Great Family Cooking.......2000-05-16
I've used this cookbook for almost a year now and just realized that most of the recipes were low calorie, low cholesterol, etc. It's great. The meat recipes we especially like. The marinades are easy. Haven't had one that didn't hit the spot yet. Great purchase.
Still the best.......2000-04-05

Book Description
Household linens incarnate a complex tradition that spans centuries and an astounding breadth of cultures. They exist in an infinite variety of fibers and weaves and can be adorned with embroidery, lace and other exquisite refinements. Linens have occasionally become so silken, so finely damasked and so magnificently decorated that they aroused passions and often represented some of the most prized elements of interiors, rivaling works of art.
The Book of Fine Linen invites us to enter the elegant world of heirloom household fabrics, their use and manufacture, their embellishment and care. In her lively thematic treatment, Françoise de Bonneville presents countless fibers and materials as both quintessential examples of the weaver's art and unusually revealing testaments of the history of daily life.
Making extensive use of household inventories, diaries, and colorful details and anecdotes describing domestic arrangements, the author has examined centuries of textile history. She discusses the origins and symbolism of the trousseau, lovingly assembled over the course of many years by young women and their mothers and ceremoniously handed over to the young couple on their wedding day. Traditions of caring for linens, which occupied incredible amounts of women's time and expertise before the invention of the washing machine, are explored, as are methods of growing and weaving natural fibers such as cotton, linen and silk. Fabulous embroidery techniques and designs from Europe and America are also superbly illustrated and carefully explained.
A fascinating text is supplemented by a rich array of visual material drawn from archival photographs, vintage advertisements, old department store catalogues, and splendid paintings, as well as original photography commissioned especially for this volume in extraordinary textile collections, private homes, and the weaving and embroidery workshops of great contemporary manufacturers.
This sumptuously designed book, with its comprehensive glossary of technical terms, bibliography, and index, will make an exquisite and cherished gift for the bride-to-be as well as a stunning visual treat for textile collectors, decorators, and anyone interested in discovering the history of fine household fabrics, delightfully told, from the white linen cloth of ancient Egypt to the rainbow-hued coverlets of today.

The History of Linen Unfolds.......2005-04-26
Linen was once an elegant showing of a family's wealth. This book is filled with the history of linen. It is throughly documented with detailed indices. Translated from French, the details provided and pictures are glorious. Turning the pages is a true historical lesson in how linen was created, embellished, and used during times past. The use of lace and embroidery is stunning. I marvel at the complexity of the designs and when I sit with my needle and thread under a magnifying glass and high powered lamp I am in awe of the early needleworkers toiling away without the assistance of these tools. The book soothes me and transports me to another time. This is one of my favorite books in my personal library.
Sensuous and Seductive........2000-08-03
This seductive book is more than an excellent history of fine linen. It is a sensuous and seductively, elegant book! The author, Francoise de Bonneville give the reader more than a lesson on the history of textiles. She presents us with some of the most extrodinary examples of bed linens, tablecloths and napkins. Apart from the excellent section on the social history and care of fine linen, she presents detailed information about the various types of linens used, fibers, color, and weaves. The must sumptous commissions were the set of bedsheets created for American Heiress Barbara Hutton. These pink sheets were made out of silk and trimmed with point de Paris lace, fouteeen inches wide, Which was made by d'Porthault & Co. Examples of the two major Italian linen firms, Frette and Pratesi are also well represented. I agree with my fellow reviewer. This is an excellent gift for a bride; but don't be surprised to learn that men would be just as likely to buy this book as women. It is worth every Dollar!
Unquestionably the best book on fine linens........1999-08-09
This book, written with a forward by the Porthaults (who better to comment on fine linens?), is wonderful and I highly recommend it, price notwithstanding. This book is translated from the French and inlcudes: a history of linens, from chintz to damask; a glossary of embroidery stitches and styles with notations of illustrations throughout the book; and photographs of the finest linens in the world (including many made by the Porthaults). This book is very large and would make such a lovely gift for anyone who collects linens or who does fine embroidery.
Beautifully written with lovely color photos. Fascinating!.......1997-08-12
This book, translated from the French, is beautifully beguiling in its phrasing. Relates the history and techniques of the production and embroidery of exquisite linens. Photographs are handsome and even the dust cover is worth framing. Makes a great reference book as well as entertaining reading. One of my all time favorites

