We'll Meet Again is filled with the ingredients that Mary Higgins Clark devotees will devour: fast-paced suspense, double-crossing villains, romantic intrigue, and a resounding showdown at the end. Harder to swallow is the excessive use of theatricals whenever the author describes a satanic like HMO, and its legion of evil doctors. The darkest knight of all is Peter Black, whose eyes "were cold, angry, menacing--certainly not the eyes of a healer." Still, melodrama aside, Higgins Clark still knows how to spin a good yarn.
Her heroine in We'll Meet Again is an investigative reporter named Fran Simmons, who is not unlike the bright, resourceful Dr. Susan Chandler in You Belong to Me. Fran has just been hired to work on a popular new TV show called True Crime. Coincidentally, her very first assignment involves an ex-pupil from her old high school, the posh Cranden Academy in Greenwich, Connecticut. Molly Lasch had been incarcerated in her mid-20s, accused of pulverizing her husband's head with a Remington bronze sculpture. The murder of this community doctor, and chief executive officer of a local HMO, stunned Greenwich.
For half a decade Molly claimed to have no memory of the event, but now out on parole, slivers of memory trickle back--and Molly informs the press that someone else was in the house at the time of her husband's murder. Few people believe her--even less so when a key witness from the original trial is stabbed to death and evidence links Molly to the scene of the crime. It's up to the ever vigilant Fran to investigate what the police won't--and she unearths some very dark and extremely dirty secrets that will further shock the quiet community. --Naomi Gesinger
Book Description
At the heart of this "diabolical plot that Mary Higgins Clark prepares so carefully and executes with such relish" (The New York Times Book Review), a respected doctor is murdered -- and his beautiful young wife is charged with the crime.
Dr. Gary Lasch, prominent Greenwich, Connecticut, doctor and founder of the HMO Remington Health Management, is found dead in his home, his skull crushed by a blow with a heavy bronze sculpture, and his wife, Molly, in bed covered with his blood. It was the Lasches' housekeeper, Edna Barry, who made the grisly discovery the morning after Molly's unexpectedly early return from Cape Cod, where she had gone to seclude herself upon learning of her husband's infidelity. As the evidence against Molly grows, her lawyer plea-bargains a manslaughter charge to avoid a murder conviction.
Released from prison nearly six years later, Molly reasserts her innocence to reporters, among them an old school friend, Fran Simmons, an investigative reporter and anchor for a true-crime show. Molly convinces Fran to research and produce a program on her husband's death, and as hidden aspects of Gary Lasch's life and the affairs of Remington Health Management come to light, Fran herself becomes a target for murder.

Review of audio, not the book.......2007-10-10
I have always enjoyed Mary Higgins Clark's books, and this one is a real page-turner. But the audio version is a different story. It is hard to concentrate on the story as so many words are mispronounced. Greenwich, CT is not "Green-which," but "Grenn-ich." "Brusquely" is not "brooske-ly." And "been" rhymes with "bin," not "bean." The list goes on. (And then there is the reader for Sara Paretsky's Chicago-based mysteries who pronounces Chicago Cubs icon "Harry Caray" as "Harry Cuhh-RAY. Sheeshhhh......)
we'll meet again.......2007-09-17
The story centers on Molly, a physician's wife who is accused of murdering her husband. As the story unfolds
thru the eyes of Fran, who is an investigative reporter, the possible killer takes on many possibilities. In the
end, the health maintenance organization, which is rife with deluded egomaniacs, who end up murdering
their Physican colleague, in order to cover up their criminal behavior.
Fran, of course, gets thru the maze of deceit, and exposes these scoundrels. Molly is exonerated, and
Fran gets the scoop, which ends up as a presentation of the truth for her investigative TV show.
As the mystery unfolds, the story captured my interest, and left me with a strong desire to finish the book
in one sitting. I will be reading more of the authors mysteries!
MY FAV BOOK EVER!.......2007-03-29

