What goes on behind the news is the news in Bill O'Reilly's first novel, Those Who Trespass: A Novel of Murder and Television. The engaging thriller centers around a string of murders being carried out in almost ritualistic fashion against the major players of Global News Network (GNN) and miscellaneous others involved in the television news industry. First it's a loutish White House correspondent who gets it with a silver spoon in Martha's Vineyard. Next comes a vice president of the network. As the list grows, so does the pressure on police to stop the killer before he strikes again. Enter Tommy O'Malley, a touch New York detective who has his own ideas about how to keep the streets clean. His work--and life--is complicated by the persistence of a charming young reporter named Ashley Van Buren. In her "Crimetime" column, she dishes a full serving of innuendo and speculation to an audience hungry for just such fare. O'Malley looks like a terrific source to her, and he has to admit she looks pretty good herself.
The real story in Those Who Trespass, however, is that "the way it is," as Walter Cronkite would have said, is not a very nice way at all. O'Reilly, a veteran of Fox and an Emmy winner himself, reveals the skullduggery that goes on under the anchor desk and on the other side of the camera: correspondents "bigfooting" others' stories, young climbers doing anything to secure the anchor seat, and ratings outfits fixing the game to suit themselves. Once you've read this, you will understand the part of the news that's not fit to print.

Can't put this book down.......2007-08-01
Would never read a murder mystery, but I read this one! It is more real than fiction and a fascinating story. You won't be disappointed. Great story line.
The Truth Shall Set You Laughing.......2007-05-04
When I read Al Franken refer to this book of Bill O'Reilly's, I laughed, almost not believing it could be true. Upon finding that it is, I laugh more; the truth, this time, is a joke: the absurdity of O'Reilly's reality, which could be called O'Reiallity (a parallel universe, we must assume), is enough to fill a head with happy sounds.
Unexpected.......2007-02-18
Well, I should have listened to the majority of the reviews posted on Amazon about this book. It was terrible. To me, the worst parts were the terrible language and explicit descriptions of sexual encounters. The sex was unexpected; this is supposedly a suspense book, so sex isn't really needed. But beyond the offensive content, the book just wasn't written well. The story never really grabs your attention, and the characters are dry and stereotypical. To conclude, take the advice of most reviewers and skip this book. O'Reilly's a smart man, but he needs to stick with news and leave fiction to the experts!
Beyond bathroom literature.......2006-12-27
This may actually be the worst book ever written. There's really not much more to say about it. It's just that bad.
Total Garbage.......2006-09-07
Wow. I wish there was a way to give this steaming heap a rating of NO stars. O'Reilly is good at what he does and he should stick to it. Fiction is clearly not his strong suit. His characters were cardboard cutouts, his dialogue stilted and ludicris, his situations cliched and riddled with stereotypes, and his schizophrenic writing veers betweeen pompous moralizing and salacious hyperventilation. Reading it made me wonder just how sharp this guy's mind really is. If this trash is any indication of O'Reilly's true worldview, he's a sick, sad man indeed.

Pathetic. Better than reading the book is to hear him (in his own pompous voice) read for the audio edition. OMGoodness.

Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
The Fey are a pretty ruthless, conquering race, and having picked their next target, attack. However, the hierarchy of their victim manages to delay long enough to come up with a discovery, that the Fey have certain devastating vulnerabilities, and using those, drive them back.
The rest of the book is raiding and politics, as they try to come to some sort of political solution involving a marraige between the two leaderships.
backwards words.......2005-07-12
I read the entire series and the next series totally out of context. I read book 6 first and it made me want to read the prior book. I then read book 5 and decided to read the 4 book series. only no one I knew had the book in order so I ordered it and book 4 came first. then book 3 then book 2 and finally the fey book 1 came in. It is like watching a movie in rewind and i enjoy that better than the next person. Now I will go back through and read it from beginning to end. Believe it or not, I have read book 5 and 6 three times already. The Black Queen and Black King are marvelous books and the series makes you understand the book the Black King. Very moving. And it reminds me so much of my mother and her family. Even tho, many of the old people are now dead, but they were in my mind the type of people the Fey are. I miss their sight and strangeness and habits that remind me a lot of the fey and rocaans. You can actually become members of this book. if you have lived as I have lived.
The appeal of cool bad guys.......2005-06-15
The Fey are a ruthless, bloodthirsty, magic-wielding, conquering people. The people of Blue Isle, the next on the list of places to add to the Fey Empire, are peaceful, religious, and have never even encountered magic. The Fey expect to grind the Isle into the ground in a day. Instead, through luck or coincidence, the Islanders discover that the holy water used in their religious rituals kills Fey on contact, in a particularly gruesome fashion. The battle shifts, and the Fey end up fleeing, going into hiding in an invisible fort in the middle of the Island.
What follows are years of skirmishes between the Islanders and the Fey, who are led by the son and granddaughter of their Black King, Rugar and Jewel. The Islanders' king, Alexander, is forced to change his entire political outlook from a peacetime footing to winning a war, while his son, Prince Nicholas, finds out that war isn't as glorious as he thought. Meanwhile, the religious leaders responsible for making the holy water that is now used as a weapon have to reconcile their peaceful religion with the horrific things their water does to the Fey.
This is one of those books where no one comes through unscathed, and sometimes the characters you like the best are the bad guys. The writing leaves something to be desired sometimes, and Rusch has a tendency to repeat herself in an effort to pound certain concepts in, but overall, an enjoyable book with an ending that makes you anxious to hear more.
(Important Note: While books 1,2,3, and 5 are still available, book 4, The Resistance, is out of print and generally unavailable. I read the series without it and was able to follow it fairly well, but if you're the type who absolutely cannot read a series out of order, don't even start The Fey.)
The Fey series, by Kristine Kathryn Rusch.......2004-05-15
Ok, so this series is long (5 books 500-700 pages long, plus sequel series 2 books 500 pages long), but it's really good! My sister is even reading it, and she 'never' reads books I recommend. It's so interesting - this author, besides these books, only writes Star Wars books, which is really sad (for me), but that's OK.
These books are really good. They are fantasy.
The Fey are a war people who are also magic people - well, most of them. There are some Fey called Red Caps, who don't have magic (thus are short), and they are considered servants pretty much among the Fey. The Fey are tall, dark-skinned people, who are very proud, brave, and intent on conquering the world. The leading force of all the Fey is what is called the Black Throne. It's a line of kings and queens who have what is called Black Blood. And usually the heir is the oldest child of the throne, because killing among Blood is not good - for anybody. It causes what is called the Blood, where everyone turns on people. It happened once, and only a tenth of the Fey survived. They weren't a very large force then, and (around) 3000 people died. Now they rule half the world - preventing causing the Blood is on the mind of every Fey.
That's just killing them outright - if you send an assassin, that counts. But if you perhaps send him somewhere to fight when you know he'll lose and he dies - hey, it's not your fault. Which is what the Black King did.
His name is Rugad, and he sent his son to a place called the Blue Isle. He didn't think his son was worthy of the throne. But what he didn't want was his granddaughter, Jewel, going with him. Her brothers were absolutely not going to become the next rulers (Fey live a long time).
This is the Fey, who want to take over the world. They would probably have succeeded, with their Beast Riders, Dreamriders, Infantry, Domestics, Wisps, Echanters, and Spell Warders. Except for the Blue Isle. Rugad's son, Rugar, did get defeated. But to an extent Rugad didn't expect. The Islanders (as they are called) have a strange magic, that most of them don't know they have. Among them is a hidden place, a place of magic. And they are the most formidable force the Fey will ever encounter, with their Poison (Holy Water) and other religious relics.
I won't tell you any more, because - who knows? - you might read this series. And I wouldn't want to spoil it for you.
This series covers all things - religion, war, prejudices, love, mystery, and the true meaning (and wrong meanings) of family ties. True, it doesn't have much humor, but you will find yourself smiling at certain moments when something strikes you as funny. If you like fantasy, and long stories, I suggest you read the Fey books and the Black Throne books by Kristine Kathryn Rusch.
Be prepared to love them.
An entrancing and truly exiting book.......2004-04-12
Originally, I had picked up the second book of the series by chance. I read the first few chapters and fell in love with the book. It was soem time later when I was browsing for a new reading book at the library and I reconized the title. My consensus is that the first book of the series is as great as any other. The characters are well developed and their personalities are mulit-faceted. Kristine Kathryn Rusch shows her ample capability of writing when she wrote the storyline. For most of the book she holds you in suspense and keeps you guessing at what will happen to the mysterious race known as the Fey. Even though the book skips around from person to person, most of the attention is centered on the Islander prince Nicholas and the Fey princess Jewel, yet Kritine doesn't leave her other characters underdevealoped. Overall, this was an excellent book with lots of plot twists, suspense, and imagination and it's only downfall is that the book starts off slow.

