A fine book, but not for novices.......2000-07-03
This book is mainly a (large) collection of omelette recipes. I was hoping it would go into detail about exactly how to make an omelette, what kind of equipment to use. But it only has 2 pages that briefly touch on how to make one.
Bottom line is, if you're still trying to learn how to make the perfect omelette, look elsewhere.

Quite a few errors, but very extensive.......2004-06-15
This is an extremely extensive cookbook that would be great if it did not contains so many errors. It is frustrating to be sent to a page for a recipe and you are not sure if it is the right recipe. The book continuously references an almond cookie dough in the basic recipes, but there is no dough in the beginning that uses almond!!!. There are other examples of this. There are a few cases where translations were not done, and places where ingredients were not converted, but these are minor problems. There there are places where the amounts of the ingrediants were screwed up. Still very extensive with great ideas for recipes. If there is only one dessert cookbook, this could possibly be it, but I do really like Pierre Herme's recipes.
i luv desserts!.......2001-09-19
from pinenut nougat to raspberry bavarois from mont blanc to tiramisu or crepe soufflé this brings me closer to being a diabetic every day. i've never ever ever seen some many desserts explained so well. my friends luv me now! great great great fun book.
great easy recipes !.......2001-09-19
I've never seen so many recipes for traditional and innovative desserts. Wonderful photographs accompany almost every dessert. The decoration section and its techniques are very easy to understand, and made easy to follow. I am a fan of Andrea Jourdan, and was happy to see that it is one of her numerous translations. It's on my kitchen counter.

This book is just right for the beginner. It gives a bit of history,a price range on some pieces and some lovely pictures but not many identifying marks. It looks lovely on your table, but if your looking for identifying marks, and dating your dresden this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I love it!.......2002-03-05
This is a great book, beautiful patterns, every skill level. It's definitely one of those books, where you sit down and flip through and say, "Oh I want to make that...and that....ooh, and that!"
Somthing for everyone and every skill........1997-08-22
This book is a must have for the casual as well as the expert crocheter. It contains beautifully laid out illustrations as well as easy to follow directions. The projects fit into the "something for everyone" category ranging from simple little things to more time consuming projects. It's great when you've forgotten a birthday or need that special something for a Christmas gift
A guide to not abusing your copy of this book :).......1997-06-04
Creative Crochet was the first of all my prized collection of crochet books that I dutifully dragged with me to class all through my last two years of college. Creative Crochet is a joy to work from, The patterns are well laid-out in line-by-line instructions with great color photos so you can see the finished project before you dedicate hours to the craft. Their diagrams are also useful for constructing some of the more complex designs. I've made several very satisfactory presents from projects in this book, but best of all, it fits right in my knapsack with my notebooks and my crochet hooks so I won't be bored in class

Customer Reviews:
For advanced crocheters?.......2005-11-27
I consider myself an advanced beginner and found many of the projects in this book daunting. Case in point: There is an afghan featured that is made of thread crochet. It looks absolutely gorgeous, but it seems like it would take twelve crocheters eons to make the thing. Many of the projects are beautiful but impossible to make, or simple and totally ridiculous. For example, there are patterns to make stuffed fruit. You know, the kind that you put in a bowl. For me, having *plastic* fruit in a bowl is ridiculous enough, but crocheted fruit takes the cake. But then, that is just my humble opinion. Perhaps there are people out there who love to display fake fruit in wonderous bowls to entice their guests.
I gave this book four stars because there are many redeeming features: This book does have many patterns to choose from, and I grudgingly admit that several of them are extrodinarily cute. Like the sunflower sweaters.
Also, this book has many afghan patterns. There's an entire section on afghans with nine patterns, however, afghans are also sprinkled throughout the rest of the book as well. In all the sections combined, I counted 18 afghans/throws. (The rainbow swirls afghan is another ridiculous afghan. They gear it towards kids with the rainbows and bright colors, and they put a picture of the aghan in a child's room, but there are so many free hanging loops on the swirls that any kid would get their fingers, hands, or toes caught in those things.) To me, one of the afghans especially stood out. I am making the Popcorn Ripple right now and it is turning out gorgeous. I tend to dislike ripple patterns but this one turned out wonderfully. I think that pattern alone counterbalanced all the ridiculous patterns in the book.
So in summary, I think this book is worth having because the good patterns are spectacular. You just have to overlook the garishly bad patterns and fear that one day, the crocheted fruit might look tempting.
I have made 2 or 3 projects from this book..........2003-12-06
There are projects for the home and wearables. You will find projects for beginners and more advanced crocheters. I made the sweatshirt with crochet inserts and it came out great! I ended up making 2 more for my sisters.
You will find quite a few fun projects in this book.
Clear instructions. Well constructed........2003-09-05
I am finishing my first project from this book: The cover sweater...Child's sunflower sweater in the medium size. It has gone very smoothly with exceptional results. I have followed some patterns that just don't work out right, but this one has been perfect.
My other small daughter wants one too, so I will be starting my second one in a soft fuzzy three ply yarn in pastels. I am not an expert crocheter. I think I'm more of an advanced beginner. but if you are a beginner, do not hesitate to try one of these patterns.
As for what else is inside this book, here are the different chapter headings:
Wrapped up in afghans 9 patterns
All through the house 8 patterns
***patterns for living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom
Gifts for all 8 patterns
***included is an exquisite pattern for pink tipped carnations and a great crocheted basket that you can fill with what-nots for the holidays.
Just for fun 7 patterns
***tiny teddies, 3 wonderful old-fashioned round dishcloths
Rock-a-bye collection 9 patterns
***baby afghans, layette, wrap, sandals, cover-up
Fashion corner 6 patterns
***SUNFLOWER SWEATER, EVENING BAGS, CARDIGANS, A RIBBED GLOVE PATTERN WHICH I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO TRYING, TEXTURED CARDIGAN AND A HANDSOME MEN'S CARDIGAN--WHICH REALLY SURPRISED ME!
Hooked on holidays 10 patterns
***7 different main holidays included here, I'm looking forward to trying the sachets and the Thanksgiving cornicopia fruit.
There is also a Basic Instruction guide to the stitches used in these patterns. So far I haven't seen any difficult stitches used in any of the patterns. I think the most difficult is the triple treble front post...but there is a clear pictoral explanation of that in the back.
I hope you enjoy your crochet experiences as much as I am from this book. The patterns must have been extensively tested before publication...and each one has a color picture of the finished product, which really helps! This book is a keeper!
Some very cute and nice projects.......2002-11-16
I am new to crocheting, but I love this book. I haven't tried any of the projects yet, but I found several that I definitely want to make soon! These projects do not look anything like the typical crochet of the 1970's. They are updated and beautiful! It has some gorgeous afghans; very cute kitchen projects (rugs/potholders); gift ideas ; a pretty baby layette set, lamp shade cover, tissue box cover, baby sandals, and blankets; sweaters; even projects for several different holidays!
Good book with one thing missing........2002-09-16
I like crochet books with patterns that gives the skill levels, which is helpful for beginners like me and I didn't see one.

