great book.......2007-09-30

this was a very good book. i like all of the suspense and excitment in the story. i don't like what happens to Stonefur, but i like the end and how everything turns out. i don't want the original series to end. It will be hard to see Fireheart as the leader, and not having him be the main character. the next book that is abuot him is firestar's quest, which comes after the new prophecy #6. I am reading book #2 in the new prophecy. i can tell you that all of the warrios books are good

The dark book.......2007-08-26

This book was, as the title implies, a darker read. It was sad and at times hard to read but it was still a good page turner and I really liked it though at times it was hard to see my favorite characters in such bad situations. But that is perhaps the charm of the book. There is no skimping on the bad things that can happen in life, but somehow things always do work out in the end and perhaps I read this one faster than usual so I could get the characters to a better place in their lives. A great finish to a wonderful first series.

I really enjoyed this series........2007-06-05

I think warrior cats is a very good series. Most of it is not predictable until the very end, but it is still good. It is about a house cat called Rusty who journeys into the forest and joins ThunderClan, to help them survive. In the end he becomes clan leader with the name Firestar. I also think it has brilliant description. I recommend this series to people who like fighting and cats!

Great, Surprising, and Suspencefull.......2007-06-04

In this book of Hunter's amazing series, Warriors, Fireheart becomes Firestar after Bluestar's death. He learns of a dangerous Clan outside of the four Clan's that rule the forest. It could mean the distruction of all the Clans or it could mean another treachery of Tigerclaw's. Or both.

Decent mystery by a great writer.......2007-03-06

I'm used to J.A. Jance's Sheriff Joanna Brady series, so this book was a pleasant surprise. Much rougher and edgier than the Joanna Brady series, Hour of the Hunter was a well-plotted, exciting book. A few minor issues -- the ending seemed to arise out of nowhere, very abrupt after the lead-up. And the final punishment for the criminal wasn't nearly harsh enough. All the same, a nice change from Jance's series.

If you liked this book, particularly the native American references, you'll love Tony Hellerman's series.

Jance Holds Nothing Back.......2005-06-14

HOUR OF THE HUNTER is very suspenseful and has one of the most diabolical villains created for the reading audience. Overall it's very good, but minor flaws detour from making this an excellent read.

Widow Diana Ladd is raising her son, David, on the Tohono O'Othham Indian Reservation near Tucson, Arizona, with the help of Rita Antone. Rita is a Papago Indian basket-weaver/wise woman and has taught David the O'Othham language and customs since he was a toddler. Six years ago, Diana's testimony had put Andrew Carlisle in prison for the murder of Rita's granddaughter, which also resulted in the death of Diana's husband (Carlisle was involved with her husband and his death was staged to appear as a suicide). Now Carlisle is out of jail and looking for revenge. Sounds like a typical mystery, but it's definitely not typical.

Gruesome is the one word I would use to define Carlisle. His signature is to bite the nipples off of his victims. He thrives on torture, and a quick kill does not make him happy. He has plans on exactly how he wants Diana Ladd to suffer and this is described in great detail, sometimes to the point of turning my stomach. The victims he encounters on his hunt for Ladd are tortured and eventually killed but instead of appeasing his appetite for death, they only add to his need to reach Diana Ladd.

The Papago legends are written at the beginning of each chapter, which give an interesting twist to the story. At times it does take away from the tale, and I found myself wanting to skip the legends and get to the story at hand. Every chapter seemed like overkill. The O'Othham language is translated, but is difficult to read and understand. It does not flow smoothly.

Character development was excellent. Jance delved into each personality so I felt as if I personally knew each character. She left little to the imagination in this aspect. But in story development, she left a lot to the imagination, or lack thereof. It seemed as if her outline dictated the droning on of the story. It was predictable for the most part. The ending left me wondering why Jance had done the unthinkable to her heroine. What Ladd endured at the hands of Carlisle was unnecessary.

There were so many surprises during the story and for there to be no twists at the end made it very anti-climatic.

Didn't know it was Jance's writing!.......2003-08-04

I have read most of the books written by Jance and thoroughly enjoyed most.......especially the Beaumont books.
This book was the most disjointed and difficult to follow book I
have ever read. Each time I picked it up had to go back and read
the previous chapter to figure out what I was reading. Seems as if
she did not have her thoughts in order when writing......think she
should go back to Seattle and Beaumont as they are most interesting, exciting and even funny at times.

A great introduction to the author.......2001-05-15

This is the first book of Jance's I picked up. The Arizona setting was enjoyable, as were the Indian characters . I would recommend this novel, and I'm looking forward to some of the other Jance offerings.

A Real Change of Pace for Jance.......2000-11-02

Neither a J. P. Beaumont nor a Joanna Brady story, this is a real page-turner. A widowed mother and her son are the targets of an ex-college professor who is a sadistic serial killer, who has just been released from jail after serving a sentence for the killing of a Native American girl.

