Customer Reviews:
Okay, but not exactly what I was looking for.......2007-07-13
My objective was simple-fast, small amount of common ingredients, appealing meal ideas.
This book called for some strange ingredients, some of the recipes looked tedious, and I really just wasn't very attracted to any of the meal ideas in here. Not the type of food I am going to be able to get husband to eat either, so I wound up sending it back.
I have had great success so far with a few other books:
Diabetic Low-Fat & No Fat Meals in Minutes
The Busy People Series of cookbooks.
The best cookbook to own.......2007-03-08
This is the most used cookbook in my house. It features simple to find and use ingredients and all recipes are quick and tasty, not to mention quite healthy. I have given this book out as gifts to two others already and they both have given it similar reviews.

Excellent Healthy Cookbook.......2004-12-06
I have about 12 lowfat cookbooks in my collection. This cookbook and volume 1 in the series are my favorites because the recipies taste great and they are very easy to make. You will love this cookbook!
My favorite cookbook.......2003-12-23
This is the cookbook I depend on. I am a Lifetime member of Weight Watchers, and I used this book (and the other Quick and Healthy) when I was losing weight, and still use it all the time now that I am maintaining. There is enough nutritional information to calculate points. The ingredients are all readily available in our small town. You don't spend all afternoon in the kitchen. Everybody likes the result! I can't say enough good things about these books.

Customer Reviews:
The perfect compromise between economy, convenience, health, and flavor.......2007-04-21
This is an outstanding example of a cookbook that accomplishes its stated purpose. These are excellent recipes which produce very agreeable and enjoyable dishes with a minimum of fuss. With each new recipe I keep thinking, "Well, THIS one isn't going to turn out be as good as the others
have...", but everything keeps coming together and turning out great. Working out of this book, I've had a 100% success rate - out of a dozen tries, I've turned out a dozen dishes I'd want to make again...and roommates, girlfriends and guests have all been quite pleased, so it's not just me.
Another argument in favor of this cookbook is that it is very reasonably priced. Collectors of high priced chef-oriented volumes (Thomas Keller, Daniel Bourdain, or even Tyler, Giada and their Food Network peers) will find it somewhat plain and lacking in presentation (it's nicely put together, but without a lot of fancy production or food photography)...but if you are just looking for a lot of "bang" for your cookbook dollar, this one delivers.
Two caveats - as a previous reviewer mentioned, although these recipes aren't especially exotic, neither are they oriented toward children who are picky eaters. In other words, some of the fancier dishes are not going to fly with the "mac'n'cheese and pizza" crowd. This is definitely adult oriented fare for the most part. And on the other hand, this isn't the fare you would cook to impress a first date - it's excellent stuff, but not especially exotic or impressive looking. That's why I called it a "compromise" in the review title. Save these recipes for friends, family and loved ones who just want something good on the table.
Although it isn't formatted to reach the single/couple cooking demographic, I still have come to prefer "Jeanne Jones' Healthy Cooking" over my previous favorite in that category, "Healthy Cooking For Two (or Just You) by Francine Price. Even though Price's book is nicely designed and has a brilliant format, this book simply has better recipes - each book takes a lot of "shortcuts" that simplify meal prep, but Jones' approach is both more meticulous and also more worth the effort. (And the leftovers are invariably devoured for lunch the next day.)
Not a "Family" Cookbook.......2004-05-14
This book was not at all what I expected. I was looking for fast and healthy meals to put in front of my family every night; and with the title being "...For People Who Don't Have Time To Cook", I assumed it was geared towards busy families. Unfortunately, the majority of the recipes are not kid-friendly. Dishes like Cider-Poached Salmon with Spiced Pear Sauce, Grilled Swordfish on Herbed Couscous with Vegetable Minestrone, and Middle Eastern Lamb Stew are not likely to please my brood. I sent this book back. 2 stars because the presentation of the book is nice, and I'm sure someone looking for fancy dishes like these would enjoy it.
