I LOVE IT!!!!!!!.......2006-05-03
My thirty year old grandson got me this book and I LOVED IT!!!!! My wife read it to me out loud and I enjoyed it very much. It did take us a year of steady reading but it was worth it. To all those 87 year olds out there, get this book!!!
Unsuitable for Toddlers.......2006-04-13
I purchased both My First Winnie-The-Poor and Bedtime with Winnie-The-Poor for my 2 year old granddaughter who is beginning to look at Pooh stuffed animals, etc. These are board books, designed for the very young, but these two books are simply scattered exerpts from the full length book or "Now We Are Six." Some can stand alone, but others simply start with a paragraph from Pooh and end a few paragraphs later with no "ending" understandable for a 2-3 year old. A child fully able to appreciate the exerpts would be better off having the REAL Pooh read to him or her by an adult.
my first winnie collection book.......2005-08-05
I am starting a collection of the much loved children's book's for my grandson, & was happy to add this pooh book
A favorite of my two year old daughter.......2003-09-10
What a pleasure to have well written poetry that appeals to my 2 year old daughter! This book is a current favorite of hers, and we read it to her every night. The classic poems by AA Milne are as appealing to me as they are to her, and the illustrations by Ernest H Shepard make me look forward to my daughter growing up with all of AA Milne's books.
One disappointment - nowhere in the book does it point out (for the parent reading them over and over) that the poems contained in the book are often parts of larger poems written by A.A. Milne. You'll need to find a different book if you want the full poems of "Us Two", "Vespers", and "Nursery Chairs" for example.
Otherwise, a great book to add to your child's collection!

Categories include Christmas, Indians, World War I, Advertising, Harrison Fisher, Novelty, Blacks, and Political.
Customer Reviews:
Classic reference.......2002-10-31
This is a nicely organized book chock-full of great pictures. It begins with a brief history of the teddy bear, conservation tips, and guidelines on what to look for when investing in a bear. It moves on to discuss Steiff dolls and animals with guidelines for evaluating Steiff dolls/animals for purchase or sale. The book covers miniature bears, Teddy Bears before 1940, Teddy Bears from 1940-1980, contemporary Teddy Bears (as of 1984), artist bears, Teddy Bear related items, Steiff Dolls, Steiff Animals before 1940, and Steiff Animals from 1940-1984.
Hundreds of items are photographed and described in detail with notations on what adds value and/or is rare. Even though the first edition came out eighteen years ago, it still remains a classic reference/guide and it is updated every few years.
Not for Steiff Collectors.......2000-11-05
Firstly are you a Steiff or TeddyBear in general collector. If the answer is Steiff this book will have no use to you. The first seven pages are informative but after that it is packed full of colour pictures obtained from peoples personal collectons. It is more like a photo album of bears, although saying this, the pictures are of excellent quality. If you want to check the value of a bear pictured you have to look up the page number at the back of the book and find the relevant item. I have 15 Steiff Bears and not one of them were listed, I have looked through this book 3-4 times and all in all I am dissapointed in it. I will place it in the book cabinet and probably never look at it again.

