The book is about two boys named Jackson and Goat, and they have seven treasure hunts. Jackson has a bigger sister and likes to bother her.They also sometimes bury treasure so they can have fun finding it later.The seven chapters are very neat and cool. Chapter four is called The Hunt for the Missing Treasure. Read to find out what treasure they find. I would say that other kids my age will like to read this book it is funny and they will get a blast out of it.

My son and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. My son is entering third grade, but is struggling with reading at the level he should be at. This book is aimed for his age, but is still an easy reader. It helped give him the confidence he needs as it is aimed towards third and fourth graders and he could read it! Thank you Betsy Byars for realizing not all children read at the same level, but still need books appropriate for their age to keep their interest. The Seven Treasure Hunts is about two boys, Jackson and Goat, who use maps and clues to find eachothers treasures. Each boy takes a turn hiding stuff of their own and gives the other either a map or clue to find it. Of course things don't always go according to plans. There is the stolen chocolate popsicle which will make kids want to keep reading to find out what happened with it. And then dealing with Goats sister, Rachael a.k.a the ogre, will leave kids laughing. It is written with much humor for young and old alike. My son read this out loud to me and we both really enjoyed it. Thank you, thank you Betsy Byars.

Exciting page turner, dumb ending .......2007-09-26
This was my first Joe Pickett book. I found a lot of things to like about this book. The detailed, you-are-there veracity of the setting reminded me of the best of Tony Hillerman. I also loved the characters. Joe Pickett and his family seemed so real I felt I could reach out and touch them.
The central mystery here has to do with cattle mutilations which horrifically make their way to humans. While the subject was gruesome, C.J. Box structured the mystery in an exciting way that kept me turning the pages. I did solve the mystery before Joe did, which disappointed me a little. It's not something I try to do when I read a mystery, and I like to be surprised.
The resolution of this story was also very disappointing and felt rushed and ill-considered. While the identities of the killer(s) were telegraphed well before the ending, the solution was laden with loose ends, which were then explained by a combination of supernatural phenomena, New Age mysticism, and a dollop of corny old "Tales of the Unexpected" melodrama.
This wasn't at all what I had expected from the wry, realistic, and interesting first half of the book. From reading the reviews here, I think I will give C.J. Box and Joe Pickett another chance. It appears that "Trophy Hunt" was a misfire, but there are better books in which to follow more adventures of Joe Pickett, his families, and life on the Wyoming range.
A Little Too Dry.......2007-07-31
I won't review the plot here or try to capture it's essence. But I will mention a point I don't see touched on in the reviews that preceded this -- and that's how Pickett, in this story, seems like a ball bouncing around a pinball machine. He doesn't really seem to take control of the investigation. Yes, he's only on a task force and yes, he has "issues" with some of the other task force members -- but he never seems that concerned about the whole situation until things start really getting out of control at the end. The scene where he confronts a man who he thinks might be behind the weirdness is very touching and shows Pickett's terrific humanity but once the end came rolling around I felt a bit cheated. In the end, I wanted more effort and passion and outrage. This left me feeling just a bit dry ... not CJ's best. Readers who enjoy CJ Box, however, might also enjoy an outdoor adventure in a neighboring state: Antler Dust

C.J. Box has again delivered an attention getting story with enough convoulution to make it extremely interesting and keep one's attention.
Not up to the first 3.......2006-03-19
I agree with the previous reviewers. I have really enjoyed the first 3 books in the series, but this one veers off the tracks after the first half. I really had to slog through to finish it, as things kept getting either more absurd or more inexplicable. It's ok to have some mystery in a mystery, but some of the mysteries in this book (e.g. what causes the feelings of uneasiness in Joe and his daughters when they find the mutilated moose, why did Deena send Joe pornographic pictures of herself-and who took them, what was the sheriff's connection to the bad guys?) seem central to the story and are never picked up on at the end to at least offer some hint of the answers. I'm not giving up on Joe Pickett, but he needs a strong comeback next time around.
A bit different, but still enjoyable.......2005-10-15
Slightly different approach than his other stories, but it kept things interesting. As the editorial says, Box touches on issues that affect the region, but he does it in a subtle way that adds to the storyline without hitting you across the head with a message of social justice that too many other authors seem to include in their writing.
I started the Picket novels on recommendation from Amazon after buying the Alex McNight series by Steve Hamilton. Both book series are easy reads that will draw you in before you know it. Not as complex as someone like Ludlum, but very enjoyable for a tired mind after a busy week of work. A good escape from the day to day routine.

This is an excellent book concerning how to do float trips in Alaska and covers many practical aspects of such hunting. It has the added benefit of also being fairly entertaining reading. Only problem is that it's darn hard to find as it's out of print and everyone who has a copy won't let it go, The author would do well to come out with a reprint if a second edition isn't in the works.

What a great book! I plan on moving to AK next year and plan on doing quite a bit of hunting. The book tells you everything you could ever want to know on hunting moose and caribou. After reading the book I felt as if I was ready to be droped off in the Alaskan tundra and start hunting. The book is a must have if you plan on hunting in AK. The book takes you through every step on how to do it your self and keep it afordable.

I highly recommend this book for anyone that has never gone to alaska to hunt moose or caribou...It covers hunting techniques, judging trophies, as well as what to outfit your camp with. I am going to alaska for the first time to hunt this year, I plan on using part of my 75# to bring the book with me!