More than you could ever want in a cookbook!.......2003-05-14
I never dreamt I'd see the day when I, of all non-cooking people, would say these words but wow, what a terrific cookbook Jeanne Jones' HEALTHY COOKING is! And you may be asking yourself "if she's a non-cooking person how would she know this is a great cookbook?" Well, I'll tell you. Because cooking is my father's absolute favorite hobby, I've been handed down many a cookbook from him with his hopes that maybe, just maybe, one of them might spark the hidden cook in me. But until HEALTHY COOKING I've never picked up a cookbook and looked at it more than once before placing it on the shelf to collect dust (let alone actually cook something out of it).
So anyway, back to why this book is wonderful. In addition to the obvious perks of the recipes being healthy and fast (the fast part making cooking relatively painless for those of us who don't wish to be in the kitchen any longer than absolutely necessary) the beginning of the book gives great advice on topics such as setting up your kitchen, purchasing poultry, storing food, and much more; the margins of the recipe pages are chock full of tips; but my absolute favorite is the "Spin Off" section at the bottom of each recipe which provides useful ideas for what to do with those pesky leftovers (invaluable information for those of us cooking for only one or two people). What more could you ask for in a cookbook? A sincere thank you to Jeanne Jones for creating such a tremendous cookbook as it's accomplished a feat none other, neither book nor human, could. You got a non-cook cooking!
My favorite cookbook!.......2001-05-14
This cookbook was the first one I ever bought...and it remains my favorite, even after getting married and amassing a very large cookbook collection. What I love about the book is that all of the recipes are very easy to prepare, yet taste as good as or better than most high-fat recipes. I am a registered nurse, so I am very careful to cook healthful food at home. There are recipes for everything from breakfast and brunch dishes to lunch dinner, dessert, and holiday menus. The Herbed Lemon Chicken is one of our favorite company dishes. This week I am making the following recipes from the cookbook: Tortilla Soup, Lemon-Tarragon Chicken on Cannellini beans, Shrimp Fettuccine, Beef Spaghetti Pie Ole, and Fat Free Fudge Brownies. A lot of the dishes can be prepared ahead of time, so it's a great book for entertaining or preparing holiday meals, as well. Enjoy!
This is one of the most useful cookbooks I own............2001-01-15
....and I own a lot of cookbooks! Let's face it, who WANTS to cook healthy? When you put so much time, trouble, and expense into cooking what you hope are tasty meals, it's safe to assume that anything loaded with fat and calories will be a big hit. It's not such a sure bet when you're using low-fat this, and reduced-sodium that. But when my husband's doctor ordered him to switch to a low-cholesterol diet, I had to figure something out! I started looking through my many cookbooks, and came across this one by Jeanne Jones. I have to admit, I've had it for a while, and I never had used it much before now. But once I got to really looking at it, I thought, "Hey, these sound really good....like real food!" I went through the entire book and flagged all the recipes that sounded good to me...and when I was finished, there were a LOT of flags sticking out of the book! I made three of the recipes that first week, and my husband didn't even KNOW he was eating healthy! The Baked Quesadillas and Overnight Cheese Strata were every bit as tasty as any recipe using full-fat ingredients. The Tarragon Chicken and Pasta Bake drew rave reviews, and he even took the leftovers to work the next day to nuke for lunch. There's also a great recipe for Fettucine Alfredo, which as we all know, is "Heart Attack on a Plate" in it's original form. This one used fat-free cream cheese and skim milk. Who knew they could taste so good?
The only change I make to the recipes is to add a bit of salt. Since this is technically a "healthy" cookbook, not just low-fat, the author tends to skimp on salt. Since we don't need to do that, I go ahead a add just a bit, but if you are on a low-sodium diet, then the recipes would be just right for you. Next up on the menu....Chile Rellenos Casserole! Or will it be Ham & Cheese Calzone? Hmmmm.....

