The best of the best. Mary knows her stuff. This book is all inclusive. A must for the serious collector of Candlewick.

Wetzel's "Candlewick-The Jewel of Imperial".......2000-04-13
This book lists Candlewick items by number. If you are looking for identification help, this is not the place to be. No pictures, and no help on sizes relating to the titles of the pieces. Some confusing titles; ie., "trays" and "relish" are headings for relish trays. I have had little success in finding an item for which I didn't know the name, as in any number of plates! And I have a covered butter, and I can't find any help with what it is worth because the book doesn't describe what I have. I'd like a description including size!

Definately one to keep.......2007-05-09
This book has many wonderful images and lots of inspiration for your home. The only thing you might want to know is that the ideas are best for those who own their own condo or a small house. Renters might be inspired by this book but probably wouldn't be able to implement most of the ideas.
Small Spaces for Modern Living.......2007-03-19
I found the book very inspiring. The pictures in this book were meant as examples to push and inspire your imagine instead of taking a cookie cutter approach. The book also provides principles and strategies on how to implement your own ideas. However, the pictures provide primarily a modern and contemporary perspective for those of you who are die heart country chic or traditional.
Great Book with Good Ideas.......2007-01-29
We recently bought a new condo and found this book helpful in planning how to organize and arrange our new condo. Living in a big city we've always been strapped for space and the time needed to organize. I think Atkins does a good job giving advice on how to purge and ideas on how to maximize space. My only compliant about design guides (either this book or magazines) is that they tend to show spaces that rarely resembles the cookie-cutter condo look that you often buy into.
Small Spaces, major possibilities!.......2007-01-24
This book is fantastic! Unlike a lot of books on the market, it will really help you develop YOUR OWN space to suit YOUR OWN wants, needs, and taste.
The first few sections are devoted to helping you really examine your own living situation: What are your basic needs for your space? What are your not-so-basic needs and wants that will make your space suitable to you? Now, what have you got to work with? How is the space defined? What are your limitations on changing it? And, how would you like it to look? Atkins asks very clear cut questions that will help you evaluate what you and your home are capable of.
The next few sections are on basic design principles that work in any area. Use of color, lighting - both natural and artificial, furniture, and your own home's architectural features (doors, walls, windows) are explored.
Finally, every room in the home is given it's own chapter. Every nook and cranny is scrutinized for maximum use of space. From layout to furniture to walls and floors, there is helpful advice on EVERYTHING. Large, colorful photos and examples abound; and there are even case studies that show a room and explain why and how it works.
There are a few things about this book that I think put it above others in the same category. First, it really does help you evaluate what YOU are capable of in your own space. Second, there are helpful hints in the sidebars on nearly every page, which can be quickly referenced time and time again. And third, it covers areas that are often overlooked by other design books, such as hallways, stairs, and the occasional terrace.
For someone who can only afford a new coat of paint to those about to take on a major renovation, anyone can and will find some useful advice in Small Spaces for Modern Living.
A comprehensive look at designing for small spaces.......2005-01-23
Over the years I've collected quite a few books on designing for small spaces. What I really like about this title is that it combines the best features from the wide array of books available on this subject matter. It doesn't just present you with intriguing ideas and cool photographs; it also provides important design concepts, so you truly understand the design solutions presented. The book starts with assessing and planning your space, then discusses a variety of applicable design styles (rather than just the often-sterile, minimalist/modern look so many books feature!), room-by-room ideas, and options for special circumstances (such as an attic or galleried space). The book is also laid out very well and is a joy to read and reread. My only complaint is that I wish there were photos of every idea mentioned!

Book Description
As real estate costs go ever higher, many of us are living in smaller spaces than we would like. In Small Spaces, interiors author Rebecca Tanqueray presents a wide variety of solutions to make even a studio apartment feel more spacious and comfortable. Many spaces can be expanded visually through color or lighting, in others, Tanqueray explores the organization of space, storage and the use of multi-functional furniture. The inspirational spaces showcased in Small Spaces are documented thoroughly with beautiful photographs and floor plans, to inspire you in the process of enlarging your own space.
Starting with Making the Most of your Space, Rebecca shows how clever use of color, lighting or other elements makes for a coherent home with a feeling of space. The Zones explores the organization of space, including areas for living, cooking and eating, working, bathing and sleeping. A Space Savers page at the end of each section captures key points. Finally, Solutions, tackles the elements to the compact home - including dividing space, using color, lighting and texture and clever storage and furniture.
Small Spaces will help you create a more uncluttered and serene home that works.

