Really Tasty!.......2007-07-13

I have tried two recipes from this book and will be trying more soon. What I really love is that these recipes are not too flashy-they don't have a million ingredients and are pretty quick to put together. For a July 4th party, I made the "Kitchen Quarterback Salsa and Bean Dip" and the "Diet Mountain Dew Salad" simultaneously while my six month old was screaming at me. I think that says a LOT about the simplicity/ease of preparation that these recipes entail.

The best part is that some of my guests were the type to gripe about low-fat/diet food and they RAVED about these dishes and asked me for the book info. That says a lot about the taste factor.

I would highly recommend this book for people that want quick diet food that actually TASTES good.

Best "usable" cookbook for the noncooker.......2002-09-29

I bought this cookbook for my mother to use (father is diabetic and had heart bypass surgery). It has so many great recipes and lets you know what to do in order to make it have less sodium, etc. It has red meat recipes (he can't eat that) but we just substitute fish, chicken, or turkey. It uses ingredients she actually had in the kitchen and would use again (not just for one recipe). I made the "No fat fried chicken" (a baked recipe to taste like fried) and my dad said it was the best chicken he has ever had. These recipes will dress up the same few meats so that one doesn't get tired of the same thing and give up on a new way of life. The recipes are so, so, easy. My mother hates to cook and loves this book.

A great source of everyday recipes for the diabetic. Recipes are easy to follow, simple to prepare, and surprisingly good. Each recipe includes exchange and nutritional information. I've tried three diabetic cookbooks and I find this is the only one I actually use. The rest of my family even enjoys it.

Susan O'Brien has had an interest in natural foods and nutrition. She has used this interest to aid her in her own dietary needs. She had worked as a gourmet cook, cooking instructor, baker and as a consultant for food management, as well as medical education.

Each recipe is labelled as to what the recipe is free of, such as no dairy, no eggs, and no nuts, as well as being sugar-free and gluten-free. The recipes are easy-to-follow and are delicious.

This cookbook, also, does not have photographs or illustrations. There is a chapter on how to substitute sugar and wheat flour for other products, in an effort to increase creativity and independence. There is, also, a resource guide to help you find those hard-to-find ingredients.

Some of the delicious recipes you can find in this book are: Potato Scones, Blackberry Cobbler, Prosciutto and Veggies, Quinoa and Tofu, Chai Tea and Meatballs.

When I was diagnosed with gluten, wheat and egg allergies, I wasn't sure how I would survive. Initally, it was on rice, vegtables, and lean meats. Now, thanks to this cookbook, I can cook wonderful easy meals for myself and my guests. No one knows it's gluten and sugar free, because it all tastes so good.

I'm also a dermatologist and have begun recommending this cookbook to my acne, eczema and psoriasis patients with fantastic results. We don't even bother with the formal allergy testing. The patients try the diet for 3 wks, many of them are so much better, they are convinced to continue.

I L O V E this book. I'm 1 of 4 members of a gourmet diabetic cooking club and every week we meet taking turns trying new recipes. Most of the recipes I've used come from this book because (1) every recipe has a picture (important to me) (2) the recipes are gourmet in nature, and (3) so far, all the recipes have gotten great reviews from the members of my group. This book is sumptuous. The artist's work is so spectacular that it is intimidating. However, she makes clear that she has had her share of false starts, which is comforting. I also appreciated her comments on her art, which turn out to be, in addition, comments on life. This is not a "how-to-do-reproduce-my-quilt" book, but there is a good deal of useful technical information. I have over 130 books on quilting and related topics and I think this is number one on my favorite parade.

Description:
Personalized ventilation is expected to improve the quality of inhaled air and accommodate individual thermal preferences. In this paper, a chair-based personalized ventilation system is proposed that can potentially be applied in theatres, cinemas, lecture halls, aircrafts, and even offices. Air quality, thermal comfort, and the human response to this ventilation method were investigated by experiments. By comparing eight different air terminal devices (ATDs) it was found that up to 80% of the inhaled air could be composed of fresh personalized air with a supply flow rate of less than 3.0l/s. Perceived air quality improved greatly by serving cool air directly to the breathing zone. Feelings of irritation and local drafts could be eliminated by proper designs. Personalized air with a temperature below that of room air was able to bring ''a cool head'' and increased thermal comfort in comparison with mixing ventilation. Massive applications of this chair-based personalized ventilation system can be envisaged in the future.