Terrific organization tips.......2004-01-05
I highly recommend this book to family history researchers who have limited time. The author has great suggestions for using short amounts of times -- lists of tasks that can be done in five minutes, fifteen minutes, thirty minutes -- and ideas for controlling the mountains of paper that seem inevitable. I particularly like (and use) her suggestion about an alphabetical index of ancestors: it's a lifesaver when I'm at the library and come across a familiar-looking name ("Is that someone I'm related to or someone I went to college with?"
)
Color Coding the Binders.......2002-08-29
I wish I could figure out what the author is describing I like the idea of the alpha card index to the pedigree chart and identifying each surname with a colored dot that corresponds to a binder on which a similar larger dot is placed on its spine. This affords ability to transfer family group sheets from one binder into another that would be taken to a research facility and then easily return them to the correct binder. However, she says she has over 20 binders and the colored dots come in four primary colors....does this mean she has many red dot binders for say alpha letters A-D, E-G, etc. There is no way to submit a comment or question. I am trying to use many of these features but instructions not clear.
Good for the beginning genealogist.......2001-10-10
In fact, I believe this book is mistitled. It should be "The Beginning Genealogist." I consider myself an "intermediate" genealogist and looked forward to many timesaving tips. Most of the timesavers I had already figured out for myself. The forms are helpful if you don't have them, but don't try to find them in the index. I tried to find the Correspondence Log. The only index reference is to a page that gives you a cross-reference to the introduction to the log. This section leads you to the form in the index. This was not worth the time and money to me.
Truly Essential Guide for any genealogy researcher.......2000-07-21
This is the book I wish I'd had when I began researching my family history. The organization and time-saving techniques the author shares are fantastic for anyone from the professional genealogist to those who can only work on it now and then. The techniques are clearly explained and reviewed for easy reference. The book gives just enough guidance (the tone is helpful, not bossy) for any beginner, yet the techniques are flexible to match your needs and style. If you have an out-of-control paper pile, you'll immediatley appreciate this book. Forms that can be copied for personal use are included; a more complete set can be found in Emily Anne Croom's "Unpuzzling Your Past Workbook", as recommended by the author.

Debbie Stanley's shining personality stands by the reader throughout the entire book as she offers a myriad of solutions to today's financial challenges. Her focus is on creating an organized, efficient financial system that works for you rather than you working for your system. The author emphasizes that even financial items need homes in order to manage financial clutter. This book is great! I would have never guessed that a book on organizing finances would be fun to read, but this one is! It is easy to follow and is presented in a way that makes it quite simple to customize your own systems. In addition to all the wonderful financial advice (some which I did not even realize that I needed to know!), there is plenty of advice on organizing other area's of your life. For example, dealing with non-financial paper and clutter like magazine articles and catalogs. My favorite is the "room-by-room" files. They work awesome!

you NEED this book.......2005-05-03
My favorite chapters are "Improving your relationship with Email",
"Creating the Perfect File System" and
"Using your Contact Software to Its Full Potential"
I am going to start with the email chapter and see if i can't get rid of some of these 1,000 emails in my inbox-ughhhh
This book caught my eye because my work style is very disorganized.
My email clutters up, my contacts are not in any categories and I am so tired of dealing with all the paper work by the time 5 p.m. comes that I am too tired to go home and clean anything at all.
I really need this book. I hope I can follow through with all these suggestions.
I have decided to take one chapter a month.

This Book Will Make You More Serene and More Productive.......2006-01-11
Several years ago, my office disorganization had overwhelmed me. Rarely could I find what I wanted instantaneously--and sometimes I never found the missing items. Besides losing time, I was burning energy, especially as I became more frustrated.
Fortunately, I found a solution. I contracted Monica Ricci to spend a half-day in my office, and suggest the steps I should take to gain control of the massive information I had accumulated but not sorted. To my delight, the plan she devised served me well then, and still does.
That's why I was eager to read Organize Your Office. . .In No Time. I knew I would get additional tips that help me manage my office systematically. Already, I have underlined my favorite definitions and ideas. Examples:
"When organizing your life, remember that anything you can take a few extra seconds to do now, to help you remember or eliminate a step later, is always worth doing! It's always better to invest an extra tiny bit of work in the present because it will pay off down the road in time, money, headaches, or effort saved."
"Clutter is a collection of unrelated objects living together."
"Fear-based saving is a major cause of paper clutter for many people."
In addition to these specific gems, the book offers numerous helpful features: It is very well organized, which we expect from an organizational expert. The writing style is clear and often folksy, such as: "Imagine going into a supermarket, finding the canned food aisle, and discovering that none of the cans had labels." The illustrations, including photos, bring to life the products Ricci recommends.
Organize Your Office appeals to small business owners who work from a home office, and to executives with larger work spaces. The chapters on computer organization and how to streamline your travel will benefit even the most seasoned executives.
Readers will welcome the detailed suggestions, with pointers on the best organizing products to acquire and where to get them.
The time you invest in reading this book could revolutionize your work place, once you implement Ricci's action steps. Soon you will get more done more easily. Isn't that worth a few dollars and a few hours? The Complete Communicator: Change Your Communication-change Your Life!

Great Tips!.......2005-09-27
Great tips in this book, that can easily be picked out, even if just skimming through the pages. I like how the chapters are spelled out, written in a pleasant, "talking just to you" style. Monica Ricci breaks down the tasks into do-able chunks, allowing for the different types of people out there. She has a section, in the beginning, that helps one I.D. one's own type, and then uses each of those types throughout the book to suggest how best to deal with the different organizing challenges. I have read the whole thing, but find I continue to pick it up as a reference, using it as a guide as I tackle the next office organizing challenge! It's a keeper.

Exceptionally Valuable Advice.......2005-09-21
I just bought "Organize Your Office In No Time", and have already gotten so much valuable advice from it. This book is a pleasure to learn from, it is so well organized and provides ideas for people with offices of all sizes.
This book is so different from all the other organizing books I've read because it offers "real-world" practical advice -- concepts that relate to the specific personality and work style of the reader. It contains a wide variety of organizing systems that will be easy to create and maintain, allowing you to spend less time looking for things and much more time being productive.
As a busy entertainer and motivational speaker, my office is full of job records, information, and promotional material. I've always struggled with a way to organize all this information in an easy-to-locate manner, and constantly look for effective methods that are easy to maintain.