I am about to embark on my first fly-in, self guided hunt to alaska. This book is an excellent guide for any moose/caribou hunter no matter what your previous experience maybe. The book covers everything you will need to know, you will have every question answered. It is like the author is holding your hand as you are preparing for your trip; its great. The author also gives excellent narratioin of personal grizzley bear encounters and how he dealt with the situation.

Interesting cover photo - boring, useless book........2007-01-13
Unlike any other deer-hunting book I have ever read. Not organized into chapters. Instead, contains many separate descriptions of "hunts" that are one or two pages long. Lists information about each hunt, like what the weather was like, who was hunting, where they stood, where they walked, what they saw, what they shot at, and so on. That is all. No conclusions. No summary. No advice or entertainment.
I realized right away I was not going to enjoy reading the book at all, but I thought perhaps I could develop my skills by studying the contents. Wrong. I threw it into the trash a few days after I bought it.

The book is a series of stories of how Bushman havested some of his bucks. On a map he details how he entered the stand what sign was around and details of the harvest .Normally you can learn alot from this. Bushman leaves out a few minor details. Like on the Saskatckewan hunt he fails to mention bait. I have hunted Saskatchewan many times. Theres no skill involved, how long can you set in -15 degree weather over a bait station and can you make the shot when presented. Most Outfitters hunt the same incuding the ones Bushman hunts with. If he leaves that out he's most likely leaving out details on other hunts. Most if not all the hunts are on high end leases or guided hunts. Theres no reason to waste your money on this.

We agree that this is the best book we have ever read! Our favorite characters are the heroic guard centaurs. The book had really exciting battle scenes that kept us at the edge of our seats. The mythical characters, trolls and beserkers were also very entertaining. We don't always like to read, but we couldn't put this book down. We hope Mr. Gill continues with more books about the centaurs. We would read all of them! This book would also make a great movie!

I've had this book for as long as I can remember (1999!?), and its fun to read over and over again..they use real pictures from the show in the book, the story is great..and its actually one of the episodes from the 1st season.. In a nutshell.

not what I expected.......2006-05-10
It's nothing but an exercise book. I don't need a book to know that exercise is good for me. I'm not sure what I expected but this book wasn't it.
A totally new book, and it really works!.......2005-09-16
I had bought the original Fit or Fat book many years ago, and may have been the only person on the planet who didn't know that Covert Bailey continued to write new books. I bought this one recently, and discovered it is an entirely new book. The basic premise is still there, but everything else is new, like pulling into your driveway and finding a new, bigger house with more rooms on the old foundation. There is lots of additional information, and even the old jokes and illustrations have been replaced by new ones. Some reviewers are apparently annoyed that Covert does not endorse their pet ideas or theories on fitness, but the bottom line is that this book works. I lost fat with the first book before changes in my schedule caused me to neglect exercising for several years -- well, that's lame my excuse anyway. Then I decided to get serious again, and bought the new "ultimate" book and applied it (including wind sprints and weight lifting) and began losing fat again within weeks, and people are noticing! This book is my coach now, and I'm glad I discovered it. I do wish metric equivalents were included (we don't have pounds, inches, or miles where I live) but I can make the conversions easily enough myself.
very practical and understandable.......2004-03-16
Ultimate Fit and Fat is an easy and quick read. Just as he did in his earlier book Smart Exercise, Bailey discusses the importance of exercising over dieting in improving and maintaining one's fitness. The recommendations that he makes regarding exercise are practical and easy to implement. I would strongly recommend this book to people who would like to improve their fitness AND understand the process of improving their health.
Very readable, helpful guide to burning fat through exercise.......2003-10-02
This is a highly readable guidebook to burning fat through exercise. Bailey uses just enough science to back up his suggestions, but not so much that an unscientific minded reader (such as myself) gets bogged down.
Bailey is very adamant that burning fat comes through exercise, and that trying to burn (lose) fat through diet alone is not nearly as effective. The best fat-burning combination includes 4 components: aerobic exercise, cross-training, weight training, and sprints.
Bailey does a great job of explaining how each of these exercise components works to help retrain the body and muscles to burn fat. There are very helpful tables and graphs throughout the book.
My one disappointment with this book concerns his formula to measure percent body fat. Although he claims this formula is "nearly" as precise as expensive medical alternatives (especially floatation methods), it has a 2 percent margin of error. That means your final calculation is correct *plus or minus 2 percent.* That means you have a range of 4 percentage points. That does not sound very precise or helpful to me.
Nonetheless, I found the book overall to be very instructive, and it will help me design my exercise workouts for no doubt much better fat burning results.

EXCELLENT - EASY TO PREPARE MEALS.......1999-04-20
We have used several recipes in this book and find them extremely good and easy to make. Ingredients are very basic. My husband has a history of high triglyceride for which he is currently taking medication for. As a former cancer patient - have lowered the above as well as cholesterol levels. His physician is quite impressed. This is the only recipe book we use. We would highly recommend this book for anyone watching fat intake. I guarantee that you will be quite surprised in how satisfying the food is and you won't have that "hungry" feeling which leads to the dreaded snacks!

I loved the book because it uses recipes with all basic foods. There are no special ingredients to find and purchase. This book is a great way to introduce healthy, low-fat cooking into the average home.