Socail anxiety effects the quality of life of many human beings. Cognitive thinking.......2006-07-12
This is the first Cognitive thinking book I've read I found it very helpful and it really works. You have to do your part. You can't JUST read it. Its very interesting book too. If you'd like to just become more self-aware. There are other reasons why people seem rude or what not.
Somewhat helpful.......2006-04-04
This book can be used toghether with therapy (I recommend Dr Richards selp help series that you can buy on line). The book does not teach you how to change your negative thinking, it only teaches you how to create a hierachy for social situations to work with. It is only helpful if combined with other books/therapies.
this book is so self explanatory.......2005-06-27
This book was really a waste of time. When I was done reading, I was no better off than when I started. The beginning is really interesting in that it describes what kind of feelings go on inside the mind of a shy person. I thought I was the only one in the world who felt these things, and it was interesting to see them expressed by someone else in a book. So I continued to read on to the parts where they tell you how to get better. It said to try stuff like writing in a journal every day and to "think positive", "be assertive", and "practice making small talk". Like I didn't consider that on my own! This book really did not need to be written. What they could have done was just take the beginning of the book and sell it on its own as a short story or something, since it is the only useful or interesting part. After the first part of the book, it's basically telling you to go see a psychiatrist or get medication or both. It starts to get repetitive and is basically filled with the same useless suggestions that any person could have thought of, but they keep re-wording them throughout the book. So save yourself some money and don't buy this book. If you're interested in reading the opening part of the book, see if you can find it in a library.
I had social anxiety, now completely cured with these books.......2003-02-14
I was trying to think of a way to help everyone out there who has been dealing with the same feelings that I have been. I have tried everything that people recommend for social anxiety, many exposures, going to programs, numerous therapists. If I had known even two months ago that today I would feel at ease in many situations I never would have believed it. The two books that will change you noticably and permanently are both "Feeling Good", and "Psycho-cybernetics". I had tried everything out there I could get my hands on, and then these two books were a godsend. After a week into "Feeling Good" you will actually start feeling like the person you want to be, and a month into it you will feel SO much better. I recommend that after that go directly into "Psycho-Cybernetics". The introduction says that he thought his book would never sell because nobody would believe his claims that he can give you the personality you want through visualization, and I thought it was hype. Then after doing it for a few days I was amazed. I have only used this book a week, and am already very much better. You dont need the therapists, drugs, alcohol or the bible to feel better, just get these two books, be committed to them. Give them a month, and if you change half as much as I have you will be very glad you did. You dont need to sit inside worried, these books will make you the person you want to be.

Book Description
Few ingredients are as intimidating to the home cook as duck. But with the guidance of award-winning author James Peterson, any home chef can learn to prepare this incredibly versatile, flavorful bird.
The Duck Cookbook is the only complete guide to duck. With his signature style, Peterson explains the different varieties available and the best cooking methods for each part of the duck. Chapters begin with lessons on a single cooking technique-from sautéing to smoking-then move on to specific dishes such as soups, salads, and confit.
Peterson's detailed instructions ensure that readers will have the proper skills to handle any kind of duck preparation. The book's 65 recipes range from straightforward, delicious whole roasted duck and sautéed duck breasts (with a variety of sauces) to sophisticated terrines and mousses. Braised Duck Legs with Red Cabbage and Juniper Berries and Duck Confit Spring Rolls are among the many tempting highlights. Sidebars feature detailed instructions for cutting up a whole duck, making duck stocks, and more.

