Congratulations, you're expecting a baby! What you may not be expecting is all of the requisite gear you "need" to look after your dear bundle. Fear not. Denise and Alan Fields, authors of Bridal Bargains, are here to tell you what's super and what's silly, and how to find it at the best price. You'll learn all about how (and where) to shop for a crib and dresser (including how to get European styling at reasonable prices), what you need in bedding and what can be skipped (a hint: no baby requires the $200 quilt!), which clothing brands are safest and least expensive, and how to shop for monitors, toys, car seats, strollers, books, videos, and more. The authors have field-tested every major brand (and several of the minor ones), and they provide star ratings and annotations at the end of every chapter. A helpful feature in each chapter called "Wastes of Money" will steer you away from $35 Baby Air Jordans and frilly diaper stackers that match your bedding. If that's not enough, they offer a money-back guarantee: If the book doesn't save you at least $250 in baby expenses, they'll refund the price of the book. Well researched and written in a witty and comfortable tone, Baby Bargains should be required reading for every safety- and money-conscious parent-to-be. --Rebecca A. Staffel
Customer Reviews:
Must have for expecting parents.......2007-10-10
This is a great guide for parents and soon to be parents, or anyone looking to find the best deals and best products for baby. My wife and I were very surprised at some of the reviews and information in this book and have found is very helpful in not only getting good deals, but making sure we have the safest product. More often than not the most expensive is not the best one (strollers and baby monitors were especially helpful).
We both highly recommend this book.
Great book for first time parents.......2007-10-06
This is a great book for first time parents! I was clueless on what to get for our first baby, and this book was a lifesaver. I even took it with me to register, so that I could refrence it.
Great book.......2007-10-06
Having a baby is stressful enough without the shopping experience, when it is time to buy is the whole experience is overwhelming, everybody has an opinion, the baby store gives you a big list of items which you might not need but they want you to buy, it is even worst if you are having your first baby, this books answer these questions: what to buy? when to buy? how much money should I spend? totally worth it.
Great Book.......2007-10-05
This is a great book and really helped us as first time parents figure out what we did and did not need. It is a must have!
Don't leave home without it!.......2007-10-03
I received this book as a baby gift before my child was born. We took it with us to register as well as when we'd go to the store on our own. It was an excellent resource. Also it really helped because my husband wanted to get used or hand me down items to save on money, but this book really tells you what you need to buy new, so that helped settle that disagreement for us! Our baby is now 4 1/2 months old and I still reference this book from time to time. I had it with us when we were in the store picking out a crib and a couple was having a hard time deciding on a mattress, so I showed them the book and she thought it was a great book as well. Excellent buy!

Great Info book!.......2006-01-13
Get this one. It shows and tells what a novice needs to learn about antique furniture. Also...a great refresher for long-time antiquers.
Good Reference.......2002-01-29
This book is good for a quick reference. It is filled with sketches that are grouped into categories (chairs, tables, beds).
It can help you identify the style of a piece of furntiture, but doesn't help authenticating the piece.
Hundreds of detailed drawings!.......2000-04-13
Excellent and easy to use reference book, illustrates styles in thier purest form. Does not treat the subject of authenticity but notes characteristics and idiosyncracies of various examples.

Customer Reviews:
2007 edition available as an eBook.......2007-05-08
I haven't had time to read through it yet. But the Baby Bargains book was pretty helpful (though too dependent on the anecdote in some cases). I'm hoping this will be similar.
I downloaded the 2007 edition from the Baby Bargains website since the print version offered at Amazon is 3 years out of date. The eBook is in PDF format and readable by any computer with a recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. It's also cheaper than the paperback.
On the plus side you can do immediate text searches within the book and you could print out just the relevant info for your shopping trips. On the negative side, you won't have a copy to casually flip through. Everytime, you'll need to boot up your computer or PDA (or PSP running a homebrew PDF reader).
This sure ain't no bargain.......2006-05-29
I hated the baby bargains book but this one is WORSE. My pediatrician gave it a hands down and his only comment was "a few authors trying to make a buck."
They obviously have no research in this book because they recommend products that are not even age appropriate. These authors have little credibility in my eyes and according to other reviewers, it seems the same. I was never a bargain shopper, really, I mean who is unless you have to be! But, if I was, I don't see this book as a bargain.
Love all of these books.......2006-04-02
I started with Baby Bargins and moved on to this one, I love it...as a new mom it saves me so much time and money.
Good resource.......2006-03-08
While we did not use this book as much as we did the Baby version, it still had some good information. The companion website is also invaluable.
Great book to have if you want to be knowledgeable about paractical toddler products.......2005-08-09
A great book to have if you want to be smart about what to buy, when there are so many baby products out there. Please note that this is for toddlers aged 2-5. If you have a younger child, it's better to buy a "Baby Bargains" book. Great info on various brands and ratings of both domestic and imported baby gear and apparel, including clothing, shoes, strollers, etc. Some of the information is not necessarily about saving money, as the authors also review posh items, but they also give you great tips on when to buy discounted stuff and get brand name things for less. Overall, a useful book.

Customer Reviews:
good book.......2003-11-23
This book has lots of pictures, black and white as well as color. All pictures are crisp and clear, and there are some drawings sprinkled in to get certain specific details. It covers European, English and New World styles and it definitely has a lot in it. It has dates as well as information of how the style would have looked in say the 1750s, then how it may have been changed slightly in the 1800s, and then how it was changed again in say the 1850s. They tried to do a price guide (which I ignore) in the back but thankfully they only put in a few pages of that (prices are out dated before the books get to print). Overall, a neat refernce that has some good history (e.g. wash basins were first introduced in the 1740s when hygene became more of a priority) The only thing I wish the book had was more discussion of reproductions since we see more and more of that all the time.
Concise and clear field guide - lots of good practical info.......2002-01-22
An excellent guide. This is a very well organized book containing style guides, some recommendations as to recognizing woods, finishes, and lots more. The bulk of the book contains a straight-forward guide to furniture organized according to type, origin, and age. There are plenty of very good illustrations, including a middle section in colour. Definately a book that is handy to bring along when you are antique hunting. The only slight criticism is that it seems to be very English/US based, i.e. would have liked to have seen more material on e.g. Italian and French items (although this is broadly covered in the 'European' section).
Very good........1999-10-22
Very good book for those in the field. Illustrations and explanations make it easier to understand the decorative arts.

Customer Reviews:
well worth it..........2004-11-10
Artsy black & white pics show London street scenes in the first (small) section. Then the large sections of excellent color photography illustrate a variety of interiors, then decorating details.
Most of the space is given to the pictorial, as befits a book on how things look; what little trilingual (English-French-German) text exists is poetically descriptive.
Styles represented tend toward the spare and eclectic - we're not talking about conspicuous consumption or Martha wannabes here - probably "urban bohemian" is the general trend. Architectural details are proudly and blatantly incorporated into the overall scheme of things... It's a work well worth inclusion in your library
Excellent showcase of London interiors.......2002-01-18
This book is an excellent viewbook if you want to get a taste of contemporary London interiors. It has very modern, a bit more classic and very simple interiors as well. There is very little text in the book, but the photos are all full page and very well made, high quality. A fun book to flip through and get inspiration from!
