Book Description
“He would never leave us.”
Just like that, business investigator Callie Webber finds herself involved in the life of a young wife and mother whose husband has disappeared. . . possibly the victim of foul play.
“I won’t go away until my husband comes back,” Luisa said, her face threatening to crumble into tears once again.
“Your husband left you?” I asked.
“No,” Luisa said, sniffling. “He didn’t leave. Something happened to him. And we’ll stay here until we find out what that was and where he is!”
Callie has come to the beautiful Smoky Mountains hoping to award a million–dollar grant to the charity set up in her late husband’s honor. But in the search for a missing migrant working, a body is discovered, which puts the grant on hold and her new romance with her mysterious boss in peril. Trusting in God, Callie forges steadily ahead through a mire of clues that lead her deeper and deeper into danger.

TLA.......2007-09-04
Like Mindy Starns Clark as a writter and enjoyed this book. Hard to put down.
Books are a dime a dozen....but this one is quite good!!.......2006-07-07
As I sit here and reflect on this book, I'm amazed that Ms. Clark can tie together so many story lines in one book, and still have the finished product be so well put together, and really, an all-around inspiring read. The problem with most mysteries, I feel, is either the plot lines are nothing new and interesting, or they have so much blood and gore that you get either lost by the end of the book, or you become disgusted. Neither is the case with Ms. Clark's book. While it is number 3 in a series of 5 books, the pre-existing relationships are well explained, so this book can be read as a stand-alone, as I did.
Callie Webber is an investigator for J.O.S.H.U.A. foundation, which supplies grants to non-profit start-ups. In this novel, her assignment is to return to her hometown and review her former in-laws company, M.O.R.E. Callie is a bit nervous about this, as she hasn't returned to her hometown for several years, evr since her husband was killed in a tragic accident. While she has grieved and begun loving again, she's a bit hesitant to return and see her in'laws, as well as the canbin where she spent so much time with her husband. Happily, when she arrives she is instantly comforted, as she sees that the cabin she spent so many happy moments at has been completely redocarated by the leasing agency, so she relaxes right away.
Callie goes to begin investigating M.O.R.E., and in quickly immersed in many mysteries. Why is migrant worker Luisa the target of so many crimes? Stink bombs, a murder, attempted burning of her home, and many other tragedies are befalling this poor woman. Also, there is the puzzling question - what happened to Luisa's husband? He was a fine, hard worker who loved his family. Now, a letter has arrived from New York, supposedly from him, saying he was there. Why on earth would a settled family man up and leave? Luisa suspects foul play, and soon, Callie also does. Many more smaller mysteries are intertwined throughout this book, but, at the end, I came away feeling that all my questions were answered, and Ms. Clark successfully tied up all the loose ends throughout the book. I would recommend this book if you love a good mystery, and are fed up with the gore found throughout so many of today's books.
Another great book by this author! .......2006-01-30
I love Mindy Starns Clark! This is another wonderful addition to this series. The characters are so great and the depth of the story is astonishing! I love to see the slow progression of Callie and Tom's relationship!
Intrigue in the Smokies.......2005-05-12
Callie Webber is coming home - sort of. Her latest assignment for the J.O.S.H.U.A. Foundation is to investigate MORE, a non-profit set up by her in-laws in her late husband's memory. This is the first time Callie has been back to visit his death, and she's a little nervous about how it will go.
She's just relaxing at an impromptu family reunion when an explosion at the church shocks them all. It's just some stink bombs, but the body nearby is definitely dead. It's just the latest in a series of crimes targeted at Luisa, a migrant who stayed past harvest season because her husband is missing. It doesn't take Callie long to realize that these events directly relate to her investigation of MORE, so she begins to investigate. Will she be able to track down a migrant missing 6 months? Who is behind the vandalism aimed at Luisa? And who killed that John Doe in the church parking lot?
