To make things worse, a long-vanquished foe vows to destroy the Prince. The only hope of defeating their dark sorcery lies in reclaiming the knowledge so carefully concealed in the long-lost Star Scroll.

Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
The nice prince in the previous book is now the boss type of princes himself, and is happily married to the witchy wife woman. They have a kid who is going to get the double whammy of rulership and witchiness when he grows up.
In the meantime they have to solve the problem of being nice to dragons and stopping evil sorcerer guys.
A good novel.......2006-08-22
I wanted to give it three stars because for a couple hundred pages in the middle it is extremely slow. However I've read it more than once and my cover is bent. That means I genuinely liked the novel.
Rohan and Sioned have to deal with the challenges of ruling together, and the intrigue and drama grips you and won't let you go.
For me this was the Dragon Prince's 'happily ever after' explored as being the continuing challenges of life. Rawn weaves a rich world with great characterization and political intrigue. If you liked volume one of the Dragon Prince, buy volume two. You won't go wrong.
Wonderful followup to Dragon Prince.......2005-10-20
High Prince Roelstra is dead, but Prince Rohan's world faces new threats from within and without as sorcerers, with powers identical and perhaps surpassing the Sunrunners, make their bid for power. A new generation rises to maturity as the children of Dragon Prince take their place in the world, and old characters meet their various fates.... A can't miss for fans of Dragon Prince and fantasy lovers.
This is fantasy.......2004-11-24
This book is a very good read, full of adventure, romance, intrigue, magic, and suspense. While first book in this series was a bit slow, this book takes you back to what got you hooked on fantasy novels.
The characters are developed down to the smallest detail. They almost become personal friends. You feel all the excitement, fear, anger, and happiness that they feel.
The story is a typical adventure story, but Ms. Rawn has developed a way of throwing you of the predictable path with many different twists and curves to her plot. Some of which are so far off you want to start over to see if you missed something that could have predicted this event.
The only real issue with this book is that it takes time to develop. Some may think this book is to long, but a strong story with good character development takes many things and time is one of them.
Overall, this is an excellent book. I loved it and have read it many times.
Decent book but too long.......2003-09-04
From what I have read of Melanie Rawn's books is that she is good at developing characters and provides good plots, but takes a little too much time describing how perfect and beautiful everyone is. Not everyone can be beautiful and perfect. The last 300 pages offer a really good story, but the first 400 is pretty annoying.

Anachronisms Galore.......2007-02-05
Judging from the number of anachronisms and misinformation contained in this one book - IJ Parker has got no idea of Japanese culture, nor Buddhism, nor history in general let alone Japanese history. The writing is naive The plot is simple. So simple that the only surprise is that there is no surprise. How can this author have won any award?
Excellent mystery set in medieval Japan, first-rate beginning for a first-rate series........2006-08-26
Historical mysteries are like comedy -- either they work or they don't, and there is no middle ground. This mystery, the first of what I hope will be a long series, works wonderfully well. It is thoroughly grounded in the world of early medieval Japan, and it carries its immense learning and scholarship so lightly that only if you've read Japanese history for this period will you realize just how sound its view of Sugawara Akitada and his world is. The writing is always clear, amusing when it wants to be, and deeply moving at the right times. The plotting is sure and sensible, and the mystery unfolds at just the right pace. I read this one and immediately sought out the next. Highest recommendation.
An enjoyable read.......2006-04-02
I have read few mystery books/novels over the years but I do enjoy material concerning Japan and China (I was stationed in Japan for two years), and when I saw this at the store I decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. I enjoyed it throughout. It was difficult for me to put down once I picked it up. Besides the ancient Japanese setting, I also enjoyed the humor that the author found time to put in. I look forward to reading the other novels in this series.
Awkward and stilted.......2005-11-09
I agree with the previous reviewer who said "It is the perfect book to read at the beach or on a plane. The writing is not very deep, vivid or profound." It's OK, but nothing more. The mystery is very obvious and I found the writing very stilted and awkward-as if it were a translation by someone who was not very comfortable with English. Nor did I learn very much about the customs of the time. I am very thankful I borrowed it from the library.
An enjoyable mystery.......2005-09-13
This is the third book by I. J. Parker though timewise, the action takes place before the other two. It is an interesting look into the ways of ancient Japan with the plus of being an excellent mystery to boot. I find the characters believable - I wouldn't have read all three books if I hadn't. The premise of the book is that the main character is sent to a province to investigate the disappearance of taxes being sent to the capital. To say more would give away the whole plot.

Legend of the Five Rings fans played a key role in the development of the Clan War storyline. Author Ree Soesbee is well recognized among those fans and has been extremely instrumental in the design of the Legend of the Five Rings storyline.

