Book Description
Following Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy from the Blue Collar Comedy Tour to the page, Ron White (affectionately known as Tater Salad) delivers the laughs in his distinctive and beloved down-home style.
Fans of Ron White's perfectly-phrased everyman gripes and raunchy, grinning asides* will find much to appreciate here. He riffs on everything from obnoxious designer sunglass salesmen to his wife's wealthy but stingy family, and he revisits some of his most famous characters, such as his troublesome dog Sluggo (He ran away all day. He was gone for ten hours. So, to punish him, when he came home I took him for a walk.).
Best of all, White's hilarious material is accompanied here by clever artistic interpretations, courtesy of illustrator Matthew Schulz. BACKCOVER: Ron White's comedy is about as understated as a chainsaw, and twice as sharp.
STAR TRIBUNE (MINNEAPOLIS)
White's inspired comic mind finds a dozen sources of humor where the average comic would find only one or two, while making a fine art of the deadpan style.

Funny Entertaining Reading.......2007-09-02
If you have seen Ron White's routine on TV, you will see some of the same material in this book. You will also find a lot of new information about his life & work. Frankly, Ron should have been dead a long time ago as a result of the way he lives. But he has survived and made money doing it. Good book for adults. However, it is loaded with stories about sex, drugs & alcohol abuse, so it is not a book you want your junior redneck reading.
Ron "Tater Salad" White: You Can't Stop This Tater!!!.......2007-08-09
Great book....funny drawings..his more famous jokes are on Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Nice book to read if you want to enjoy your day with some humor.
Great read.......2007-01-09
I like anything by Ron White and this is a real page turner.
I Had the Right to Remain Silent...But I Didn't Have the Ability.......2006-11-03
Ron White is my absolute favorite comedian. However, the book was a little disappointing. I did learn some interesting things about his wild and woolly past, but I've alreay heard all the bits and I wish repeats of those had been left out of the book.
Typical Ron.......2006-10-08
Ron White is a funny guy. I've seen him numerous times on the Blue Collar Comedy DVD's and I have his CDs and he always makes me laugh. When I started reading the book I realized that the material was stuff I'd already heard. Thankfully, as I read on I realized that it wasn't all old material. To fully appreciate Ron White, you need to see his live performance with his Texas twang and sipping scotch like it was spring water. The book is a quick read and for any Blue Collar Comedy fan, you'll love it.

Book Description
Here is the inside story of one of the most significant Supreme Court cases in U.S. history--and the legal history of the accused's right to counsel and silence. Stuart personally knows many of the figures involved in the Miranda case and here unravels its complex history, revealing how the defense attorneys created the argument brought before the Court and analyzing the competing societal interests involved. He considers the case's aftermath, updates the story to the Supreme Court's 2000 Dickerson decision upholding Miranda, and considers its implications for cases involving the rights of suspected terrorists.

