      I actually borrowed this book from the library and thought it was just excellent. i would love to own it but alas it is out of print so I will have to scan the used book stores etc. Galentines, pates & pies etc. do take time and effort and this book shows the detail of how to do it. I am from europe (England) and now resident in the USA and really miss the pies, pates and galantines which are seen in the deli's so the next best thing is to get this book, experiment and make your own, it is well worth the effort, not only in taste, but to see the delight of friends who cut into it, their smiles of pleasure at seeing the treasure within. This book is a Chef's delight....top marks.

      This book is very helpful for professional cooks/chefs.It goes into great detail,which is needed for the professional Garde Manger. It starts with the basic stock making to the finished aspics jellies.It also covers dough making for the Pate en Croute, along with various force meats. The recipes are accurate and easy to understand. Some ingredients may be dificult to find. This is because many of the recipes are very old and the product was more avalible then. For the professional this can be a very helpful guide, and has many great recipes for you to use. I highly recommend it.

                    How can this author put so much into a book. She begins with easier piecing and takes the mystery out of putting tiny pieces together. She goes beyond this by showing the best value of color to make the quilt dance and sparkle. This is an amazing book, one that every quilter should have in their library. She solves problems, causes you to want to make tiny quilts in many many colors for every room in the house.

                      I checked this out from a public library years ago and then had a hard time locating it to purchase for myself. I love the book, pictures and full-size templates. The quilt color schemes are bright and yet traditional. Wonderful quilt ideas to give as gifts---as most are not full bed size.

                      I have reeally enjoyed using this book. It has several patterns that I have made. Some of the patterns are hearts, trees, flowers, Christmas patterns, friendship wreath, and Irish Christmas. The small quilts can be used for all types of thing. A great buy.

                      There's a beautiful quilt, "Geese in the Garden" where you sew strips onto a triangle muslin base and then add squares later on to make stars. I've never seen this technique before and it really makes sense to me now. There are 15 projects in all. I was impressed with how these patterns differ from most other scrap quilt books I've seen. And "Geese in the Garden" is one of the most beautiful patterns I've run across in a very long time.

                      I love this book and browse through it often. The quilts are beautiful and inspiring. I haven't made any of the quilts yet, but plan to make a couple from it including the one pictured on the back. This one features a pineapple looking pattern with light and dark stars.

                      The book is good for newbies and experienced quilters.

                      As a quilter I do have a lots of bits and pieces of different kinds of fabric. It is a wonderful idea to put them all together in a totally funny quilts. You can really use even the smallest bit from your "left over" box. I do enjoy the book and wish you to have same good time with it.

                      This is a wonderful book for putting scraps to good use. There are good tips for sorting, storing and organizing them plus helpful information on which ones are compatible in a quilt. I was drawn to the cover picture of the Crossed Tracks quilt and that will be my first one to sew from this book. All patterns are template free and rotary cut however be aware that about half of the patterns are cut at 45 or 60 degree angles and will be more of a challenge.

                        This book has fabulous project directions for babies. I found it easy to understand and not only does it give directions for baby quilts it has other projects as well--pillows, carrying bags, etc. I would recommend this book to everybody.

                        3 out of 5 stars Worth flipping through, once, but just a little too sweet.......2005-01-09

                        I'm glad I took this book out of the library before buying it. On the plus side, it offers suggestions for gifts beyond the straightforward baby quilt; for instance, one quilt design also has instructions for making matching baby bibs, and another has a matching stuffed animal to accompany the quilt. That's quite charming. However, the designs are just a little too "sweet" for my taste.

                        More importantly, the book isn't quite sure whether it's for beginners or for more advanced quilters. It devotes 35 pages to basics, but the project recipes are surprisingly sparse. For instance, the instructions say to make 6.5" square blocks, but never tell you "you'll need 2 yards of Fabric 1, 3 yards of Fabric 2."

                        I did get some good ideas from this book. However, to make a baby quilt for my nephew's first child, I'm going to turn elsewhere for guidance.

                          Whether you're a beginner or an experienced textile artist, Valerie Hearder has something for you in this book. A variety of techniques are explored for creating small landscapes including applique, fusing, stamping, and hand and machine embroidery. Very helpful book. My quilt guild used it for a landscape workshop with great results.

                          This is a great book with a lot of variety and easy to follow directions. It is the first time I tried paper piecing, and I am hooked. I am a tough grader and I give it a four star. Looking forward to her next book. Only a few patterns are paper pieced. From sailboats & lighthouses to blue jays and cardinals to stars & log cabins there is something for everyone. My first quilt looked like it took me a long time when it went very fast.