Ms. Understood.......2004-01-17
I think this book is good BECAUSE the dragon lose their mystery and wonder. This book puts the Dragon totally out of it's element. I think she writes the families in the clan well. The Togashi are still full of mystery and riddles. The Mirumoto are warriors who respect that mystery and would love to posess that knowledge, but don't quite understand it. I will say that it can get a little dry, but hey, it's the calm
(kinda calm, don't forget Beiden Pass) before the storm baby! Good book. Shows the maturation of Himtomi, Yakamo, Toturi, and the degradation of the Hantei. Good book, don't listen to them.
Is she a Crab or a Dragon?.......2002-01-10
Ree Soesbee has a very unique ability, and that is to take any interesting clan and make it dull, 2 dimensional and very boring. Apart from a couple of glimmers in The Crane she managed to ruin them. Now she has sunk her claws into the Dragon. The Dragon a clan of mystery, riddles and enigma in all regards. Until now, there is absolutly none of that in this book. It lacks completly in every department that the Dragon are known for.
The characters are completly flat and she failed to make even the interesting of them worth reading. Whatever this book is about it certainly isn't the Dragon. If you have the rest of the series then you have to get this one to know what is going on. But every single page is a struggle. I hope this is the last novel that Ree Soesbee does.
A doer in a clan of thinkers, Vengeance born, perhaps sated........2001-11-10
Dragon was one of the better stories so far, but I suspect that it would be better to read Crab before Dragon. THe stories very much go together.
The Dragon have long contemplated the empire, and had a very important, though understated impact on the Scorpion actions.
The story follows the heroine throughout her career, through the forces that molded her, and the lessons she had to learn to obtain some of her potential.
It has enough mysticism inherrent between its covers to satisfy the profile of such an eccentric clan, and handles this well.
Internally the Dragon Clan suffers growing pains when it rejoins the workings of the Rokkugan Empire, as those that have long been contemplative take action. This too is handled well.
Even if you are not a fan of the Legend of the Five Rings series, it is a good read, and I would recommend it to any that is interested in fiction in the style of the far east. If you have not read Crab (Clan War ¿ Fifth Sroll), I would strongly suggest reading it first, though not imperative, it will add flavor to the meat of Dragon (Clan War ¿ Sixth Scroll)
Empire Undone.......2001-10-13
I have read all the other books up to this point and the end of this book left me wanting more. There was a lot of action and you really got to know the main character and what she was thinking. I feel if you like fantasy/ game related books you will really like this one here.
Book Description
Medieval castles, armored knights, dragons, and crests are among the scroll saw projects included in this pattern-filled book. The popular segmentation style, which involves applying a pattern to wood, cutting the wood according to the pattern, rounding the edges, painting the pieces, and gluing them back into position on a plywood backing, is introduced and explained in these projects. The effect of the segmentation method is that the finished pieces resemble ceramic tile and stone mosaics created by the ancient Romans. Beginner or intermediate scrollers can simplify or complicate the projects by deleting or adding pattern lines.

great hulk collection..........2007-01-17
if you are a fan of the hulk, you can't pass this one up. there isn't a dvd-rom collection of the hulk yet, so unless you want to pay big bucks for the masterworks collections (which are a lot shorter) this is the way to go. i don't mind it anyway, it's kind of nice just to see the king kirby's pencilwork without color. lee and kirby= the greatest team ever in comics.
The Hulk's transformation from Ol' Greyskin to Ol' Greenskin.......2003-06-27
Collected within these pages are the six issues from the original comic book of "The Incredible Hulk" and 32 stories from "Tales to Astonish" (issues #60-91). This becomes important because in the case of the latter we are talking 10 page stories because the Hulk shared space in "Tales to Astonish" with first Giant-Man and then the Sub-Mariner. Not that any Marvel superhero is particularly suited to this abbreviated storytelling format, but the Hulk certainly seems to be rather ill matched. After all, within each and every 10-page story Bruce Banner has to change into the Hulk (or visa versa), all without anybody getting a clue to the transformation ("Where did Doctor Banner go!"). That is why the original six issues of "The Incredible Hulk" stand out in such marked contrast.
But beyond that I think the idea of the Hulk is better than the stories. The combination of the Dr. Jekyll & Hyde transformation with the Frankenstein monster is inherently interesting. Those classic references also explain why the better stories seem to be those in which the army is going after the Hulk rather than the less than stellar super villains who pop up. Sure, the Leader would be rather ironic from the viewpoint of Dr. Banner, but the best conflicts with the Hulk involve not brains versus brawn but the one against the many. When "Thunderbolt" Ross has the U.S. Army go after the Hulk, then we are cooking with gas. Very few bad guys can go toe-to-toe with ol' green skin (notice they bring in Hercules) and the general rule is someone like Boomerang trying to stay one step ahead and avoid the inevitable for as long as possible. The validity of this viewpoint is certainly validated by this summer's blockbuster film (playing is a theater near you NOW!).
That also explains why the soap opera elements, with the Hulk coming between Bruce Banner and Betty Ross are more appealing. That is actually what provides the continuity over the course of these stories. Then there are the supporting characters, with Major Talbot, the son-in-law General Ross really wants, and Rick Jones, the teenage side kick who has no powers (at this point in Marvel history), just a big green secret. The end result is okay, but certainly not the best Marvel was putting out in the early Sixties. The origin story is arguably the best of the bunch. Stan Lee writes all of the stories and Jack Kirby does most of the art, but you will also find the pencil work of Steve Ditko, John Romita, John Buscema, Gil Kane and other diverse hands from the Marvel Bullpen. The Ditko drawn Hulk always strikes me as looking rather strange, but there is something to be said for Bill Everett inking Kirby's layouts. So there is no reason not to pick up this volume of "Essential" Marvel reprints, it is just not to be high on the list, except for the buzz generated by the film.
The Strongest One There Is!.......2002-03-29
The epic saga of Marvel Comics' misunderstood monster starts here!
In this collection, you'll find the first 6-issue run, followed by some issues of the character's revival in Tales To Astonish - the early stories here are either great or just average, depending on who was available to illustrate in the understaffed Marvel Bullpen of the early '60's.
Interestingly enough, it's here that we get to see some of the first Marvel work of Big John Buscema and Gil Kane, who were two of the artists that Stan Lee was able to recruit after Martin Goodman increased the pay rates for artists.
All in all, it's a worthy addition to your comics library...so what are you waitin' for?
"Essential" stories, flawed format........2001-12-07
The format of the Essential series is softcover, black and white (many times muddy), printed on cheap, pulpy paper. The classic stories in these books deserve better treatment by Marvel. Do yourself a favor and instead buy the Marvel Masterworks series, which are hardbacks, printed in color, on high quality paper. They are worth the difference in price.
The Hulk in the alpha stages.......2001-06-29
The Incredible Hulk is one of Marvel's best, most fascinating characters, but you wouldn't know it from reading this. This's the Hulk in the alpha stages, he still hasn't evolved into the tragic green monster we know and love today. The Hulk doesn't even refer to himself in the 3rd person perspective until the second half of the book, and even then it's inconsistent. Seeing the evolution of the Hulk as a character is kind of cool, but there're better books out there, as well as essential collections.