Customer Reviews:
A good read and some unusual aspects.......2007-06-15
I liked this book. Especially liked the old psychiatric tales, the shame of the older investigator, the linkages across lawyering and forensics. Does need work on the "joints" and following up on several characters. But has promise. Don't think the horrible reviews are at all deserved here!
Awful!.......2007-03-13
This book was awful! I tried to care. I tried to stay interested but it was no use! I couldn't even finish the last 100 pages. The main female character was so shallow and materialistic. I couldn't stand her. When she was attacked and sent to the hospital? I couldn't possibly care less. I threw this book away. It was a waste of my time.
some of whats here is enjoyable, but the negative reviewers have a point.......2007-01-09
I feel at the same time generous in giving this book three stars and in a way hesitant because I enjoyed aspects of the book and want to give the author, Michael Baden encouragement in writing more works of fiction in the future. I have read a lot of bad books in my day and feel that Remains Silent is better than several best sellers I have made it through. Authors such as DB Buffa, Grisham, recent Patterson, and Stuart Woods could gain a thing or two from Baden's story telling. But this is in its way faint praise.
Baden's characters are enjoyable enough. No great shakes. But pleasant to read. The story is decent enough, but its unfolding is sophomoric. What occurs is this medical examiner and a lawyer team up when a series of murders is uncovered. They go about finding evidence and things happen to bar their path. Mysterious sinister characters who never show themselves are lurking in the background of the story. What really bothered me is that the story unfolds in a manner that is condescending to both the characters and the reader.
Ahh, I would highly recommend that you pass this novel by. You can find a lot better out there. This is sort of what you might expect when you read the first efforts of a favorite author. I think that Baden could grow a lot as an author in the future.
"Remains Silent:" Needs More Attention to the Basics.......2006-12-05
"Remains Silent" is the first book co-written by Dr. Michael Baden, former New York City Medical Examiner, host of HBO's "Autopsy;" and his wife, Linda Kenney Baden, who has appeared as a guest legal commentator on Court TV, CNN, and MSNBC. They're quite the pair of high flyers: Linda is an attorney who has won many civil rights law suits. Dr. Baden is one of America's leading forensic experts. He has overseen cases ranging from the death of John Belushi to that of the Russian Tsar Nicholas II, and has served as an expert witness in many criminal cases, including those of Claus von Bulow and O.J. Simpson. He has been a consulting forensic pathologist to the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the FBI and the Russian Government. He has also been a visiting professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Albert Einstein School of Medicine, and Albany Medical College. In this their first joint book, they have chosen to write about a famous forensic examiner and his crusading attorney girlfriend-wife. How challenging the stretch must have been.
The plot concerns skeletons unearthed where they shouldn't be, in excavation for a new mall in upstate New York. The book seems to have been written, and edited, in an extraordinarily slapdash manner. Cars change their make mid-page. Major characters change their surnames for pages at a time. The Badens' book opens on Philomena "Manny" Manfreda trying a case in New Jersey; and if she tries all her cases like that, it's a wonder she's ever won any. Furthermore, a self-congratulatory, self-regarding air hangs over the book from first to last: we're a celebrity couple, and you're not. Manny is just gorgeous, and dresses in high-society designer originals: you're probably not, and can't afford to, either.
The authors have also chosen to rely on many hoary plot devices, from the unexpected skeletons to the developer, and the local sheriff, pressing to build the mall; from the menacing, looming, abandoned mental hospital to secret government malfeasance. And yet, it is a forensic mystery. The forensics appeared to be accurate, and they interested me. The stories those skeletons told did keep me reading to the end. The plot line even had a couple of surprises. Perhaps the Badens' next joint effort, if there is one, could pay a bit more attention to the basics?
Don't waste your time..........2006-10-10
After reading the high praise given this book (in particular, the front jacket blurb by Patricia Cornwell), I expected an exciting and compelling read. Instead, I found a book with incredibly unbelievable and superficial protagonists, not to mention secondary characters, bad editing, and many errors on the part of the authors themselves. It's hard to imagine that a former medical examiner and an attorney/legal commentator with years of expertise between them, could actually write something as poor as this.

Book Description
A lifetime of hard-won wisdom and insight into the human heart is contained in this collection of eighty impassioned essays on ethical and spiritual issues ranging from racial injustice and the abuses of power to the legacy of the Holocaust, from the evolving relationship between American Jewry and Israel to raising morally sensitive children, from the mystery of death to the meaning of God in the modern world. If there is a single motif dominating this treasury of rabbinic wisdom, it is the need for ethical accountability on the part of both individuals and institutions.
Each of these sermons faces life's dilemmas squarely with courage and a deep understanding of the complexities of human nature. They do not offer facile answers to difficult questions nor are they ever self-righteous but rather thoughtful, reflective, sensitive, often funny, intensely Jewish and deeply human, deriving their profound insights from Jewish tradition and the joys and sufferings of the author's own life. The best sermon is a reflection of wisdom forged by experience and infused with ancient truths. The best sermon is a well-lived life.

