Just not that Great.......2007-09-03
This addition to the Final Destination franchise just didn't make the cut for me. The premise of the book is similar to the other Final Destination books, a premonition by one of the due-to-die people helps him/her and his/her friends to cheat Death for the first time. After which, Death stalks them one by one to finish what Death has started in order not to mess up the Grand Design.
The writing per se is good. I liked how Nancy Collins showed the characters, the nuances to the background of each and the reason for their personality. However, I did not just buy the fact that Death would need the help of one of its supposed victims in order to take the lives of the others in the catastrophe and reward this person with the old life she craves for.
In this story, Death sought the help of Sherry, the premonition person, to help kill her friends by means of being a medium for Death's design in exchange for her old life back. The problem I have with this is mainly, by giving Sherry her life, Death would need to restructure the Grand Design also since Sherry would now be alive and could affect the lives of the other people around her (the survivors of the original Final Destination unknowingly saved the lives of many individuals who Death tried to kill in the pile-up of Final Destination 2). So if Death would not want to mess with his Grand Design, Sherry should also be killed. In addition to this, the possibility of Sherry getting pregnant and therefore adding another wrench to Death's Design.
I just think that the plot was not well thought of since the initial premise of protecting the Design is defeated by the derived method of protecting it.
Logic is just not found in the book.
Looks CAN Kill!.......2006-11-16
Other books in this series have left me extremely disappointed, so I was rather plesantly surprised when I got to the end of this book and found I was extremely hooked to the story and found the plot actually not half-bad.
Very simply put, this is the high-stakes world of fashion, media and limelight, where looks are everything and 'friends' are not as they seem. Backstabbing happens so often and you will not know who to trust.
A young model saves her friends from a ship's disaster and results in her own face getting horribly disfigured. To save her skin (literally), she makes a deal with the Grim Reaper to exchange her beauty for her friends' lives, in other words, if she helped the Reaper get rid of them and right the obstruction of death, he would restore her former beauty and let her live.
Each of the characters is well-developed and there is already a pre-existing story for each of them, which Nancy cleverly uses to get the reader to sympathise or understand, and then gruesomely kills them off. End of story. The ending I liked especially because it was clever, witty and very well-written without being melodramatic or even, sappy.
However, I thought the final twist was not as surprising or 'twist-y' as it could have been. It left me a little sore, wanting for more, but at the same time thankful that the journey had been completed. A piece of writing that can invoke such oxymoronic feelings in me definitely deserves these 5 stars.
This One Got Me Hooked!.......2006-11-12
This installment was the first one I read and I didn't want to stop reading the series when I finished with it. I finished this in a night because I could not put it down. Some parts, I'll admit, confused me on where everybody was and all, but (if that happens to you) keep reading and it'll all make sense eventually. I love the way some of the people died! I know that sounds horrible, but some of the deaths are great. I love the characters and the stories that go along with them. Nancy A. Collins wrote it nicely in the way that she introduced and gave the stories of the characters right before they died. I liked that and how it kept things organized. With books like these it's extremely easy to get unorginized and confuse everything, but with this book that wasn't the case. Definately my favorite of the series.
Exciting.......2006-08-14
I didn't know what to expect when reading this. I was a fan of the movies and needed something to tie me over until the third one was released and I found this book.
Following the same theme as the movies, the highest fashionable models of New York escape a cruise liner accident when Sherry, one of the youngest models recieves a premonition. Tragically she is injured and her career as a model was sacrificed to save her fellow models.
Now death has given Sherry the opportunity to be spared her life and her modeling career in exhange for the model's lives. Will she take his offer or will she slip past death and trick him at his own game?
This book was full of great plot twists and elaborate death scenes from the very first page. The character development is dispursed throughout the novel so the plot begins from the beginning chapter. I would recommend this book to any one interested in the Final Destination Series or just looking for a good horror/thriller novel.
What I enjoyed most was the intra-relationships referred to by Alex Browning who pulled himself and others off of Flight 180, and then again by Kimberly who predicted the route 23 smash-up. This novel continues to develope the plot and characters from the first two movies two help unravel the mystery behind the premonitions seen by the young adults.