I was once again thrilled to be in Callie's presence. She's a great character I've really come to care about. Unlike the last two in the series, I didn't feel the second half had quite the breakneck pace, but I did feel the novel was more evenly plotted overall. There were still several twists I saw coming only a few pages before Callie, and the ending was certainly a surprise.
With each book, I'm more and more glad I found this author. If you haven't discovered Mindy Starns Clark, pick up the first book today. You'll be very glad you did.
Can't I give this book more than 5 stars?.......2003-08-03
This is my 3rd Mindy Starns Clark book and the 3rd time I dropped everything to read a book.
(The 1st time was with "Penny", during my 25th anniversary trip to Bermuda, which did not sit well with my husband).
This is a great pass-along book; I have already passed "Penny" and "Nickels" along to my mother, an aunt, and a cousin.
They have all been anxiously awaiting the arrival of "Dime", in fact, my mother has been asking me almost weekly "when are you going to get me that next book?".
It's too bad Mindy doesn't write faster, although nothing would get done at my house - and I'm sure, at her home as well- I could read one of her books every day!
We're all anxiously awaiting the next book of the series and especially looking forward to seeing Callie find happiness with Tom. My mother is a self-confessed romance novel addict (has read thousands of them) and I never thought I could get her to open a book of another genre. My own mystery experience has been more on the line of Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes.
"The Million Dollar Mysteries" have bridged our literature gap and we are delighted to share them with each other, the people we know, and now, through this review, to the reading public.
Buy it - Read it - Enjoy it - You'll love it!
Thanks, Twnkls28

Book Description
From its beginnings in 1892 to the present day, the tiny law firm of Wolf & Wolf has rubbed shoulders with a fabulous cast of characters, ranging from William Faulkner to Tyrone, who insisted on "copping a plea" because he was the regular right fielder on the Lorton Prison baseball team. But no character was more fabulous than Jack, in whose cause the author learned the humility expressed by the title of this book.

The Shop on Blossom Street.......2007-08-14
I liked reading this book. The author must have talked to someone with cancer because many of the feelings that I had during the three years I battled cancer were the same as Lynda. It was predictable. You knew everyone would have a happy ending to their story, which is not a bad thing but not realistic.
A Great relaxing Read.......2007-07-27
I thought this was a wonderful book. The author did an excellent job of developing the characters in such a way that made them seem so real to me. I read it at the beach last week and could not have asked for a better read as I soaked up the sun and just relaxed. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to all my friends.
Knitting or not.......2007-07-27
This book and the others relating to The Shop on Blossom Street, was like making new friends and escaping to that shop for just a while.Although I do not knit, almost makes you want to. Excellant
Where did I put those knitting needles?.......2007-07-14
A quick and easy read, with believable characters... which one were/are you? I found myself accurately predicting the ending too early for there to be much suspense, yet I enjoyed the stories of each of these ladies and their friendships. I used to knit... maybe I will again... with a group of ladies after reading this first book of the knitting series.
Great Book, New Shop.......2007-07-13
I have read the first two books in the series "The Shop on Blossom Street". Great book. Good Stories. By the time I was done I thought I would like to learn to knit. Recently in the last several month, I came upon a yarn shop in a nearby town. I decided to check it out. When I went in it was cute and had a table in the middle of the shop. The girl told me after she read the book she knew she had to open a shop. I talked to the girl and she ask if I had read "The Shop on Blossom Street" and I said yes. Her shop is designed after that book. PERFECT!
Without knowing me the girl ask if I have read the second book. I said no and she grabbed it off the shelf and handed it to me. It is called "A Good Yarn"....the name of the shop. It was also a very very good book. There is one more in that series. "Back to the Shop on Blossom Street". I do not have that yet.
So, when I took the book back to the "YARNS R US" shop, the girl handed me a card to see if I wanted to learn to knit. I am going to the class this weekend. 7/14/07. What's really neat is that there is a series of knitting instruction books designed from "The Shop on Blossom Street".
Really neat. The socks are in there whick is from the second book.