Fun Way To Teach Emotions.......2003-04-11
My daughter really likes this book that her grandma got her. She always likes seeing Teddy Bears in books for one thing. Plus she loves puzzles. She knew right away what to do with the faces. But I'm still working with her to understand what goes where and why. The story is simple but fitting for the purpose. Very cute, vivid pictures.
There are a few MINOR problems I have with it.
1 - It would be nice if there were more faces (enough to fill the pages)
2 - I agree that the flaps are flimsy esp. in a toddler's hands
3 - The "angry face" wasn't cut right and didn't fit into the spaces (frustrating for a little one). I had to shave away an edge with a knife so it would work.
4 - Faces can get lost very easily if you're not careful. Good idea to put this book away whenever they are done with it, which also helps with the durability issue.
This book taught my daughter to say HAPPY!.......2003-01-16
This is a great book! To me it ranks up there with Goodnight Moon. The removable Teddy Bear faces make this an interactive book that's fun. My daughter looks for this book first at Grandma's house and I want to get one for here at home. She now says "happy" thanks to this book! A must-have.
What a great, interactive book!.......1999-09-30
My one year old loves books, but this one is her absolute favorite! This book not only teaches her about different emotions and expressions, but also develops her fine motor skills. She loves to take the bear faces out of the flaps and place them on the different bear bodies in the book. The only complaint I have, is I wish the flaps were stronger, because two of them ripped quite quickly. Overall, a great interactive book, that I know she will enjoy even more when she gets older.
Book Description
Cloth dolls and wooden dolls; life-size figures and those as small as clothespins; dolls as ornaments and a complete set of dolls—like a miniature family: oh, what a beautiful doll you can make with this well-illustrated guide at your side. As with all the acclaimed For the First Time books, it teaches the basics, from preparing the patterns to painting the face and styling the hair. The techniques unspool in an easy-to-follow question and answer form—How do I make a simple cloth doll? How do I make a doll with button-on joints?—accompanied by a project. Above all, every page encourages crafters to break the rules, use their imagination, and find ways of making each doll special and personal.
Customer Reviews:
Dolls homely, techniques helpful.......2006-06-18
These dolls are not my style, but the lessons are good and progressive. I will apply them to other types of dolls. She even shows you how to make your own shoes to fit any dolls. One tip that she gives I disagree with; she makes fingered dolls by placing a folded pipe cleaner in each finger, which makes the hands look elongated. A more natural hand is made by making the hand then using hand stitches on the outside.
Unleash your inner primitive folk artist!.......2006-05-11
This book is a thorough course in the basics of doll-making. I do think the title is a bit broad, since this covers the folk style of doll-making exclusively. The instructions and color photos are excellent.
The Doll Making Basics section is almost a complete course in itself. The techniques are general in nature, and could be used in designing your own dolls. Almost every page has multiple color photos that are very helpful. The directions for making a cloth doll illustrate in detail how to sculpt fingers, toes and faces. Next, the basics of making a wooden doll are shown. Hairdos, clothing, shoes and embellishments round out this section.
The crafts skills that you will use the most are sewing (hand and machine) and decorative painting. A big heaping of creativity and personality help out, too.
The projects are arranged in order of difficulty, and each doll is designed to teach a different aspect of doll-making -- using patterns, mixing wood & cloth, sculpting faces, adding a beard, making an ornament, painting methods, and more.
Due to the clear instructions and photos, and the emphasis on learning new crafts techniques, this is a reference book that you can use again and again. It's a great example of how craft techniques should be taught.
Inspiration for the beginner.......2005-01-09
This is a beautiful book filled with photos, clear instructions and inspiration for making a personable first doll. Instructions guide one through the basics of making the dolls presented and the skills needed to move beyond. The range of dolls presented provides a jumping-off point for creatively making a doll of your own. I have dipped my fingers into doll-making for a long time but after reading this book, I am ready!

Do *Your* Kids Know the Stay-Safe Rules?.......2006-12-15
"Don't Talk to Strangers, Pooh!" is part of the "My Very First Winnie the Pooh" series, which also includes "Roo's New Baby-Sitter" and "Tigger's Moving Day," among others.
In this book, Winnie the Pooh learns that his good friend Christopher Robin is going to his Grandma's house for supper all on his own. Pooh and Piglet are worried about him being all by himself, but Christopher Robin tells them that it isn't so scary if you know what to do to stay safe. He gives them a set of rules to follow and they put them to good use later on. Christopher Robin is very impressed with how well they learned them.
Christopher Robin's rules include "Don't talk to strangers" and "Never take a ride with a stranger" among others. They're all included on the last page at the very back of the book. At this time, or any time, it is always important for kids to know what to do to stay safe when it comes to strangers, but to also know that they can be safe with their friends. These favorite characters, Pooh, Christopher Robin and all their friends can help them to learn just what to do.
Non-threatening way to teach caution about strangers........2000-09-13
This book was wonderful. Talking to children about strangers can be difficult. You want them to be cautious but don't want to frighten them. How do you tell them that not all strangers are bad and still warn them that some are dangerous? Get this book - it is a great, non-threatening way to teach your children to be wary of strangers. Christopher Robin explains to Pooh & Piglet that most strangers are nice but some aren't. Since you can't tell which are which, you never talk to any strangers. The best point, I thought, was how Christopher Robin explained that strangers are not people who looked strange but are people you don't know. That's a hard point to get across to kids. At the end, is a list of "Christopher Robin's Stay Safe Rules." I plan on buying a copy of this book for everyone I know who has kids, that's how great I think it is.