Don't look at me!.......2006-08-09
Sherry, one of a group of supermodels all named after various wines, is suddenly visited with a vision as she and the other models and their boyfriends get ready to board a cruise ship to celebrate a successful season. The models all heed her advice and don't get on the ship. All except the head of the modeling agency, Merlot, who arranged the party and she ignores Sherry's warning. Sure enough, before the ship leaves the harbor it is hit by a cigarette boat and begins to sink. All the models are so grateful that they listened to Sherry, even though they still don't understand how she really knew. Sherry is hurt badly by flying debris and remains in the hospital for some time in a coma. She has severe burns and it looks as if her modeling career is over.
Eventually Sherry regains consciousness but she is so marred that none of the other models really wants to look at her or be around her. She becomes depressed. What will she do without her good looks? Then Death visits her in human form and tells her there is a solution and she can get her looks back. Does Sherry want to take it?
Nancy A. Collins has written a thrilling science fiction novel about conceited women with deep insecurity about their looks and their abilities. They are all about themselves and how they appear to others. She develops the characters so well you feel as if you know them. All the brand name dropping got a bit tedious but actually, since they were models, name brands are what they are all about. It was a very entertaining novel and if bizarre is your thing, this is the book for you.

Wolf In Shadows.......2002-01-24
I don't know about you guys but i can't seem to get enough of David Gemmell, or Waylander the Slayer. This book gives us one more adventure with Waylander and lets us experience all over again his ability to deal Death to all who oppose him.
I thought that the book was very good reading and i especially liked the way that Gemmell ended it off.
To all you other die hard fans out there keep on reading and harassing Gemmell to write more books.
Available under the title "Legend".......2000-11-15
"Against the Horde" was the original US publication title for David Gemmell's first novel. In the UK it was published with the title "Legend" and is still available under that title.
Don't despair....this is the same as "Legend".......2000-07-29
This story is about Druss the legend. Part of the Drenai Saga. This was for Gemmell his breakthru novel. So if you can't find this edition....just buy the Title: Legend. It's the same book just a different title. And if you like it there is still plenty of books in the Drenai series. If you're a 'virgin' gemmell reader. Let me warn you. His books are addictive.
The good news: he has written a lot of books.
The bad news:Once you're a fan....it will not be enough. And before long you'll be hanging around bookstores yearning for his latest release.
The good news:gemmell is a very productive writer.(without comprimising the quality)
The Bad news: it's still not enough.
So people be warned before you start on any of his books. because it's EXTREMELY addictive.

This is the most outstanding piece of fantasy literature tha.......1998-12-10
This is an excellent book full of drama and intrigue. If you like to think and become involved wiht the characters then this is the book for you. It has an intricate plot that weaves together a wonderful tale of a group of characters that are all uniquely different. The old warrior Druss, legend of the past, comes out of retirement to battle against a horde of vicious barbarians from the north. He is badly outnumbered over 500 to 1 but will fight to the last man. This novel is a tear jerker at times and full of vicious savagry. I guarentee that you won't want to set it down and when you turn the last page you'll know that was one great novel. All I can say is that is my all tiem favorite novel and wil remain so forever. It has the mark of greatness.

The keys to overweight are liver toxicity, waterlogged tissues, fear of eating fat, excess insulin, and stress, asserts nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman. Her Fat Flush Plan addresses these problems with a targeted diet.
The Fat Flush Plan, filled with nutritional analysis and detailed explanations, is not a quick read. Despite Gittleman's assertion that the plan is "as easy as 1-2-3," it is quite regimented. No white flour, white sugar, margarine, vegetable shortening, artificial sweeteners, or caffeine. The diet emphasizes essential oils (e.g., flaxseed and GLA), protein (eight ounces or more, plus two eggs a day), vegetables, thermogenic spices (e.g., ginger and cayenne), water, and diuretic beverages (eight glasses/day of diluted, unsweetened cranberry juice). In its first two-week phase, the plan is a rigid, low calorie (1,100-1,200 calories/day), low-carb (no grains or starchy vegetables) diet. Phase two lets you increase your calories to 1,500 and add two "friendly carbs." Phase three, the "lifestyle program," moderately adds more dairy, carbs, and calories. Gittleman promotes walking and recommends strength training in phase three.