Huge variety in here.......2005-12-06
something for everyone and most every ocassion in here. I have made several projects out of this one and have not found any mistakes. One of the great things about the patterns are they really are timeless.
Buy it for variety and whimsical projects only.......2003-01-12
I am very pleased with my purchase of this book but I did not buy it for the afghans, doilies or clothing as I have many patterns for these things. The book is of course outdated to some degree as it should be for an older publication but there are some really adorable designs in here. I especially liked the halloween projects like the witch and pumpkins and there is a gorgeous "Raggedy Ann" doll draft catcher that hangs on the door knob when not in use. There are also several projects using scraps of fabric strips along with the instructions on using this technique.
If you are looking for fabulous doily, afghan and clothing projects skip this book. Your best bet for clothing are the more recent publications and there are many afghan or doily books out there with a variety of gorgeous designs.
If, on the other hand, you are looking for variety, particularily something different like whimiscal designs, you will find quite a few in here.
I'm glad I bought this book.......2002-12-28
This adorable book has inspired me to make a few new things! The rabbit is very cute, there is a masculine scarf, lots of afghans and plenty of other new projects to try. This book has a good variety and is fun to browse through. I think this is a worthwhile addition to any crocheter's collection. I give 4 not 5 stars because the clothing patterns are really not useable except for the cute little girl's farm vest.
Crochet Collection.......2002-03-31
I also found this book a little out of date. I thought there was just too much "stuff" in it. I prefer doing doilys, afgans and some home decor things but this but was limited to that due to putting the silly stuff in like the rabbit (pg 111). It was not what I had expected. There was so much in the book there was no room for a variety of diffrent doilys.. you just have the 2 doily or so to choose from and then they move on. Just not my type of book.
Wonderful!!.......2001-03-16
This book is wonderful. I took up crochet about 4 months ago and have already made several of these projects. There are several afghans, (my favorite is the victorian elegance), lampshades, doilies, pot holders, bath rugs and other bath ensembles, kitchen essentials, a beautiful 4th of July afghan (which you can see on the cover) and the instructions are written for even the beginning crocheter. A must have for one's crochet library.

I really love these books for their variety, I want to make everything I see in these Leisure Arts books. I would recommend them to anyone, especially if you want to get addicted to crochet books.
This book is a delightful assortment of patterns........1999-05-30
In Love With Crochet edited by Anne Childs contains the usual assortment of afghans, includin grannies, mile-a-minute, lacy, quick, one piece, baby and embroidered. There is also a nicely done baby section that has a christening gown and a hooded towel. You can find novelties done in both thread, yarn and fabric strips.Check out the clown faces, pink pig and tic-tac-toe game. The fashion corner brings you hats, sweaters and a baby bikini. A few holiday patterns like a scarecrow doll and a turkey round out the patterns. But, what gives this book it's charm is the inclusion of a delightful set of birthday fairies! Made with small amounts of yarn and crocheted from head to toe, you'll create all 12 darlings in no time. I have one dangling in front of me! There are projects for all levels of skill here.