Thoughtful guidance for life.......2007-03-13
Rabbi Stern is an inspirational teacher, stressing ethical approaches to life. His writings are clear, meaningful, and even humorous; yet the reader is left with a strong message. While he is a Reform Jewish Rabbi, I think few people could disagree with most of his writings.
Book Description
Connor Westphal is drawn into another mystery in Flat Skunk when the local historian dies, is resurrected, and dies again! Hot on the story of this unexpected event, Connor stumbles across the murdered woman's son, a deaf man who has been misdiagnosed for years. Working to clear his name for his mother's murder turns out to be more than she bargains for. Staying one step ahead of the killer, locating a missing will, and getting out her weekly paper are all just part of a day's work for amateur sleuth Connor Westphal in the third book of this popular series by Penny Warner.
From the Paperback edition.
Customer Reviews:
It's hard to keep quiet about this one!.......2000-10-14
Yeah, yeah, cheesy pun- but this is definitely my favourite book in Warner's outstanding Connor Westphal series. While all the books are well-plotted mysteries and informative glimpses into the Deaf community, the juxtaposition of the three Deaf/deaf characters in this book is revealing: Connor is well-educated, but an outsider in both Deaf and hearing company because of her oral orientation; Caleb is at the other extreme, completely uneducated and unable to communicate conventionally; and the proprietor of the local Deaf club, who makes a cameo appearance, is well-educated, witty, and non-oral.
Add to the political mix a thrilling murder with countless twists, a few dramatic scrapes for Connor, and an accurate description of a few vulgar signs to try out on your friends (::grin::), and "Right to Remain Silent" is a winner!
Good plot, humorous, with great insights into Deaf culture.......1999-08-14
Penny Warner's latest book, Right to Remain Silent, (as well as her other two Connor Westphal mysteries, Dead Body Language and Sign of Foul Play), besides being a fun, modern mystery, could be an excellent companion to any text teaching students of Sign Language or Deaf Studies. The comings and going of Connor and local characters from Flat Skunk with frequent references to ASL, lip reading, use of TTY and Relay calls, and daily communication between deaf people or deaf and hearing are accurate and insightful. I could picture Connor signing from Warner's descriptions. I look forward to the next book.
Overall excellence flawed by research errors........1999-07-26
Warner writes well, and her exploration of the deaf world is fascinating. Right to Remain Silent contains serious mis-information regarding "blue-babies", and such seriously flawed research on Rhesus-negative that I can only hope the readers don't remember the content. The mininformation in this book could be dangerous or fatal towards your progeny if you are an Rh- woman. (See March of Dimes RHDisease)and (pubs@unlvm.unl.edu for Well Water, Nitrates and the "Blue Baby" Syndrome Methemoglobinemia)
A rising superstar pens a terrific mystery.......1998-10-28
Investigative journalist Connor Westphal may be deaf, but she will not allow her physical impairment prevent her from obtaining her goal which is climbing upward in her chosen profession. The Eureka reporter soon learns that Sparkle Bodie, the most unpopular person in Gold County, California, just died. However, the elderly woman was apparently smothered by someone using a pillow while she was in the hospital for less than an hour.
Because of her public exposure of family secrets, many individuals had motives to kill Sparkle. However, the police hone in on Sparkle's deaf son Caleb as the prime suspect. Connor, knowing she already has the possibility of the story of the year, believes the lad is an easy mark to pin the blame on for the murder. As Connor begins to make inquiries, more killings occur, making the intrepid reporter wonder if she may just find her byline in the obituary column.
RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT, the third Connor Westphal amateur sleuth stories, is a great who-done-it due to the warm, witty star. The murder mystery is well designed and filled with growing suspense, while the ensemble adds intensity to the exciting story line. However, what makes this series worth reading is Penny Warner's insight into the life of a deaf person which she cleverly intertwines within the remarkable plot. This reviewer recommends the entire series (DEAD BODY LANGUAGE and SIGN OF FOUL PLAY) for a refreshingly unique reading experience.

odd characters give the book a decent grade.......2006-06-09
'You Have the Right To Remain Silent' is a quadruple ritualistic murder mystery featuring NYPD Detective Sergeant Marian Larch. She's fed up with all of the politics in police work and on the verge of quitting throughout the book. The characters are original and show some depth. The mystery itself is unique, including a motive that I still think is a little off, but...most murderers are a little off as well. I give this book a "B-"

Book Description
Personia of Broceliande was the commander of a profitable army...and mortal. Hadin was one her officers, sharing Personia's battles, her bed, and the hope of retiring from a life of bloodshed. That was before the vampire council enlisted their services to destroy Countess Lucia of Cedenia. Centuries later, Personia isolated herself in the dark world of her own unsolicited conversion, where memories of her failures, her life with Hadin, and the woman's murder dominated her existence. Now the countess has returned, obsessed with a five-hundred-year-old vendetta, and targeting Tracey Evans, a woman Personia is convinced is the reincarnation of her lost love. Personia knows she must confront the countess again to complete the task she failed to accomplish centuries ago. Knowing her success will ensure Tracey's safety, she also hopes it will grant herself absolution, or an unlikely redemption.