The sweaters from the frist book are there too.
Buy the books, neat clean reading!!

loved these patterns.......2007-07-09
i loved how the pattern book reflected the story that goes by the same name. the pictures were beautiful and the step-by-step instructions made me feel, as a beginner, that i could produce these same treasures. after reading each book, i am now anxious to start working on the same projects that lydia held classes in.
the corresponding patterns books are a must and i highly recommend them. they will extend the stories that you have read.
It's fun to knit along with the story..........2006-10-29
If you are an avid knitter and you are reading this book you may find yourself wanting to see the patterns and maybe trying them out yourself. This is the perfect complement to the novel as it lays out the patterns for all the items the ladies are making in the book. I've done one of the blankets so far and it was fairly easy to follow the pattern.
Need more basic detailed instructions.......2006-08-02
Since I'm a beginner, this didn't have enough detailed information to start a project. The illustrations are beautiful though. When I get a little bit more basic knitting, I'm sure this book will come in handy.
Both delighted and disappointed.......2005-12-11
When I got this book and paged through it, I was delighted with the baby blankets and I've decided to knit several of them. I was also excited because I love the "Yarn Shop" series. Debbie Macomber captures the spirit of a Local Yarn Shop beautifully.
So was I bitterly disappointed when I looked up the recommended yarns for the project. These are yarns that are available in large chain stores, not in local yarn shops. I can appreciate that people are interested in knitting affordably, but there could at least be a mix of yarns. Much of what I loved about the original books is the knitting community that takes place in a local yarn shop. Having ALL of the recommended yarns in the pattern books come from chain stores betrays the premise of the stories. The stories could not have taken place anywhere else, yet the companion books send you to buy yarn from the very stores that are driving small shops out of business.
Knit Along with Debbie Macomber.......2005-09-12
I love her knitting novels. This book with the patterns from her first knitting book is super. Some of the patterns are a little challenging for a new knitter, but there are a few that are reasonably easy. The book is in an attractive format with very nice full color pictures of the projects. There are quite a few patterns included along with some knitting instructions. This is really worth the money.
Product Description
This one is a large print, but not that large. Debbie Macomber writes stories about women. This one starts in a yarn store.

Do yourself a favor and read this........2007-08-27
There is surprisingly very little clear information out there on the effects of caffeine on the body when I initially started searching on-line. I was what is considered a "moderate" coffee drinker - one to two strong mugs in the morning for about 20 years. I have not had caffeine for a month now and I am quite amazed about the positive changes in my body, energy level and mood. I read this book after I stopped, but I wish someone had given it to me years ago. Caffeine is a drug and for those who jump on the defensive bandwagon if someone just brings up the idea it may not be good for you, take a deep breath. All he is suggesting is that some people (like myself) may have more sensitivity to it and owe it to ourselves to see what happens if we stop. The other important point is that there are major industries with HUGE vested interests in keeping people addicted to their products. He raises points that should be discussed and I wish more people would. Like a previous reviewer, I think the book should be updated and wish there was a current web-site out there to help inform people. I have ordered another book which looks interesting - The Truth about Caffeine - and will see how that ranks with Caffeine Blues. So, for anyone wondering - do yourself a favor read the book and see what happens if you get off the caffeine rollercoaster. In my case, my sleep is more restful than I ever recall having and no more peaks and valleys of energy during the day. And for those worried about gaining weight....well, I am actually losing weight and don't find myself wanting to snack nearly as much. Go figure.
my favorite book.......2007-08-01
This is now my favorite book. I don't think I've ever learned so much from a book before. It has changed my life and the lives of many others now. I recommend this book to all of my clients if they would like to learn more from our sessions. Enjoy your caffeine-free tea! ;)

If you thought Caffeine was Safe: Think Again.......2007-06-09
Overall, this is an extremely well written and meticulously documented explanation of why and how caffeine affects you. The depth and breadth of negative effects are startling and frightening.