The book includes 41 recipes such as Grilled Lamb Chops with Cinnamon and Coriander, Breakfast Egg Fu Yung, and Cumin Sautéed Scallops. The Fat Flush Plan is recommended for dieters willing to commit to a strict plan for weight loss. --Joan Price

Good .......2007-09-24
"The Fat Flush Plan" presents foods, herbs, spices, and supplements that help you cleanse your body, speed up fat loss, and lead healthier live. It will help you adopt healthy eating habits. What the book is missing, in my opinion, is other aspects of healthy living. Proper nutrition is important but it is only a small part of it. For much more comprehensive information on healthy lifestyle I highly recommend getting "Can We Live 150"
Good style of eating, but hard to maintain.......2007-08-29
I bought this book a few years ago, and it worked out very well. I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks without ever working out. Then when I started working out I lost another 15 lbs the next week. However, this an expensive style of eating to maintain. I call it a style of eating, because it really wasn't like a "diet" to me compared to every other one I had been on. But with what my husband and I make, I just couldn't afford to keep buying the expensive foods. Since I stopped using the book I still use flax seeds in things when I remember, and drink lemon water and cranberry juice often, but I have gained back every pound and then some! I would recommed this book to people, but with a disclaimer staing "be prepared to pay big bucks!" However, if you are overweight/obese and have many health problems that require you to take medications, this book would be well worth the try and the money. Because for a lot of people I know, they've eventually been taken off of their expensive medications. And eating healthy is always safer and cheaper than taking prescription meds every day. And no one should expect this to be a quick fix, nor any other diet! It takes hard work and determination to stick to any healthy eating plan. If you eat junk for years on end, and then begin to eat healthy, wether or not you follow this particular plan, you can expect to lose some amount of weight, it will vary with for everyone. But if you just go right back to eating the way you were before, obviously you're going to gain the weight back! It took me a while to realize that, but at least I did realize it, right? By the way, why are naturally, healthy, good for you foods so expensive compared to overprocessed junk food?
Not for those who just need to lose 10-15 lbs.......2007-08-11
As a 44-year old woman who exercises regularly, eats very well and takes a handful of supplements everyday, I just wanted to lose a few pounds in my chest and waistline. I was not overweight to begin with. However, I had this book on the shelf and decided to give it a whirl. I didn't make it through Phase One. I thought it wouldn't be too bad since I don't like sweets and I rarely eat anything with high-fructose syrup or sugar. I also only eat whole grain "good" carbs and I used to be a vegan so excluding dairy would be no problem. Even foregoing my wine was easy. However, I found this diet too restrictive and the recipes bland and boring. Come on!!! I love curries!! Isn't tumeric suppose to be good for you? I was extremely lethargic for the whole time and had to take 2-hour naps during the day. My head hurt tremendously and I was foggy, unfocused and dizzy all the time. Let's not even discuss my mood swings and periods of craziness. With my blood pressure being somewhat low, I was concerned that I was not getting enough sodium. One day I was so out of it that my husband suggested I drink a V-8 juice which has alot of sodium. I drank 1/2 a can and felt better in almost minutes.
I was so fatigued that I had to forego my daily 1.5 hour bike rides. Clearly this is counter-productive to losing weight. Overall, I would not recommend this diet to anyone who isn't overweight and just wants to lose a few pounds. I think I'll just go back to eating well and exercising but I'll just eat smaller portions.
