down to earth recipes.......2007-03-14
Living in Minn. my entire life, I know traditional Minnesota cooking!
This book has all the basics and lots of easy to make dishes.
I'm very pleased with this one.
Hot dishes, Lutefisk, and Lefse.......2000-06-15
Yep. Yah. Sure. You betcha. 'Dis cookbooks got 'em all.
Minnesota stereotypes aside, this is a fine cookbook filled with many, many practical and tasty dishes that the average American family will enjoy.
It features a lot of hot dishes (casseroles), meat and potatoes, brunch dishes, and some Minnesota favorites.
The book itself is nothing great to look at. It does feature a few black and white photographs of Minnesota sights and scenery, but contains no photographs of the food items.
The book is broken down into useful sections to help the cook quickly find whatever he or she is looking for.

The Dolls of Jules Nicolas Steiner.......2000-12-28
A beautiful book and a very well documented study with lots of photos to compare the different types of dolls made by this important maker. The thorough research that's gone into this project is what makes this book much much more than just another "coffee table book". In my opinion, this book is an absolute must for every serious collector of French antique dolls.

Awesome Book!.......2007-08-01
"500 Pitchers" is my 3rd of the "500" series of pottery books - and I have loved each one! It is a must have for all potters and especially students - each book is filled with images of great works of the potter's art, giving ideas for form and surface. I truly hope that they will do a second edition of each with new works!
Ceramic "Eye Candy"!.......2007-05-31
I am delighted with this book! It provides beautiful photography, stunning and varied examples of expertly-crafted pitchers, and unlimited design inspiration. Very little text is included -- the book is devoted to the photographs that illustrate these wonderful examples of form, glazing, and firing techniques. I definitely will be purchasing the "500 Cups" book now!
excellent series.......2007-05-28
this entire series of pottery books is wonderful. They're inspiring and cover a wide range of styles and techniques. My own tastes and pottery style aspire more to classic wedgwood and chinese porcelains rather than the more popular organic, earthy pottery one usually sees. It is nice that this series includes examples from the entire spectrum of contemporary potters.
A timely arrival.......2007-02-08
The book that I ordered arrived on time and in great condition.
500 pitchers.......2006-11-13
I own 4 of this 500 series books. This one,on Pitchers, was not inspiring to me,on the whole. It could be that I tend to work with low fire glazes, and am not keen on alot of stoneware glazing-something this book has a lot of.I sold it to a friend who is a lover of stoneware techniques, however, and she tells me she likes it very much.In case your wondering,I have the animals, figures and bowls, and teapots! Thoes,I am extremely pleased with. Most of these have seriously unconventional approaches, and thats what I love!

Book Description
Exploring the untold stories of Hull-House arts programs in the 1920s and 1930s and the pottery program at the commercial Hull-House Kilns, Pots of Promise also addresses the story of Mexicans in Chicago and the history of Hull-House in the years when Jane Addams increasingly turned her attention beyond the settlement house she had co-founded.
This book is the first on the Hull-House Kilns; it examines Mexicans in the Hull-House colonia, Chicago's largest Mexican settlement. Pots of Promise includes 131 color and black-and-white photographs, many of them previously unpublished, and four essays: "Bringing Art to Life: The Practice of Art at Hull-House" by Peggy Glowacki; "Incorporating Reform and Religion: Mexican Immigrants, Hull-House, and the Church" by David A. Badillo; "Shaping Clay, Shaping Lives: The Hull-House Kilns" by Cheryl R. Ganz; and "Forging a Mexican National Identity in Chicago: Mexican Migrants and Hull-House" by Rick A. Lpez.

