Better than the first.......2006-06-07
The first novelisation of the films was quite a good book, but this one was quicker to read, and more graphic and gory! There's also a slightly different storyline to how Alex died compared to the first movie - I haven't seen the first or second in a while, but according to this book, he was hit in the face by a brick, which instantly killed him. But I honestly can't remember.
The book is loads more gory in the description than originally comes across in the film, and it really works. Especially the added bit that during the massive car pile up at the beginning, seeing people's faces just before cars blow up. Very creepy.
There's some more storyline involving the lead character, Kimberley too, which involves you more with her character, as in the film, I didn't really like her character.
Most of the book sticks closely to the film, there's not many additions, apart from towards the end, but it's really enjoyable, and a good, if not gory, read.

ironic title - .......2006-07-04
There is an ironic aspect to this book and its title. Written in 1988, it decries what it calls lost opportunities in avoiding or minimising the arms race between the US and the Soviet Union. Granted, Morris raised good points and many others at the time shared his concern. But unbeknownst to the author, the Soviet Union was on its last legs. The Cold War is generally considered to have ended a year later, in 89, with the collapse of the Berlin Wall and East Germany.
In retrospect, the author did raise valid concerns. But for all the failings in US foreign policy, the arms race was a major factor in bankrupting the Soviet Union. While the US did take on a large debt burden in its military expenditures, we now know that it had a far stronger economy. Though this was by no means clear at the time.

Good, but could be better........2003-02-26
First off, major kudos to the reader of this series. He does a great job of changing his voice to separate the characters and keeping the mood of the series. The sound effects were decent as well. They did a pretty good job with the abridgment, unfortunately they cut out many of the little things that made the originals great instead of just good. Anyone new to the series wont notice a thing and us veterans can add the missing paragraphs and ocasional chapter ourselves. With 2 more voice actors, a little better sound effects and the full text this would have been a great buy... As it is, it's still a good series that you can spend a long time listening to.
Can the Clans be stoped?.......2002-07-06

The book is enthralling!.......1999-06-20
The book is very good. I learned alot about the clans byreading this book. The glossary is very good. The book even includes a map to pinpoint the worlds mentioned. The BTech universe is brought to new heights with this book. The drama was good, and Romano Liao's death was an interesting twist. All in all, a must read.
The best I've read so far (note : PAY ATTENTION HERE).......1998-12-30
Lost Destiny has an extremely compelling storyline. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down, reading until 1 AM from 10 PM, then finishing the next evening! (At that point, I was waaaaay tired). If you're a true BattleTech fan, then you've read this. If not, GET YOUR HANDS ON IT!!!
Book Description
Somewhere in the confines of the earth, at a place traditionally associated with the land of the north, the lost tribes of Israel exist as a nation.
They are very possibly not intermingled among the different countries of the world, as some might suppose, but are living as a separate group of people at an undisclosed location.
Unlike in times past, little is said about them anymore, and on occasion when the subject of their return is mentioned, it is almost regarded as fiction. Yet in the future when the rumor comes that crumbling rock and ice have opened up a passageway in the north countries and a mysterious highway has appeared, then people will know that the ten tribes are finally on their way!

The second most useless book in the world.......2003-10-29
McConckie has written three books. One is on marriageand Gods message baout intimacy. The second is about the 'gathering' where the Jews will be saved from Armegeddon and is the WORST book in the world. This is the second most useless. Why? Because this book puports itself to be a 'historical' insight into the disappearence of the ten lost tribes of Israel. Yet it is a total fabrication by someone who has no knowledge of Hebrew and no knowledge of the debate souroundignt he subject.
Many scholars have actually looked at the evidence sourounding the ten lost tribes? They used empircal reasoning to determine what might have happaned to these people. How many were their at the time of capture? Where might the Assyrians have removed them too? What might they have done? Evidence exists for the possibility of these tribes ending up in India, Yemen, the Cuacuses, Central Asia, and even Africa. The truth is that rabbinical scholars have also looked into the biblical references to their disappearence and the description of them being in the 'north' which may mean they are simply obscure(disappeared).
This author fabricates history by saying the Hebrew Bible contends that these tribes are in fact under the surface of the earth. Hmmmm, I seem to remember that being from a disney film or something. Your telling me that a PHD in history can reasonably assume the ten tribes are living AT THE CENTER OF THE EARTH!!!! and will one day reappear. Wait a sec, this book is fiction...oops oh no its in the wrong section. I'm not sure why this book is in the non-fiction section but its not a history book or even a philisopphical book or even a theological book. Its written by a messianic mormon who uses his own wacky ideas to contrive history and lie to us about a bible we can pick up an read for ourselves.
So if you are interested in watching someone 'prove' that the ten tribes have built massive underground caves in the ceter of the earth and that they exist down their waiting to return then go read this, if your interested in reality their are other books on the ten tribes and what might have happaned to them.
Total Piece of JUNK!!!.......2003-09-12
It is astonishing that anyone with a Ph.D. would allow their name to be attached to such a terribly written jumble of nonsense. This booklet reads more like a freshman research paper thrown together an hour before class by a student who never bothered to look at the assigned readings, and thinking - I'll use large font and hopefully nobody will notice I have nothing much to say with the required number of pages.
This booklet is purely a slapdash collection of ramblings and outdated folklore. The premise is that the ten tribes are living in a concave of the earth somewhere beneath the surface. Documentation is presented throughout the book in the following manner: according to one source, on one occasion, it is believed, etc. That type of citation is usually a big red flag that an author has no valid sources to quote from and needs to do a lot of padding for flimsy ideas, of which this book abounds.
The entire presentation of the topic is pathetically weak. Again, I am astounded the author claims to have a Ph.D. and is such a deficient writer. Even if the ideas seemed valid and interesting, the writing is of such pitiful quality that it is impossible to get beyond that point. Go back to school "Dr." McConkie - you need to learn to present your ideas in a concise and logical manner. You also need to learn a few things about writing. Try taking a Freshman English class!