Conflicted.......2006-08-09
I have learned that this author is no longer endorsing or promoting this particular book due to a dispute with Publish America. This is sad, as the book is a good read, but being familiar with the publishing company, I support her decision and encourage others to respect her decision.
Happy to see this author's work.......2005-07-17
I am pleased to see this under rated author's work available in a download. It beats the cost of a copy in print, although there is something about having a book in your hands and in your personal library that makes the extra cost worth it. It makes her work more affordable though, and I back anything that might enable more people to view her writing.
Another book by my favorite author.......2005-06-14
Sword fights, lesbian romance and vampires...all the qualities a good read should have. I've read everything this author has published and am never disappointed, but this latest book is by far my favorite. Instead of the usual blood and gore found in most vampire books, this author tugs at the heartstrings, making her characters realistic and human. I came away hungry for more on the main character and am eagerly awaiting her next book which promises to be a sort of pre-quel to this one.

Jucing For Life.......2007-05-17
Wonderful book... I am a beginner in juicing it had been a trememdous help.
All Hale King of the Juice..........2007-02-16
I got into juicing about 12 years ago when I was working the night shift at a grocery store. Most of my fellow employess were all hooked on caffeine and sugar trying to keep themselves awake for that shift. I wanted to do something that would not only keep my energy levels high but I also didn't want to "crash" when I finally did go to sleep.
So I began juicing. At first, it was primarily carrot juice. I drank about maybe 3-4 cups of fresh carrot juice a day and I noticed the benefits of it right away. I always tried to maintain a healthy lifestyle, anyway, but juicing really seemed to give me that something "extra" that I was looking for.
Then I got this book and I began follwing some of her recipes as well as inventing a few of my own. My favorite "concoction" is something I call the Zest Fest:
5 medium carrots
6 cherry tomatoes
2 stalks celery
1/2 red bell pepper
1/2 cucumber
1 small piece of ginger
2 garlic cloves
Sliver of onion
Sliver of lemon
1/2 shot of white vinegar
1/2 shot worsteshire sauce
A few shakes of your favorite hotsauce
Salt & Pepper
Juice all the vegetables, add the condiments, mix well in a glass jar with a lid, drink and enjoy! This little potion of mine has warded off several types of the flu as well as other common ailments and gives me a sense of vibrancy and vitality all throughout the day. Of course, my skin is bright orange now and I can see through walls, but so what?
=)
The benefits of fresh juicing are incredible and this book goes into great detail what those benefits are. If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, get a juicer, get this book, raid the produce stand, and make your health and your well-being top priority.
would not be 1st choice.......2006-08-20
Be careful if you take this book into the kitchen. It is printed on the cheapest of papers and tears and damages easily if it gets wet. The recipes are o.k.; the information is o.k., although conflicts with some information in her Coconut Diet book, but nothing very interesting or inspirational is shared.
Missing Information.......2006-08-09
I bought this book to add juice to my diet as well as for a juice fast to detox. However, this book is missing important information on this topic. This book is very helpful for ADDING more juice to your diet, but it doesn't cover the necessary information on a strict juice diet commonly used for cleansing (detoxing), illness, and weight loss.
A pure juice diet (fast) requires an introduction phase and a tapering off phase, neither which are covered. It also does not mention the effects of a juice fast, which can include fatigue-like symptoms, skin flare-ups, etc as the body detoxes, as well as the need for large quantities of water for juice fasting.
It would also be helpful to have a table of reference of the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables. What nutrients does a cantaloupe have? You have to check out beneficial juices under specific illnesses to find out cantaloupe's nutrients.
It is basically the same handful of recipes over and over. The authors missed a great opportunity to fully educate on what one should know if juicing is used for the purpose of detox, weight loss or illness. I hope the next printing is updated with this additional information.
Very informative...well laid out & easy to read.......2006-03-09
This book is EXCELLENT and one which I highly recommend. Yes...it's from 1992 but it all still stands true. The one thing about eating this type of food/juice and eating this way in general is that the underlying benefits and facts don't change. It certainly is not a fad but based on principles that stand the test of time. You can buy a book on this subject that is 50 years old or one that is brand new...they will say pretty much the same thing. This book is very well laid out tho' and is packed with a wealth of information. It points out the benefits of juicing and what each vegetable and fruit is good for...and how to drink them, along with some excellent recipes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Customer Reviews:
Not really about juicing.......2007-09-05
This book contains absolutely NO juicing recipes, just ones for blending. Because of that, I was thoroughly disappointed in this book. Although, to be fair, the "blending" recipes were a plenty, varied largely in flavor and type and were very interesting.
The title led me to believe that it would contain ways in which to heal myself through juicing. While Dr. Jensen did go into extensive detail about the therapeutic effects juicing can have and mentioned some combinations for certain ailments, it spanned only a couple of pages and was formatted in chart form. (AND the chart is also available in, at least, one other book by him.) It definitely was not the in-depth how-to guide I was looking for.
Dr. Jensen also goes into great detail about ALL of the vitamins, minerals and trace elements the body needs and where one can find them in food items.
He does provide a chart which lists all the food items he considers beneficial to juice, which chemicals are predominate, and for what ailment they can be useful for. Again, though, this chart is in at least one other of his books.
So, while I was disappointed about the lack of juicing recipes, the book contained enough information and facts to allow me to overlook that. All in all, it was a worthy read, and one I would suggest to someone looking to really get a grasp on the physiological needs of the human body and how juicing can help someone attain them.
just ok.......2005-05-27
not a bad book, but a little more info than i was looking for. recipes are really for "blending" and not necessarily just for those using a "juicer," and especially if you are just starting out. if you just want the basics, try The Juiceman's Power of Juicing. it is really good!

