Book Description
A Chicago journalist finds himself in a small Texas town on Christmas eve. Lonely and alone, he encounters old faces and new facts…a hand carved manger, a father's guilt, a young girl's faith. The trip into the past holds his key to the future, and a scarlet cross shows him the way home.
This Christmas treasure, formerly titled The Christmas Cross now repackaged and redesigned, is quickly becoming a Christmas classic.
The book takes place in three different settings with four main characters. The film has expanded to include nearly 69 locations, 347 set-ups, 34 speaking parts and over 300 extras.
The Christmas Child is directed by Bill Ewing, the former Senior Vice-President of Sony Pictures, whose last films included Men in Black II and Spiderman. The film is produced by Tom Newman of Impact Productions and Penelope Foster, producer of Free Willy, Rosewood and many more. The main character, Jack, is played by William Moses (of Perry Mason and Falcon's Crest). His wife, Meg, is played Megan Follows (of Anne of Green Gables). Also features Steven Curtis Chapman as the town's minister.
Customer Reviews:
A bit long, but very good........2007-04-19
Max Lucado may not be the best theologian out there, but when it comes to turning out a heart-warming story he knows how to hit the mark. Another great book by Lucado on Christmas.
Healing for the soul.......2005-01-01
This book was purchased as a Christmas gift, but of course, I had to read it to make sure it was a good book. I loved the story and cover. It was a soul touching story about a man that found the grandfather he had never known. The miracle of the whole situation was uplifting. I love small, beautiful coffee table books and this is now on MY coffee table, along with three others I had purchased to give as gifts. I just couldn't part with it. It moved me. If you love stories about miracles at Christmas, you need to purchase this book.
Comfort and Joy.......2004-02-26
Entertaining, comforting and joyous. Leaves the reader feeling good.
Read With A Kleenex Handy.......2003-11-15
Max Lucado's THE CHRISTMAS CHILD is a retelling of an earlier work, THE CHRISTMAS CROSS which is now out of print. The new edition is illustrated with photographs from a movie version of the work
If we look at what works and does not work in fiction, THE CHRISTMAS CHILD should not work. It is sappy, sentimental, and predictable. One of these characteristic in a book meant for an adult can work, two of these characteristics would be a maybe at best; all three would be fatal flaws for a book. Yet this work has all three characteristics and all three work together rather well. When a person reads this story about redemption and forgiveness, it is easy to be moved to tears. Lucado has a gift at touching the heart through his writing, and in doing so teaches the essential message of Christianity. The author of this little volume understands the miracle of the Christmas story, but knows that human nature has been weekend by sin, an ever present reality even at Christmas, and that the true miracle of Christmas is the redemption offered through the child born in a manger. Lucado demonstrates this through two very human people: a Chicago journalist who has been having marital problems and a church maintenance worker who has known great tragedy through mistakes he has caused.
Some could call THE CHRISTMAS CHILD a CRIPPLED LAMB or JACOB'S GIFT (two Lucado books intended for children) for adults. To put this work in the same category as THE CRIPPLED LAMB and JACOB'S GIFT is a compliment. All three works move the heart and retell the wonderful story of Christmas and how the Christmas message applies to our lives all through the year.

Average Christmas romance.......2006-12-04
From the back cover:

And my review:
Well, the back cover description doesn't really give much information about the stories in this collection, so I'll included a brief synopsis along with my own personal thoughts:
The first story in this anthology was Helen Bianchin's A CHRISTMAS MARRIAGE ULTIMATUM. Basically, several years ago, the hero and heroine had a torrid month-long affair which came to an abrupt end when another woman claimed to also be his lover. Heartbroken, the heroine ran away only to later discover that she was pregnant. Now the hero and heroine meet again, and the hero discovers that he has a son that he never knew about...and he plans to do anything he can to claim him.
I didn't have high hopes for this story, as this author seems to always create characters that annoy me. I didn't really like the heroine, as she was often childish. I also found it hard to empathize with her, since I didn't think she had the right to keep the child's existence a secret from the hero, nor to decide to deprive her son of a father. But the hero was annoying, too. He was an alpha male who constantly expected to snap his fingers and have the world fall in line for him. Ugh. The was such a chest thumping neanderthal (all of Bianchin's heros follow the same formula) that I wanted to shove him into a manure pile. Throw in the requisite childish bickering and stupid misunderstandings, and you have a story that isn't worth finishing. One star.
Next in this collection was Rebecca Winter's A PRINCE FOR CHRISTMAS. The heroine's blind niece (who's recently lost her parents in a boating accident) has won a contest to meet the princess of Frijia (a fictional country). However, the princess has been put on bed rest to await the birth of her first child, so she sends her twin brother, the prince, instead. Of course the heroine (the child's aunt) and the prince end up falling in love.
I expected to like this one, as I've enjoyed stories by Rebecca Winter's before. I had to get past the whole "modern-day prince" thing, since I prefer "ordinary people" romances to one about people who's lives are so different from mine that I couldn't possibly relate to them. However, the way the hero was holding the little girl (she was adorable) and constantly kissing her, even though they'd just met, came across as creepy, rather than endearing. Maybe I just watch too many crime shows, but would you let a strange man pull your niece onto his lap and start constantly kissing her on the cheek? It just turned me off so much that I couldn't finish the story. Two stars.
The last story was Lucy Gordon's THE MILLIONAIRE'S CHRISTMAS WISH. A man is on the brink of divorce because his workaholic ways have torn his family apart. Though his wife still loves him, she is tired of taking second place to his career. Circumstances force him to play Santa, and he is shocked when neither of his children recognize him behind the Santa get-up. It brings home to him the fact that he has been an absentee father for much of his children's lives. Over the Christmas holiday, he rediscovers the things that really matter, and in the process, recaptures his wife's heart.
This story was my favorite of the collection. I really liked watching the hero go from career-obsessed man (he worked so hard to provide for his family) to a family-first man. However, the characters felt a little flat, and the emotions in this story were barely touched upon, rather than deeply explored. It may have been the fault of the page restriction, but I was left feeling a little unsatisfied after the story was over. Three stars, as this isn't a story I'd bother to read again.
Romance anthologies are always a hit-or-miss deal. The last story was enjoyable, but not one I'd recommend highly. If you can borrow this one from the library, then go for it. Otherwise, save your money for something better. See my list "Christmas romance books worth buying" for a list of my keepers and re-reads.

