Roasted Garlic Soup.......2003-12-07
The reviewer who threw the book out made an error by saying that there was only 1 1/2 cups of liquid: the recipes calls for 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk AND 1/2 cup of cream. Also, it says to add some more buttermilk IF the soup is too thick. Given that this is a very rich soup, it would indeed be appropriate to serve 4 with a half cup for each person.
Aside from this correction, I would like to add that I have made several things from this book and am satisfied that it is well worth acquiring for any garlic (and food!) lover.

Every summer, the Gilroy Garlic Festival, in Gilroy, California, draws more than 150,000 visitors who watch chefs do their cooking magic over outdoor firepits. Clubs and civic groups cook an immense array of garlic dishes from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, China, Japan, Korea, India, Greece and the Philippine Islands.
The best of these recipes were gathered together and published. The result was this book. Mmmmm, garlic.

I have to go and make scampi in butter sauce, now (one tablespoon of finely minced garlic in the butter sauce, plus a lot of other stuff that isn't garlic.)

I have been a decent cook for a family of five for 40 years and have used many cookbooks. The first recipe I tried in this cookbook (roasted garlic soup)failed completely. The recipe was to make enough to feed four people but only called for one and a half cups of liquid. I then realized that about 4 cups of liquid was not included in the recipe. I have to guess they forgot the most crucial ingredient, chicken broth. I threw the book out.

For anyone who likes garlic, this is a great cookbook with some awesome recipes! If you like garlic when you buy this, your going to LOVE it after trying a few recipes in here!!

LOVE the restaurant, and the cookbook is a great extension of some of the great recipes they share! I slow-roasted a roast this weekend and the aromas in my house were unbelieveable.......the cheese fondue recipe is fabulous!!

This Book is one of my most ofton used cook books. I use this cookbook every time I enter tain. The Stuffed Mushroom Recipe has made some of my dinner partys famous. It's a great cook book to own and a must. If you love garlic.

I had a student working on a report (actually it was his mother doing the inquiring, he was contemplating "other things") VEGETABLES.
The last part of the project that was being worked-on was for a recipe. His topic was carrots. I hate to tell you what transpired during the
recipe search, but he did not like carrot cake. The mother insisted that he did not need make it. He did not care whether he had to make
it or not, he sure did not want her to include that recipe!
I wound-up ordering the attached list of books. They came into the library a week ago. What a great little series. Do take the time to
peruse Amazon. They are a real "repast!"

This is a great, fun book!.......2000-05-01
This recipe book is published by The Stinking Rose Restaurant, a famous garlic restaurant in San Francisco. Before Revealing the secrets of 36 of their garlic dishes, The book starts by explaining to you in layman's terms, information on how to purchase, store and prepare garlic. The author has a great sense of humor, while still managing to remain informative and on topic. The interior of the book has many illustrations that are often drop dead hysterical, which makes this a really fun book that everyone can enjoy.
The cooking instructions are fairly easy and simple; the dishes prepared at home often do not taste the same as the dishes you'd find at the restaurant. I usually end up eating at the restaurant instead, and this book becomes a valuable companion to me when I eat there. Generally speaking, this book is really worth your money; you just can't go wrong. Well, at the very least, You'd get a good laugh out of it, and have yourself a pretty good talk piece!

Garlic Lovers Must Have Cookbook.......2003-01-13
I've cooked with garlic all my life but never knew there were so many other delicious ways to cook and use garlic. Love this book and highly recommend for the beginner as well as a seasoned cook. The recipes are from all over the world and photos alone are enough to motivate you to create these unforgettable crowd pleasures.
Delicious Recipes..................2002-03-06
.........this collection of almost fifty international recipes that are chock full of garlic is simply wonderful so far. Many of the recipes are accompanied by mouth watering photos that will make any garlic lover eager to start whipping up a few dishes immediately! Just a few of the recipes that we've enjoyed in my kitchen so far include: Roasted Garlic, Bruschetta Con Pomodori, Garlic Soup, Chicken with 40 Cloves of Garlic, Lamb and Spinach Curry, Mushrooms Sautéed with Garlic and Parsley and Braised Cauliflower with Indian Spices.
We are also eager to try: Garlic Shrimp, Thai Noodle Salad, North Beach Cioppino, Thai Grilled Garlic Chicken, Indian Garlic Beef with Peas, and much more.
There is a minor disappointment with this cookbook. For those familiar with "The Best of......" cookbook series, some of these recipes will look familiar. I can tell you that I own "The Best of Mexico" and that numerous, albeit very delicious, recipes (Arroz Mexicana, Salsa Verde, Mexican Garlic Black Bean Soup, Grilled Achiote Shrimp, Mole Poblano de Guajolote, Pozole Rojo) from this cookbook now turn up in "The International Garlic Cookbook". The only modification made to each of these recipes is that the amount of garlic has been increased. I felt a bit "ripped off" by the re-use of these recipes, and due to the fact that each was perfectly fine when originally published containing less garlic. Had the authors not done this, I would be eager to give this cookbook five stars.
This cookbook also includes a brief section on cooking with garlic and on the history of cooking with garlic throughout the world. It is a most enjoyable cookbook, which I recommend for its many excellent recipes despite the "re-invention" of previous recipes.

The Essential,No-Frills List.......2001-04-30
Mr. Vernon a retired British schoolteacher who resides in California has updated his popular and comprehensive guide to world medals and their prices. If one is a novice to the world of medal collecting, this book is a standard refernce. Copiously illustrated by black and white photos, the book is organized by country and thereafter by standard order of wearing precedence: Orders, gallantry awards, campaign awards, long service awards etc.. Vernon then lists each and every medal (including standard variations) at their "list" price as he has noted their sale over the past 5 years. Over 8,000 medals are listed by my count. Want to know how much a Silesian Eagle with swords is worth? Ever wondered what a Turkish "Gallipoli Star" looked like? This book can show you. The author also handily includes some surficial notes on various awards noting recent fakes and signs of copies. While this is no small, thin book its only frustration is that it contains a only a modest number (e.g. @1000) of photos relative to the items listed. However, this is understandible, since to illustrate every medal in the world be impossible.
