LOVE this book!!!.......2004-03-26

I have had this since 1999, and I have only had time to "read" it. Until recently, my husband & I tried Frico and Mozarella Stuffed Cabbage. It was so good (and simple too!). I am now planning to pick up more recipes to cook for the rest of my family. Will have a party... - and they say I couldn't cook.
Aside from the recipes, Michelle includes here travel experiences - her writing style sounds so true and sincere, just enjoy her stories. Buy this and enjoy the overall feel of this book.

Everyone Who Loves Italian Food Should Have This One!.......2000-01-23

As a collector of Italian cookbooks, I now count this one as one of my favorites. Michele Scicolone shares 250 wonderful recipes with very easy instructions, and adds a little extra note to each recipe. I hosted an Italian Buffet last year for 50 people, and used this book as my primary reference. The recipe for Frico (cheese wafers) and roasted Olives with Fennel and Lemon are so tasty, I serve them now with drinks everytime I entertain! This book offers a combination of both traditional Italian recipes, and those more contemporary with sometimes surprising ingredients. As the Italian Cooking Host @ Bella Online, and someone with over 150 Italian cookbooks in my collection, I would say this is definately a book to buy! My only regret is that there weren't more pictures as the ones included are so inspiring, it makes you want to run into the kitchen and start cooking.

Someone gave me a few cookbooks -- (never do this to an experienced cook!) Every time I reached for this book to bring to a recycle center some new recipe caught my eye. It's deceptive. The sidebars tell the stories you need to hear about the recipes. A tuna pesto? Sounds dull, no? It is a superb dish. A spaghetti sauce with only beets? (The cover photo tells it all.) A lentil and clam stew? Lentils with CLAMS ??? It works. It works brilliantly. This is not a basic book. But it is a wonderful addition to any Italian food library.

A wonderful book for anyone who has any degree of cooking ability. From appetizers to desserts you can find anything that you want. All of the recipes are written with easy to find ingredients. A story accompanies each recipe telling you where she found it, and gives you the feeling of being in that location as you are cooking. The best Italian cookbook that I've ever owned.

This is the bible of collecting German helmets. Out of print and difficult to find. The photos are a little dark but that may be the only flaw in a book that covers the development and history of the German war helmet. An excellent reference book. Readers may also refer to 2 books by Kelly Hicks of VA, these volumes concentrate on the helmets of the SS. Hicks is a noted US collector and foremost authority on the German SS helmet. His books are "SS Helmets", collector guides, Vol 1 and 2, and are produced by Reddick enterprises in TX. These three books are essential for the WW2 militaria collector.

PICTURES: NOT ALWAYS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS.......2000-03-02

As the title says, this is a photographic study - no text. THE PHOTOGRAPHY IS GREAT, the variety in officer's and NCO's hats is impressive (the caps, perhaps a little less so), and the variety of helmets (steel and leather) is nowhere as great as it should be. If you're looking for a good and quick visual reference or a nice coffee-table book, you couldn't do much better. If you want a resource for authenticating headgear then you need something textual and with photos showing greater detail.

PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDY.......1999-10-19

Perhaps some of the other reviewers should read the title of the book which describes it perfectly - "a photographic study". This is probably the best collection of quality color photographs of authentic German headgear ever assembled and serves as a great quick reference for the collector and historian. It allows the viewer to see details of many very rare pieces of WW2 history all in one place. A great job of assembling quality material and superb photographs.

Fine example of still photography.......1999-08-18

Complete lack of historical text, even on a basic level of manufacturing or development of the headgear, is frustrating at best. This is a $75 picture book for collectors who can appreciate the subtle differences between the M35 and M40 steel helmet without further need of written details. For the rest of us, well, the pictures look great...they should for $75.

German Headgear of World War Two is a must have for any collector, artist, or dealer. It shows in detail all of the aspects of each example in glorious color, not black and white. It you need to identify any German headgear of WW2, you won't want to go without this book. Again a splendid book!

If you have at least intermediate needlepointing experience, you won't have any problems. However, beginners beware! The instructions for working the tent stitch on page 11 are appallingly incorrect. That aside, the charts are easy to read with a combination of color and symbols. Most of the backgrounds are repeats and would be easy to substitute for each other. The cats themselves are beautiful. Recommended for experienced needleworkers.

Julie Hasler has captured the heart of the cat lover. When I look at needlepoint books the first thing I look for is a design of a cat, and to think here is a book with no cutesy cats. Each design reminds one of some cat one has known. The only problem is deciding which to make first. Keep doing more books, Julie Hasler!

Advice for Decorating Your Manor House.......2006-05-09

This decorating books leans heavily towards the English country home and if you like that decorating style, then this book is for you. The photos are lovely. There's the stag's head over the fireplace, the china dogs on the mantel and paintings of race horses.
Although I found the reading a bit tedious, the section on home libraries and offices were appealing. I also liked one tip (instructions for converting a worn oriental rug into a floor pillow).
The book gives advice on choosing colors, lighting and window treatments. It's arranged by rooms (living room, entry hall, home office, etc.).