The main purpose of the book is to empower the reader to make informed choices about caffeine consumption. Unfortunately, while the scientific documentation is there, most of this information is not widely known from mainstream media sources. There is a lot of information in this book - some may skim over certain sections, and enjoy the rich details in areas of greater interest.
The author clearly hopes that many readers will follow in the footsteps of the many people in his practice who are enjoying much better health after reducing caffeine intake.
Reader: Inform Thyself!
A response to some of the reviews:
* Some complain that the book is overly negative. To those I ask: "Should a book on smoking give equal weight and time to the positive and negative effects of smoking"?
* One claimed that the author misused science, but in offering no evidence, the claim is unfounded.
* Many reviewers claim that small amounts of caffeine are harmless. We who love coffee are strongly motivated to believe this - even if science says otherwise. Cherniske explains that studies suggesting that caffeine is fine, are often misleading. They either use shoddy research methods, or use very low quantities (which are much less harmful) or are conducted with a carefully chosen set of people so that the negative effects do not show up.
* One reviewer remarked that Cherniske is now the president of an MLM company selling junk. I wonder if they speak from personal experience. I know of many people (including myself) who consumed that `junk' for just a week or two, and found that they spontaneously stopped drinking coffee. The body seems to find caffeine undesirable when it gets the nutrition it needs to generate energy and mental alertness the old fashioned way (without causing stress).
* Yes the author has a very zealous style which puts some readers off and probably undermines his otherwise valid points. However, one might forgive this zeal, given the many people in his practice who feel so much better off the bean.
* I would also like to see a revised edition with new research results taken into account, some of which show benefits of caffeine. One must be careful to distinguish between benefits of coffee and of caffeine. A recent study reported in the New Scientist (May 2007) showed that drinking many cups a day of coffee significantly reduces the risk to gout - but the benefits derive equally from decaf.
The author did put out a later book called The Metabolic Plan; it offers a more comprehensive approach to staying healthy longer, that includes some of the material in The Caffeine Blues and probably has updated references.
I strongly recommend this book. If you still want to ingest caffeine, so be it. At least you are informed. Hopefully you can escape the side effects of caffeine by
* feeling relaxed, experiencing little stress and being in a consistently good mood
* sleeping restfully and deeply every night, feeling great in the morning
* having good concentration, and consistent energy that does not depend on when you had your last cup of coffee
* your digestive system can absorb plenty of calcium, manganese and other important nutrients with no ulcers, acid indigestion heartburn, bloating/gas, diarrhea or colitis
* having a regular heartbeat with good blood pressure
* having youthful moist skin, with no rashes
* experiencing few headaches, dizziness or ringing in your ears
* no blood sugar swings
* your bowel remains blissfully non-irritable
* your sex life is healthy and vibrant
If this does not describe you, then you might try getting off the bean.
effective advice.......2007-05-19
If you drink a lot of [...] daily, especially coffee, you should read this. Just switching from coffee to regular tea has helped me massively--less [...]. Less heart palpitations, much more energy(I can immediately swim far more laps) and more. Bothersome situations now seem petty. Psychologically you will see that petty things are indeed petty. Those who have an immediate reaction against thie information are almost certainly addicted to [...]--I understand, I am too. Withdraw gradually and you will see your negativity is the reflex of the addict. And good luck, do it! As far as the author's credentials: his corresspondence university diploma is wallpaper as far as I am concerned. But the information in the book works. I don't have a degree in nutrition either, but I know it works.
The quick way to better health.......2007-03-09
This book really changed my health. I read it from front to back without putting it down. Then I took his advice and stopped drinking coffee. After three months, I felt like a new person. I used to have anxiety attacks and upset stomach on a regular basis. I stopped taking ALL medications and no longer need to take antacids for my stomach. It has been six months since I stopped drinking coffee and sodas.
If you injest caffiene in any form, I suggest you read this book. Take his advice and try his program for three or four months. I know you will feel better. If not, resume your current habits.
Here is to your health.