Great cookbook for the low-fat cook.......2007-04-27
The cookbook is full of recipes that are truly fast. The cookbook focuses on low-fat cooking and doesn't rely on processed or convenience foods too much like other timesaver cookbooks. In our family, we do not follow a low-fat approach, so it doesn't appeal to us but to anyone who prefers a low-fat diet, you will love this cookbook.

good book.......2007-09-26
This is a good cookbook with tons of awesome ideas that don't require too many ideas. I love how it has all of the recipes separated into carb categories so it's easy to choose from the list.

Cookbook.......2007-02-16
Although the title says it "Quick & Healthy", I found out that most of the ingrediants in a lot of the recipes isn't something that the average person would have in their home. But there are some great hints for subsituting items.
The best healthy cook book ever!.......2006-02-27
I have been on a mission to turn over a new leaf and start eatting healthy. I have bought a few healthy cook books and they were hard to follow. By luck, I stumbled upon this book on Amazon.com. This is exactly what I was looking for! Simple, easy to follow recipes. Delicious and they don't seem low fat at all. I made the Wheat Pancakes for my family today and they loved them. I also made the Herb Potato Salad and it was a breeze and so yummy. I'm going to make the Cialantro & Coconut Milk Chicken tonight. I can't wait to make more.

Scott is the Bible of postage stamp apraising!.......2003-04-06
The Scott stamp catalogs are the bible of postage stamp apraising. No other publication brings together such a wealth of virtually universal stamp knowledge and pricing. While the prices that Scott uses may not especially match current market they are fairly consistant and most dealers base their prices on a flat percentage of Scott therefore making it a good reference point.
don't waste your money!!.......2002-01-17
Why spend money on a book that gives values for stamps that are 3 to 5 times higher than the stamps sell for every day of the week on E-bay? This book is a complete waste of money and has lost touch with all reality!
Book Description
Previously available only in kit form, the author's most glorious designs are now collected in this wonderful book, complete with hand-painted color charts and comprehensive instructions.
55 full-color photographs; 25 color charts.
Customer Reviews:
Lush designs...definitely not for the novice.......2001-06-18
Bradley's book is filled with beautiful tapestries, a history of needlepoint (or Berlinwork as it was orginally called) and wonderful graphs of the designs. With all of the different shades used in each project, this is definitely not for the novice. One annoyance about the book--she features photos of projects that aren't in the book! However, they are available in the kits she designs and in other books.
awesome, a joy to read.......1998-11-16
I collect medieval tapestry needlepoint and am always happy to find a book such as this. Unfortunately the copy I found was at the public library so I didn't have time to do any of the projects before I had to return the book. The projects look absolutely beautiful and the history attached to each was very interesting.
The charts in this book are a marvel in the use of color........1998-07-13
Elizabeth Bradley has written a masterpiece for the needlepointer who loves beautifully muted colors and traditional English design. As usual, Ms. Bradley begins with an informative introduction giving the history of Victorian canvaswork and then proceeds to give the reader a real feast with her adaptions of historical motifs. Among the choice offerings are The Parrot, The Spring Basket of Flowers, Barley Twists and Cornflowers, Rose and Primula Border, and Patchwork Pieces. The projects are suitable for the intermediate to advanced needlepointer. This is probably one of the premier needlepoint books in print today and should not be missed!
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful - One of My Favorite Needlepoint Books.......2005-07-30
This book is absolutely beautiful. Definately one of the best. No silly, soft pictures here only classic, elegant needlepoint. Heirlooms to last for generations. I would recommend this book to any needlepoint enthusiast, beginner or experienced. Take your time, study the charts for timeless, breathtaking pieces.
Review.......2005-06-03
I bought this book a few weeks ago after looking long and hard to find beautiful to stitch, not cheesy. I love the patterns, my only problem are the mistakes in the patterns- instead of fixing the color on the chart, there are notes in the text that indicate a certain area is supposed to be a different color than marked on the chart- causing confusion and ripped out stitches. Otherwise I love this book!
Beautiful designs, worth the troublesome charts.......2004-07-03
I'll start by saying that I LOVE Beth Russell's interpretations of Arts and Crafts designs in this book as well as her other two. She's chosen wonderful motifs and arranged them into lovely, unique needlepoint projects. I speak from experience, as I'm now working on my third project from her books, the orange border design shown on the cover of her latest volume, worked on large canvas to make a rug. I highly recommend all three books for lovers of needlepoint, other charted needlework, arts and crafts design, or William Morris.
This book is beautifully laid out and lovely to page through and read, but its loveliness is one of its downfalls: The charts are printed in often washed-out color, without utilizing symbols to indicate yarn colors. Although this choice makes the charts pleasant to look at, the subtle differences between yarn colors are sometimes very hard to see in the charts, making working from them difficult. I spent too much time squinting at the latest chart, making little pencil dots on it to differentiate between LIGHT grey green and MEDIUM-LIGHT grey green!
I'll be proud of the resulting product, and will forgive Russell's editorial choice. Do consider buying this book, but be prepared for some challenges in using it.
A must for William Morris afficionados.......2002-01-17
If you are a needleworker (or thinking of becoming one), favour the richness of tapestry and are looking for William Morris designs to reproduce, then the work of Beth Russell is exactly what you're looking for. She has adapted classic William Morris pieces for tentstitch in Appleton tapestry wools and produced easy-to-follow colour charts for cushions, chair upholstery, and rugs. I have a number of needlework books I purchased for the sake of one or two patterns I couldn't find anywhere else. With this book, I cannot decide which of all the designs to work first.
For the very experienced.......2000-10-27
The projects in this book are excellent to say the least; I have done 3 of them; they take between 400-500 hours, but are simply elegant. The designs are beautifully done by Beth Russell, and they need to be done in Appleton tapestry. I am very glad I bought this and all of her books. They were all purchased through Amazon.com since Barnes & Noble and the other large suppliers do not have them in stock.

Book Description
Sandy Isenstadt examines how architects, interior designers, and landscape designers worked to enhance spatial perception in middle class houses visually. The desire for spaciousness reached its highest pitch where it was most lacking, in the small, single-family houses that came to be the cornerstone of middle class life in the nineteenth century. In direct conflict with actual dimensions, spaciousness was linked to a tension unique to the middle class - between spatial aspirations and financial limitations. Although rarely addressed in a sustained fashion by theorists and practitioners, and the inhabitants of houses themselves, Isenstadt argues that spaciousness was central to the development of modern American domestic architecture, with explicit strategies for perceiving space being pivotal to modern house design. Through professional endorsement, concern for visual space found its way into discussion of real estate and law.

A wide-ranging survey of how visual space became entwined with cultural values........2007-03-05
College-level students of architecture, design, and social issues will find a fine study in THE MODERN AMERICAN HOUSE, which considers how home designers worked to enhance spatial perception in middle-class houses. The idea and enactment of spaciousness has been linked to financial limitations and the evolutionary structure of domestic architectural standards as a whole: chapters consider real estate, architecture, law, and economics in a wide-ranging survey of how visual space became entwined with cultural values.