Save on future doctor bills!!.......2007-07-13
I want to join in with the other Fat Flushers who have stated with absolute conviction that this plan works. I lost 15 lbs. on this plan. I don't want to use the term "diet" because this book is intended to be a lifestyle change. This book has helped me to detox my liver, cleanse my colon, and be more aware of what goes into my body. I started the Fat Flush Plan because I wanted to lose weight. After reading this book, some of what she said really scared me because I knew it was true. I could tell by the way I felt. This book helped me to get rid of that awful feeling. I succeeded on the Plan because I used the sample menus and adjusted them to my liking. To be honest, there are quite a few foods for which I don't care. I have taken as my own a lot of Ann Gittleman's recommendations. Most of my food is organic and fresh. I don't eat any processed foods anymore. If I can't find what I'm looking for in the grocery store, then I go to my favorite health food store. I fix a lot of her recipes. My favorite is "Yummy Meatloaf." Of course, I love the smoothies. This book has opened my eyes to a lot of things that damage our bodies, and it gives the tools on how to repair them. By drinking the cran-water, my cellulite has greatly diminshed. For anyone thinking of starting this plan, or is in the midst of it, you have to stick with it. Adjust the menus to your liking and don't skip a meal. The first phase of the plan is probably the hardest. Once you're through that, you'll be glad that you did it. I didn't feel hungry or deprived, and I didn't have any cravings. I was a coffeeholic, but I've been able to get rid of that addiction. These changes have made me more energetic; my attitude is a very positive one; and my skin looks better. In another review, someone made mention of Ann Gittleman's products. I use them, and have been quite happy with them. The whey protein is excellent. They are a tad bit expensive, but the way that I look at it is that purchasing these products and eating healthy is money well spent on avoiding doctor bills in the future! So, I highly recommend this book!

The Fat Flush Fitness Plan, written by a powerhouse team, offers Joanie Greggains' detailed exercise program, designed to complement Ann Louise Gittleman's The Fat Flush Plan. Gittleman is a high-profile nutritionist, frequently featured in the media. Veteran fitness expert Greggains, author of Fit Happens, hosted television's long-running "Morning Stretch" and leads 15 workout videos. Greggains emphasizes low-impact aerobics, weight training, stretching, more sleep, and calmer living. The eating program (you'll need Gittleman's other books for the details) hinges on Gittleman's premise that "cleansing the liver and the lymphatic system is absolutely crucial for physical health, weight loss, and an overall sense of well-being." This isn't a quick-fix program, but a long-term, lifestyle change including yoga, walking or rebounding, strength training with a weighted ball, stretching, lymphatic massage, and aromatherapy baths. Start with Phase 1: "Detox, Start Moving--and Relax"; add strength training in Phase 2: "Build Lean Muscle Mass"; increase cardio and change the strength routine in Phase 3: "Lymph-Fit/Compound Strength and Stretching Plan." All phases present a step-by-step, clearly illustrated exercise program. The book is nicely designed, with clear photographs, boxed tips, write-in questionnaires, pledges, and a sample journal. --Joan Price

Great companion to the Fat Flush Diet Plan.......2007-07-13
If you're looking for an exercise regime to complement the Fat Flush Diet Plan, then this is the book for you. Besides recommended exercises for the three phases of the Fat Flush Diet, Ann Gittleman and Joanie Greggains go into other information that is just as important as exercising for the diet to succeed. These are: dry brushing for the lymph system; proper sleep; using essential oils for your bath. They also discuss cellulite, and how best to diminish it. I found the book very useful and informative. I love using my rebounder! I recommend this book very highly.
Works for Me!.......2006-08-03
As a veteran dieter I am slow to jump on new diet plans. However, I quickly learned that Fat Flush is not just a new approach to weight loss but an attempt at a higher standard of nutritional health and well-being.
I found this book and the plan it outlines to be exceptionally beneficial toward my weight correction goals and toward general health improvement efforts. I think the menus are tasty and satisfying. I find Ann Louise Gittleman to be very thorough in her concerns for the overweight and addresses many more issues than just what to eat. I find her book and the resources she offers in it to be very helpful.
I wholeheartedly recommend the book to anyone struggling with weight problems. I wholeheartedly recommend the book to anyone concerned with their health.
Gittleman's Greatness, Then The Title.......2005-06-30
As usual, this book is very informative, so I give her three stars in that respect. Her books in general paint a splendid natural way to eat for health-conscious people that harkens to a time when organic food was the norm. Sometimes I slap myself when I realize what brave new world we exist in now when eating organic food is a luxury. Who knew that one day we would have to pay ridiculous prices to avoid eating hormone-pumped chickens allowed to sit and fatten in cages under artificial light while being fed animal byproducts to boot? "Organic" food now costs two to three times more than conventional food.
