Good book, but doesn't have information about non-toxic restoration products. Healthy repair products are a serious concern. You can find the non-toxic products at www.antqrx.com or call (515) 832-2437.

Conservation and Restoration of Ceramics (Conservation & Museology)
ASIN: 1873936184 |
Book Description
This book is the first to bring together in one comprehensive volume a wide range of key topics in glass and ceramics conservation. Scientific research in deterioration mechanisms and in the methods and materials of conservation processes are dealt with extensively by 20 authors, each internationally respected in their subject. The training available for glass and ceramics conservation is covered in contributions by five course directors at colleges in the USA and Europe.
The book is designed for conservators, curators, conservation scientists, and ceramics and glass technologists.
Paul Perrot, formerly Director of The Corning Museum of Glass, writes in his Introduction to the book: ‘Ceramics and, later, glass are among the most fundamental substances in humanity’s technological and social development. They, and especially ceramics, testify to a sense of continuity in the needs of the human condition and of its higher aims and achievements. As such the conservation of ceramics and glass deserves the thorough probing reflected in these pages.’
Published with the support of ICN, The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage.

Customer Reviews:
shadow boxes and shrines shines.......2007-01-05
This book offers the viewer many options in making shadow boxes and shrines. Materials suggested are affordable materials and easily found for all. A must for the novice and the advanced as well. I liked this book because it was inspiring and informative. Photographs are beautiful and clearly depict the meaning of the subject. Excellent!
True inspiration - Great jumping off from scrapbooking!.......2005-04-19
I admit it, I bought this book as a whim. But I have always been fascinated with shadow boxes and shrines.
Holy cow! Was I in for a shock! There is so much more to it than I had ever imagined! Cano-Murillo shows such a myriad of shadow boxes and shrines that I had no idea was possible. It really opened the door to my imagination and got my juices flowing. I made a box about my memories of the NJ shore growing up, and one about my desire for a Chinese adoption. I'm now planning one to celebrate my 3 year old daughter.
This book has it all - enchanting shadow boxes that look like something from old England, bright exciting Mardi Gras style boxes, Hispanic style boxes, boxes made from toy cars, boxes made from cough drop cases, you name it - if it's a small hollowed out vessel, it can become a shrine of your hopes and memories. Cano-Murillo will help you develop your creativity and delve into your memories to create a shrine that reflects who you are.
A truly excellent book, with, I'll say it again, inspiring writing and words of wisdom, I truly feel this is an excellent book well worth investing in. Highest recommendation.
mmmm...it's ok.......2004-06-16
I am a fan of Kathy's and I have to be honest and say that I am much more impressed with her website and "La Casa Loca" than I am with this book.
BEAUTIFUL AND FASCINATING.......2004-05-17
After getting La Casa Loca as a gift I just had to go and get all the other books by Kathy Cano-Murillo. I've always been into collage art but never thought of making them diminsional like this book shows. There are so many rich and gorgeous pictures and so many beautiful ideas that I don't know where to start. Aside from the colorful and inspirational projects, my favorite part of the book is Kathy's opening letter, it literally made me cry. So sweet. This book will make you feel good inside and out.
Kathy is my hero!.......2003-08-23
Regarding the "mean reviews" - clearly these folks don't know ANYTHING about Latino folk art, or the art of assemblage greats like Joseph Cornell! Mixed media and assemblage are very popular artistic outlets right now and Kathy's book does a great job of covering several different styles - from classic "collections" style assemblages to Day of the Dead shrines and wacky/kitschy pieces.
The book is very well written and the photos are gorgeous. If you are looking for traditional arts and crafts shadow box type art work, you are better off getting idea sheets from the craft store. However, if you are a mixed media artist looking for imaginative inspiration, Kathy delivers!
Book Description
To live on an island is to live a life apart. Author Linda Leigh Paul’s Island Living captures the most charming island homes, including homes on the East Coast’s Barrier Islands, the Northwest’s San Juan and Gulf Islands, the Pacific’s Hawaiian Islands, and the Great Lakes’ Apostle Islands, among other homes on privately owned or low-density islands.
The island home reflects its owner’s reason for escape, whether it’s a person who turns to island living to feel more of this world, or the person who wishes to remove himself from the mainstream. Regardless, the island homeowner is individualistic and creative, and every space in Island Living speaks of a space that is its owner’s dream come to life, be it simplicity or utter luxury.
With more than 150 images and written in the transporting and distinctive tone that Paul’s readers have come to expect, Island Living is a book of fantasy―the home that is both refuge and wish embodied.

a waste of time.......2007-03-11
these are not luxurious oceanfront homes. they are ALL ugly
plain homes that give no decorating ideas (maybe to my grandma)
if you are looking for spectacular, check out Florida Design magazine.
An architect Island Resident.......2006-04-22
Very nice layout and graphics and selection of relatively modest but well thought out homes.
25 Homes in Beautiful Settings.......2006-03-05
When I thought of living on an island, my first thought was the tropics. Somewhere down in the Caribbean or perhaps the South Pacific. Here houses would be open to the wind, here it would be necessary to produce your own electricity, your own water supply and so on.
Instead in this book, most of the houses are on islands just off the coast of the US. And as part of the sub-title, there are some that he considers to be Shoreside Havens rather than actually on an island. Further many of these houses are quite far north, off the coast of Maine perhaps or in the area around foggy, rainy Seattle. Here you don't want a wide open house, but one that can be warm and cozy while presenting a view of the storm tossed water.
Here are some twenty-five spectacular homes. These are not the huge mansions often seen in such books, but homes that are only slightly above the mainstream. Here are homes that are made to fit into a site and to reflect the love that the owners have for that site.
