The female version of Hans Silvester.......2005-08-04
When you run out of books from Hans Silvester to feast your eyes on, turn to Rachel Hale (or vice versa). Both photographers displayed astonishing patience & skills in shooting the felines in their natural surrounding. This is a beautiful book that every cat lover should see.

So detail oriented~.......2003-11-15
This book is PERFECT for the advanced collector. Going thru each style of BARBIE from Ponytails thru TNT's. If you are looking for price guides, this is not the book for you. If you are wondering what the difference between white ginger and platinum bubbles, or what year TNT's had centered eyes, or to just drool over totally mint rare dolls, THIS IS FOR YOU! I really like it.
Excellent Close Up Photos - Great for Restoration Samples!.......2002-06-28
This book is really a "fluff" version of the Barbie collector books. It doesn't have price guides, it doesn't list all the markings for the correct bodies, etc. However, what it does have is gorgeous up-close photos of mint vintage dolls. Whenever I'm having a doll restored, this is the book I turn to for excellent examples. I color copy the pages and send them to my restorationist. It shows many dolls of the same line so you can see and compare hair colors, make-up, etc. I highly recommend it to any Barbie collector. The most goreous book on the subject!
COMPLETE AND COLORFUL.......2001-08-14
She's perky, pretty, and piquant. She's a Barbie doll, the icon and idol of millions of preteen girls. Television producer/photographer Christopher Varaste takes us back to the 1960s when Barbie was on the rise embodying the face, figure and styles of that decade.
Turning the pages of this delightful and informative album is a nostalgic retro look at the way we were - when frosted lipstick was the rage, of course, Barbie wore it. Her golden hair was seen swinging in a bobbing pony tail or poufed into a Bubble Cut.
As women grew more independent so did Barbie. She entered the job market as a career girl (well dressed, of course), zipped around town in a peony pink roadster, became an American Airlines stewardess, and even soared into space. She acquired the then fashionable Carnaby Street "mod look." And, Barbie had a theatrical bent appearing as "Guinevere." Whatever young girls dreamed of Barbie could become.
Most of us age but Barbie evolves as Varaste's complete and colorful book reminds us.
Not impressed with this book.......2000-04-02
I am not impressed with this book. There are no values/price guides. No reference materials at all. All I see in this book is whimsical pictures.
A reader from Portland, Oregon and Barbie expert for 10 yrs.......2000-03-03
This book is one of the most beautiful Barbie books ever written. The pictures are beautiful. The dolls represent pictures of many of the best barbie collections in the World. The information is quite extensive. I give it a 11! Simply the best!
Book Description
A family history in patches and stories
Summer evenings at Grandma’s house always end just the way Sadie likes – with Grandma tucking her in with the name quilt. As Sadie chooses from among the patchwork of hand-stitched names of generations of relatives, Grandma tells story after story – stories of hog-riding and hornets and Grandma’s own wedding. Then one summer day, a fierce storm comes on too quickly to get the washing off the line, and the quilt is blown away. That night, Sadie worries that more than just the quilt has disappeared, until Grandma shows her that all her favorite names and stories are more a part of Sadie than she knows.
Phyllis Root’s loving tribute to a bedtime ritual from her own childhood and Margot Apple’s intricate illustrations bring the story of Sadie and the name quilt to the page with just the right touch of humor and heart.
Customer Reviews:
Quilt book.......2006-07-23
An excellent read-aloud story for children. The text tells how quilts told stories and how the first quilts were made from materials at hand. This is an excellent book to read if you were planning on designing a quilt, real with cloth or with paper blocks, with younger children. The pictures are very well done with great colors.

Book Description
The creator of Floss stitches together a comforting new baby gift - and a gentle tribute to family and home.
"There is a farm far away from the town, in a valley in the hills where
a river runs. . . . This is home, my little one. This is where we live."
As Mother sews a quilt for Baby, she quietly tells its story, patchwork square by square. There are the frolicking sheep and lambs, and there’s the collie, Floss, who helps Daddy herd them. There are the mare and her frisky foal, a flapping goose and her gosling, a cat curled up with her kitten. And when the story is done, there is a soft quilt to surround Baby with all the scenes of a family’s familiar world.

Book Description
Reuben was ducking strawberries in the truckpatch when his dad got the idea about making a quilt. The whole family would help (even Sadie, who threw the plump red berries). They would make it as beautiful as possible. Then they would sell it at the auction to raise money for an operation needed by their neighbor on the next farm. But the colorful Log Cabin quilt disappears before they have a chance to give it away. This hearty Amish family faces a new adventure! Moss and Good's new collaboration is as rich and lively as their two highly successful earlier books--Reuben and the Fire and Reuben and the Blizzard.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book.......2003-03-09
We live near Amish country (in Pennsylvania, even!), so this was like a neighbor's tale for my grand-daughter. She had just taken a few quilting lessons to make her baby brother a log cabin quilt for Christmas (well, it started as for her parents, then shrunk to baby brother, and from Christmas it has now moved to someday), so this story of a log cabin quilt really hit the mark. It was beautifully illustrated, strong family and faith values and left you wondering what really happened.
Reuben adn the Quilt.......2000-04-22
Excellent children's book explaining Amish people and their beliefs. Short story that would keep the interest of a child but also teach them Amish words and ways. Illustrations are excellent. I purchased this book for my grandchildren and am sure they will enjoy it as much as I do.