I have nothing but appreciation for nutritionists now. When I was young and couldn't comprehend death, I've been known to shew away nutritionists with one hand and with a candy bar in the other. Now they're my mystic advisers who are themselves advised by science; this regimen is a reliable and sound one. I have been on this plan for one week. I have already lost six pounds.
Most importantly, I have gained mental clarity and stability. I have recently been severely depressed and was prescribed antidepressants. This regimen was my last hope that I can reverse the problem myself. I believe, as a result of this diet (flaxseed oil in particular), my moods are not so strong and intrusive. I still feel frustration, but it's no longer overpowering and I can usually persist through my problems. I also feel energized. So that desire to oversleep is almost completely eliminated. And there is still more to come as I walk toward that horizon of more possibilities -- exercise!
If you HATE to exercise, this book's for YOU!.......2004-01-05
Ya hafta love a book (Fat Flush Fitness Plan) that advises you to take a long, scented, therapeutic bath three times a week as an aid to appetite suppression! (I'm sooooooooo there!)(page 165)
And dry skin brushing! I mean, who knew?! Since starting this regimen, my skin is soft as silk AND I have the added smug knowledge that this routine aids the lymphatic system in flushing fat!
Add to these activities some yoga, stretching, rebounding, and cardio workout and you have a varied, supportive exercise regimen that seems more like fun than a chore. (Let's face it, there's no such thing as a too tight [rear]!)
Bottom line: this is a smart book. You NEED this book! You WANT this book! You DESERVE this book!
Not only the best fitness book but gives you so much more!.......2004-01-05This book was well written and easy to read. Finally a fitness plan that works in harmony with your body and your total overall health. I like that the book not only goes in detail (including pictures ) about the fitness plan but also includes important information about cleansing our lymphatic system, reducing stress, eating well and giving us the knowledge and tools to create a healthy body from within as well as being fit on the outside. It complements my other book the fat flush plan, lost 45 lbs. Thanks for turning my size 14 body to size 5!

Ramsay dishes up yet more culinary excitement!.......2007-09-28
I've been a Ramsay fan for years. His philosophy and insistence on fresh, wholesome, quality ingredients parallel my own insistence on freshness and, wherever possible, organic ingredients. This book, and the accompanying DVD, is simply fabulous for turning out simple, but incredibly delicious cooking with that little extra flair. The recipes are basic, unpretentious and easy. UK ingredients aren't that hard to find (or subtitute) if you really mean business when it comes to your palate.
Unless you think you can cope with another addiction, avoid the chocolate fondant recipe - Ramsay says it's his favorite and one mouthful, and you'll know why. It's decadent and offers interesting textures, especially served with cold whipped cream or ice cream! Be warned!
I love this guy!!.......2007-09-25
This is a wonderful intimate little book designed for the home chef. The DVD is rather short, but does have some humor to it. The recipes range from simple to fancy...but all have the common denominator of using fresh ingredients and letting the delicious flavors of the vegetables and meats shine through without burying it in heavy rich sauces etc. All the dishes are very clean tasting and not overly fussy, although there are also fancier recipes for special occasions.
My absolute favorite recipe in this book is the crispy skin salmon on crushed potatoes, baby leeks with tomato butter - it comes out restaurant class. Also the chocolate fondant is deceptively easy to make, but is very impressive when served up.
Gordan is a modern chef, and his food is trendy yet classic. This book is well worth the purchase price...
he does make it easy!!!!.......2007-09-18
Gordon Ramsey does make it easy to use the recipes in his book. His dvd is clear and easy to follow. Some of the ingredients may be hard to find in this country but his way of cooking is simple and tasty. I love his attitude.."you can do this". Oh, and he uses our measurements for recipes.
Easy Recipes.......2007-09-05
This is my favorite cookbook. These recipes are esaier than the ones in "cooking for dummies" book that I have. The broccolli goat cheese soup in my favorite. The best thing about this cookbook, is that you can add or take away some of the ingrediants in his recipes to make it your own and it still taste good.