Accurate historical account of Anglo and Ute interaction.......2003-01-19
Having grown up in Utah my brain was filled with positive stories of Mormon and American Indian relations. It would not until many years later, when I started researching local American Indian information, that my eyes were widely open to the myth of my childhood education.
I met Gary Weicks several years ago when he was compiling a manuscript from the intensive research he had done. It started as a project for a Forest Service archeological dig in the Strawberry Valley. He was researching for information on the Army maneuvers held there in 1888. However, it became very intriguing to him to read of the Ute interactions that were written in Army reports. It took him on a new adventure researching the history of the Ute and this adventure took many fascinating twists.
As I read the book it seemed there was a new twist every few pages. It definitely gives you a new look on Ute and Anglo interactions. I believe a book like this is way overdue. It's time to bury the myths of the past and teach the true facts of Utah history.
This is a must read book for anyone who is interested in the old west, military, Mormon, Utah or Native American history. The book also spends time telling about the Lost Rhoades Mines Legend and the early miners of the area. It reveals the comprehensive story of a previously unpublished chapter in Utah history.
Weicks states that, "For over 400 years before the Mormon arrival in 1847, many of the Northern Utes and their preto historic ancestors lived in relative peace and stability within the territory currently encompassing much of Utah. In less than twenty years of settlement by the Brethren in their newest Land of Zion, the collective authorities of the Mormon Church, Bureau of Indian Affairs and U.S. Army convinced Congress to officially dispossess these Northern Utes of all their traditional and best lands except for the sprawling and considerably barren wastes of the Uintah Reservation located in northeastern Utah. By Church Prophet and President Brigham Young's own accounting, several bands of these original first contact Indians - through starvation, pestilence and white inspired epidemics - had experienced somewhere between a 90% to 99% mortal attrition rate in their numbers by 1867."
He goes on to say that, "In the mid-1870s Brigham Young, searching for new areas to colonize with land-seeking church members, began a policy that actively encouraged the Utes to depopulate their reservation where treatment by BIA officials over the years was poor and inefficient. Through the Church leader's ability to significantly control both Indian movements and affairs in Utah, Brigham began quiet efforts to induce Congress to throw open the Uintah Reservation to homesteading. Though the soil was largely infertile, the valuable water, timber and grazing resources of the country were coveted by the surrounding Latter Day faithful as well as the large cattle companies."
Brigham Youngs death slowed down this progress. Problems in Colorado with the Ute pushed many Colorado Ute tribes into Utah in the late 1870s.
In the 1880s mining interests on the Uintah and Uncompahgre Reservations gave another push to move the Utes off their reservations. The depression of 1893 renewed this push.
Weicks said, "In 1897, when the great Klondike Gold Rush began in Canada, Americans were caught up in the frenzy of seizing the moment and embracing the chance of renewed wealth regardless of the ravages of the lingering depression. Additional strikes in Alaska in 1899 and 1902 inspired an entire nation to get swept away in the gold fever so prevalent, especially in the West. Old mining tales, such as the Lost Rhoades Mines Legend centered on the Uintah Reservation, were resurrected and received serious attention throughout Utah and surrounding states. These wild stories of incredible riches sustained additional forward momentum to throw open the Uintah Reservation shortly after the turn of the century."
I found This Was the Place: The Darker Side of Mormon Zion to be written passionately and with a folksy wit making it enjoyable reading. It is written in a way that makes it easygoing and hard to lay down.
History of a people in turmoil.......2002-11-24
This Was the Place is the story of the fate of the Indians of Utah and Colorado in the 1800s. Like many Native American tribes, the Utes, Goshutes, and related tribes, were pushed from one piece of land to another, made promises by the government that were never kept, and were ignored when they were hungry and poor and their ability to feed themselves had been taken away from them.
Weicks gives a well-researched, detailed account of the machinations of government, civilians, military, and Indians as all jockeyed for position. He has used primary and secondary sources, and interviews with historians and experts of today. It's an intelligent accounting of who was there and the sequence of events.
Anyone interested in the history of Utah and Colorado, the tribes living in that area, and relations between white and Indian, will find this book of great interest.