Book Description
Although men and women can articulate anger in very different ways, books on managing problem anger tend to focus on men and their tendency toward more violent anger expression. This workbook addresses the unique concerns of women with anger problems. Rigid social patterning, the book argues, conditions many women to stifle or deny their anger, and this repression can cause a range of other psychological problems. Others experience violent, outwardly focused anger. Whichever pattern your anger follows, you'll learn healthier ways to express your anger from this workbook.
Building on women's tendency to be more relational than men, this book advocates interactive techniques as a primary method of anger management intervention. It integrates elements of narrative, art, and music therapy into a powerful set of anger management tools. Cognitive behavioral and attitude adjustment exercises help you limit the power of anger-triggering situations. Worksheets and assessments guide you in an examination of family-of-origin issues that might contribute to your problems with anger. Sections of the workbook explore the connection between anger and substance abuse, mood disorders, and spirituality, as well as the issue of domestic violence in lesbian households.

Women Handle Anger Very Differently Than Men.......2007-01-10
I believe it is vitally important for our society to realize that men and women handle and exhibit anger in very different ways. This book has taught me a lot about feminine anger, and subsequently my own anger. I've found it to work especially well in conjunction with individual therapy. I highly recommend this book to women suffering from depression and/or anxiety, since those are both common masks of feminine anger.
Anger Management for Women.......2006-11-08
We have found this book to be very helpful with women we serve. It is specific to women, and their exeriences with anger in our world. We have added other items to our groups, but the basic knowledge in the book has been quite good.
This is a workbook only, not text!.......2006-10-30
I bought this book in error, I thought there would be something I could read and learn with maybe a few writing exercises. Either I should have read the description better or else a better description should have been written. Anyway, there is only one or two short paragraphs to read then a whole bunch of questions to answer. Some of the questions I didn't even understand, and there is no explanation afterwards as to what my answers mean. I was very disappointed especially since I am unable to get my money back, having written in it already.
Great Anger Workbook.......2004-12-10
I would definitly recommend the "Anger Workbook for Women," Dr. Laura Petracek was excellent in way in dealing with inward and outward anger. Her recommendations and advice, and workbook style pages is a great ways to address you anger and also keep a journal to see your own improvement. This book is a great resource and a great deal!
Women Get Angry, Too.......2004-11-25
As a mental health practicioner and specialist in the fields of anger management and family violence, I highly recommend Laura Petraceks's new book. To her credit, the author does not minimize or excuse women's anger, and understands that whether directed inwardly or outwardly, aggressive impulses are highly destructive regardless of the individual's gender. But the author also understands that in some ways women experience anger differently than men. Her sections on anger and depression are insightful, and her discussion of PMS is straighforward and refreshingly un-PC. Overall, the information is presented clearly and directly, and the exercises well-thought-out and practical. It should be a wonderful aid to any woman seriously working on anger issues, whether she is doing so in an invidual, couples or group therapy setting.
