This book identifies and examines training techniques for the kitchen. Designed specifically for the therapist or health care professional, techniques demonstrated should be utilized by health care professionals to teach those with physical disabilities or the elderly how to understand and perform tasks in the kitchen successfully. Some issues addressed in the book include kitchen planning, meal planning, nutrition, safety, stress, and more. Materials are provided to help with kitchen and home planning. The book looks at how to deal with clients in their homes, working with children, hospice, and dealing with individuals with physical and cognitive limitations and elderly from a health care professional's perspective.

Meal Preparation and Training: The Health Care Professional's Guide is divided into several sections. Part I assesses the situation - the types of patients as well as the caregivers and family - then focuses on specific disabilities and problems including a client with arthritis, chronic pain, etc. Part II is involved with the kitchen and the home, from safety and modifications to transporting items. Part III focuses on equipment, appliances, nutrition, shopping, and includes a guide to teaching recipes. Part IV provides help for the health care professional and caregivers with extensive support materials. These include funding, agencies and organizations, sources for equipment and materials, general references, and forms and plans for making equipment. The forms and plans may be photocopied, enlarged if desired, and are designed for use with clients.

Not only was I attracted to this book because I grew up in the 60's, but because I also sell vintage costume jewelry on my web site, Atlanta Vintage Jewelry.

Roseann Ettinger's book contains a lot of pictures that were nostalgic to me. It features deco jewelry, punk, novelty and bi-centennial pieces, plus mod and Avon jewelry popular when I was in school, and a whole lot more, including themes like 'Back to Nature'.

This book is not only great for vintage jewelry collectors or people who deal in jewelry, like myself, but also as a great reminder of when we were teens. I love it.

Great Resource for ANY Seamstress.......2007-02-17

I do more sewing and tailoring of regular clothes than costumes (which is a hobby). And I use this reference all the time. For example, when taking measurements or doing fittings for family and friends, I pull this out. It actually helped me to understand patterns better, and my tailoring skills have increased dramatically.

I also found it useful when finishing our basement and creating my dream sewing space.

I'm also using it for my research for a class on fabrics and fibers.

I recommend this book as a great resource for anyone making clothes.

Great reference.......2006-03-05

I am a free-lance costumer that travels around the country a lot for my work. This is the one book that travels with me as a basic reference for whatever the directors might throw at me. Most of the information is presented on a basic level (ie pattern blocks are for slopers, not finished garments), but a book would have to be the size of an encyclopedia to include detailed information on how to construct everything and would still miss something. This book gives you enough information to get you started and you can figure out the rest.

I am a former student of Rosemary Ingham's, now graduated and working as the Costume Shop Supervisor for Signature Theatre in Arlington, Va. I use her book almost everyday. Her instructions for sewing, altering, and patterning are easy to understand, clear, and concise. Plus there are great visuals to go along with the words by her writing partner Liz Covey. I can't wait until the next edition is complete. This best thing about it is that you don't have to be a professional costumer to use this book. A must for all sewers.

I am a student costumer and I hav had nothing but good experiences with teh Costume Technician's Handbook. I finally learned to draft my own patterns from this book - a skill no teacher has ever been able to drive into my skull. This is an absolute necessity

This book is wonderful. I got the book when I was in school and it has been in my tool box ever since. I recently had the pleasure of working with Rosemary and found her working style to be as informative and educational as her book. It has helped me with many projects, both professional and personal, and should be in every costume technician's library.

Music, Prayer and Art.......2003-02-08

At one time this book was packaged with a CD of monastic chant to provide some context for the singing. However, the book deserves to be read on its own as a rich exploration of the spiritual possibilities of time itself and of the eight hours of monastic prayer. Originally timed by the sun, the hours begin before dawn and follow at two to three hour intervals until the last light vanishes at dusk. Steindl-Rast is a well known Benedictine writer who mingles spiritual insight with vignettes that show how the hours punctuate and illuminate the daily rhythm of monastic life - prayer, reading, work. He illustrates each hour with one of the "angel musicians by Fra Angelico, from the Tabernacle of the Linaioli, Museo di San Marco, Florence, Italy." In the photos one can see bits of the neighboring figures. I tried to put them in sequence as I thought they would appear in the original. I was so intrigued by this puzzle that I sought out a picture of the whole group in an art history book. The angels are actually on the outer rim of the Tabernacle frame and would be unseen when the Tabernacle was closed. They are like a silent music box in which the music only emerges when the lid is raised - an angel choir silently hymning the glories of Christ as present in his sacraments. I was disappointed to discover that the angels are not in any kind of sequence corresponding to the hours. So how did Steindl-Rast come up with the idea of the comparison? However he did it, it worked beautifully. Worth both reading and rereading.

A Solid Read, But Not Perfect.......2005-07-04

"The Attitude of Silence" was a decent Andromeda tie-in novel, and certainly much better than the travesty that was the previous one ("Through The Looking Glass"). "The Attitude of Silence" was better researched, had a story that fit well into the timeline (it seems to take place between the late Season One episodes "It Makes A Lovely Light" and "Its Hour Has Come `Round At Last"), and the characterisation for the most part was pretty solid. This isn't to say that there weren't a few problems-Trance's looking at probabilities was a little too mathematical, Rev Bem did little besides pray a lot, and Mariotte didn't differentiate enough between the personalities of Rommie and the Andromeda AI and hologram. While the research was there for the most part, Mariotte seems to have overlooked the fact that Vedrans are blue and have four legs, and are decidedly not human, and that Sani Nax Rifati was a Vedran who lived some 5800 years previous (yes, this is a fairly important plot point). There are a few other nitpicks that distracted (which the editor should have caught), but none of them were glaring beyond the Vedran one. Overall, "The Attitude of Silence" was a pretty solid read that captured the spirit of the show, even though it may not be quite the love-letter to the show and its fans that "Waystation" was.

It drives me crazy all the time, and maybe that is why I hurt myself-because I am unable to fight the battle against not winning the argument, and it leaves me numb and cold as stone inside. Until I hear or see you, I am all right and all those impulses vanish from my thoughts. I find no reason to hurt myself whenever you are near me. I hear your voice or see your face, and I am elated because on the other side of the line, you are feeling the same.
