Author has a definite ax to grind........2007-09-02
Please, Carolyn, let us know what you think about religion. I didn't quite get it in this book. Also, please give us your take on morality. Having your main character hop from bed to bed while really lusting after a married man whose wife is supposedly pregnant (I don't believe it for a moment.) My guess is that will be revealed in some later book as a ploy to get the husband to stick with her instead of running off with Sarah Booth.
The ex-slave ghost is insulting and annoying. The incest in the book is beyond belief. The idea that a U.S. senator could be married to a transsexual and the public not know about it is ridiculous.
There is no mystery to this series. Worse yet, the main character falls into the answer and does very little to figure out the crime. Seems like the writer wants a vehicle to explore sexuality rather than to be a mystery writer.
Want to read some good mystery series with a strong female character? Try Erlene Fowler's Benni series. Want a funny mystery series with likeable and believable characters? Try Donna Andrews' Meg Langslow series.
I bought this series (through Bones to Pick) on the strength of the first two books - it has gone downhill. I will read the next book (as I already purchased it) but no more after. I just can't like the characters with the exception of Tinkie. I'll guess that the author will eventually destroy her character too. It certainly looks like her marriage will be gone - the author is painting her husband Oscar with a black brush starting in this book.

Tough, modern Southern woman, Sarah Booth Delaney doesn't let her hearbreak over Sheriff Coleman Peters slow her down as she sets out to find the murderer of a faith healer's handicapped child. Setting aside her own problems, Sarah Booth and her assistant, Tinkie (and friends) travel to the Big Easy to unravel the murder mystery. Set in the cool autumn months of late October, its a refreshing, easy read for a hot summer day!
Sarah Booth solves it again! .......2006-06-02
Carolyn Haines once again takes her readers on yet another ride through the wonderful Mississippi Delta and shows us there is more to being a dectective than solving a "who done it." Sarah Booth's colorful entourage of friends, CeCe and Tinkie assist Sarah as she searches the French Quarter of New Orleans for the murderer of a spiritual healer's handicapped child. In addition to solvng other people's problems Sarah has to deal with her own stress and desire in the form of Sheriff Coleman Peters (her unrequited love interest) and Hamilton Garrett (the man who just won't stay in Zinnia).
A great story with lots of twists and turns. I can't wait for the next mystery in Sarah Booth Delaney's life. Will she go with Hamilton Garrett or will she stay in Zinnia? Will Coleman finally come to his senses? Whatever the outcome, it's always a comfort to know that Sarah Booth will route out the badguy and save the day!
Wallowing in the Past.......2005-02-18
I've been a huge fan of Carolyn Haines since the beginning of this delightful series, but I'm starting to lose patience with her main character. Part of it may be because I knew the "who-dun-it" and "why" fairly early on in this book, and therefore I needed the main characters to keep me interested. Also, the lack of the author's usual humor allowed me to see more of the main character's weaknesses, which may have tainted my opinion. Sarah Booth Delaney is a good friend and a good detective, but she also is a miserable woman wallowing in the past. She keeps her history wrapped around her like a cloak to avoid doing anything productive with her life. She might as well go lie down in the family plot and get it over with; the past is where she is most comfortable.
Still, one sour experience will not stop me from anticipating the next Mississippi Delta novel.

Great characters, a fantastic plot and a writer who knows how to draw both perfectly. Loved every minute of this book. Can't wait for the next Sarah Booth adventure.

What a good idea all these Chicken Soup for the Soul books are! Instead of reading one book and hunting around for the most touching or uplifting passage, the Soup brigade of editors and writers scours the published world for brief excerpts, arranges them by category, and sells them by the kabillion.
The spoon-size stories in Chicken Soup for the Couple's Soul hit the spot and warm the heart. Take the case of Dame Margot Fonteyn, the legendary dancer. She fell madly for Latin lover Roberto Arias at 18 in 1937, but history flung them apart. He recourted her 14 years later, after he'd become Panama's ambassador to the UN. Five assassin's bullets crippled him, but not their romance: he watched from the wings in a stretcher as she took 43 curtain calls in Romeo and Juliet. "I feel it's rather a fair division," she said of their love. "He thinks. I move. You see, I love him." Another love-triumphing-over-paralysis chapter reprints the most stunning passage of Christopher Reeve's Still Me.

Warm and Lovely Book.......2006-11-30
This book was so good, I almost read it all in a day. I love true love stories. My two favorite stories were the ones about the apples and about the pay phone. It was really nice to read all these love stories.
Not What I was Hoping For.......2006-11-05
My wife and I had a cross country trip planned (driving from Virginia back to Utah) and we wanted to get some stuff to listen to that would be inspiring and help bolster our marriage of 18 years. We haven't had much alone time with four kids. Well, this one sounded good so we bought it. The stories are okay, but most of them seemed to deal with death and losing a loved one. Didn't do us much good at all.
Heartwarming........2006-08-02
The Chicken Soup series of books have certainly left an indelible mark on society and CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE COUPLE'S SOUL is no exception. There is a lot to like about all of these books. Usually presented in 2 - 3 page vignettes that make for easy reading and a variety of plots reach varied interests.
This particular volume tells of adventures of finding the love of a life. There are chapters here on finding each other, intimacy, commitment and much more. This is a treasure couples should enjoy together.
Just what I needed.......2006-06-10
I'm a huge fan of the chicken soup series, and this book did not disappoint me.
For a married woman who was in a bit of a rut, it reminded me of just what it means to be in love with someone.
Almost all the stories touched my heart and I even had the courage to share some of them with my husband. It's nice to sit down and read about couples who have had ups and downs and have still managed to survive it all. If you are 1/2 of a couple then I would suggest this book in a heartbeat.

I thought I was getting a like-new book, but the dust jacket is worn more than I would expect. I asked the seller for a small compensation due to their misrepresentation, but I never heard back from them.

Of all the vegetarian cookbooks I've come across, this one is among the best. I've tried other cookbooks such as Moosewood and was never satisfied. This book actually has entrees that aren't just a collection of Middle Eastern dishes. They are original, yet simple and easy to follow and don't require a trip to specialty stores for that one ingredient you've never heard of. The dishes that I've prepared from this book have been enjoyed by vegetarians and meat-eaters alike, so if you're family is divided on such issues, have no fear.

This is my all time favorite cookbook. Anyone can use it and get terrific results. It's laid out in a very organized fashion making it easy to read and follow. My favorite recipes? Ashram lentil soup, and the Zucchini Pinenut Tamales!!

I own about 45 Vegan and Vegetarian cookbooks and this one is the best! Head and shoulders above the rest. It's recipes are easy to make. They are also incredibly delicious and nutritious! No need to sacrifice taste for good health when you have this gem in your library. The Indian breakfast cereal is now a staple in our house. If you don't own this book do yourself a favor and purchase it. You won't be sorry!
