I love it!.......2007-05-17
The book is well organized making it easy to find what you're looking for. It has lots of great pictures of the finished dishes, and the instructions are easy to follow. This has become one of my favorite cookbooks.
horrible, highly processed dishes.......2007-05-09
I should have known that there is catch in preparing dishes with only four ingredients--use highly processed canned goods. Yuck!!! I've prepared five dishes and all of them were inedible. My kids would not touch them. All the dishes smell like they came out of a truly horrible, hole in the wall diner. The dishes are quick and easy but gourmet???? There is nothing sophisticated about these dishes.
If you like preparing dishes in a flash and you like the taste of canned goods, then this is the cookbook for you. If you want a little more sophistication in your meals, you need to use fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs, etc. If you like food that taste like it has been sitting at a diner for a week, then this cookbook is excellent. Do your heart and body and palate a favor and stay away from this cookbook.
Excellent.......2007-01-10
This is a book for everyone. On those nights when you really don't want to cook, this cookbook comes to the rescue. Yummy meals in a flash, and easy, too!
4 Ingredient Cookbook.......2006-07-16
I love it ! Now that there are just the two of us at home, this makes meals so much easier. I always seem to have the right ingredients on hand when I go to do these recipes. Makes me wonder what took me so long to buy this book.
Wanna be a quickie gourmet cook?!.......2006-04-24
I've had this cookbook for four years, and it's amazing. I've learned to make so many quick and yet delicious things with this cookbook, it's a staple in my house! I recently let a family member borrow it and she didn't want to give it back, so now I'm buying one for her! The dessert section is especially great for quickie desserts...this family member used it to make a lot of little desserts for a baby shower! If you could just have one cookbook, this should definitely be it!

This has been a great help for my grandson, a student with little time and money.
Great cookbook.......2003-10-03
In "The Ultimate Cooking with 4 Ingredients" author Jean Coates treats the reader to a plethora of simple, yet tasty, recipes. This is a particularly great cookbook for those with little cooking experience or for someone who wants to put together a balanced, healthy, home cooked meal without a lot of fuss. The instructions for preparation of each dish could not be easier. If you are used to the books with three or four paragraphs of preparation instructions you will be pleasantly surprised to find that these recipes can all be completed with only three to four simple steps.
I tried a few recipes and found that among my favorites were Potatoes Supreme, Hawaiian Pork, and Cola Chicken. Based on the ingredients list the Cola Chicken sounded so unlikely to taste good that I just had to try it and it turned out great. I also liked the way that Coates broke down the main dishes into the categories of chicken, beef, pork, and seafood instead of lumping them all together under the "Main Dishes" category like most cookbooks do.
The recipes often take advantage of mixes like a box cake mix or stuffing mix in order to keep the ingredients list down to four. But for the new cook or one who does not have a lot of time or want a lot of fuss making dinner it meets all the important requirements - quick and easy to prepare, goof-proof, minimal cleanup, and tasty. This is a highly recommended read and especially so for the novice cook or the hurried family cook or the college bound student.

Best Cookbook Out.......2005-05-31
My wife has thousands of recipe books, given to her as gifts over the holidays. She loves to cook, but gets tired of spending all day preparing or purchasing a very expensive spice that we'll only use for one meal. This book throws all of that out the door. With a busy lifestyle and a modest budget, this book can be the answer to all of your problems. Each recipe takes about 30 minutes to make and like the book says, only takes 4 ingredients. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Great as a present to college students or those people who want good food with less hassle.

Delicious, easy recipes.......2006-04-11
Tandouri chicken, pork chops in cherry sauce... so many tasty and simple recipes that there will be something to delight everyone's palate. A friend bought this book and I just had to have one myself. One of the books I turn to again and again when I want to try something different that won't take me all day to fix.
I'm a "low vision" cook, and I think if you know anyone who is blind or visually impaired, they will not have any trouble preparing recipes from this book.

This cookbook saved our marriage!.......2006-05-21
After 16 years of maritial blitz I have not learned to cook a decent meal. My husband has bought me dozens of cookbooks as gifts and I resent everyone of them ( I am working on this issue)! I bought this cookbook after seeing it at my friend's home. It is worth twice the price I paid for it! There are dozens of recipes that even I can't ruin and I can almost guarantee my family a home cooked meal that isn't frozen pizza.
So good, and so simple!.......2005-07-28
We were given this cookbook as a wedding gift, and I'm so glad it was given to us. The recipes in it are very simple and I always get compliments on them. I don't think anything in the book takes longer than 30 minutes to make, and nothing uses overly exotic ingredients that you'll never use again. I get requests for recipes from this cookbook all the time. It is definitely a must have!
QUICK + EASY = DELICIOUS.......2005-06-16
I have had this cookbook for years and it has become the only one I really use. I brought in a dish to work that I had made from this cookbook. Everyone loved it and asked for the recipe (cherry dump cake). I brought in the cookbook and passed it around. That same day 5 co-workers ordered the book because they were so impressed with it. Every recipe is easy with minimal ingredients that you are likely to have in your cupboard already.

