Book Description
That rough-and-tumble black tomcat Midnight Louie and his flame-haired human companion, temple barr, think shooting a cat food commercial will allow them to play hooky from mayhem. But life is never easy for the vivacious pair, and Temple and Louie are center stage when beloved comic actor (and notorious ladies' man) Darren Cooke is shot to death. Cooke had asked Temple to find out if a mysterious stalker was his unacknowledged daughter, and she is determined to find out the truth. But the search for truth raised a dangerous question: Was this really a murder, or was Cooke a tortured funnyman who finally rang down his own curtain.

Enjoyable Louie continues to entertain..........2006-07-21
For those who are Louie fans, this entry in the series is entertaining and fun. It's a mix of a mystery, a soap opera, and imaginative fun for all. Especially, Midnight Louie's um - experience and new found awareness. The book offers a little of everything - not unlike the city of it's setting. A little fantasy, reality and good natured fun! It's a coaster ride till the end. You really never know what next, but at the end when the loose ends are tied up, the good news is there is another story to come...
Murder is for the birds........1999-03-29

That feline sleuth Midnight Louis at his show stopping best.......1997-03-20
Temple Barr, Las Vegas public relations specialist and part time sleuth, finds herself once again simultaneously working both careers. The local Chamber of Commerce has hired her to serve as a liaison between artist Domingo, and the movers and shakers of the town. They hope to obtain permission for the eccentric maestro to plaster their collective properties with about a million pink ceramic flamingos. While acting as stage mother to her cat, the renowned Midnight Louie, who is starring in a TV commercial, Temple meets Darren Cooke, a womanizer and famous comic, who needs her sleuthing help.
....... Darren is being stalked by a woman, through letters and vitriolic phone calls. The near hysterical woman claims to be his biological daughter. Darren wants Temple to find out if this woman is in deed a child of his that he knew nothing about or if she is a dangerous nut. After finishing his heartfelt plea, Darren makes a pass at Temple, who walks out on the aging Don Juan. However, when he is shot on the set, she begins to investigate the women in Darren's life. As Temple peels away the layers of deception, danger to her own life grows stronger, forcing her personal body guard, Midnight Louie, to protect her while looking over his own shoulders to insure he does not become a victim too.
......... Anytime Midnight Louie appears, readers know that they are in for a treat. With her latest entry in the fun series, CAT IN A FLAMINGO FEDORA, Carole Nelson Douglas continues to provide some of the most thrilling and humorous sleuthing west of the Mississippi.

Different and engaging!.......2001-01-27
I liked Joel Rosenberg's Guardians of the Flame series but not his others, so stumbling on D'shai a while back was a welcome surprise. This book is simply superb, as is the sequel, Hour of the Octopus. Kami, the protagonist, is likable though flawed and weaves a fascinating mystery. The setting, an eastern mythos that was a great deal of fun, was richly painted and a nice departure from the watered-down-ren-fair stuff we are too often fed. D'shai is packed full of neat little cultural commentaries and has its share of twists. I would dearly love to see Mr. Rosenberg write another in this series... and another... and another.
a great book.......1998-11-28
being and acrobat performing with Cirque du Soleil, as well as a big fan of science fiction, I've found this book to be one of the most accurate interpretations of the life of an acrobat. some authors seem to have no clue, but Rosenberg does a very convincing job...
Balance is the way..........1998-04-13
My favorite Rosenberg book! The book is set in D'Shai, a land ruled by the Lord Toshtai, where the people have magical talents - kazuh. Some have the kazuh for running, others for acrobatics, swordsmanship, cooking, etc. Kami Khuzud, eldest son of a kazuh acrobat, seems to have none, but finds his talent - an undiscovered kazuh - during his investigation of his sister's death. The kazuh skills and the interaction of Kami - a peasant acrobat - with the upper classes (who can kill peasants at whim) and his acrobat troop make this tale one well worth reading.