Worth keeping!.......2007-06-01
What I like best about this book is how it shows you to organize your space in ways that deflect from feeling claustrophobic. All the rooms are tasteful and comfortable, and show you that you don't need a lot of expensive "stuff" to have a fantastic small space.
More like living with a lot of stuff in a small space. .......2006-02-15
Read the title really careful and you will see that it is not about living simply in a small space, but more like living with a lot of stuff in a small space.
Since I was seriously looking for a book on Zen or Danish, Swedish simple design in a small space I wanted to check the book out. Thankfully for what I was looking for there were enough examples like The Zones chapter where Zen simplicity examples abound.
Same for the chapter titled Solutions where toward the end of the chapter some nice examples are shown and written about.
Also like page 137 onward where the author lists dozens of resources on where to get more information on examples shown in the photographs.
Less is More.......2006-01-01
One of the best interior design books I enjoy over and over again is Smallspaces. Photograhs are good and interiors are very inspirational and interesting. This book shows you how you get most of your space even its small. After you have read this book you might wonder do i need bigger apartment (if you're dreaming about it) at all?
Inspiring book w/great photos & ideas.......2005-05-04
For all us wannabe designers, this book is inspiring and educational. The photos really give you an idea of how all aspects of a space work together. I especially liked the author's emphasis on storage solutions, which anyone on any budget can take advantage of (though this book tends to focus on apartments that were designed from scratch). As with most of these books, it's mostly apartments that are analyzed, but the book does include a rowhouse that is decorated in a (shock!) tradition style instead of contemporary, which I found refreshing. Not the kind of book you'll read cover to cover, but one you'll pick up and find something new each time.
#4 out of 7 "small decor" books ranked.......2005-02-14
I ranked this 4th best of 7 "decorating small spaces" books I bought. One unit featured in it had enough useable ideas for me
that it justified its price. Pros: great photos & blueprints; variety of sizes (300-1,000 sq ft) & tastes shown. Cons: European-NY exclusivity (more on this in my NOTE in review of "Small Apartments"); many featured homes shriek "interior designer," i.e., all about aesthetics rather than liveability (pebble floors, molded plastic chairs, etc.). Speaking of impractical: one of the 8 featured homes is a modernist London dwelling, 11-and-a-half ft. wide, seven stories high, with one room per floor. She should have decorated the owner's elevator, as that must be where he spends all his time.
Book Description
Here is much-needed information on how to use space efficiently in studio apartments and in every room of the full-size home. State-of-the-art kitchen equipmaent and storage solutions, ingenious space-saving ideas, and tips on using color, pattern, texture, and concealed and mirrored elements help make small spaces biggeron a sensible budget.

Could definitely be better!.......2007-05-09
Although there are a few pictures of homes I like, overall I would say there is too much going on in the small spaces featured in this book. The lighting, color and organization schemes of the rooms could use some constructive criticism. Not a total loss but there are definitely better DIY interior decorating books out there.
A worthwhile investment!.......2002-04-12
Although this book is small, it delivers a lot of punch! It's a great starting point when determining what is possible when you have major space restrictions. I appreciated the variety of styles and situations represented.
Jam packed with big ideas...........2002-02-17
Lately, I've been reading books on the topic of MAKING THE MOST OF SMALL SPACES, and Anoop Parikh's book is the best book on this topic I've seen so far. Different books will appeal to different people, but if you're female, with a studio apartment or small condo as your primary residence--or--own a vacation condo or keep an apartment in the city as a second residence, I think this book will give you many good ideas. Those who own condos and can make architectural changes will probably benefit the most.
The exquisite examples Parikh provides take advantage of color, light and texture, the three most important elements to consider when creating your home in a small space. Color can be used to brighten dark spaces and produce the illusion of depth or openness or warmth. Properly placed lighting ensures that arrangements that involve stacking (plenty of examples in this book) and/or low ceilings do produce black holes. Texture can be used to move the eye around what could be a dull room if it is painted a light or white color.
Parikh says before you begin to decorate, you should consider what you will be doing in your home. Do you eat out more than you eat in? If so, it makes no sense to have regular sized appliances that take up needed space. Maybe what you need is a closet kitchen with a small refrigerator, sink, microwave and hot plate. Parikh suggests one think about 1) whether or not you want your room open or cozy; 2) what you might use as a focal point (a piece of furniture, a screen?); 3) using the walls for storage and/or display; 4) hiding the bed; 5) keeping the cooking and eating areas close together to avoid accidents. This is a great book with an excellent price.
I've lived (and still do) in small spaces..........2001-11-27
I bought this book while living in Boston more than 6 years ago. While still a student and eventually a young professional, I found myself experimenting with SPACE and BUDGET year after year (sometimes several times a year). This book is the perfect gift/buy for anyone who's lived in subhuman conditions ranging from 200-750 square feet. There are many books out there that claim to solve all your SMALL SPACE problems but everything they show include homes with well over 750 square feet (not too small in some cities)!
Anoop Parikh clearly shows you the basics and has TEXT that you actually want to read! The pictures are great although some show the fanciest of facilities and furniture ($$$ most certainly helps make small spaces nicer), but they give you a very good DESIGN sense & HOW TO information for very small lofts and studio apartments. The side bar notes are great short cuts if you haven't the patience to read everything. They outline all the basic rules to opening up your humble abode.
This book has given me MANY ideas I still stick with today. I've lent this book out to siblings, future homeowners and friends from all walks of life and income brackets. They always return it with a "Cool book, got some good ideas from it" type of comment.
I still whip it out today and use it to refresh my memory every time I move into another NEW small space. From a Boston studio in the Back Bay to a Santa Monica bungalow this book has followed me cross country and back and now sits on my shelves in my new 700 square foot home in New York.
This book lives up to its name in Making the Most of Small Spaces. How else has it survived this long in a market so flooded with nice coffee books with no content?!
A good start.......2000-10-26
While definitely not my favorite, this book has taken it's place among my collection succesfully. The cover, although extremely ugly, should not sway you. This is a nice book for amateurs, in fact it was one of my first.