The fastest way to master cooking duck.......2007-02-13
I was intrigued with the idea of cooking duck breast, and after I tried and failed, I figured I could benefit from learning as much as possible about the different ways to cook duck. Since I knew how to cook a whole duck, I figured it would not be difficult to cook just the breast, but failed miserably. Consequently, I set out to look for a cookbook that would show me all the secrets of cooking duck.
This book not only did that, but it helped me understand what I did wrong. The recipe I used before purchasing the book was from Spain. Over there, is more common to buy a duck which is smaller than the one you get in the U.S., so I should have cooked at a higher temperature and a bit longer.
I recommend it to those who have never cooked duck before, as well as to those that are interested in gastronomic adventures beyond typical duck recipes.
Ducks, Ducks, Ducks, Ducks, Ducks.......2003-12-25
The title tells it all. This book is all about cooking duck using most techniques common to other types of meats plus at least one which is unique to duck and other fatty fowl. The nine techniques / preparations chapters are:
Sauteing
Braising
Roasting
Confit - a French cooking and preservation method unique, I believe, to ducks and geese
Smoking
Curing
Soups
Salads
Terrines and Mousses
It's interesting that while poaching is a common cooking technique for chicken, the technique is not included here for duck. This technique is largely replaced by the confit method. This is just one clue to the fact that a duck is different from a chicken and methods which work for one will not work for the other. The biggest difference is the level of fat in a duck's skin (but not in it's meat). This is simply due to the fact that ducks can fly and chickens cannot and ducks spend a lot of time in the water. This also explains why almost all duck meat is dark, more similar to a chicken's legs than to it's breast meat.
The difference between ducks and chickens is the main thing which makes this book valuable in itself, especially since many of the techniques appear to be unique to duck cookery. A second great value to the book is that it spells out the right way to cook to avoid fatty flesh if your primary interest is to avoid the saturated fat without loosing out on the great taste of duck.
Aside from the confit method, one of the best values derived from duck is the high quality of the broth one can make from duck, in many ways as valuable and as flavorful as stocks derived from veal. The only drawback is that to make a decent amount of duck broth, you need 12 carcasses or equivalent amount of leftover pieces.
This book is by far the most complete collection of duck recipes I could find. The next closest sources are the Cooks Illustrated book entitled 'Chicken', with about 28 pages of duck recipes and 'Beard on Birds' by James Beard which has 19 pages devoted to duck, including many of the recipes included in Peterson's book. In fact, it is a sign of the times that Beard's book, published in 1979 (and probably date back at least 20 to30 years before that time) have several recipes on wild duck while Peterson deals exclusively with the two most common domesticated duck sources, the Long Island (or Pekin) duck and the Mullard duck, the most common source of cryovac packed duck breast.
Comparing Peterson to Beard, one finds that while Beard has good recipes, equal to his reputation in American culinary education, Peterson has superior recipes and excellently detailed techniques and explanations for the duck specific methods. Worthy of his book on culinary techniques, the photographic instructions on cutting raw duck and carving roasted birds are impeccable.
Peterson's work has placed him high in the ranks of American cookbook authors and this book is a worthy addition to his canon. In past books, I have occasionally found a bit of less than perfect sequencing of steps, so that one must be very careful to read his recipes through and think them through before beginning, but I find none of that clumsiness here. His impeccible descriptions of a sometimes demanding technique are invaluable.
If I collected cookbooks for no other reason than to be an easy source of recipes, this is the type of book I would most quickly buy. Adding to the values is the selection of excellent oversize paged photographs of completed dishes joining the great color photos illustrating the techniques.
Duck has an aura of luxury about it for a very reasonable price (as long as you leave off the foie gras). This book can be a great access to a new culinary direction. Recommended. Just be sure when selecting recipes that the type of duck matches the recipe. Recipes for fatty ducks may give poor results with leaner birds.

Eat what you shoot.......2001-12-18
If I'm not going to eat it I won't shoot it. This book, given to me as a gift, has increased my enjoyment of harvesting game for the table because I am now certain that I can find an excellent recipe to savor the product of my efforts in the field. I have even expanded the types of game I hunt in order to be able to try some particularly enticing recipes. The instructions are easy to follow and clearly given. I have used recipes from this book to prepare meals for friends who hadn't previously eaten wild game before and never have had to store any leftovers in the fridge! I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to get as much pleasure from the eating as from the hunting.