The sympathetic portrayal of a native american culture is reminiscent of Tony Hillerman's novels. A thoroly enjoyable story.

Great Book to plan Getaways.......2001-07-15

Great book for getaway planning. All the destinations are no more than two hours away from Cincinnati and go into all directions. This book has helped me discover many hidden gems in this area, such as the Ohio Caverns in West Liberty, Ohio, as well as Constitution Square in Danville, KY. Definitely a must have!

Don't buy this book! All it does is give an overly detailed explanation of how to use the e-mail, which I'm sure doesn't take the average person 24 separate 1-hour lessons to master. ...

Thorough & Enlightening !.......2001-03-21

This is one of the most useful software handbooks I have laid my hands on. It will teach you basic usage and go on to more intermediate skills which will give you the confidence to use Notes to the full. I would recommend this book to new-starters of Notes but Developers may find it old-hat. My organisation has just moved over to Notes 4.6 from MS Outlook and gave us no software training at all. I look forward to reading other books in the Sams range.

Sams offers another well-researched how-to book for Lotus Notes and true to its title, people using it will teach themselves Notes 4.6 in 24 hours of reading and doing. I used the book to teach 30 other Notes newbies how to use the program to enhance their productivity. Into The Early Hours clearly documents Aislinn Hunter as a gifted master poet whose verse is unique, engaging, and memorable. Recollection: The slim-wristed dead are with you again,/in their ruffled blouses and long white skirts --/two young girls, feet slung out of the hammock/on Chatham street, sleeping and as still as fish/too long out of water, mouths open/under a bright canopy of sun. It's late summer/and every afternoon has been like this one//but for your hand on the banister of the back porch,/as incongruous as an airplane in an apple grove./That you can touch her shoulder and wake her,/along with her sister and the small brown terrier/curled up in the shade. I don't read a whole lot, but this one was suggested along with the first so I read them both. I could hardly put them down. I like the characters better in this book than in the first. I can't say enough good about this one. It's just fantastic!

Much better then the first!!!.......1999-04-10

In the first book the title character was a little dry. However Ian is ten times better the Bjorn! I also enjoyed the way Thomas K. Martin portrays magic as the "Power" something which one is born with rather then learns. I would really give this 4.5 stars since the only thing I didn't like was the fact that it ended with a cliffhanger. But that only deserves a .5 loss. I recommend this book to all lovers of fantasy and magic.

A surpurb followup for The Awakening.......1999-04-07

An excellent followup for MageLord: The Awakening. A changing of main characters for this book does nothing to hamper the vivid storytelling and intriguing plot of this sequal. This story focus' more on the aftermath of the battle that ended with the first book and how it affects magi in general. This book goes to show that mages are not mankinds worst enemy. Another book I couldn't put down. Definately recommended reading.

The Time of Madness is a great book........1998-08-24

This book follows up the original, but follows a completly different charcter. (Which I liked more than Bjorn or Gavin from the first book). I liked the entire book except for the fact that it ended on a cliffhanger that is to be finished up in the third book of the set. I would not suggest reading this one until T. K. Martin publishes the third book in the series. Over all this book has an original style that is only seen in the first book of the trigiloy. I wuold suggest this book to any one that liked the forst one.

This book really got me to start thinking about all the foods out there that most people haven't heard of. That was one of the main points the author was trying to make and I believe is stated in the introduction. Well she succeeded with me. Its a good book that can show you food choices to make to have a happier healthier life. You may not know the exact nutrition of what you are eating until you read this book. I've been buying a lot more fruits and vegetables because of it.

I returned this book. Some of the info is common sense, some of it is dodgy. Yet McKeith fully expects her readers to take her word as gospel.

McKeith is not interested in educating her readers. She gives lots of reasons why you are a failure to yourself--to your body--but zero reasons why you should trust her.

Gillian McKeith has no cred. She *bought* her degree through paid correspondence courses from a non-accredited school in the US. She is NOT a doctor. Google it, you'll see.

After reading this book, it is clear that McKeith just wants to create a religion, to lead the blind masses and be adored. Don't take health advice from an egomaniac. Find an author who respects you.

AN EXCELLENT RESOURCE FOR CANCER SURVIVORS.......2007-04-09

This is a book which is easy to read and understand. Everything explained in simple terms. No quack claims - just common sense advice. It is obvious with all the additives and preservatives in our foods today and our hectic lifestyles that our diet is affecting our bodies and taking its toll. As a cancer survivor, I thought my diet was healthy until I read her book. I have totally changed my diet and lifestyle and 2 years after a Stage III breast cancer which had spread to my lymph nodes which required surgery and chemotherapy, I have frankly never felt better or looked so good! I attribute it to this book and her advice. I started juicing fresh vegetables and eliminated processed foods from my diet. There are some food items which are a little more expensive, but it is not expensive to juice some fresh carrots and an apple or make a bean chilli! In most cases is can be cheaper to cook healthy. I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks they are healthy and to anyone with any type of illness/disease.