An alphabet of riddles.......2004-03-03
This book features 26 short riddles where the key words are never named explicitly. Instead, they are described with rhyming pictures and shown in the pictures. Some of the clues are obvious, and others will cause even adults to pause and think a bit. The blurb on the cover says "Each letter has a poem. Every poem has a clue. The answers are in the back." There are no scary parts in the book. The book has about 600 words.
With full color, impressionistic-style illustrations.......2001-08-17
Lesa Cline-Ransome's Quilt Alphabet is a children's alphabet book with full color, impressionistic-style illustrations. In addition to the eye-catching pictures, each page has a short, memorable rhyme about an alphabet letter. The final page shows all twenty-six letters, each with a corresponding sample word, so as to better impress the alphabet in young minds just learning to read. An excellent early learning book.
Book Description
Grandmother wanted firewood. But one by one, the family members who went to the woods to gather sticks came back with unlikely tales. A wolf tried to eat the boy's shirt. Deer nibbled his sister's dress. Swans attacked their mother. And the baby? Even the baby had an adventure. in the end, no wood was gathered, but the family had a fine collection of far-fetched stories. And thanks to Grandma's ingenuity, these stories kept them warm and cozy during the long, hard winter.
Customer Reviews:
Great fun to read aloud.......2006-11-12
I found this book to go with a quilting art project we wanted to carry out at our preschool. The children loved hearing this read aloud. The language is rhythmic with opportunities for different voices. The story has some ambiguous qualities that lead to interesting discussions. And, it conveys perfectly to three and four year olds how quilts come to be and how comforting they are. The book is also visually very interesting. A big hit.
A modern-day fairy tale.......2003-12-10
In this book, grandma goes out to her woodpile one fall and decides that she will need some more wood to make it through the winter. She asks her grandson to go into the forest to get some more wood, but he gets distracted along the way, and comes back empty handed with his shirt in tatters. Rather than berate him about not bringing back any wood, grandma simply takes his shirt away and throws it in the woodbox instead. She sends each of the other family members to the forest in turn, with similar results. By the beginning of winter, she gets no additional firewood, and her family are cold, since their clothes are in her woodbox. Then grandma gets the brilliant idea of making a quilt with the tattered clothes, that will keep everyone warm much longer than the wood might have. The story is quite engaging and full of thought, and the pictures tell stories in themselves. All told, the book has about 1000 words.
Fun book with very original and creative illustrations.......2003-02-02
This is a really good book with great illustrations and a funny storyline that you won't mind having to read over and over again to your kids. It is a story that lends itself to animated storytelling, if you are like me and like to liven up bedtime stories with lots of inflection and a different voice for each character in the book. Your kids will love the funny far-fetched stories and the interesting illustrations that incorporate fabric from articles of clothing in the story into the illustrations. The illustrations will be especially interesting to those moms who enjoy quilting and needlework when they are not running around after kids or reading them 5 or 6 bedtime stories. Highly recommended.

Make for and with your children.......2002-08-31
Susie Lacome has made this cute, colorful book about crafty things to make for children. With easy to follow step by step instructions this book gives you alot of crafty ideas. Not only to make for your children. I find the book even more useful for making craft with my children.
The book is divided into four sections, The Playroom, The Nursery, The Bathroom and The Bedroom. And each section gives various ideas. In the playroom you find the bunny rocksack for examle, the cutest little rucksack any kid will love wearing to kindergarten, or on a shopping trip with grandma. For the nursery there is instructions for a rag book, and why not use the instructions to make a rag book using the drawings made by your own child? The ideas in the book are so many, I will not mention them all, but what about dressing gowns and slippers using your kid's design, or an owl quilt for the bedroom.
The last part of the book is filled with useful techniques and tips, so you don't have to be a master to make the crafts of this book. Any mother, father or grandparents, yes, any child (almost) can make creative projects with the ideas from this book.
Britt Arnhild Lindland
Interesting book if you use a little imagination.......1999-08-09
The instructions and project illustrations in this book are great! The only downfall would be that the pictures are a bit out-dated in their selection of fabric. However, it's nothing a little imagination on the reader's part can't fix.

Book Description
This study looks at the Islamic character of the Acehnese state in the seventeenth century. It examines not only its Islamic institutions but also its political culture and policies towards Islam. The discussion begins with a historical sketch of the rise of Aceh in the sixteenth century, followed by an analysis of the ruler and authority, the royal enclosure, Islamic religious ceremonies and the Islamic institutions of the state. The work concludes with a brief comparison of Aceh with other Islamic states in the region, especially Melaka and Mataram, whereby it is shown that the Islamic nature of the Acehnese state was more pronounced. This study is of particular interest to scholars and students of Islam, history, anthropology and political science.
