My PREVIEW of the Bananas Book.......2007-01-30

I have only GLANCED at the book, but I believe that I'll really learn from it once I start reading it so tha I can "get rid of all of my ROTTEN BANANAS."

Outdated by 1976, let alone 2006.......2006-12-17

This book was published in 2006 but the world of self-help passed this guy by back in 1970. Too many strategies and technologies have been refined in the last 30 years for you to consider reading this text - read "Overachievement" by John Eliot or some of the latest NLP efforts instead.

But let's get back to the book, here is my synopsis of what Dan offers: believe you that can have more, visualize it, and then hustle and work hard.

He talks a lot about visualizing and nothing about how to hustle because somehow after you set a goal, opportunities will surround you if you are "open". I'm afraid that I don't find the world so magical that "thoughts attract like magnets" and "how to actually do something will take care of itself."

Dan does offer a few phrases that are helpful, but they are esconsed with stories that don't support them. And don't even get me started on the first 24 pages; even if you are a big fan of his I recommend that you start reading on page 25 or you may not have the willpower to get to the meat of the book.

I like to read books that have bullet-point summaries at the end of a chapter, but each of Dan's summaries contain phrases and points that are not mentioned or expounded in the chapter!

Don't count on much here when you've finished it.

I love this book - big motivation for big changes!.......2006-11-15

"Letting Go of Your Bananas" is a GREAT book! It helped me see clearly the things in my life and in my mind that were bringing me down. I found the strength to cut off and turn away from the negative. And it feels freeing to be the "CEO" of my own life, taking full responsibility for the good and bad. I applied these concepts to parenting, to my every day thinking patterns, to business success, to my relationships. It is just super motivating - I highly recommend this book!

Excellent book on the many varied uses of bananas in cooking as well as many different and little known facts about both bananas and plantains. This is a great book for anyone who loves bananas!

A Lovely Little Cookbook.......2000-09-08

What a nice surprise! In addition to the tasty recipes there are some amusing bits of trivia on each page that make this book very entertaining. This is a nice little gift item for any cookbook collector's shelf. Everything from Elvis' famous "P.B.& B." to the sophisticated "Ecuadorean Lamb Stew" is included in this new collection of recipes. Many of the dishes include variations of ingredients to experiment with. There are some very simple combinations that one would never think of trying like "Bacon and Banana Kabobs" with a honey-mustard marinade. I am anxious to try the "Plantain, Apple and Bacon stuffing" for Thanksgiving this year. The drink recipes are all sinfully delicious. My friends and I sipped "Banaquiris" and Coladas by the pool recently and made believe that we were vacationing somewhere tropical. The traditional breads, cakes and muffins are also included but there are updated versions that improve your Grandma's old fashioned recipes. I am always trying to sneak nutritious ingredients into my teenager's diet and there are numerous ideas in this book which should please even a picky eater like him. I enjoyed this book very much and plan to try many of the recipes.

Here it is. Everything you wanted to know about the cartoon that started the teddy bear craze 100 years ago and more. Linda's research is incredible and her writing style is very warm and personal, sort of like teddy bears. The book is also packed with illustrations in both color and black and white. I especially liked reading the history of Berryman, and how the cartoon of Roosevelt saving the bear came to be, about the two cartoons depicting the famous event 100 years ago, and about how Roosevelt did not actually spare the life of the bear tied to a tree, just refused to allow it to be shot. Any arctophile worth his or her salt should have this book in their collection! Bravo on a fine volume, Linda!

A MUST HAVE for adult teddy bear collectors.......2002-02-11

As an adult collector of teddy bears, I have read many summaries regarding the 1902 Presidential bear hunting trip and the Clifford Berryman cartoon that began America's love with the newly created "teddy bear". Almost every book for adult collectors has some version of this story in its introduction. I found Linda Mullins' The Teddy Bear Men to be a superior and detailed account of the real story. Mullins wisely included the highlights from the November 1902 accounts from The Washington Post, which clearly recounted how and why a bear ended up being tied and presented to President Theodore Roosevelt for him to shoot. Washington Post cartoonist, Clifford Berryman, then portrayed this incident in a cartoon, which may be familiar to many collectors. The cartoon bear that evolved from this initial cartoon became Berryman's artist symbol ("dingbat") and linked the teddy bear (both the Berryman cartoon and the toy versions) to President Roosevelt's political career. This book is a well researched documentation of Clifford Berryman, Theodore Roosevelt, and of the significant contribution they made to the rise of the first teddy bears. It is presented in a reader friendly manner, with a well written text, short chapters, and many photos and drawings on each page. I found this book to be both intelligent and enjoyable.

The Teddy Bear Men: Theodore Roosevelt and Clifford Berryman by Linda Mullins is a great book that I found hard to put down before reading every word and experiencing every picture. I find my joy and enthusiasm for this book overflowing into my conversations and e-mails.

The book delightfully combines teddy bears, political cartoons, and history in pictures and words. Although the intent of author Linda Mullins in writing this book was not to write a biography of either Theodore Roosevelt or Clifford Berryman, there is enough biography information included to bring their personalities and character to life and give perspective to the book. Clifford Berryman is described as "one of the most thoughtful and constructive political philosophers of his day". Berryman possessed the unusual ability to achieve "satire that never left a scar" in his political cartoons. He is best know for his political cartoons of President Teddy Roosevelt with his trade mark teddy bear in them.

President Theodore Roosevelt is described as " a boy who grew up to be the man of his dreams". The association of teddy bears and big game hunting with Theodore Roosevelt is well know. The author traces the development of Clifford Berryman's cartoon signature, the Berryman/Roosevelt Bear, and discusses the public love and acceptance of this delightful little bear and the fascinating association of teddy bears with the lives of both of these great men.

The copies of Berryman's cartoons richly enhance the experience of the book as do the teddy bear illustrations. The Teddy Bear Man: Theodore Roosevelt and Clifford Berryman by Linda Mullins is a "must have" addition to the collection of any collector of political cartoons or teddy bear lover.

Researching students will find the book a good resource for human interest to include in term papers on either Roosevelt or Berryman and related subjects.

I have been quilting for many years and have never found a book as helpful as this in choosing fabric. It can be very intimidating going into a fabric store and seeing thousands of bolts of fabric. Alex's book gives great advise on picking out a focus fabric and going from there. I would recommend this book to beginners and experienced quilters alike.

Ms. Horton has put together one of the most inspirational and attractive quilting books that I've ever seen. I was a beginning quilter and a long-time artist, and this book helped "set me free" in this medium of fabric. It's packed with diverse examples, both culturally and stylistically. The compositions transcend their more traditional counterparts with a jaw-dropping alchemy of colour, texture, design and the spirit of creation. A must for any quilter with a rogue spirit and/or an interest in personalizing the quilt art form for certain visions!

This is the way a fine artist quilts! No little squares and boxes and even steven ness allowed. This book is worth it's price by illustrating how to turn a pictoral element into a Hogarth curve. (the rooster on page 50 and the dancer on page 69.) If you are interested in bringing creativity to ethnic designs--this is the book for you. Roberta gives some timely tips on machine applique and constructing unique applique patterns that are helpful when you beginning planning your own unique quilt.

There are photographs of quilts used in a variety of settings, themes, and decors with many easy-to-duplicate design ideas. This inspiring book is great for your library or for a quilter or designer--either aspiring or professional. If you have quilts at home that you would love to display but don't have any ideas on the best way, try this book. This is a great coffee-table book as well as a reference book. This is a wonderful book to see quilts decorations room by room ... to see how quilts blends in with home decors. For those who don't like quilts in general, this book would change their minds.