Saved my life!.......2006-07-26
I spent 18 months seeing 25 doctors, took pain killers, muscle relaxants, sleep meds, anti-depressant, Xanax and kept getting worse. Was unable to sleep, to sit or walk without extremem pain. Quit my job, lost my fiance, ended up hospitalized for severe depression.
Then I got this book, followed it religiously. Now I'm off all medication, quit seeing all doctors, am pain free, sleeping again and have my life back!!!
This book does not say "its all in your head" .......2005-01-27
Nor does it say you are a hypochondriac, or you want to feel bad to get out of work...
The book does tell everyone there is a connection between your emotions and your body. Check the latest scientific research in this area. It is all being confirmed. No it is not as easy as just saying "OK I made all this up. Now I'm better". There is a connection to circulation, blood flow, healthy muscles, nerve pain... and emotional states. And yes, the pain makes the emotional states worse so the snowball just gets bigger and bigger.
There are many many factors of stress, so good sleep, healthy diet and light exercise and all the other common sense things apply here.

A disservice to FM suffers. .......2004-08-24
This book may work for some as witnessed by other reviewers, however, I feel it perpetuates the myth that FM is only in one's head. We have enough physicians who are "non believers" (I've met a few) as it is. If FM patients can cure themselves with mental exercises, then I say "have at it." Whatever works; I fully understand that desperate people will try desperate measures. But if it works for FM, then it should work equally for cancer, heart disease, spinal injuries, Parkinson's, diabetes, et al. When, oh when, will they find out the real PHYSICAL cause for this malady? I await the day. Only then will we find a real cure.
Sounds too good to be true but it works!.......2004-05-07
My mother sent me this book, and being a scientist, I was very sceptical. However, I had nothing to lose and decided to follow the program. That was three years ago and I rarely have any clinical signs now. It has convinced me of the health connection between the mind and the body. I hope you have the same success I did.
No help........2003-01-02
This book perpetuates the out-dated idea that Fibromyalgia is helped to worsen by your own mentality and emotions. It's funny that Amazon.com paired it with "What your Doctor may not tell you about Fibromyalgia..." by Dr. St. Amand; seeing as how their contents completely contradict one another. If you want "freedom from Fibromyalgia," do what I did: buy "What your Doctor may not tell you..." and get better with guaifenesin like myself and millions of others. Dr. St. Amand is a doctor who knows that having fibromyalgia is what brings on depression, emotional and cognitive problems... not vice versa. This book is a waste of time for someone who wants to get better a.s.a.p, and have it last forever, unless you've been diagnosed as a hypocondriac

Great-tasting recipes.......2007-05-02
All the recipes I've tried so far have been delicious! The crabcakes, the vegetarian paella, the strawberry-kiwi cream tart...I could go on and on. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys great-tasting healthy food - and I can't think of a reason why anyone wouldn't. I just wish it had a few color photos inside to show how some of the dishes should look; that's always helpful in any cookbook. Nonetheless, it's a handy book I'll be using again and again.
good variations.......2005-12-12
I checked this book out from the library and have decided to buy it for myself. Everything I've made from this cookbook has turned out excellent. I also love how you can search by ingredient, even if the ingredient you want to use up is not the main ingredient, unlike most cookbooks. This is key for me, as I usually buy a lot of whatever produce is on sale that week, such as carrots, and then end up frustrated because I don't necessarily want to make a carrot recipe per se. Sometimes I want to use up the last 2 carrots, the last bell pepper, and the last 2 stalks of celery (the staples for any crisper) before buying a new batch. In other words, the index will point you to all recipes where your tail-end ingredient is used. Lesser known produce, such as bok choy, also have recipes (I buy most of my vegetables from Chinatown markets). Also, I'm generally loose with measuring, whether it'sproduce or spices, but nothing has ended up catastrophically. Finally, my boyfriend is vegetarian while I am not, but this cookbook allows me to cook for both of us, with good vegetable and tofu-based recipes. A positive recommendation.
Delicious Healthy Cooking.......2002-03-30
I have been so impressed with the recipes and information contained in this cookbook. Everything that I have tried has been so delicious. Recipes from this book have become my family's favorites - the ones that are most requested. I particularly recommend the recipes for poached salmon and chicken piccante. There is also very good information and tips about reducing fat, making substitutions, and being more health conscious in your cooking. I definitely recommend this book!
two thumbs up!.......2000-09-28
I love this book! It has so many yummy recipies that actually taste good! It also is very informative about preperation of foods It has been a great help to me in my quest for a healthier lifestyle. I use it all the time and they are recipies you can use everyday not just for parties. It's great, I really recommend this book!
