I received this book as a Christmas gift from a family member. Having twin toddlers, I guess they thought I needed the help! Their are tons of recipes in this book. Granted these recipes are not for 5 star meals, but are great when you have 30 minutes or less for a nice meal. A lot of the recipes are pretty standard....things I have made before, but there are also a lot of recipes that I wouldnt have thought of. All use ingredients that one usually has on hand in the freezer or the pantry. I would reccomend this to anyone who experiences that hairy moment at the end of the day regarding the DD (dinner dilema!).

good guidelines to protect yourself.......2005-08-07

This book can be interesting even if you have utterly no intention of buying or selling jewelry on eBay. Who would have thought when eBay started up, selling trinkets, that jewelry would rapidly form a multimillion dollar niche? Not a small niche at all.

Gordon goes into the practical details for both buyers and sellers. The book's paramount theme seems to be how to avoid getting ripped off. Unsurprising, considering the high valued nature of the items. For professional sellers, detecting fake buyers is vital to staying solvent. Whereas real buyers tend not to do this as a profession. So while a buyer might suffer a loss due to a fake seller, it's not like being put out of business.

But, if you follow her guidelines and use some common sense, you should have good chances of a successful transaction.

While it is very outdated, it is still a good book for the novice who needs to get there feet wet.
This book has all the basic tools you need to get you started in the Ebay experiance but offers nothing to help you once your passed the basics.
There are some good tips on listing your items and using HTML code ect.
So, if you are already an experianced Ebayer then this book is NOT for you, but if you are a beginer to Ebay then you'll find this book to be very benifical in getting you started.

I am very disappointed in this book. As most of the information in this book is outdated, this book should be selling on ebay as a collectors item. Much of the information that can be considered useful to the current ebay functionality is common sense. That is, the book did not reveal to me anything that a second or third time user of ebay could not have figure out.

This book was probably very good in its day, but eBay has changed so much since it was published that it really doesn't hit things straight on. It has the basics of buying and selling, and is loaded with cute anecdotes. I've had gotten better information with the updated Dummies books on the subject.

If you have never been to eBay then this book is for you. It will give you the basics of buying, selling, and searching on eBay. If you have any experience at all either buying or selling, then you probably already know the things in this book.

I was pretty disappointed in how outdated the book had become in just a short year. Ebay is always changing something, so some of the references are no longer valid.

The Official ebay Guide gave me the basics to everything about ebaying. Answered many questions that I had from the past couple of years of ebaying & now wanting to get a whole lot more. This books raised many more questions that the book could answer. However it gave me the basics and left me in search of more detailed information. So, the book is just what it listed a Guide. Now I look for the Handbook to ebay.

Waste of time and money.......2005-08-12

This book will tell you absolutely nothing you can't learn for free by reading the eBay tutorials and looking at couple of sports card message boards (beckett, sportscardsheriff, etc).

The information presented is of the most basic nature and is repeated many times, often on the same page. It became quite obvious after reading the first two chapters that the author was struggling to "pad" the page count of this book.

I am not an expert in sports collecting by any means, in fact I just started this year. However, if you just follow the advice in my first paragraph, you will have acquired the knowledge in this book many times over.

If you're still not convinced, go to your local bookstore and flip through this book, you'll see what I mean fairly quickly.

Must-have book for eBay buyers and sellers!.......2005-01-10

This is a must-have book for eBay buyers AND sellers! It provides comprehensive material written in plain English so that both the novice and expert buyer/seller on the eBay auction site can learn something new that will be worth WAY MORE than the cost of the book.

Good book for the starters........2004-11-19

Good book if you just start to use ebay, but it is not offer much to e-bay users that are already familiar with standard features in e-bay. For example if you like to know, how to use web site to add pictures to your listing or like to know, how to write HTML to make your listing more organized, this book would not help. however, I will keep this book in my liberary as a referance for a few tips that I found usefull.

Completely useless.......2002-11-05

This pamphlet (I wouldn't even call it a book) provides absolutely no useful information that you can't get from ebay itself. It might be helpful to 3rd graders, because it's written at their level, but for anyone else, don't waste your money. I decided to return it immediately upon seeing it and reading a couple of pages.