Bought This Book for My Father.......2007-07-23
I bought this book for my 82 year old Father after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
He told me the book was one of the best he had ever read. My father was a highly educated, intelligent man that gained inspiration from this book. I am grateful to Mr. Chopra for this.
Light, airy, positive but not profound.......2007-05-08
If you believe in kharma, this book will help you create good kharma. If you don't believe in kharma, it's basically a book on how to create harmony in your life and exist in a positive way. Hence, three stars. If you want a light positive read, and some helpful advice on how to conduct your life in a positive way, try it. If you want something profound, this isn't it.
Ageless Body Timeless Mind.......2007-04-10
wonderful source material. I bought and read it cover to cover 10 years ago and recently purchased it again as a gift for a friend who just turned 60. I do believe this to be a timeless book and as a psychotherapist recommend it to my clients.
WORD GAMES.......2006-03-16
AGELESS BODY is Deepak's attempt to neutralize the word "old" as in old age. The writer has a knack for making common words, like "body, "mind" and "self," into profound concepts. His technique is to overlay his abstract ideas with suggestive experimental studies. But ambiguity in interpreting these studies abound.
If you like poetry, Deepak may be your read: "The billions of changes occurring in our cells are only the passing scenery of life; (P. 36)" Or try to interpret this one: "The emptiness at the core of every atom is the womb of the universe; in the flicker of thought when two neurons interact there is an opportunity for a new world to be born. (P.40)"
At times he attributes to cells and DNA a creative intelligence to direct their own construction and at other times his designer is invisible. He would make a great spokesman for the current hocus pocus over "intelligent design." He can't accept the growth of any cell, even a plant cell, without an intelligence involved. He mentions and attacks evolution only one time on P. 115, asserting that the growth of a cell could never be a random process.
Deepak ends up in the very same thought circle as every other writer who tries to explain life in scientific terms: Intelligence is a self organizing entity and every cell evolved is only intelligence having a conversation with itself. Whether your word game tosses in the word "quantum" or not doesn't change much. What a solipsistic thought; what a solipsistic world. I wonder if his readers who actually experienced the oneness Deepak speaks of wouldn't, after awhile, go insane?
To Live To Eternity..........2005-12-13
How would it feel to live forever; could you feel young when your body looks old. Your body is aging beyond your control because it has been programmed to live out the rules of collective conditioning. What you need is the body/mind connection. Beginning at age 30, the average human body starts to come unhinged: wrinkles appear, skin loses tone and freshness, muscles sag, fat catches up with muscle, eyesight and hearing taper off. As the bones thin and become brittle and break easily, stamina and endurance decline. You just can't do the things you are used to doing. To transform the patterns of the past, you must know what they are made of and how to stop the progress of deterioration.
We use basic emotions controlled by hormones. "Without the feeling, there is no hormone; without the hormone, there is no feeling. ...there is no pain without nerve signals to transmit pain; there is no relief from pain without endorphins to block the signals. In body-mind medicine, wherever thought goes, a chemical goes with it." Thus, mind and body are inseparable one. Life unfolds as DNA imparts its coded intelligence to its active twin, RNA, which in turn "goes out into the cell and imparts bits of intelligence to thousands of enzymes, which then use their specific bit of intelligence to make proteins."
Medicine has used the mind-body connection for healing; defeating pain is a good example, or merely learning to moderate the chronic pain. "If we could effectively trigger the intention not to age, the body would carry it out automatically." Awareness makes a huge difference, as you can control what you know is happening. If you can free your mind not to relive the past or try to control the future, a space is opened for a completely new experience -- "the experience of ageless body and timeless mind."
Even in the make-believe world of television, age is the issue. In "The West Wing" the fictional president has to go, they say, because the real one is limited to two four-year terms (and he's had the Oval office for seven years already) but the producers of the program are after a younger audience. Of the two possible choices between a 69 year-old male and a Latin fiftish male, it will be younger to play like he lives in the White House. "Our past intentions can be changed and reawakened at any time. Long before you get old, you can prevent such losses by consciously programming your mind to remain youthful, using the power of your intention."
More recent books by Dr. Chopra include PEACE IS THE WAY: BRINGING WAR AND VIOLENCE TO AN END IN OUR TIME, THE COSMIC MIND AND SUBMANIFEST ORDER OF BEING and THE BOOK OF SECRETS: UNLOCKING THE HIDDEN DIMENSIONS OF YOUR LIFE.

I HAVE GIVEN THIS BOOK TO ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS.......2006-04-29
This is the essential book to have. I have made almost every recipe and they all turned out soooo good. Make sure you get a very good quality grill pan like All-Clad. Even the friends I have who did not cook before now can because of this book. One pan cooking was never better!
You know what I like in a cookbook? RECIPES........2006-02-01
This cookbook was something of a waste--glad I got it used. The used copy I got still had the Pottery Barn sticker on the back, which comes as no surprise--I don't think that the author of this book intended to have it actually serve as a guide to cooking with a grill pan. Rather, it's a glossy throwaway publication that would look great tucked in to a gift box along with a new grill pan.
This book is full of photos...and big chapter headers...and white space...but very few actual recipes. Also, there's nothing really "grill pan specific" about them; it's really more of a "barbeque substitute" sort of thing. Nor is it a guide to one-pot cooking with a grill pan, which is sort of what I was hoping for. I really don't see myself making much of what's listed in this cookbook; if I wanted to get a million other pots and pans dirty I wouldn't bother hauling out the grill pan.
Great book for anyone who really cooks.......2004-01-30
This is a great cookbook because of it's variety and simplicity. It has a wide range of receipes (appetizers and main dishes; seafood, vegetables, and meats) that are not overwhelmingly complex. Most require readily available ingredients. It's not overly basic, but simple enough to use everyday; unlike some cookbooks that are targeted to someone who can afford to be in the kitchen all day.
I you want something different for supper.......2003-12-29
This cookbook gives you some different ideas for supper. Alot of the recipes are healthy. If you like seafood, this book is for you.
JAMEE RUTH IS A STAR !!!.......2003-08-21
I met Jamee Ruth at a book signing in New York and she is amazing!! I bought both of her books, this one and MIX IT UP!, and have just ordered more for gifts. She is not only an incredible writer she is absolutely gorgeous! What an inspiration to see a chef and author that looks like a model straight out of Vogue. And so friendly you want to go to her house for dinner. Jamee said she is almost finished with another book-I can't wait!!! Her writing is so easy to follow, she really is an expert teacher. If you ever hear that she is doing a book signing go and see her-I wish she had her own show so I could see her and learn from her everyday!