We'll Meet Again
By: Mary Higgins Clark
Dr. Gary Lasch died in his study. His wife, Molly Lasch, fell asleep with blood all over herself. She can't remember a thing about what happened with her husband. Everyone says she murdered her husband but she knows she could never do that. Molly meets an old friend, Fran Simmons. Fran works at a TV station that is doing a murder investigation for a TV show.
As Fran and Molly work hard to find out what happened the night of Gary's death they find out it was Molly's closest friend, Jenna. Jenna had killed Gary and got out of the house, but not before Molly got into the house. Molly remembers one thing from that night, a sound of heels running and a door opening.
I like this book because I think it is cool how someone can find out clues and figure out a murder like Fran did. That is so cool that you can focus on it and put someone in jail for someone's murder
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries or investigation books. This book is not that long of a read, so if you don't have that much time it is a good book too.

Book Description
During World War II, two figures symbolized the spirit of Britain: Winston Churchill and Vera Lynn. The indomitable optimism, quiet courage, enterprise, patience, and uncrushable humour of the British people was personified by the irrepressible energy of Dame Vera Lynn who sang to the troops abroad and reached the hearts of the people on the home front. Including Dame Veras own recollections of the war, Well Meet Again revisits the way the people of Britain lived during those extraordinary years. Rationing, air raids, adjusting to loved ones being away while trying to maintain as normal a routine as possible are all addressed alongside family life, education, evacuation, the royal family, sport, commerce and entertainment. How did the British deal with all these aspects of life during the years between 1939 and 1945? Marvellously anecdotal and sumptuously illustrated throughout, this book reveals the fashions of the time, the films people were watching, the songs people were singing and the headlines that people absorbed everyday.Published to coincide with VE Day and all of the surrounding media coverage. Dame Vera Lynn is a much-loved national treasure, who epitimises the Dunkirk spirit of the war.

Customer Reviews:
A facsimile reproduction of the 1948 first edition.......2005-08-08
Roads is a facsimile reproduction of the 1948 first edition, Roads is a fantasy novel by pulp fiction pioneer Seabury Quinn. First published in the January 1938 issue of "Weird Tales", Roads is an "adult Christmas story" that offers a daring re-interpretation of the legend and tradition of Santa Claus, drawn heavily from the inspiration of original Christian legends. Renowned fantasy artist Virgil Finlay illustrated the 1948 edition, in this gorgeous reproduction that is the next best thing to owning the original. "Roads" comes packaged in a stiff cardboard box, and retains its classic and timeless charm, as well as a sense of wonder and imagination to look beyond boundaries. Highly recommended.
The best Christmas story since the original.......2001-12-26
_Roads_ is the best Christmas story since the original one. Had I been the first reviewer, I would have only given clues toward the ending, where Klaus the Barbarian becomes Claus the good, because it is meant as a surprise ending. But this is a book I wish I could read in a church Christmas festival to show doubters how "Santa" - St Nicholas, who even if he wasn't real, should have been - is a symbol of Christ, and good; loving, giving and caring, not an anagram of "Satan".
Even if you cannot afford the Arkham edition, it was republished in a paperback collection of the _Best of Weird Tales_, and may be again someday. This story deserves the same kind of wide renown and affection as Richard Paul Evans' _The Christmas Box_ and O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi". Rankin-Bass's animation is cute, but this is the kind of fiction that ought to be true.... Santa SHOULD be real, and this SHOULD be his story.
the best christmas story since dickens's "carol".......1999-08-24
I first met Seabury Quinn through "Weird Tales" in the early 1930s and was lucky enough to meet and to know both him and his wife when I was stationed at the Pentagon during the Korean War. We stayed in touch and every year or so we got together at his apartment near Dupont Circle or in downtown Washington for drinks, good food and great conversation. I valued his friendship. We were both in the intelligence business, Seabury with the Air Force and I with the Army. I was saddened when the hostess at the Dupont Plaza where we often met for dinner called to tell me of my friend's death. I cherish his memory as I do the signed copy of "Roads" he gave my mother for Christmas when it was published. Many Christmas eves have come and gone since I first opened "Roads' and savored the tale and its completely fresh look at an old and well loved Yuletide legend. Dickens set the scene and Seabury Quinn came along to tell a story with a cast of characters to touch hearts young and old. Ebenezer Scrooge shows how we can keep Christmas well. Klaus, the man from the Northland who once saw a child in Egypt and years later watched the death of a mon on a hill called Golgotha shows why we keep it in our hearts today. From Amahl and his Night Visitors to that Other Wise Man the simple yet powerful story of "Roads" has already taken its place up there with the best.
Divinely inspired, I consider it a classic seasonal work........1997-12-22
The editor of the anthology in which I first read this story says that Quinn intended it as a Christmas card to his friends. I like to think that I might have been one. My copy burned on Christmas 1993. Since then, I have combed through numerous stacks trying to locate it. No matter what you have been raised to think, this story will change forever how you view the miracle of life, and the pagentry of the Christmas season.
A WONDERFUL STORY OF SANTA CLAUS.......1997-12-10
A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS STORY THAT EVERY ADULT NEEDS TO READ. THE WAY MR. QUINN WAS ABLE TO TIE TOGETHER THE FACTS CONCERNING JESUS AND THE LEGENDS OF SANTA ARE SIMPLY PHENOMENAL.