Paperback by Edgar Adams, Minor wear, Never used
Book Description
The Kentucky rifle has become a famous part of the history of American development, and here is the story of its own development. The people of the isolated mountain valleys of Appalachia tell how they make and use the Kentucky and related firearms and the supplies that go with them, both in the past and today as tradition continues.
Customer Reviews:
A Must for students of Southern long rifles.......2001-03-14
For students of the Southern mountain rifle as well as Appalachian lore, this book is a must. What is so amazing is how these plain, but entirely serviceable rifles were made under such primitive conditions. The chapter on cross bows and how they were made gives the reader an idea of the extreme poverty that these folk lived in. I also found the chapter on Hacker Martin, a 20th century maker of these guns to be entertaining and informative. Being a collector and muzzleloading shooter, I certainly appreciated what John R. Irwin has done with the subject

Fun book!.......2005-09-27
If you have a bored teenager on your hands, this is the book to get. Some supplies from the craft store, and you're ready to unleash your creativity and wear it to school...
Nice books for ideas.......2000-12-01
This a nice simple book on how to start decorating your T-shirts. The instructions are simple but I would have had the sample pictures near the instructions instead of at the end. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it for beginners, it inspires you to give is a go.
Big on Ideas! Basic Techniques........1999-08-03
Interested in designing your own T-shirts but can't decide between techniques? This is a fun book --providing basic techniques for tie-dye, marbling, batik, stamping, and more. The illustrations are wonderful and inspiring. The instructions are really simple. Within days of purchasing this book I was dyeing and painting a handful of hand-me-down baby clothes. Serious fun!
Book Description
What do Citibank, the Wall Street Journal, and the Donald Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts have in common? They all have used the universal principles of feng shui, the traditional Chinese discipline of spatial energies, to improve their environments and enhance their businesses. In the past few years, feng shui has crossed cultures to become an effective tool for the nation's top architects and designers—and their clients.
Feng Shui: A Practical Guide for Architects and Designers by Vincent M. Smith with Barbara Lyons Stewart is the very first book geared specifically to the architectural and design disciplines. This useful guide equips architects and designers with the tools to create well-designed, comfortable environments that enhance clients’ lives.
The authors present a history of feng shui, explain its fundamental principles of balance and energy flow, emphasize how these principles are applicable to any architectural style or setting, and connect the theory of feng shui to environmental psychology. Design professionals learn how feng shui practice can help guide the selection of sites, building layout, materials, finishes, landscaping, graphics, lighting, and color. The''ll also find clear plans for a wide range of projects, including residential, commercial, corporate, health care, and hospitality.
Highlights:
Why feng shui can be used to increase productivity and reduce stress How to use feng shui for selecting residential or commercial building sites How to avoid or correct mistakes in space planning and design How to apply feng shui principles to a wide variety of projects
Customer Reviews:
Interesting and well done.......2006-08-31
Without trying to make the reader an expert at Feng Shui this book clearly explains important principles of good design from placement of doors to colors and placement of art. A fascinating read at a basic level, it does not delving into the complexities of Feng Shui but make the basic ideas easy to understand and apply. The book includes an interesting section on how furniture placement creates effective doorways and passageways in the room and makes the house more inviting or hinders access. The authors examine various applications including residential and office environments. Feng Shui: A Practical Guide for Architects and Designers is easily one of the most approachable and immediately usable books on Feng Shui that I have read and one of the few that I can actually call an enjoyable read.
Not to be missed.......2006-06-22
Feng Shui expert Vincent M. Smith works with architect Barbara Lyons Stewart to produce the first book written for design pros interested in practical applications of Feng Shui. Here are basic principles tailored not for the new age consumer but for the practicing architect who wants to build them and hard-wire them into structures. From learning which designs reduce stress and increase productivity to using feng shui concepts for selecting initial building sites for homes or businesses, FENG SHUI: A PRACTICAL GUIDE FOR ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNERS is not to be missed.
