rest!! These projects could actually be as elegant and classy as you like or as silly and hokey -- depending on what your going for (hey, I admit hokey DOES have a place in our lives!)...the projects are easily explained, the materials are not too numerous (nor are the expensive) to make these projects daunting or overly time consuming (we've all got busy lives...I'd say several could be done in about 30 mins...and some could take several hours...but I didn't think any couldn't be done in say an evening (with the exception of the bubble paper...this would take two days total with drying time) or a rainy day at home!!

While specifically for Valentines day, this book could be used at almost anytime of the year...your loved one's (and you too) deserve to be acknowledged more than once a year...and romance, love, and self-healing magick can certainly be enhanced utilizing some of the ideas in this book!!!

It's certainly refreshing to find a book with quality projects and recipes that are classy and fun without being Martha Stewart caliber snooty and darn hard to actually do in today's busy work-a-day world!! This book comes highly recommended for both the "normal crafter" and the Magickal one!

B+ for Price (at about 11.00, perhaps slightly more I would rather see this at about 9.95 or slightly less for the number of pages)

Great Book.......2006-02-23

This book was great for helping plan my son's kindergarten valentine party. The snack ideas were super and pretty easy to assemble. The highlight of the book is the valentine bingo game where everyone wins at the same time. The children just loved the game as they all shouted "bingo" at the same time. We also did the ice cube game and the cupid game. Both were also big hits with the children! I would highly recommend this book for any class parent needing some creative ideas for kids from 5+.

I run an after-school program for a non-profit organization with children that range in age from 6 to 14. It's very difficult to plan holiday events that will interest all the kids, but I got some great ideas from this book! It covers everything from games, to crafts and special treats. While most of the activities are geared towards the younger crowd, I was able to extract some ideas for the older kids as well. A very well organized and creative book!