If you eat natural foods, or want to learn more about them, reading The New Whole Foods Encyclopedia will be a treat. The book is an invitation to learn the lore, health properties, and use of more than a thousand familiar and unusual foods and herbs. Each entry consists of a description, a little history or legend, the health benefits, and how to buy (or find) and use it. Author Rebecca Wood clearly delights in her subject--her writing is warm, like love letters to these intriguing foods. "I don't know what I love most about asafetida--its knock-your-socks-off sulfurous aroma ... or ... its pungent but pleasant and satisfying flavor," she writes of the herb also known as devil's dung. "I also love the way the word rolls off my tongue." Not all the entries are complimentary, though--Wood tried to like banana squash, but ended up feeding it to her chickens. Dotting the food entries are sidebars of recipes, preparation suggestions, and weird information that doesn't fit anywhere else: how horses get sunburned, why young wives fed their elderly husbands celery in the 1600s, tips for not crying over onions, and how to harvest natural chewing gum, for example. You may start by looking up a particular food, but you'll linger, reading just for the pleasure of it. --Joan Price

Customer Reviews:
Really great wealth of information about healing foods.......2007-05-08
Another great book by Michael Murray. Everyone should have one!
Easy to Read, Comprehensive Reference for the Lay Person.......2006-12-09
Lots of pertinent information, clearly presented. The egg discrepancy may be a typo, but as a former proofreader, I'd say it's unlikely a work of this size won't have one or two...Over all, I'm impressed with the accuracy. I particularly appreciate the appendices in the back. The disease-specific prescriptions are great, too.
Wrong Stance on Important Topic.......2006-05-17
Dr. Murray condons the use of Sucralose and Asparatame, pg 45. There is so much scientific data showing how harmful these pervasive substances are, it is unconscionable to approve their use in ANY way.
There is good info in this book. I can't say I've perused the whole book.
Informative and Helpful.......2006-03-29
"Healing Foods" takes a holistic approach to health, starting with the food we put in our bodies. I found "Healing Foods" helpful in pointing out what kinds of fruit are best bought organic. Organic watermelon for instance is better than conventional watermelon due to its high absorption of pesticides etc. I wouldn't say "Healing Foods" is a bible, but it's a good reference on healthy living. Because it's a reference book and not a guide book, it requires you to have something in mind. If you have say "hazelnuts" in mind and you want to know how best to store them and what they're nutritional value is, then the book is helpful. "Healing Foods" is not, however, a substitute for proper medical attention and especially acute medical care.
Grenerally good book.......2006-01-26
I liked the presentation of the book. It has a list of all different kinds of foods and then gives the benefits.
But, I am not giving this book 5 stars because there is some incorrect or misleading information. For example, the book says (page 8) that the per capita of eggs was 37 in 1909, but according to the Department of Agriculture the per capita was 292.8 (www.ers.usda.gov). That's a big difference!
He mentions phytic acid, but he doesn't say what foods have them or how to deactivate them. (Phytates pull calcium, zinc, and magnisium out of the body. They are found in grains and seeds, and they can be deactivated by sprouting or soaking in water with some yogurt.)
He writes that vitamin B6 helps detoxify estrogen out of the body, but he fails to say that only about 10% of vitamin B6 is absorbed from plant foods while about 100% of B6 is absorbed from animal foods (_AJCN_ 1988: 863-7). The ironic thing is that he says to avoid ALL animal foods (even organic) if one has an estrogen problem.
I'm glad he says usable vitamin B12 is only found in animal foods.
Overall, it's a good book.