The only thing it's good for is scamming money from unsuspecting customers to profit the "authors" (and I use that term lightly).

I'd give it no stars if that was an option.

I enjoyed the book because it was straightforward. The authors did a good job condensing a lot of information from a variety of areas into easy reading. I was especially happy to find that the chapter on how to add photos to my descriptions was so easy to understand. I've been using one of the examples for completing the transaction and it has worked well for me. I have always wanted to start my own business selling antiques on Ebay and after reading this book, I have a clearer picture of what all is involved and how to get started.

Want to Post Pictures on eBay - buy THIS book!.......1999-12-10

If you're interested in getting the maximum results in the minimum amount time - this book is for you! It definitely "cuts to the chase" you don't have to weed through a lot of extraneous information. I found the area on how to Post Auction Photos to be succinct & to the point...& the best is -- it worked! So, if you're looking to post pictures on eBay (particularly from AOL - that's what I used) then this is by far the best book on the subject.

Lots of inspirational pictures by the author and other artists, but there is little description of how some of the more interesting techniques were done, like accordian board books and other binding techniques. Found it overall a little disappointing, but at least it wasn't too expensive. Also I wish there was less use of scrapbooking supplies and more use of original background techniques or art papers.

Shop till you drop.......2005-10-14

This is one of the worst books on bookbinding it has been my misfortune to purchase. It lacks detailed information on techniques and substitutes what is generally a "go out and buy" attitude. It encourages the purchase of materials such as premade scrapbooking items rather than giving ideas for an individual to make and incorporate in the creative act.

Altering books is one of the crafts that affords the integration of everyday materials in a way that is fun and INEXPENSIVE. This book should have a shopping list in the back and get it over with.

Showing examples of other artist's work is fine but if that is all there is the author could just put together a book of "other people's ideas".

There are numerous other books on altered books and journals and I would encourage anyone interested in engaging in this craft look to those instead.

A little confusing for a beginner.......2005-09-13

Overall, I think that this book has a lot of information, great photos of lots of examples. The only reason I gave it four stars was that I think it could be better organized. It jumps around a bit and does not explain how some of the books are constructed. That may be simplistic for non-beginners, but this seems to be a beginning book! I found myself enjoying the pictures of the books, but wondering how some of them were made with rings, etc. This book is actually a very good value, but I wish there had been some photos of a book in progress, instead of jumping right in to finished pages! Overall, I am glad that I bought it, even though the instuctions are pretty general.

True source of inspiration.......2005-08-28

Although the size of the book is not large, the scope is great. It is full of solid text and ideas supplemented with wonderful illustrations. It combines how-tos and inspiration in meaningful ways. A true source of ideas for anyone who pursues, or would like to pursue, these crafts. Thanks to all her contributors - there are some great creations presented.

This book is so pretty to simply look through for inspiration. The layout and color photos are absolutley beautiful. Many of the materials for the projects are inexpensive or I already have them on hand from scrap booking and card making. It is a great book to gather creative ideas from. Most of the techniques are not difficult but the results are beautiful. I thoroughly enjoy paging through the book for ideas and inspiration.

I was a complete novice at scrapbooking. I created a rather lame wedding album (IMHO), but I didn't have the money, old pictures, talent, etc to get into scrapbooking "for real". Also my first hubby had stolen a LOT of the early pics of our kids, so I had very little to work with.
I have a 1-year-old granddaughter, and she has inspired me to shoot entire rolls of film trying to capture her elusive little smile. Ah, the sweet agony! But what to do with all those pictures? Make a scrapbook! LOL So, now that I've started working on the little one's book, some of my now-grown children's missing pics suddenly re-appeared. It's a miracle!

I found this book at Michael's on the discount table, thought it looked interesting, & brought it home. More than Memories II, Beyond the Basics is rich in interesting projects. They give step-by-step, assuming no prior knowledge, recipe-like, easy to follow instructions. Stress-relieving reassurances are given throughout the review & techniques section, showing consideration for beginners. I like working in so many different mediums, sometimes all at the same time! I am happy to have found this book, and this new hobby, and I look forward to receiving the rest of the books by the same people (I ordered them yesterday!). I was also inspired to go online and look on PBS to see the TV show that the book is based on: "More Than Memories". I didn't find that show...maybe it's off the air...but I did find info for great family albums; complete with family history, her-story (oral stories women usually keep), and much, much more! And with the help of my books, I can put it all together into cool projects to keep and to give!