Customer Reviews:
One Of The Best Collectable Reference Guides Available.......2000-06-09
A "Must Have" for any serious Higgins collector. There is an almost overwhelming amount of information presented in a most organized manner. So many wonderful color photographs that I went into sensory overload. Loads of great, historical information and imagery. The only down side of the book is that the price guide is not representative of current market values but if looked at properly will still give you a good idea of how one pattern will relate to another in value. I wish other collectable genres had reference guides of this caliber.
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS.......1999-06-26
This is truly a masterpiece of editing. The author has truly done an outstanding job. This is a MUST book for any serious Higgins collector as well as anyone who enjoys beautiful glass. The author is certainly to be commended for this one of a kind work.
A book as beautiful as the glass.......1999-04-25
If you want to collect Higgins glass, this book is an absolute must-have. The prices are outdated; with the recent death of Michael Higgins, I have seen pieces sell for double or triple the book's values. This is much more than a price guide, though. This book details the history of Higgins glass, their techniques, and how to identify what is and is not Higgins glass. There are several beautiful color pictures on almost every page, and I enjoy looking at them almost as much as I enjoy looking at the pieces in my collection.
wonderful pictures, fascinating story.......1998-06-20
this book starts to do justice to the wonderful inventive genius of michael and francis higgins, craftsmen and artistis, and the developers of advanced fused glass techniques. The book is steep at $60, but it's worth it for the great number of color plates. . . and if you know higgins glass, you'll know that a great many photographs were needed!
the only downside might be that the authors focussed too much on the dearborn years of mass-produced fused glass goods. This neglects somewhat the great variety and depth of studio work done by the higgins. But perhaps this is an apt subject for "adventures in glass, volume II".

Fine Introductory Book.......2005-01-01
All of the books by Ms Bassman are consistently well done. The layout and photography by Gene Balzer is excellent. If you are seeking a resource filled with beautiful photographs, this is one (along with Ms Bassman's companion publication re: Navajo jewelry) to add to your library. The only "flaw", if it is such, I could find with the two books was a very limited introduction and text (three pages). A+ for photos -- and C- for text/history. You'll enjoy this book!
Book Description
“Breathtaking photographs provide a rare glimpse into the living spaces of interior designers. The expected beautiful photos but also a good dose of each designer’s philosophy and decorating hints.”—Los Angeles Times. “A virtual compendium of ideas on creating style. There’s a great deal about color, organization, storage solutions and managing details.”—Baltimore Sun.

A nice overview of the homes of top women interior designers.......2002-08-25
VICTORIA magazine's "Designers in Residence" is a nice overview of the homes of top women interior designers who are based everywhere from several big American cities to Belgium and France and everywhere in between. It's always fascinating to see how interior designers decorate their own homes, instead of those they do for their clients. You get the sense that while their homes represent sanctuary for them--as home rightly should--they also use their homes as design labs, testing this or that fabric or paint finish or furniture placement to see how it might work elsewhere.
The names are ones design mavens will recognize: Sheila Bridges, Rachel Ashwell, Theodora van Runkle (who also did the costumes for several movies, including "Bonnie & Clyde" in 1967), Isabelle de Borchgrave, Charlotte Moss, and more. There is solid, if sometimes unsurprising, information here on aging fabrics, using different decorative and trompe-l'oeil paint techniques, placing pictures on the wall, and so on. The layout of the book is attractive and uncluttered, the focus being solidly on the interiors--as it should be. This would be a nice little addition to the library of any design or interiors fan.
skip this one - buy "designing women" instead.......2001-08-28
okay, i admit it, i am a design book junkie. this book, however, definitely does not do justice to the designers or their homes. in fact, the photos are adequate, not nearly on the same level of sophistication of "designing women" by russell - which is a terrific book on some really terrific interior designers. "designers in residence" mirrors the editorial content of the magazine which produced it - "victoria" - of which i am not a fan. if you want an inside tour of some very talented designers - buy "designing women" instead.
Designers in Residence.......2001-07-04
This book is a great tool for introducing featured designers. It should be send out to their potential clients with their resumes. However, as a design book it lacks on every front. I do not recommend it as book on desing, or even design styles.
Well worth the purchase price.......2001-04-18
A very enjoyable read. I enjoyed being invited into the private homes of designers whose work I've read/seen to see how they live. I found their designs interesting and pleasing. I'd like to see a follow-up volume with other designers, such as Joe Ruggiero, Kevin McCloud, Christopher Lowell, etc.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful Book with Lovely Photos.......2007-07-22
This is another lovely book by Victoria. It's filled with page after page of beautiful photographs in a range of styles including shabby-chic, vintage flea market, traditional, Victorian, country, European and my favorite, decorating with whites & creams. This is not a how-to book, but a wonderful one to enjoy with a cup of tea, curled up on your favorite chair. You will not find contemporary design in this book. Although I am not partial to bright colors, every designer showcased in this book has a lovely home with warmth and inviting comfort. I would have given this book a 5 star rating if all of the designs were in a soft dreamy color palette. For those of you who enjoy the same, there are 5 designers and plenty of pages filled with lovely photographs, including the queen of shabby chic, Rachel Ashwell.
Victoria Magazine's book on various Designer's Homes.......2007-06-14
When "Victoria Magazine" first came out in the very early 1990's (or late 1980s) , it was the first of it's kind. I just loved it, and subscribed to it until it stopped being marketed. (By the way, this was before magazines such as ROMANTIC HOMES became popular in the late 1990's).
If you are familiar with the typical format of VICTORIA MAGAZINE, then you can envision what this book is like.
The photos are of the highest quality, just like in the magazine.
The format is the same as the magazine, in that there are many WONDERFUL photos, but note that this is NOT a decorating "how-to" book.
I would categorize this book as a lovely coffee table book. A feast for the eyes, especially if you love romantic homes.
However, if you are drawn to the more typical "modern" homes, or the bright colors of the current retro homes, then this book is not for you.
As I said, this book is for those that like "romantic style" homes of the 1990's & early 2000's, (with the more muted colors).