JUICES.......2007-09-15
This book is not for me is for someone who has a juicer and time to make them might be good for someone else
It's helping me save my life.......2007-08-02
I am plagued with multiple chronic health issues and have been on a personal quest to improve my health. Over the years I had consumed numerous freshly made organic juices from various stores and felt a slight positive change in my health. However, it wasn't until I purchased this book and began weekly drinking two to four cups of juice combinations from within it that I began to feel the juices had made a tremendous positive change in my health. My first clue to the power of the recipes was the strong feelings of increased strength and well being that began twenty minutes after drinking a cup of juice. Over the next two months my acne completely disappeared, my face had more of a glow than an oily sheen, and my hair began to regain its luster. The changes were so apparent that numerous people remarked how healthy I looked. I can only imagine the health benefits it's had that are not so easily seen.
Today I had a hidden allergen in my lunch that left my intestines painfully inflamed. As soon as I could I referred to this book and juiced a recipe to soothe my symptoms. Much to my delight, it worked! I can see and feel the positive impact the juice is having on my recovery.
This book is helping me save my life!
Quick, informative guide to juicing.......2007-03-12
I gave 4 and not 5 stars because the author did not enclose a recipe for hyperthyroidism and chose to focus on hypothyroidism only because "it's more common". Judging from the amount of text on the other condition, I beg to differ. However, anything with Brussel sprouts and broccoli will help manage a hyperthyroid condition.
Also some of the recipes reference vitamin mixtures sold exclusively by the author, who is Australian- so ordering may be a bit impractical for non-Australian readers. However, this book is a great reference on what juices are best for common conditions and even gives tips on which fruits and veggies complement each other on taste and which do not. All I need is a list of ingredients and I'm off to the market. The ingredient amounts also make enough juice for 3 servings a day- which is great because they recommend that the nutritional value of juices diminish after a few hours. By necessity, I make juice the night before for breakfast but the juice is still fresh.
Great book.......2006-06-29
I love the recipes in this book. They are easy to make and they taste great.
You can create life saving juices according to the area of health concern. Definately a must have.
great little juicing guide - all you need.......2005-12-05
This book has all you need to know about medicinal juicing in
a deceptively small and easy to read package. I used her
antibiotic juice in lieu of a prescription antibiotic and it
cleared everything up in just 2 days. All her recipes seem to be very effective. Highly recommended especially if you are just
starting out with juicing.

Great recipies, very easy to follow.......2005-06-27
I will admit it, my husband does more cooking than I do. He is a better cook, can make his own bread, pasta and can even cook without a recipe. When I need to cook for the family, I use this book. It is simple and the recipies frequently require things that you already have around your kitchen. I plan to buy more of his cookbooks.
Fantastic Book.......2003-10-29
I have viewed hundreds of cookbooks. This was the first "Mr. Food" book that I purchased a year ago. Simply stated, this is the best cookbook I have ever used. I have prepared so far about half of the 175+ recipes in it, and they have literally all been fanstastic. They are easy to prepare also (just as he claims). From appetizers to elegant main courses to desserts, I have received numerous compliments. This is such a good book that I have just ordered the best of Mr. Food I and II.