Book Description
This special pottery combines the traditions of Pueblo and Navajo artists with daring new interpretations by the modern generation. In 280 beautiful color photos, styles inherently connected with old beliefs and Southwest clay are shown to have fresh appearance in the hands of contemporary potters. The book has three easy-to-use sections: Part 1 presents vessels (bowls, plates, ollas, pitchers, and vases) arranged alphabetically by living potters in Acoma, Hopi, Jemez, Navajo, San Felipe, San Ildefonso, San Juan, Santa Ana, Zia and Zuni families. Part 2 presents figures (storytellers and charming animal figures) arranged alphabetically by artists. Part 3 is an unprecedented directory of artists (kachina carvers, jewelry makers, sculptors and potters), in a comprehensive alphabetical format which combines biographies with the makers' personal beliefs to help the reader interpret their work. The Directory also cross-references the pottery shown in the book. This reference section alone makes the work indispensible for everyone concerned with contemporary Indian arts.

Book Description
Murano, a recent work by the distinguished American poet Mark Doty, is a contemplative meditation on human mortality and the mystery of artistic creation. Addressed to his late friend, the poet Lynda Hull, the musings in Murano are set against the backdrop of Venice and the glassmaker's art,
as practiced for centuries on the island of Murano in the Venetian lagoon.
This moving poem is illustrated with details of sixteen pieces of dazzling Murano glass from the collection of the Getty Museum. These fine, delicate objects paired with Doty's stirring words create an exceptional visual and verbal experience.
Customer Reviews:
Inconsequential "gift" book........2006-08-06
I collect glass and books on murano glass. This book offers no new images or knowledge. It is not for the serious collector but would be fine to give a novice as a hostess gift, stocking stuffer etc. It is nothing more than a mere bagatelle. I would suggest paying more and buying a more useful book on the subject of Murano glass.
A Treasure Trove of Glass and Words.......2003-02-23
I believe that Mark Doty is one of the world's best poets, and have bought most of his books and memoirs. I bought this for my former wife as a birthday gift. She is not a poetry fan, but loves this book. She keeps it on the table in her waiting room with some other reading materials and tells me she has had eight or ten patients ask where they could buy the book. A treaure trove of stunning photographs and words side by side. Being a published poet, I would call Doty's words beautiful musings on the island of Murano, glassmaking and life. A little gem!
This Book Should Be Better.......2001-08-08
I'm not sure what to make of this little book. It is certainly printed well, a requirement for an art book. The closeups of the Murano glass are beautiful. I wish the smaller photographs of the same glass objects in the back of the book were bigger. I got no real impression as to what the glass actually looked like. There must be bigger, more comprehensive books on Murano glass, if you cannot take a trip to the J. Paul Getty Museum, where these treasures are, or in the best of all possible worlds, go to Venice and Murano and see glass until you cannot look at another object.
The poem "Murano" though beautiful is not my favorite Doty poem. Written for his deceased poet friend Lynda Hull, the poem contrasts the permanence of Murano glass with the stench and death often associated with Venice. "Is this what becomes of art, the hard-won permanence outside of time? A struck match-head of a city, ungodly lonely in its patina of fumes and ash? Gorgeous scrap heap where no one lives, or hardly anyone."
There is no need to combine pictures and poetry. One usually dominates the other. First class poetry does not need to be illustrated. (I certainly think Mr. Doty is a first class poet; his poems often bring me much pleasure. I'm also of the opinion that poetry should be read, rather than explicated. The good poet always says what we cannot explain very well.) Fine art does not require commentary. Books like this are difficult to pull off and seldom satisfy completely. This one is no exception.

Warm Glass is Hot.......2003-01-21
This book is the only one covering artists working in non-blown glass. Though it is limited to artists currently working in the US, it is a great overview of the kind of work currently being made. Stunning photographs and excellent essays by Stuhr and Susanne Frantz, one on the history of glassmaking and the other on the early days of warm glass--people like the Higgins, working in thier homes. A must for every serious glass collector or artist and especially good for schools with craft programs or museums with collections.

excellent.......1999-07-18
This book is excellent..It is simple to understand and helps you to see how much control you have over your own destiny just by changing the flow of the chi or yin and yang process. I have practiced this and it works. I went through every house plan that I ever lived in and was amazed at the things that had happened in my life that were influenced by the Feng Shui of these homes. Even a miscarriage that my mother had when I was eight was shown by these floor plans, windows and door arrangements. It may sound crazy, but it works even when you are not aware. It gives understanding to why bad things happen to good people.