For the first time in one volume, a comprehensive range of nutraceuticals is examined by a professional organization dedicated to applying the rigorous standards of conventional medicine to natural and alternative practices.
Based on the most recent scientific research, this encyclopedia combines the wisdom of conventional and alternative medicine to help readers choose and use the nutraceuticals best suited to their individual needs-and make informed decisions about their health.

Customer Reviews:
A fairly good book on Tuscan Cuisine.......2004-03-02
When I opened this book by Mary Ann Esposito to read and review, I was looking for something that would raise it above it's face value of a companion volume to an average PBS cooking show series. When I embark on a review with this objective, I almost always find something. In this case, I did not.
This doesn't mean this is a bad book, only that it may not have that much to offer to someone who is already steeped in Italian culinary lore. It is inferior to, for example, David Downie's book on Roman cooking as a snapshot of an Italian regional cuisine. It is less genuine on a personal level than Mario Batali's `Simple Italian Food'. It is less of a cookbook than Lydia Bastianich's two books accompanying her PBS series on Italian food and Italian-American food. I will recommend this book as a source of classic Tuscan recipes over books by Pino Luongo, who clearly states that most of his recipes are original with him or his restaurant staff. They are not Tuscan; they are inspired by the Tuscan cuisine.
Part of the problem is that, unlike Lydia's books, this one has recipes in chapters which follow the episodes on the TV show rather than recipes organized by course as is typical of most Italian cookbooks. This awkwardness is not offset by a supplementary table of contents listing all recipes by food or by course.
Another part of the problem seems to be that unlike Mario's book, the experiences of Tuscan culture are all second hand. Most life experiences are not of the author but of the owner and employees at the Tuscan villa, Spannocchia, at which the PBS crew is housed. Ms. Espositio's experiences feel like a tourist's experiences.
One thing that impressed me about the creation of this book is the number of people it takes to put on a cooking show, even on PBS. There must be a dozen principle contributors at least in the Acknowledgments. In comparison, Julia Child started her show at the Boston PBS station with nothing more than her husband, a cameraman, a soundman, a producer, and herself.
I really wish I would have seen the PBS series on which the show is based, as I am sure that would have increased the value of the book for me by two or threefold. My experience with books by the `Frugal Gourmet', Jeff Smith show that books like this can be very attractive if you are not familiar with the wider world of cookbooks. Twelve (12) years ago, I thought Jeff Smith was something special. Now I know he was simply a decent communicator with a gimmick. I don't even think he was especially frugal. Since this book does accompany a TV show, I am really surprised at the dull photographs. The sepia coloring even seems to obscure some details in the picture.
There is no problem with the recipes in this book. Many classic Tuscan dishes are here and all of the recipes give competent instructions on how to prepare them.
I would recommend this book to anyone who plans to travel in Tuscany anytime soon. The book has a strong travelogue flavor about it and its recommendations about where to eat in Tuscany are not doing anyone any good unless you go there. The price of the book rescues it from a below average rating. As I stated at the outset, the book provides what is expected and nothing more. My only regret is that unlike many other regions of Italy, I have yet to find a good cookbook that effectively explores this cuisine.