Beautiful PBS Book On Creatively Preserving Family History !.......2000-08-16

This new 128 page 8 1/2 x 11" fully color illustrated book takes you beyond the basics in how to save your family photos, memorabilia and histories. A very helpful book that guides you step-by-step on how to photo tinting, paper embossing, photo transferring, making greeting cards, puzzles and time capsules. Every topic is clearly described and every page contains very large, full color completed photos of each project. Each project provides the list of supplies needed and a simple step-by-step description of what to do. There are chapters on: home and family, heritage, travel and vacations, babies, holidays, sports, kids, weddings, nature and scenery, school, celebrations, memory gifts and more. Wow ! Just seeing the photos makes you want to act on the boxes of stuff you have sitting in the closet gathering dust. A truly great book that is part of the Public Television Series. Very useful.

"Memory Crafting'' also could be listed under medical books - it's a wonderful antedote for the many of us who once regularly "made stuff'' for the joy of it, and have found that spare time rare and that drive derailed. Most every page I turned, I kept saying "I have to make THAT,'' " I have to make THAT.'' How wonderful to find a book that reawakens that great feeling. I credit the author/artist for her not only assembling a wide variety of ingenious ideas (I'm starting with the "mosaic'' occasional tables), but also suggesting a list of other ways in which each of the methods used can be applied to create totally different items.

A book for every level of expertise!.......1999-11-07

I marvel at people who can look at a shoebox, a stack of postage stamps, a roll of ribbon, a glue stick and see potential. I am not one of those people and that is why Memory Crafting is such a treasure! With this book someone as craft deficient as me can create beautiful boxes, pillows, pin cushions and even music boxes with my own two hands! Judi Kauffman offers inspiring ideas on how to individualize each project, not to mention exceptionally clear instructions, which is important for a total beginner like myself. In addition to the sheer usefulness of this book (now I won't panic when my niece and nephew visit and the rental movies run out!), I'd like to mention its incredible design. Stunning photographs show us the details that lift the projects from the level of mundane craft to homemade art, and the good-sized charts and diagrams are a welcome relief for middle-aged eyes. Buy this book for your friends, for your scout troop, for your church group. I did!

Many "how-to" books for crafters are informative... but not exactly something to leave on the living room coffee table. MEMORY CRAFTING is first and foremost chockablock with interesting ideas... and clear direction on how to execute these ideas at home.

But the icing on the cake is that the book itself is beautiful. Ms. Kauffman clearly set out to make her book as much a work of art as the projects outlined in it.

You get what you pay for..........2005-09-12

After buying an old victorian we were blessed with a pink and magenta kitchen. Donned with the task of redecorating this anathema, I bought this book to help with color choices and design. The small size did not lend itself well to decorating ideas (squinting for ideas is never a good idea - my husband worries I'll mistake the oven for cabinets and we'll end up with black enamel cabinets and a cherry wood stained oven if that's possible), but it was helpful, and I do believe that you get what you pay for. This book is less expensive and therefore, less bulky...so I give it 3 stars.

nifty little idea book.......2003-07-28

This is a small book, slightly wider than pocket-sized, with a single full-page photo for each kitchen and a writeup by a British magazine editor on the facing page. I found it refreshing as it presents views from across the pond, quite different from the sprawling natural wood kitchens typically shown in American magazines. Most of these kitchens are quite compact and do not have islands, and very few can take advantage of full picture windows or features such as exposed ceiling rafters. So if you're working with a large kitchen space (say from an addition), you might not have much use for this book. What these kitchens offer is creativity in the selection and coordination of color, texture, materials, and pattern, in many different styles (contemporary, Shaker, etc), all narrated expertly by Ms. Savill. It's a neat book for browsing, and you can get a miniature lesson on decoration on most any page.
